Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to 38%, mostly because of the Epstein Files

Reuters did exclusive polling on Donald Trump’s approval rating. Long story short, he’s underwater at 38%. This is a reminder, though, that Trump still has his core MAGA base. There are still millions of people – 38% of the country – who support this demented madman regardless of his fascism, his anti-Americanism, his coziness with authoritarians, his tanking of the American economy, his dumbf–k tariffs, his administration’s responsibility for the deaths of 600,000 men, women and children. Reuters pointed out that Trump’s falling approval rate had more to do with the Epstein files though:

President Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to 38%, the lowest since his return to power, with Americans unhappy about his handling of the high cost of living and the investigation into the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The four-day poll, which concluded on Monday, comes as Trump’s grip on his Republican Party shows signs of weakening. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a measure to force the release of Justice Department files on Epstein. Trump had opposed the move for months while one of his closest supporters in Congress, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, turned into a harsh critic over his resistance. Trump reversed his position on Sunday as lawmakers prepared to move forward without him.

[From Reuters]

Trump’s reversal on the Epstein files was interesting, and it was honestly a moment of old-school, pre-Trump-era politics. Like, there was wheeling and dealing behind-the-scenes within the Republican House and Senate majorities, and several Republicans stood up to Trump when it actually mattered (on a pretty narrow issue, but still). The House passed their bill to release the Epstein files with only one dissenting vote. The Senate unanimously voted to release the files as well, so now it’s “up to Trump” to sign the bill. I genuinely don’t know what will happen next, other than 38% of the country will still stand by Trump even when they find out the extent of his predatory degeneracy.

My bet is that his name and the names of any of his residences will be black barred. It’ll be easy to read between the lines, but it will give his hardcore supporters plausible deniability 🙁

In response to the “quiet, piggy” comment, the White House just stated: “You have to be able to take it.”

NO! No. No one has to be able to take abuse. Abuse is wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The **president** is the one who has to be able to take the pressure. If he cannot handle a normal question, then he should leave the job. That reporter was doing. her. job. She does not have to tolerate his b.s. tantrums while she brings facts to the American people.

Honest to god, when will his evil flying monkeys stop normalizing this madman’s behavior!??!?!

I know there are things that are so much more consequential and upsetting, but something about the demolition of the east wing of the WH and the piggy comment has really upset Americans (including myself) in a way that must never be forgotten.

When all of this is over (to the extent that it can even end) we’re gonna have to reckon with the moral decay; the moral rot that the MAGA movement has unleashed.
Too early to talk about the next national election but the singular quality that has to be a non-negotiable for whoever the Dem candidate is: strong and consistent moral clarity. A strong moral core to re-set how far we’ve moved away from basic human decency

The major evidence is already gone by now for him to be comfortable enough to encourage the release of files. Only a career person protecting this stuff would prevent it, and he’s driven as many of those folks out as he can.

There will be things, but the incriminating videos and pictures? Gone. He will successfully talk around redactions and he will excuse anything as “locker room talk”.

It’s a lot of material. I hope that someone did a Daniel Ellsberg and copied pictures/video and took them out. There is too much corruption to trust Pam Bondi and her team who have combed through looking to remove his name from the most sensitive evidence.

  4. KC says:

I think that he is in such a bubble, reeks of egoism, damaged by dementia that he thinks it won’t matter anyway. He gets impeached one more time.?

The man has NO shame whatsoever so what does he care if people know how depraved he is. He’s already said it himself. He could kill someone and they wouldn’t come for. him, he can grab pussy, he can ogle teen girls, and the photos and videos of him with Epstein are all over the place. Come on, he’s told us repeatedly what kind of monster he is.

  5. jais says:

This man got re-elected so I feel whatever about his low polls. It’s all so messed up. And I don’t trust the files to be released without editing his name and any photos. This man is currently parading a murderer around the WH.

    • Henny Penny says:

Agreed. He’s polled this low many, many times and yet he tore down the East Wing and not a single person or agency stepped in to stop it. It’s just like in Germany where 1/3 of the people tortured and killed 1/3 of the people while the remaining 1/3 of the people stood around and did nothing to stop it. I really wish the 62% of the people who don’t approve would do something more significant than voice their objections because that’s clearly not sufficient.

@Kaiser-Yeah it’s disgusting that he still has so many people supporting him and I have no doubt that he will always have a loyal group of passionate supporters—but I really do think that number is gonna drop more. We’re not even one year in and the catastrophic effects of his *tax cut for the rich* bill hasn’t been fully felt by the American public yet. A lot of the SS, Medicaid cuts will kick in after the midterms. Rural hospitals will close, healthcare premiums will skyrocket, inflation will climb, utilities will continue to double and triple etc etc
Trump can only gaslight so much about affordability. He can’t erase people’s lived experiences and Americans are gonna be struggling financially like we haven’t in decades.

If he starts a war in Venezuela and gets American boots on the ground, I think his approval rating tumbles even more.
I still struggle to control my seething hatred for the people who continue to support him but I take small comfort in the fact that in the end, they’ll likely suffer the most.

  7. wordnerd says:

Not to sound ignorant or doltish, but does he even care about his approval rating? He doesn’t need to get reelected, he does whatever he wants currently, and the only big push would be for the mid-terms, but we have no idea how “free and fair” those will be.

Also….when is someone going to leak the real Epstein files? We really need a hero right now.

    • BeanieBean says:

Yes, he cares. He’s that much of a nut job.

And I’d say the Epstein Estate is doing pretty well. They’re the reason–along with Bloomberg News–that we’ve had this massive dump of emails recently. And as somebody pointed out, the surviving victims sure as h*ll know who abused them.

    • AJS says:

He doesn’t care about his approval ratings. He knows there’s so plans for him to leave the White House. I’d bet money on it.

  8. jferber says:

He’s 79 years old. He must have a colossal will to live because of the power he already has and is seizing every day. I hope God takes a good, close look at him and do what needs to be done. I’ll say no more.

  9. jferber says:

    Sorry, “does” and not “do.”

  10. guilty pleasures says:

How, in the name of all that is holy (or unholy, pick your poison) does that colossal turd have ANY FREAKING APPROVAL??? He should have a dozen uber rich assholes, and that is it.
What a time to be alive. Living a gross historical event spanning 15 years.

  11. AJS says:

We all know it will have redactions due to “ongoing investigations.” Or some nonsense about national security, blah blah blah. They already sent Ghislaine to the club med prison, so they definitely got her to shut her trap against Trump. Zero consequences will be had. As per usual.
