Prince William & Kate ‘can’t abide’ Prince Andrew & want him out of Royal Lodge

Tina Brown can be so hit-or-miss these days, but her Fresh Hell Substack this week was well-written and interesting. She devoted her entire column (“How Virginia Giuffre Finally Vanquished Prince Andrew”) to the situation with Prince Andrew, the late Virginia Giuffre, and the left-behind Windsors. Brown spends a good chunk of the piece focused on Andrew’s living arrangements at Royal Lodge, and how he absolutely needs to be moved to some other property, out of sight and out of mind. There’s some interesting stuff about how the Prince and Princess of Wales feel about it too.

But how do you disappear a 6-foot-tall, 190-pound, 65-year-old man in robust good health who has an iron-clad contract to live in the Queen Mother’s former mansion, a short neigh from Windsor Castle and just four miles from the new “forever” home of Prince William and Kate, who can’t abide him? In 2019, his mother, Queen Elizabeth, had already reluctantly stripped him of his military honors, his HRH title, and his royal duties. So this time, he lost the cherished title of Duke of York, plus a few remaining grand honorifics. Now, there is nothing left to deprive him of but his electric toothbrush.

The erstwhile Duke of Dross also relinquished the oldest chivalric medal of Most Noble Order of the Garter, which is marked by a procession at which creaking establishment honorees wear full ceremonial rig, including huge feathery Lady Bracknell hats—an odd sight, for instance, on Tony Blair. But that occasion has zero relevance to the British public, who mostly think of the garter ceremony, if they think about it at all, as some poncey royal excuse for dressing up. (William, who hates any kind of costume change, is looking forward, I am told, to getting rid of the garter flummery when he is calling the shots.)

So, in lieu of a Tower of London solution, unless Andrew can be persuaded to banish himself to a cottage on the Balmoral estate or a cushy villa on a Dubai golf course, his scowly, jowly visage will keep seeping back into the national consciousness.

On Friday, The Times reported that Andrew will not be invited to William’s coronation, whenever that occurs. The thornier question, perhaps approaching faster than anyone is indelicate enough to discuss, is whether, in the fullness of time, Andrew will be allowed to attend his brother, the king’s, funeral.

[From Tina Brown’s Fresh Hell]

Oh, so NOW William and Kate can’t “abide” Andrew? People keep bringing up these 2023 comments by Jennie Bond, in which she claimed that the Waleses “absolutely supported” Charles in his eviction of the Sussex family from Frogmore Cottage. The reason why they supported the eviction, according to Bond, was that Will and Kate “would rather have Andrew than Meghan and Harry as neighbours.” Now, the truth of it is that Will and Kate were already gunning for Royal Lodge for themselves, because Adelaide Cottage was always supposed to be the temporary solution for the issue of Kate’s separation house.

Anyway, I think Brown’s comment about King Charles’s funeral is an interesting one – will Scooter King allow Andrew to attend his brother’s funeral? You know what, I would actually be on Scooter’s side if he banned Andrew from all family funerals. It’s literally the least Scooter could do.

  1. Please don’t notice I’m in vacation AGAIN! I will jump onto the I hate Andrew bandwagon to cover for my need for more houses and more vacations. It’s literally just look over there not over here.

    • jais says:

Right? Please don’t notice I’m on vacation AGAIN! But while on vacation AGAIN!, I’m happy to brief how much I hate Andrew despite the fact that it was previously said that I’d prefer to live by Andrew than Harry. Gross. By all means, don’t invite him to your future coronation, good idea, but once again, deliver Andrew to the FBI or the Met police or something otherwise idc.

    • Becks1 says:

LOL for a second I thought you were on vacation!

And agreed, this is William trying to act like he’s involved and had a say in this so his name is in the press so people forget that he’s on his 10th vacation of the year.

  2. Tessa says:

this was the King’s decision and Scooter is not King. It makes her look greedy for new property they have been angling for the Lodge. . If this is trying to make Keen look good, it backfired. How much property do the Wales really need? Scooter drove out his own brother and made his sister in law’s life miserable and Keen was not exactly Kind. I have no sympathy for the Keens.

  3. Lady Esther says:

It’s even funnier when we now know how little is required for Charles to buy out Andrew’s lease and kick him out so William and Kate could have had Royal Lodge (thanks, The Times!) Charles could have done William a solid years ago, but….nope. LOL

    • Becks1 says:

100% .He could have bought out Royal Lodge for them, offered something else to Andrew (maybe Wood Farm, IDK) but nope. He refused. I wonder if W&K offered to buy it out with cornwall money and that’s when they were like fine here’s forest lodge.

  4. Amy Bee says:

I think I have figured out the British press and Royal Family’s obession with royal houses. Since they don’t inherit anything from the monarch and are reliant on the King for funding. Having a house is the only source of security or status for members of the royal family. Taking away Royal Lodge from Andrew is the ultimate punishment/humiliation in the Royal Family hence Harry and Meghan were evicted from Frogmore Cottage. It also explains why the press were upset when Harry and Meghan moved to Frogmore and why the Royal Family and the press were outraged when they found out that Harry and Meghan bought their own home in the US.

  5. Me at home says:

If Forest Lodge is Kate and Carole’s forever home, then it looks like they don’t want to run into Andrew on horseback. Poor babies.

    • Lurker says:

The mansions are 4 miles apart. Andy always sticks to Windsor ground when riding, nicely protected by the “ring of steel”.

While Forest Lodge is outside, hence the taxfunded security and the new 150 acres of land off limits. Shouldn’t Keen start taking riding lessons or take 4 mile nature walks (unlikely) they will hardly run into Andy and his poor horse.

