Jamie Dornan got shirtless in a British commercial for Diet Coke

I’ve got some great news for anyone who was hoping for a literal Jamie Dornan thirst trap this summer! Jamie is a brand ambassador for Diet Coke right now and they just released a two-minute video commercial for their new campaign, “This is My Taste.” Its premise is that the average “Diet Coke break” lasts eight minutes, so the commercial features Jamie throwing his shirt off and taking a (presumably) eight-minute cold water plunge while people on the beach around him drink Diet Coke and creep on him shirtless in the water.

Diet Coke has launched the latest part of its ‘This Is My Taste’ campaign, with actor Jamie Dornan taking a cold water dip – lasting roughly eight minutes.

The campaign is built around the finding that the average Diet Coke break lasts that long, while encouraging Brits to reclaim time for themselves and the things they enjoy.

Dornan, it turns out, is a keen cold-water swimmer, hence we see him de-robe and enter the lake at Shepperton Open Water Swim, Surrey for a quick dip.

Tara Byrnes, senior brand manager for Diet Coke Great Britain, said: “The average Diet Coke break is eight minutes, creating a small but powerful moment to recharge, and Jamie Dornan brings this insight to life perfectly. His passion for cold-water swimming helps inspire others to embrace what you love and to make time for breaks to explore your tastes.”

Jamie Dornan commented: “Cold-water swimming is a passion that’s become very important to me, it’s my way of finding a moment for myself and I try to do it as often as I can. I hope that giving a peak behind the scenes of my lesser-known passion, inspires others to take a moment for themselves, crack open an ice-cold Diet Coke, and explore their own personal tastes.”

The campaign builds on the success of last year’s partnership with Dornan, which saw him introduced as the new Diet Coke ambassador. The visuals are supported by a multi-channel rollout, earned media, social media and influencer marketing.

The through-the-line campaign was developed by Spring Studios in partnership with Exposure, Ogilvy UK and Essence Mediacom.

It’s a fun commercial. From the music to the birding to the narration, “This is My Taste” feels SO British. I appreciate Jamie taking one for the team and showing off his bare abs while shilling for Diet Coke. I bet it was an easy, half-day long shoot. He looked like he was enjoying how cheesy it was. For extra shirtless-Jamie content, it also includes outtakes at the very end, which made me chuckle. I don’t know if it’s going to sell more sodas but having a half-naked Jamie Dornan is definitely raising awareness for their campaign.

Oh, and I had no idea that Jamie was into cold water plunges! Once upon a time, I thought I could get into those. Then our hot water tank died and we had to take cold showers for several days until someone could come fix it. That was when my cold water plunge aspirations ended. If only I’d had a Diet Coke for those cold showers. Maybe it would have made all the difference.

Didn’t know which river or lake this was but was concerned because haven’t they said most British waters are polluted? I’d be concerned for Jamie.

    British men age like milk

If anyone here hasn’t yet watched the movie “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” put on your culottes and stream it now! Everyone is excellent in it, but Jamie Dornan is absolutely hysterical and he fully commits to the bit. “Seagull on a tire, can you hear my prayer?” 😂

  4. Finn says:

It’s always nice to see that most UK celebrities (and often also other non US celebs) age kind-of normally.

He’s still such a habdsome guy and I’ve always appreciate his self-depricating humor.

  5. Nanea says:

I *hate* the taste of Diet Coke and prefer Coke Zero, if I have to drink any kind of coke.

    Fun ad though!
