CB – The couch-jumping Oprah incident was 2005, not 2004. And I believe Cruise had a real publicist at the time, whom he fired, and THEN hired his sister in late 2005-early 2006.
I remember because I think for a short time, Cruise’s old publicist was briefly hired by Brad Pitt in 2006.
Not true! Tiny Tom fired Pat Kingsley – his capable publicist for over 10 years – in 2004 and hired his sister. The couch-jumping, Lauer tirade, and Brooke Shields assault all occurred when his sister was handling his PR.
Apparently he decided that she was to blame, and sent her off to RPF, which is the Scientology rehabilitation camp.
I expect more public outbursts from Crazy Tom in the near future. The only people he wants working for him now are Scienos, who aren’t exactly the most stable folks to begin with!!
Dumb move, but I’ve never thought he was that bright. Shrewd business person, at one point, but now he has allowed his personal life and beliefs to overshadow his “career”
Back in the day, I thought he was more publicity shy, now he’s just another attention whore. He upstaged Christian Bale and the cast of the Dark Knight, which is why Katie was not asked back. Now he upstages Katie and the cast of All My Sons on opening night. Sad. Too bad, I love that play.
Yeah, I think Nick has the right timeline for publicists. But the couch jumping thing was in 2005, not 2004.
@Nick Pilla – 100% right here, everything bad was kept in check by Pat Kingsley (for years!), the worst decision Tom ever made was to dump her. But I believe he did it under extreme pressure from the CoS – ie. the piper wanted its tune to be heard. Tom’s downfall began the day he decided he knew better than Pat Kingsley.
They have a jacket just like Katie’s that I want from the GAP.

Honestly I thought that was his sister in the top photo and ” damn his sister looks like an older version of Katie, weird” went through my head. Then, on double take I realized it was Katie in her Blanche from Boca drag heading off to the early bird special. Yowza, scary biz !
