Practical Magic 2 with Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman is coming out in 2026

Get that salt out, because there’s an update on the upcoming Practical Magic sequel! It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since the news dropped that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman were both “in talks” to return for it. When asked about it last year, Kidman, who played older sister Gillian, said that there’s still ”a lot more to tell” of the Owens’ family story. Bullock, who plays little sister Sally, promised us, ”Here comes trouble, but good trouble.” Well, now that good trouble has a release date: September 18, 2026.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are reprising those roles in a sequel to their 1998 film, “Practical Magic.” Warner Bros. Studios, which is owned by CNN’s parent company, made the announcement in a video post on Tuesday.

Kidman can be heard in the video saying, “Tooth of wolf and morning dew” before Bullock adds, “Something old and something new.”

“Let the spell begin to mix,” the pair then say together. “Sept. 18, 2026.”

The caption on the post reads, “The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return. Only In Theaters September 18, 2026.”

In the original movie, Kidman and Bullock play sisters who are born into a magical family and raised by their aunts. The sisters lean into their legacy of witchcraft to battle evil. It is based on a book of the same name by Alice Hoffman.

Look, I know that we don’t need another sequel or reboot, but I’m excited for this one. I think enough time has passed that they could come up with some cool new plotlines, especially because Sally’s daughters are now grown up. (Although, I really hope that they don’t just use the same formula, only substituting the girls in for the elder Owens sisters.) Plus, three more books have been written by Alice Hoffman since the first movie came out, so there’s plenty of new source material to pull from. I remember last year, a lot of you who’d read the books said that the first one is kinda meh but the three later ones are pretty good. People who’ve read the books: What are some good plotlines they could pull from for this new movie? And, a question for everyone: What does your ideal sequel look like?

Great news! I loved the first “Practical Magic” film and can’t wait to see where they take the second one. 🙂

I’m just here for a witchy season movie. Keep em coming. I didn’t like the Hocus Pocus sequel as much as the first one but it was still fun to watch. I’m sure this one will be a fun watch too, either way.

I saw the little voiceover trailer and I’m excited! The first one came out when I was in high school (? I think, not checking the date) and I watch it every fall. I want my girls to see it, but they haven’t yet because I think the DV story line is so upsetting.

Aidan the sheriff has to be there or I riot. Other than that, I hope they find a match for Gillian and there’s fun coming of age/young adults understanding their mom’s life better part with the girls. Also I hope the aunts are still there, but I’m ok if they aren’t. They’re a big part of my old lady goals.

Great soundtrack for this movie! Might have to revisit it this weekend…

  5. Brigha says:

Hoffman’s most recent Owen’s book is The Book of Magic and includes storylines about Sally and Gillian that go past the events of Practical Magic. I would say the novel is mostely about Sally’s daughter Kylie, who was played by Evan Rachel Wood. Is she back for the sequel?
