I always got the feeling RDJ suffers from imposter syndrome. He just can’t accept or understand how talented he is. It’s like he is ashamed of it.
Maybe not ashamed but he understands in the grand scheme of life, that being famous and its trappings are not real.
He is a 2nd generation actor, producer, director. He has been around the industry for a long time. I still think he was one of the 4 blind items writers HIMMM.
I know that other site is not popular here. But I promise RDJ was not part of it. It was just a guy that realized that other person did not vet his submissions. So he just came up with crazy and fantasticas stories that never happened. And that person would just publish them. It was all just a goof.
HIMMM unalived himself a few years ago. And that was the end of HIMMM on that site.
I don’t know, to me he just comes across as extremely cocky.
I was once a huge RDJ fan. Him singing Joni Mitchell’s River on Ally McBeal? Slain. Then I read an interview where he said going to prison made him a Republican and insisted you couldn’t go to prison and NOT come out Republican. Then he was super cocky on the late, great EW Morning Live show. And I was soured.
So cocky and self-absorbed. Charming and quick-witted and talented*, too, so a lot of people overlook it.
I laughed when in his “humbleness” he talked about how THEY surrounded HIM with great actors, etc. (Look who he assumes is central and centered). That phrasing cuts through the facade.
* his award was more for being in a serious role in a serious movie after a decade of quips action-hero, and letting his older visage show throw and be upgraded. So many actors could have played that role just as well. But, in contrast, who else could have thread the needle that was Kenactly so?
@elle omg I also read that article when it came out. That very specific line has stuck with me all these many years later.
Is that article published someplace where I could read it now? Thanks.
Actual conversation in my house last night:
Him: RDJ won an Oscar! How has he never won before?
Me: You think he deserved BSA for Weird Science?
Him: Be serious, he’s barely a supporting character in that.
Me: So, the BSA should’ve gone to Chet?
Him: Exactly!
He is a nepo-hire. They would tell him he didnt have to audition. That’s important to note because he really did have to compete with the Johnny depps and Tom cruises, in the public eye. These guys was homeless and work for food. They brought a real life experiences.
Rdj comes from a different Hollywood. His Hollywood wanted to be inclusive and everyman. The new Hollywood think they are special just because they are the right people.
rdj is just trying to play to America. They use to do this a lot. Harrison Ford does it as well.
I get RDJ’s humor. If you watch the documentary he made about his father you will understand him better.
Thanks for the reminder of this doc. I have mixed feelings about him and I think he does too. Cocky, casual, egotistical, imposter syndrome and insecure maybe? all in one.
I think it’s all of that. Add in RDJ desperately wanting the validation of recognition by his peers but also desperately not wanting anyone to know he wants that validation.
Didn’t know Bradley Cooper’s mom has lived with him since his father died. I might have to like him again now.
Looking at the two of them I just want to know how tall his dad is! Always fascinated by tiny moms of large children. Mostly when they are babies, but also grown.
Both my teenagers are taller than me – my son is only 13 and is about four inches taller. I’m 5’3 and my husband is 6’5.
My son is 6’4″. I’m 5’4″. His father is 5’8″. Neither of his parents breached 5’9″, or his siblings. My brother is 5’10”. My mother is 5 foot flat. My dad was 6’4″. Genetics are a funny thing.
And yes, seeing Kiddo and my mom in the same picture is always hilarious. THen she makes him dust the top shelves when he comes over.
Genetics is weird, but childhood diets have a major impact. My brother is 6’4″ and our Mom topped out at 5’4″ (so did I). Dad might have been 5’10” when he was standing on his toes. Growing up, I called my brother a mutant, but he really was just a clone of Dad, all stretched out. Dad would probably been taller, but he was born in 1941, so he had an insufficient diet as a growing child due to WWII food rationing.
My husband also towers over his father, for similar reasons. His diet growing up was far better than his father’s. My father-in-law is a little older than my Dad; he was a child during the Depression and a teenager during WWII.
My sister is 5′ and her ex was 6’4″ and their son is 6’2″.
RDJ has seemed off to me through the entire awards season and he himself has brought up his troubled past, how he couldn’t get work or insurance, and those who supported him (Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, his wife) in several of his acceptance speeches so I wasn’t surprised he seemed off again.
I was too busy focused on how many of those 5 nominees and 5 presenters are part of the MCU (RDJ, Brown, Ruffalo, Ali, Rockwell, and Quan.)
Can we give honorable mentions to how amazing Pamela Anderson and Katherine O’Hara looked
Question when they say a celebrity is wearing ‘vintage’ and there are obviously not a size 0 like the person who originally wore the dress – do they alter the dress to fit the new wearer of said dress?.
Bradley looks very nipped and tucked. Not a good look – stepford husband
Nipped, tucked, smooth and shiny. Not a good look, more likr creepy
Plastic. Almost life like.
The cheeks are so bouncy!
Mama Coop: Am I alone in feeling that Gloria is really hard work?
RDJ: His non-acknowledgment of Ke Huy Quan may have forever altered my opinion of him. His entire acceptance speech was so bizarre.
RDJ knows what it takes to stay alive. His sobriety is his personae. He will forever pay penance to the gods of Hollywood for his addictions despite being a nepo baby or making billions for the studios.
