Gigi Hadid channeled Josephine Baker for the 2025 Met Gala: thoughts?

Honestly, I thought the majority of white celebrities did well with this year’s Met Gala theme, interpreting Black dandyism in unique and fun ways. But there were some notable flops and some looks which didn’t do much of anything. Speaking of, Gigi Hadid wore a Miu Miu look and everyone thought that she just chose to wear a gold dress with no real connection to the theme. Then, later on, we heard that Gigi was actually referencing a famous Josephine Baker look. The hairstyle definitely helps that out, although I still think that Gigi could have done a bit more? Still, the detailing on the gown is lovely.

Speaking of not thinking so much about theme, Sydney Sweeney also wore Miu Miu. She told people on the carpet that her look was a tribute to Kim Novak… because she’s about to play Kim Novak. While that’s good casting, it’s also doesn’t have anything to do with Black dandyism?? Oh wait… is this an oblique Sammy Davis Jr. reference??

Meanwhile, Joey King was the only Miu Miu-clad person who really understood the theme. People were RAVING about her incredible green suit. She really did look fantastic.

Joey kim looked fantastic. I loved the color of the suit and the styling. Just nailed it.

Joey King nailed it. It was fun, on theme, and she looked great. I also thought that Sydney Sweeney looked fantastic imo and I did think she was on theme. Gigi is the flop to me regardless of the Jospehine Baker reference. But it may also be because she is so blah in general. Dandy is about attitude and Gigi just does not have that presence.

    Joey killed it!

I think Gigi’s dress is gorgeous.

    Sydney’s look is meh.

objectively Sydney is lovely, but she is the female Glen Powell for me ….all of the gun powder, none of the spark.

That green suit is AMAZING and I would wear it every day.

Per social media, Gigi was also honoring Josephine Baker’s unofficial stylist, a dressmaker/tailor, a black woman, Ms. Zelda Wynn Valdes.
No idea if it is true, but if so, it is cool.

Gigi & Joey looked great. Sweeney’s not much at all.
