As I said before…sad day. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. He was a fine man.

  2. RAN says:

I echo Anni’s sentiments. Truly a sad day.

  3. Gigohead says:

🙁 Talented man. May he rest in peace.

What beautiful eyes he had. It’s like looking into a piece of heaven.

  4. Lore says:

Neat man, neat life, neat memories.

  5. Jinxy says:

Well it is sad that he passed, but what a wonderful life he had. He really did make a difference to 100,000’s through charity and good works, turning the biggest tragedy in a persons life into something that will go on for years and years, Newman’s Own. Which is a memorial to his son who passed away, and run by the family.

Indeed what a class act. He will be missed.

  6. lunachick says:

Paul Newman was truly a great man. His charity, Newman’s Own, has donated over 200 million dollars to date – what a beautiful legacy.

And he was a legendary family man – married to Joanne Woodward for over 50 years, and several of his children cntinue to run the family charities and foundations.

RIP Paul, you will be missed, but you live on in the hearts of millions.

  7. KERRI says:

    A great actor
    A great Husband
    A great Father
    A caring philatrophist
    And a Wonderful MAN!

Rest in Peace Paul. My thoughts and prayers are with Joann and his family.

I’ll always remember this date. Today is my husband’s birthday.

One wife celebrates this day, and another mourns. Life is so sad.

  8. Jen in Dallas says:

A class act. No one else comes close.

  9. geronimo says:

Very sad news but what a life and a legacy. Such a shame his last year was marred by ill-health. Beautiful man, inside and out. RIP.

  10. Gee says:

I can only remember one other time besides today when the death of someone I have not met has brought tears to my eyes, such as the sad news of Paul Newman’s passing brought to me. His life and work are an inspiration. Paul Newman is one of those people you just don’t want to let go. Hands down my favorite screen actor of all time. A class act all around. His deeds and spirit will be with us always. Thank you for a wonderful life you shared with us Paul. Rest in peace.

  11. daisyfly says:

A class act all the way. We’ve lost another great one. As the saying goes, they sure don’t make ’em like that anymore.

  12. Blondediva says:

They don’t make ’em like Newman anymore. The way he has lived his life, both professionally and personally, is inspirational. Young Hollywood should take heed. The world is a better place because Paul Newman was here.

  13. Kaiser says:

Too sad… prayers to Joanne and the girls.

  14. breederina says:

He’ll always be an example to me of someone who really did it right, his acting, racecar driving, politics, philanthropy, private life, love of life. He made inspired choices and followed through.
He lived a wonderful life, left the world a better place than he found it and will be missed.

  15. Thais says:

He had a great face with kind eyes and a big heart
    he will be missed
    😥

  16. Carrie says:

Man, he was gorgeous, wasn’t he? You forget………

They don’t make them like that any more. RIP.

  17. Chamalla says:

    *lights candle for Paul*

  18. sassyspank says:

. . . of a rare breed, indeed. To hear this made me sad – he had a young and caring soul. A man of class, poise, talent and intelligence. He will be missed!

  19. Cindy says:

Paul Newman was one of the best actors and humanitarians ever known. His organic food products were incredibly good, especially his spaghetti sauce, Ummmm! These natural food products and the proceeds he donated from them are a testament to his love for people and his desire to provide healthy food for us at an affordable price, instead of all that artificial junk out there . Those donations he made to charity will be one of the legacies he leaves to this world. We will continue to buy his products in support of the many charities he supported, which is the least we can do in his memory. He really was a class act and will be very sadly missed. Thankfully, many have been touched by his generosity and love for people. Our prayers go out to his wonderful family and may he rest in peace, forever. 🙁

  20. someone says:

Paul Newman was a wonderful human being..He will be missed greatly. I thought he was an extremely handsome man in his younger days..And his beautiful blue eyes..”sigh”..prayers to his family..

  21. Duckie says:

My 7 yr old teared up about “Doc Hudson” dying. And so did I.

    What a life and legacy.

    Sleep well, Mr. Newman.

  22. Mairead says:

    😥

I had hoped to post a quotation from “Newman’s Own Cookbook: Sparkling Recipes from Paul Newman & his Hollywood Friends”, but I don’t have my copy with me. but basically in his and Hotchner’s introductions, there’s few lines which really attest to the humility and sense of humour of the man – basically he described himself as a cook who sometimes dabbled in movies.

My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

  23. Codzilla says:

He was a wonderful man. To him, helping others wasn’t about the resulting press release. Mr. Newman clearly had a tremendous heart, along with the humility to follow it for the right reasons. A rare combination in any person, but especially in today’s celebrity culture. No one even comes close.

  24. Ron says:

I had the chance to meet Paul. He was a member of my fraternity. He was a darling man and so very generous. His Hole in the Wall camps are just the most incredible places for seriously ill children. He was a wonderful actor, but his legacy is his amazing humanity.

    What a life!

  25. Victoria says:

AMEN ” KERRI “, you said it wonderfully and so did many others…What a rare and beautiful gem, ole blue eyes was!!!!…His work for childhood Leukemia and their special camps will go on thanks to his family and special friends who have helped him run these camps in the pasts…GOD SPEED OLE BLUE EYES, YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED AND NEVER FORGOTTEN !!…MY SYMPATHY AND PRAYERS TO HIS FAMILY!!

  26. Trashaddict says:

My parents had a deal in their marriage: if Suzanne Pleshette came along, dad could leave, no questions asked. The same went for Paul Newman and my mom.
Well, my mom is gone and so is Paul. If there is an afterlife, I hope Joanne Woodward won’t be offended if she makes his acquaintance. I’d like to think they’d all have a laugh at this.
It’s a mark of what a lovely man he was that so many people feel they’ve lost a great friend.
    Peace.

  27. stellapurdy says:

so sad, one of the best actors of all time, and he will be missed.

  31. S says:

What a great man, what a great life. The world is better for his having been in it.

  32. Dingles says:

What a beautiful, beautiful man. Inside and out.

  33. fee says:

I watched Cat on a Hot Tin Roof when I was about 15 & thought “who is THAT!” he was the most beautiful man I’d ever seen & I havent seen anyone come close since!… He was a inspiration in his personal life with his charity work & strong, loving marriage. They dont make em like that anymore – if only todays Hollywood stars could conduct themselves with such dignity… RIP

  34. Lara says:

    Rest in peace, Mr. Newman.

  35. notprfect says:

    R.I.P., Paul.
    😥

Me: Oh no, Paul Newman died!

    Co-workers: Who’s Paul Newman?

    Me: …sigh

  37. CB Rawks says:

He was lovely and so generous always. He’s the sort of person I want to be like.

I recently had a very weird experience. A person asked for help because they were sick, and I felt sad for them and donated as asked. Then they were pointedly rude. It made me feel sick and foolish. I wished I could help someone different instead. But my husband tried to cheer me up by saying that it’s the helping that counts, and just because they were a crappy person, doesn’t really diminish the important action of helping. I totally agree, and will continue to share what little I have.