I just love how the British media write about “direct neighbours” as if they would live in cluster houses, sharing a fence.

  6. Dee(2) says:

Goodness they’re all just so mercenary and disgusting. None of this is about the victims, the lies, the obfuscation. It’s all about what can I get out of this situation, how can I get good PR out of it. Please don’t speak about our fifth home and us angling for a sixth. Also don’t note we haven’t had any events in the past week.

  7. Faraway says:

What I still cannot understand is how in various media outlets they still can’t stop mentioning Harry &Meghan in the same breath and to tar them with the same brush as Andrew. Is that how much hate of the Sussexes the media has bred into the public’s mind and opinion that they feel H&M are comparable to Andrew? My God, the man’s actions are revolting, criminal! And yet to the public it seems that speaking out about how they were mistreated by the Firm and outing the royal family ( cos that’s all they did) is equal to these truly disgusting acts of Andrew.
    Too sad for words

    • Deborah1 says:

The British public’s hate for Harry and Meghan has been entirely manufactured by the royal family via their friends in the British press. I find it sickening. You only have to read the comment sections in the tabloid press to know how much manufactured hate there is. I see no end to it, sadly.

    • Me at home says:

I want to tell myself the unhinged hate is largely KP’s bots. Certainly, some of it is. But just as certainly, some of it is real racist, misogynist, and unhinged Brits.

  8. Libra says:

Goodbye Forest Lodge and hello new forever home Royal Lodge. You all were right that this was going to be a temporary move.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Bingo – they’ve been gunning for Royal Lodge for years. The entitled property collecting of the Wails is out of control.

      • Becks1 says:

I would love that to happen. For them to move into Forest Lodge and then in a year have it be announced they’re moving to Royal Lodge. That’s clearly been their goal this whole time – that or Ft Belvedere which isn’t an option but don’t tell them that – so I think they’ll end up there and then the press will have to scramble to explain why they needed yet another forever home and how forest lodge has too many memories of pillow fights.

  9. Deborah1 says:

Hypocrites, the lot of them – with Scooter King being the worst of all! So now we are told that Royal Lodge is four miles away from W&K’s “forever home”. Four miles? That’s not exactly close, so what was all the fuss about last week with the various press briefings on how Scooter King did not want Andrew as his near neighbour? Four miles is far enough away for neither of them to ever set eyes on each other on a day to day basis. No, Scooter King just wants Royal Lodge for himself because he would prefer to be four miles away from Kate. As for KCIII’s funeral, both Harry AND Andrew should be allowed to attend. Whatever Harry and Andrew may have done in the eyes of Scooter King, they should be allowed to pay their respects to a father and brother. It’s common decency and I will be very angry if either or both of them are banned from the funeral.

    • sunnyside up says:

I certainly agree about Harry, to ban him from his father’s funeral would be the act of a horrid person. Harry had done nothing wrong, calling out racism and sticking up for his wife are both good things.

  10. anna says:

the funny thing is if they keep saying this stuff and nothing happens – not that anyone thought william has any power to begin with, but this just proves it.

  11. Morning says:

I thought that Andrew could be evicted if the Royal Lodge was not kept in good repair…I don’t think he should be invited to either the funeral or the coronation.

  12. Jay says:

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, as the Andrew situation is one that I think William would actually be on the right side of if he wanted to pursue it. Andrew is hardly beloved by the public, and people rightfully resent the privileges and protections he still enjoys. I think most people would be in favour of taking away his uncle’s titles and tossing him out of Royal Lodge – it would certainly distract from being known as William the Workshy! And wouldn’t that Royal Lodge be perfect for the other Wales children someday? It would be a decisive and (in my opinion) very popular move for William to make…but I don’t think he has the wherewithal to do anything other than wish out loud to his pals in the rota. He would have to undercut his own father and the courtiers who are desperately trying to sell the public on their weak half-measure. He would have to be gathering political support behind the scenes to execute his plan, and that would also have to include a plan for what to ultimately do with Andrew that doesn’t jeopardize the entire monarchy. Nah – William will moan and give furious quotations to his favourite sycophants behind the scenes, but I just don’t think he has the skill or motivation to really get behind any actual moves.

  13. Over it says:

Didn’t the vacationers go to Easter service with Andy and happily too? All the way to church? They didn’t seem to mind then and they darn sure don’t mind now . They just want people to think it’s an issue for them because people are paying attention now to the situation. With these folks . It’s never what they say . It’s what our eyes actually see and we all see that they were all fine with all of it until it started to look bad for them

    • BeanieBean says:

Yep, and it was not all that long ago so well after all revelations about him & Virginia & Epstein & Maxwell.

  14. Andrea says:

Andrew moving to Abu Dhabi is this persistent meme in the press coverage but who would pay for him to rot there? And I can’t imagine anyone would be mollified by him moving into the lap of luxury even if it got him out of RL.

  15. Nic919 says:

Every time they try to distance themselves from Andrew, not only does that church drive photo need to be posted but also the story where they briefed that they would rather be neighbours with Andrew than Harry and Meghan.

  16. Myself says:

Ban him from the televised funeral. Allow him to attend the family-only private burial. (assuming CIII will be interred at the royal family burial ground at Frogmore

  17. Ciotog says:

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor weighs a lot more than 190 pounds.

  18. Elly says:

Andrew should be extradited to the US. He should be in jail.

  19. HuffnPuff says:

Why would anyone want Royal Lodge? It looks like an asylum for royals that need to be locked away. On that note, why couldn’t Andrew stay there and they just add in others as needed?
