The big winner at this year’s Emmys was AppleTV+’s The Studio. It won 13 out of the 23 awards that it was nominated for and set a record for most Emmys won by a series in its first season. Seth Rogen was a surprise win in the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category. He also won for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series and Directing for a Comedy Series. When he got up to accept his final award of the night, Seth gave an enthusiastic yet humble speech, admitting that he was “legitimately embarrassed” by The Studio’s big wins.
Creators Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck and Frida Perez accepted the award on behalf of the meta Apple TV+ show, which stars Rogen as well as Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Hahn as movie executives at the fictional Continental Studios.
Taking the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Rogen admitted he felt awkward about accepting his third trophy of the night after already winning Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Writing for a Comedy Series and Best Directing for a Comedy Series.
“Thank you, it’s getting embarrassing,” Rogen said on stage. “I really appreciate it, in all honesty. I’ll do my best attempt at sincerity here: If you watched our show, if you appreciated our show, if you voted for our show, especially, thank you very much.”
The Superbad actor continued, “I’m legitimately embarrassed by how happy this makes me. And to be standing up here with all these people, these are the best people I know. And to have them spend their days with me, working with me, is truly one of the great honors of my life.”
In addition to a nod in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, the Television Academy also recognized Rogen, O’Hara, Barinholtz and Hahn with acting nominations. Plus, actors Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie and Martin Scorsese—who made cameos in the satire—duked it out for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series alongside The Bear’s Jon Bernthal, with Cranston coming out on top.
I love how genuinely excited Seth was. It was his first big awards win after spending decades in the industry leaning into a stoner reputation. Good for him! I get him being embarrassed, too. I’m sure there was a touch of imposter syndrome going on there. He won against some pretty big properties, but his wins were deserved. Mr. Rosie and I watched The Studio last month, and loved it. It’s so funny! Seth and Ike Barinholtz were great, but it was particularly wonderful to see Catherine O’Hara and Kathryn Hahn do their thang. The actors who played exaggerated versions of themselves, like Zoe Kravitz, Dave Franco, and Anthony Mackie, were really great sports, too. Seth told Steven Colbert back in March that Hollywood had a mixed reception to The Studio, which I can totally believe. He also told Colbert that the main plot of the Golden Globes episode (IYKYK) was actually based on a real-life executive, who subsequently yelled at Seth when he found out that his behavior had inspired that plot.
Oh, and if you were disappointed that no one thanked Sal Saperstein last night, Seth explained to Deadline that it was simply because they didn’t want to be seen as tools. He said, “It’s our own joke. It feels weird to reference your own joke in my opinion.” I respect that. It would have gone better if an outside winner had thanked him, but with that 45 second timer for acceptance speeches, no one had time to indulge in any such jokes.

We really enjoyed the Studio. It’s cringey-awkward (especially the Golden Globes episode!) but also immensely watchable – I think we watched four episodes in a row with barely realizing it.
I’m not surprised it cleaned up, its very well done but also, hollywood loves hollywood.
I thought the last two-part episode of the season was a little over the top, but the early episodes are genuinely great. The episode with Sarah Polley and Greta Lee is amazing.
I feel like he and the team definitely deserved these wins.
That writer said Seth was in “Superbad” which he wasn’t, was he? Are they getting him confused with Jonah HIll? LOL if so. They both have curly hair light brown hair but otherwise really don’t look alike.
We love “The Studio.” I believe he is sincerely humbled by all of the accolades. Seth strikes me as pretty modest. He knows he’s funny but he’s not cocky.
They mislabeled him as the Superbad “actor” but he was one of the writers on it.
Oh, OK. I didn’t know he was one of the writers. That kind of clocks though.
He also did act in Superbad as a cop.
He was in Superbad. Played a cop with Bill Hader that has fun destroying a car with McLovin.
Tiffany I was just coming to say the same thing lol
Maybe I need to give it another try but I didn’t find it funny 😕 I watched maybe three episodes and that one with Greta Lee and the special shot pissed me off more than made me laugh but I’ve been told I don’t have a good sense of humour so *shrugs*
I was kind of on the fence too and was more or less only watching because it was kind of a slow season for us-
But by the time the Mr Koolaid casting episode rolled around I was sold lol
Sure, Jan.
Just kidding, I love Seth Rogen and The Studio! The brown velvet tux is heinous, as are all of the brown suits he wears on the show. It’s like he wants to live George Costanza’s dream 🙂
