Rose Byrne in Valentino at the ’26 Critics Choice: lovely or dated?

In my opinion, the Critics Choice Awards were not a buffet of spectacular fashion. Which is fine – this was not the moment for women to pull out their biggest looks of the season, because this is a marathon, not a sprint! Rose Byrne is one of the big contenders in the Best Actress race for her role in If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You. She lost the CCA to Jessie Buckley, and I predict that there will be a lot of back-and-forth between Byrne and Buckley in the coming months. Rose looked good though – she wore Valentino. I’m not a huge fan of the ruffle, but she’s so beautiful, she can pull off anything.

Renate Reinsve wore The Row. She’s probably going to get some big nominations for Sentimental Value (which I loved), but her style is very… European.

Mia Goth in Dior. Boring. But she’s getting paid – she’s a Dior/Miss Dior ambassador.

Ali Larter in Nina Ricci. A satin slipdress? What is this, 1999?? I actually like the dress but her bolt-ons look somewhat painful.

Jessica Williams in Bora Aksu. This is very occasion-specific for me – I would dislike this dress at a more serious event, but since it’s for the Critics Choice, I’m fine with it. It’s cheeky and fun.

Renate Reinsve looks lovely — that dress is really pretty.

I like the Dior. Everything else is meh to me. Ali Larter forgot her white hood.

Rose’s dress looks like two other dresses smooshed together. Either may have been better than this.

Here’s my critique for what it’s worth. Rose’s dress would have been beautiful without that big ruffle. Renate’s looks unbalanced like there should be something at the top maybe a large necklace would balance it. Ali’s slip dress was blah and Jessica’s dress looks like a slip or petticoat from the 1800’s. Mia’s was not flattering to her figure but would be beautiful if it skimmed over her hips instead of hugging them. All that being said I think they are all gorgeous.
