In early July, Sean Combs was convicted of only two out of five federal charges in connection to his decades of abuse, trafficking, rape and more. I was surprised to see how the prosecution’s case seemingly fell apart throughout the trial, to the point where several federal charges were dropped before the case even went to the jury. I’d love for lawyers to explain what went wrong with the prosecution, or whether it was just a situation where a wealthy, powerful man escaped justice because people still don’t want to believe women. Anyway, Sean Combs has not been sentenced yet. The sentencing hearing is on October 3. In advance of the sentencing, Combs’ attorneys are asking for a reduced sentence because… Combs got sober in jail.
Sean “Diddy” Combs’s attorneys have outlined a lengthy list of reasons they believe he should be given a reduced prison sentence next month. On Monday, Sept. 22, the legal team filed a 182-page sentencing memo advocating for the music mogul, 55, to serve no more than 14 months in prison for the two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution convictions he received on July 2.
In the filing obtained by PEOPLE, his lawyers stated, “It is the only just and fair sentence that could be imposed. Mr. Combs’s near-13 months in prison has been life changing, productive, and a testament to his desire to return to his family and community and lead the best life possible,” his lawyers stated. “He has taken the time to achieve necessary rehabilitation from day one at the MDC [Metropolitan Detention Center] — including getting clean of all substances.”
The sentencing memo detailed Diddy’s life story, including his father’s murder when the rapper was only 3 years old and the “violent” relationships he had with his ex-girlfriends, who were involved in his convictions. Recalling the “profound form of trauma” he’s experienced throughout his life, Diddy’s lawyers also emphasized his struggle with “serious substance abuse.”
“Like every addict, his behavior while on painkillers was erratic and unpredictable, and often the reason behind any assaults discussed at the trial,” the filing obtained by PEOPLE states.
The lawyers noted that since being imprisoned, Diddy has become sober for the first time in years. They claim he is now “inspiring and helping” other inmates. The sentencing memo included that the Bad Boy Records founder has no prior criminal history and that he has seven children and an elderly mother who are reliant on him.
“He has served over a year in one of the most notorious jails in America—yet has made the most of that punishment,” the filing obtained by PEOPLE states. “It is time for Mr. Combs to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment and try to make the most of the next chapter of his extraordinary life.”
“A sentence no greater than 14 months is plainly ‘sufficient, but not greater than necessary’ to accomplish the purposes of sentencing…,” the filing adds.
“Like every addict, his behavior while on painkillers was erratic and unpredictable, and often the reason behind any assaults.” Eyeroll. While I absolutely believe Combs is an addict who has abused drugs for much of his adult life, I absolutely hate it when men with a lengthy history of abusing women blame their behavior on their drug use. Maybe Combs is sober and clean now – that doesn’t change the lives he’s ruined, nor does it mean that he won’t continue to harm people. All that being said, I feel certain that regardless of what kind of sentence is handed down, Combs’ lawyers will apply for a presidential pardon or commutation from the Trump White House. They’ve already laid the groundwork for it. I think they’ll probably get it too.

I will not be surprised when Trump pardons him
Well good for him. He got clean in jail where there’s really not supposed to be any drugs and he had no choice. What an achievement- not.
My exact thoughts too.
They couldn’t link him to Kim Porter’s death, really?
News Flash: Everyone gets sober in jail. You kindof have to.
What a vile POS! I can’t believe he got away with all of it. And painkillers don’t cause rape. Rapists cause rape. F**k him and his entire crew of abusers.
The more I hear about him, the more disturbed I get. For example, the bodyguard said they drugged the orange juice and the cranberry juice, not the alcohol. The men present at these parties knew this, so they avoided those juices. If you were a non-drinker, or just decided to stay sober and alert cause the industry is full of predators, and you sipped on a non-alcoholic juice to keep yourself safe, you got drugged. They also drugged some of the food (which the men avoided). Where were all the good men to warn women about the very real danger they were in just for showing up? Silent. Not their problem. This went on for decades.
I am teaching my son about consent. And to not be a bystander to criminality, especially where it involves crimes against a person. You see a woman or a girl or a child or anyone in a vulnerable position you speak up, you get help. Choose your friends carefully. You eventually become like the people you hang around. Puffy’s mama raised a real POS. His dad died when he was 2, so I can’t exactly put the blame on him.
Abhorrent. Repulsive. I’m not one to make rape jokes (I don’t like those don’t drop the soap jokes about jail etc.) but I do hope he experienced the same level of abuse he inflicted on others in jail.
He is one of the most loathsome people, and his buddy will pardon him. I am so sick of rapists and rape culture and the judicial system that dishes out zero consequences to rich and powerful men.
Oh, so he’s over his baby oil addiction?
Violent predator.
That monster will NEVER be clean. And that alleged sobriety will be over as soon as he can arrange his next gathering. Unless he’s too busy to party cause he’s the new Federal Entertainment Czar.
Announcement that he’s been born again + embraces MAGA and … in …3…2…1…
And one thinks he will remain sober once he’s out? Hardly… and his children aren’t toddlers and does he spoon feed his mother? He has enough money & family that they can take care of her and each other … he deserves every day of his sentence
Agree with everything you said, but on a happier note, I just wanted to say, I love your puppy dog photo, they are my favorite dogs, I am from Australia and I have a American Staffy, she is my world
