The BET Awards were held last night. I wanted to talk about Kendrick Lamar! He was on stage half the night, picking up awards. He won for album of the year (for GNX), best male hip hop artist, best collab (for “Luther”), video of the year (“Not Like Us”) and video director of the year alongside Dave Free. As it turns out, Kendrick’s victory lap wasn’t over! People thought it was over at the Super Bowl. NOPE! Kendrick just keeps winning. It was great that this show fell in-between GNX tour dates too, so he and SZA both got to attend (they’re touring together).
I’m also adding some fashion pics from the awards. Ciara wore Saint Laurent, which was sort of a cool look. Doechii wore Miu Miu, and I think her look was my favorite? So summery. Keke Palmer looks so thin these days – she’s lost a dramatic amount of weight in the past year. I hope she’s okay. You can see the full list of award winners here.

Kendrick’s got that cutie smile. So does Doechii and her speech was good.
Kendrick popped out last year for the battle and said “I’m what the culture feelin’”. Then dropped the GNX album, delivered the most viewed Super Bowl Halftime performance and proceeded to deliver sold out cross country stadium tour concerts. BET said yes we agree….. he ‘makes music that electrifies’ the culture and the awards confirmed that 🙌. I’m now hooked on his entire discography and career. Never listened to Hip-Hop on repeat before coming across Kendrick last year. I’m hooked on his music now.
I like his charisma too.
Same @MSJ, I discovered Kendrick through the beef and have fallen in love with his music. Right now I’m listening to Mr Morale. Kendrick’s music is nourishing. I’m really happy for his success!
I always leave room for men to disappoint, but Mr. Lamar is amazing.
DAMN (not his current album) is the only popular music artist to ever win a Pulitzer Prize.
He is it. He is the whole list.
Rap/hip hop is not my main musical interest, but Not Like Us is inescapably good.
The halftime performance was art.
“You picked the right time but the wrong guy.”
He deserves all the accolades he gets.
Yes, he is a genius, humble and adorable. Just love him.
