Mail: The Sussexes are under a tsunami warning in Montecito!

I’m bad with calculating time zones, so I’ll just say that on Tuesday evening on America’s East Coast, Russia’s Far East was struck by an 8.8 magnitude earthquake. Tsunami warnings were immediately issued across the Pacific, and Japan conducted an immediate coastal evacuation as they prepared to get clobbered. Hawaii also braced for impact, with poorly managed evacuations taking place across the islands. The tsunami warnings are also being issued for America’s West Coast, although it definitely looks like this situation isn’t going to have the kind of loss of life similar to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Well, obviously, this is how the British media is choosing to frame the unfolding natural disaster: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $14 million Montecito mansion caught up in tsunami warning zone.” Are the Sussexes literally the only people in California??

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $14 million Montecito mansion has been marked in a tsunami warning after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia last night. The couple, who left the UK for California in January 2020, live with their young children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, in the coastal town of Montecito, situated in Santa Barbara County. The west coast state of California, including Santa Barbara County – and, therefore, the A-list enclave of Montecito – fell under the US National Tsunami Warning Center’s tsunami advisory issued on Tuesday night.

Warning against swimming in the sea or visiting beaches, those living in Harry and Meghan’s community were told that the risk ‘may continue for several hours after the initial wave’. It was this morning reported that the first waves sparked by the huge earthquake reached the shores of the US states of California and Hawaii.

Americans living along the Pacific were told to move to higher ground after the massive earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered tsunami alerts across Hawaii, Alaska and the West Coast. Evacuation orders were issued for low-lying areas of Hawaii overnight, with sirens blaring across parts of Oahu and residents seen scrambling to pack bags and flee inland. Many residents raced for higher ground to stay safe as the first tsunami waves hit Hawaii on Wednesday morning. The rush has triggered huge traffic jams stretching many miles.

[From The Daily Mail]

The Mail isn’t alone here – other British outlets are focusing on the “tsunami threat to Harry and Meghan.” Similar to what happened earlier this year with the Southern California wildfires, which primarily affected LA County. To the British media, Harry and Meghan were in the biggest threat zone! Anyway, as for the tsunami… it doesn’t look like this is the big one, thank god. People should still be safe and listen to all of the directions from local and state authorities.

Man, they are down bad for content. What is even the point of a story like this? That potential damage could happen? Okay I guess. I could see these sort of articles if there was confirmed damage whether from a tsunami, an earthquake, or the wildfires but basically these articles are Harry and Meghan live somewhere where natural disasters can occur?

This reminds me of a few years ago in the summer when they were dying for content, and they were writing about how their gardens could be in trouble because California was under a drought warning. Even with the ” working royals” on their summer break there has to be something else they could be focusing on.

Dee(2), I just checked and they were warning that waves could be less than a foot at Santa Barbara. At 7:00 (PDT), the warning was lifted for LA. There, so far, hasn’t been any reported damage along the West coast. Hawaii was hit fairly hard and Japan. Poor Japan. It seems like they always get hit. I think evacuations in both places were completed before the water hit.

      • Dee(2) says:

That’s good to hear that they were able to evacuate in Japan, they do seem to get the brunt of the crap when it comes to the Pacific rim.

See this is where a story about the impact of climate change and the erosion of coastlines and how governments could combat that would be great.

Instead we get a story about how a couple that lives a good distance from the coastline has their community under tsunami warning. And not even with concern for any of the people that live on the coastline or the businesses, just them.

    • If they can find anything that might concern the Sussexes in a bad way it will be breaking news!

Agree. They wish a natural disaster would hit them! That drought/grass story was a low point for the rats.

      Poor rats. Need feeding.

    • Gabby says:

The follow up story will be that the Sussexes need to move back to the UK.

Years ago my hubby was working in Hawaii at the power plant that was in the path of active lava flow, the DM had front page headlines about said power plant being overrun with lava and workers fleeing for their lives! Needless to say, I freaked and called my hubby immediately, well it was news to to him that the very site he was at was being overrun with lava, nor was anyone “fleeing for their lives”. I now always keep this in mind when reading the overwrought DM headlines.

British rags, in other words: ” We so very much hope that H&M lose their Califionian home, become broke and humilated, so that they can come back to Britain, so that we can abuse and harras then as we wish.”

    The desperation is real.

  4. HeatherC says:

So does this mean we won’t have an in depth follow up on how much water it takes to water the Montecito lawn?

And poor British media….it was cancelled.

  5. Aimee says:

Wow. They’re basically just saying it out loud now. “We hope you die from a tsunami.”

  6. Miranda says:

As soon as they announced the warnings for the west coast, I was wondering how long it would take before the Fail would make it about the Sussexes. Someone could spit on the road in Santa Barbara and they’d giddily proclaim that Montecito Manor was going to be swept out to sea at any moment.

  7. Nancy says:

Everyone can rest easy! The Sussex home is located a few miles away from the beach and on high ground. This storm poses them no risk.

  8. Shoegirl77 says:

In other news, the duchess has just announced another wine drop for next week 😍😍

  9. Jaded says:

This is so stupid. I’m in Victoria on Vancouver Island and we were under a tsunami warning here too. It was a nothingburger. About a foot and a slightly higher tide. Big whoop.

I love Meghan’s coat and glowing appearance. Kate could NEVER pull it off, but I bet she owns or will soon own the coat. But it will do nothing for her.
