Throughout her career, Dolly Parton has always also had a signature style: big blonde hair, high heels, denim, and a lot of rhinestones. She’s even on record saying that she wears makeup to bed and maintains full hair and makeup while lounging around at home. Dolly has a clothing line coming out now through Khloe Kardashian’s line, Good American, called Joleans. The designs are quintessential Dolly at Kardashian prices. But, as Dolly always says, ”It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.”. To promote the line, Dolly did an interview with WWD, saying that she wants to look cheap and trashy because, well, it’s her signature style.
“They called this lady ‘trash’ because she wore too much makeup, big hair, red nails, high heels, short skirts and all of that, but when I was little, that impressed me,” Parton, 79, said in an interview with WWD published on Wednesday, April 1, while chatting about her collab with Khloé Kardashian’s co-founded brand, Good American.
Parton continued, “I want to look cheap. That’s my look. I want to look a little bit, you know, trashy.” The Country music legend went on to explain that she doesn’t mean “trashy” in a bad way, but more of an “artificial look.”
“I like the overdone,” she said. “I like the bleached hair. I do have some really beautiful clothes, but you would never know how much they cost because the expensive ones look the same on me as the cheap ones for the most part.”
When it comes to her Good American collection, Parton is offering bedazzled high-waisted pants and matching vests, bootcut jeans, gingham tops and more.
“I hope [people] will feel they look good, and it’ll give them a little confidence and a little flair, and just feeling like ‘I’ve got a little bit of country flavor going on here,” she gushed about her line. “Got a little Dolly in there.”
Parton is sure to be rocking her favorite denim items at home, too. “I’ll wear very comfortable clothes [everyday],” she said, noting she “usually” does her hair and makeup, even when she’s lounging at her house.
“I’m going to put on pullover shirts and a pair of jeans, and if I think somebody’s coming, then I can put on a pair of earrings or a little string silver necklace.” And we’re willing to wager her jewelry collection is anything but artificial.
I freaking love Dolly. I remember her saying that she does the full makeup and wig thing even when she’s at home. That is commitment! I can barely even commit to wearing a non sports-bra and real jeans when I’m at home nowadays. Like, why would you want anything with a restrictive waist band when you don’t need it? Anyway, I do really love that Dolly has always owned her style and made it her own. If she loves looking overdone, then let her get out there, big hair, rhinestones, and the whole shebang. I get it; I grew up on Long Island, the land of camp. Dolly wears it all well. I didn’t see a Kardashian collab coming, but Dolly’s reasoning makes sense. The stuff in the Good American line is super cute, but also so expensive! Dolly was right. It can be expensive to look “cheap.”
I freaking love Dolly. I hope the have plus sizes in this line.
They do! I see jeans up to a 55” waist, though plus sizes seem to be selling out the fastest.
I just purchased the denim corset shirt in 1X and plan to wear it as a light jacket to justify the expense. Things are definitely pricey for a mass market brand – hopefully they’ll have sales. Pay in 4 helps, but it can be dangerous!
She has always had a great sense of humor about herself and show business. Incredible talent plus a good heart. Hard to find these days. ❤️
Dolly is truly one of a kind in all the good ways. I wish her great success with this venture.
This interview is GOLD! Dolly SCHOOLED Barbara Walters when Barbara tried to tell her she looked like a joke. Dolly is the Queen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If-oWqUYzlQ

Dolly Parton is a philanthropist and a great helper with a very fine sense of irony and humour. And as for looking trashy: she just doesn’t manage it, because she has so much self-irony and grace that even the last rag looks good or funny.
She is so cute!
(I mean, besides all the the awesome things she does.)
You know what else is cute? The vest with the studs!
Eek! Pricey though.
Dolly is so authentic and true to herself. Which is so rare to find in celebrities these days.
Dolly is a national treasure and icon. She deserves extra kudos for coming so far and being so emotionally and business savvy coming from such an impoverished background. Not many women have navigated business and personal relationships so effectively. Don’t give Tennessee any tourism dollars for the foreseeable future, but Dollywood and the affiliated resorts (gift shops) have some really cute merchandise and clothes. Trashy has come a long way.
❤️ Dolly
