As far as I’m concerned, the best thing that ever happened to sports is the Puppy Bowl. That’s my take and my tail can’t be swayed on the matter! No human athlete captures my attention quite so rapturously as watching a floof take the field. And the impact of the game is undeniable, in that it gives visibility to shelters across the country doing dog’s work, and it finds forever homes for the canine contestants. It’s beautiful! The Puppy Bowl definitely led the pack, having already reached Game XXI this year, but other sports are finally getting in on the action. So it is with the Stanley Pup! Petco and the NHL are teaming up once again to bring a sophomore edition of the game, after last year’s inaugural venture was such a success. Mark your calendars for this weekend!
We’re excited to announce, in celebration of the 2025 Stanley Cup® Playoffs and in partnership with the @nhl, Stanley Pup is BACK! This friendly competition features adoptable rescue dogs and appearances by celebrity dog lovers! 🤩 Swipe through for a peek at some surprise guests on the turntable this year! 👀🎶➡️
Throughout the program, you’ll meet adoptable pups from our shelter partners across the country, representing your favorite NHL Teams. Who will make it to the kennel-ty box? 🐶 Tune in on June 6th on @trutv (USA) and June 7th on @sportsnet (CAN) and June 8th on the @nhlnetwork (USA) for the cutest thing to have ever hit the “ice!” And remember, when you adopt a pet from your local shelter, everyone wins! 🏆🐾
Petco has the full player lineup on their official Stanley Pup page. Out of a roster of 42, 32 of the pups are designated to represent one of each of the 32 NHL teams. Troy Terrier, for instance, is repping the Anaheim Ducks. The kid is nine weeks old, 3.4 lbs, a mixed breed (despite his name), and playing forward position. And he’s already been adopted! Jared McCanine is likewise playing forward as a mixed breed pup who’s already been adopted (yay!), but is a few weeks older (11) and pounds heavier (7.9) than Troy, and Jared is repping the Seattle Kraken. I was thrilled to see that as of this writing, 26 of the 42 contestants have already been claimed by their new persons. That’s what this is all about! Sportsball fan that I am, I will be watching this weekend. Which should be interesting with My Guy, my own rescue pup, who believes his sole mission in life is to stand on his hind legs, claw at the air with his front paws in unison, and growl at any other dog he sees or hears. Given his front paw dexterity, I’m thinking basketball would probably be more My Guy’s sport, than hockey.
These pups are fully adorable! I’m not surprised they’re being snapped up fast! 🐶
Aw okay, the dvr is set. My 9 yr niece looks forward to the puppy bowl every year. So she’s going to love this. There’s some rough things going on for her right now so this will be a treat.
Look at these cuties! My heart can’t take it, they are so adorable and 100% good bois/girls ❤️
Let’s Go Oilers!!
Oilers is that team I’d never cheer for, unless they’re in the finals.
Even if they got one of our best, Leon Draisaitl. Leafs all the way for me, too bad they went out so early.
But given the extraordinary circumstances right now, and, as always when it’s US vs. Canada, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the Oilers. 🏒
The puppies are cute, and it’s great to see they introduced the Stanley Pup.
Let’s go Oilers!!!
This is that rarest of contests: one where everyone is a winner. That includes the adorable pups, the organizer, the sponsors, the shelters, and even the viewers. Hooray for the Puppy Bowl!
This will be the best thing I read today. If Stanley (the trendy water tumbler company) doesn’t get in on this they missed a Golden opportunity. ❤️❤️
Adore the pups!
Aw, look at the babies! And the honorable mentions, the slightly older pups. I hope every single one finds the bestest forever home!
Gotta say, though, the ears on these pups in the photos leads me to suspect they’re a little unsure of the whole jersey/photo thing & makes me want to give each & everyone a hug & tell them it’s going to be OK.
