Princess Diana-biographer Andrew Morton wants to do Angelina Jolie tell-all

Andrew Morton

Andrew Morton has gained a reputation as the go-to guy for tabloid-friendly biographies. Sometimes those biographies are authorized, like his first book about Princess Diana (Diana: Her True Story), and some are unauthorized, like his last book, about Tom Cruise. Morton usually profiles the more controversial figures – in addition to Princess Diana and Cruise, Morton also wrote the authorized book about Monica Lewinsky (Monica’s Story) and an unauthorized ones about Madonna and David and Victoria Beckham (Posh and Becks). His latest subject sticks to the winning formula – he’s going to write about Angelina Jolie.

It’s kind of an obvious choice, and I was honestly surprised Andrew Morton hadn’t thought of a Jolie book before. Her life has all of the elements of a good book – sex, controversy, love triangles, beautiful locales, family issues, babies, drama. Morton will have to get in line, though. Jolie’s ex-bodyguard is already trying to get a tell-all book published, including many “revelations” about Jolie and Brad Pitt.

Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton is planning to write an unauthorised book about US actress Angelina Jolie, according to reports.

The former tabloid journalist and writer has already dissected the lives of some of the most controversial figures of the day, including Princess Diana, Monica Lewinsky and Tom Cruise.

Now, according to the New York Post’s Page Six gossip slot, he will turn his attention to award-winning actress and humanitarian campaigner Angelina Jolie.

Miss Jolie’s colourful life will provide plenty of material. Twice divorced, she has had a long-running feud with actor father Jon Voight and has adopted a string of children.

Professionally, she has risen to become one of Hollywood’s leading actresses, starring in films including Lara Croft Tomb Raider, A Mighty Heart, The Good Shepherd and Changeling. It was on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith that she met her now partner, Brad Pitt, with whom she has adopted several children.

The couple are also famed for their humanitarian work in the world’s trouble spots and Miss Jolie is a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.

Mr Morton’s unauthorised book about the star will reportedly be produced by US publishing giant St. Martin’s Press next winter.

His previous work includes the 1992 exposé Diana, Her True Story, for which the Princess of Wales was later revealed to have been the main source.

More recently, a biography of Tom Cruise brought legal threats after Morton suggested the Top Gun star had tailored his life to helping further the cause of the Church of Scientology and had become its de-facto second-in-command.

Mr Cruise has vehemently denied Morton’s allegations.

[From The Telegraph]

I have to admit, the only Morton book I’ve ever read was his first one on Princess Diana. Before Diana got her hooks into him, Morton was a pretty good journalist, albeit one who tended to work for the seedier tabloids. He is a true journalist at heart, but he will print anything, and he doesn’t mind unnamed sources. If he does end up writing about Angelina, I’m sure it will be a mash of things we already know plus a few nuggets of juicy details we haven’t heard before.

Why? Don’t we know already know everything about her? She wore blood vials, kissed her brother, kissed some chick, stole some husbands and God knows what else. What more do we need to know?

  2. Autumm Leaves says:

Don’t we know all there is to know about Angelina? I mean unless she howls at the moon on a nightly basis and has Howard Hughes like tendencies, Morton is late to the party.

  3. Tia C says:

LOL @ Sauronsarmy – my thoughts exactly!

Odds are, what we don’t know about her is probably the boring stuff!

  4. kap says:

Maybe his source will be Mickey Brett? since Mickey can’t seem to get his own book published without being sued. Although Mickey actually likes AJ, so doubt there’d be any really juicy items coming from him. Also, isn’t stealing a person considered kidnapping? Wonder why Aniston didn’t pay the ransom demand.

Oh please.. why don’t they just leave this woman the hell alone. Everyone wants to ride on the Angelina gravy train.. She has been very honest about her life. So what does he have to say.. The haters will eat it up like nectar..

And when you say she stole a man that is so 4 years ago. You can’t steal someone who wants to go. They are a family with 6 kids. It is time for the public to move on and find a new punching bag.. The lets get Angelina is so outdated..\
Brad was 40 year old man who fell in love and did not want Jennifer anymore. Sorry that is the truth, and it is the truth for millions of people everyday.. Jennifer is no different then any other woman, and Brad no different either. Sometimes people fall out of love and they meet someone they think fits them better. That it the beginning, middle, and end.. I don’t have to buy this book to learn about Angelina.. Read her interviews.. She tells everything..save the 20 dollars. Beside this guy is so desperate. He milked the Diana Saga for years.. Now he wants Angelina.. LOSER Big Time. He should stick to writing about the people in his own country.

i wouldn’t mind hashing over the real story one more time.

i just hate all the phoney blabbering and spin that tries to make Angie and Brad into something they’re not. I happen to be old fashioned when it comes to marriage vows and commitment ceremonies. So if you’ve broken one, own up to it. Then all the finger pointing will go away. These 2 love to deny they were involved while Brad was married. It’s so juvenile.

  7. neelyo says:

That’s the first time I’ve seen him, he’s sleazy looking.

  8. Chicamorena says:

Anything he says in that book is probably something Angelina already said a long time ago. She’s very up front about her life and doesn’t care what anybody thinks about her.

I imagine Aniston fans will break down the doors to the bookstores rushing to get a copy of this book, looking for something, anything, to slander their nemesis with. For everyone else it will be a big yawn.

  9. anna says:

seems to me that guys who cheat are cheaters. and women who mess with married men are lowlife sluts.

that’s the way it is in day-to-day life — why should these 2 be put on some kind of a pedestal as if they’re above reproach.

what’s more, they’re the ones who deny, deny, deny. what are they smoking?

  10. K McFarlane says:

I don’t know, do we really know everything about her? She seemed to undergo a dramatic change when she first adopted Maddox, but presumably she was already that person or the UN would not have been interested in working with her. Various stories have her as being very open with the media, then saying that no she’s actually very controlling. We know the wild things that she’s done, but not really what she’s like.

  11. sarcra says:

I tried to read the Tom Cruise one but never finished. I don’t know if it was because of Andrew Morton’s writing or my inability to muster up enough interest in Tom Cruise. Anyway, Morton did talk about Kelly McGillis’ homosexuality in that book (on the set of Top Gun), which she recently admitted. It would definitely be interesting to see how Morton depicts Angelina’s life. She definitely has a lot to talk about – estrangement from her father, marriages, bisexuality, adoptions, Brad Pitt triangle… I am not even a fan of AJ really, but I’d read it (from the library, of course. No way would I spend money on it).

  12. OXA says:

Come to think of it, she does not seem to have any long term friends.

  13. DD says:

Isn’t it too soon for a biography? She’s still in her early 30s. I’m sure there will be plenty more things to add to this if he waits a few years.

  14. Codzilla says:

    Saurons: LOL! Totally agree.

  15. KateNonymous says:

Andrew Morton’s still around? Who knew?

  16. Rita says:

kap, so true. And where were the wanted posters searching for the “stolen” man? How in the world in 2009 can any person with any intelligence use the archaic term “stole a husband”. Some people are just too dense for words.

  17. Carol says:

So agree Rita, when a man leaves his wife for another woman – she “stole” him away. No person can steal another, they go because they want to and who knows what kind of marriage Brad and Aniston had anyway? Leave Angelina alone, she didn’t do anything different than Brad.

  18. Amy says:

I doubt there will be anything new. Everything has been pretty much public. He could say that Brad and Angelina are horrible parents but people already say that. He could say they had an affair while Brad was still married but everybody assumes that. Besides these biographies are usually false and exaggerated.

  19. YES. says:

Thank you Carol… This drama has been going on for over 4 years. Angelina and Brad are together now. I wonder how many posters are aware of the number of nuts out there that still want Brad/Jennifer together again. I mean a man they say cheated on her.. It would be nice if people just left these two alone. Focus on someone else. This is like beating a dead horse. The way some people act like they know anything about what happened in this marriage..Based solely on tab reports. Since these three people said they there was NO CHEATING.

  20. freida says:

You can’t “steal” a man. You can, however, sleep with one when he’s still married and since that’s something she said she’d never do because of all the alleged “trauma” her father caused, but did, I guess she’s a liar and a hypocrite.

Amazing that she played the “Jon Voight’s daughter” card so often on her way up the celebrity ladder when she hated him so much, though….

  21. RAN says:

    Agree Freida

Karen, lay off the passion juice… it’s not hiding the obsessions you seem to harbor.

  22. RAN says:

Actually Karen, I guess my comment was a little harsh so… let me just retract it since I can’t edit it. I’m not really involved enough in any of this nonsense to care about who’s obsessed about what.

  23. Ursula says:

I think you will be surprised at what new stuff we would learn. Mickey Brett said somethings which did not surprise me but were new like the crooked way in which she adopted maddox. You will be suprised at how much people hide at that ‘we are such happy adulterers and are having the best time of our lives. The only worry is that unless Brangelina have a dramatic split during that time, interest in them is on the wane. I am not sure the biography would be a hot cake.

  24. FF says:

I’d rather have a tell all unauthorized biography about Aniston, oddly enough.

We’ve heard pretty much every oddity about Angelina already.

  25. PJ says:

    I agree–I’d prefer a tell-all about Aniston.

Still, an unauthorized biography of Angelina might be more interesting than we think, because it would show her through other people’s eyes, instead of her own spin. Third parties are bound to see her differently than she sees herself.

It depends on whether Morton can get interviews with people who are willing to talk.

  26. raven says:

K McFarlane makes a very good point. I’d be every interested in the years that she spent in England because it seems like she underwent great change there after adopting her son Maddox. I also would like to see a good biography, not just a litany of scandalous acts. I’m not sure Andrew Morton is up to that.

  27. This really answered my problem, thank you!
