Bad Bunny: You ‘don’t even have to learn Spanish’ to enjoy the Halftime show

On Thursday, Bad Bunny did his big press conference ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl. People have been throwing hissy fits about Bad Bunny being named as the Halftime headliner for months, but he’s worn it well. He’s coming into the Halftime show as the newly-crowned Album of the Year Grammy-winner and one of the biggest global superstars in music. These days, Apple Music hosts the Halftime performers’ press conference, and apparently no one has ever seen so many credentialed press people gather for the presser. Journalists were posting videos of the long lines to get into the press conference and it was really cool to see the interest. I’m including Bad Bunny’s full interview at the end of the post. He spoke about how people can enjoy the show without being fluent Spanish-speakers.

Following his big wins at the Grammy Awards this past weekend, Bad Bunny now has his sights set on this Sunday’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, teasing that his performance is going to be a “huge party” and that viewers “don’t have to learn Spanish” to enjoy it. The Puerto Rican musician appeared alongside Apple Music’s Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden for an official interview before the big day, discussing what fans should anticipate.

“I really as I said, I want people to have fun. It’s going to be a huge party, it’s going to be what people can always expect from me, I don’t know if that is something,” he said. “That’s what I want to bring to the stage. Of course, a lot of my culture, but I don’t want to give any spoilers. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be easy. People only have to worry about… I know that I told them that they had four months to learn Spanish. They don’t even have to learn Spanish. It’s better if they learn to dance. There’s no better dance than the one that comes from the heart, the heartbeat dance, that’s the only thing they need to worry about and enjoy. And of course choose your team at the game.”

Bad Bunny said that he’s prepping for his performance by “eating Smashburgers” and “[thinking] about the Super Bowl Halftime Show at 4 a.m.” He shared that he found time to rehearse amid his tour and didn’t over-stress, opting instead to “take it easy.”

“Wake up, work out, [drink] my coffee, not think too much about it,” he said. “Last night, I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about it. But yeah, I want to think that it’s just 30 minutes doing something that I love, that I like, and it’s just like that. I’m trying to enjoy it and I know that I’m going to have fun. All the crew, all the people. They’re going to have fun that day. That’s what I’m trying to focus. Just enjoy the moment, enjoy what is happening, what I’m doing. Trying not to put pressure or something on it.”

I’m excited, even though I only know un poquito Espanol. It’s my hope that people just watch for the excellent vibes. I trust that Benito will rise to the occasion.

I’m excited for this. I think its going to be exactly what we (well what I) expect and want from a halftime show – a spectacle in the best sense of the word.

I think in general for many English speaking Americans, they like to listen to music in English, or at least that’s what the record companies assume. but across the world, people don’t only listen to music in their native language. you can enjoy music and get the vibe of music without knowing every single word. And I think American companies are finally catching on to that. Look at the success of K-pop in the US.

I have a feeling this is going to be an epic super bowl halftime performance.

This is the only reason I’m planning to watch the SuperBowl. Have never watched before. 😁

I’m just turning it on for the halftime show. If needing to understand the words to music I listen to, many, many English speakers would be stricken from my list. Enunciation of lyrics wasn’t a huge part of the 90s. Or the 80s.

Ok I had to check and see when the Super Bowl was happening. Got it. This Sunday. That means I’ll be watching the halftime show and rooting for the Seahawks even if I don’t watch the game. I lived in NY for too long to ever root for the Pats. Also means it’s puppy bowl time! Woohoo! Anyways, aside from bad bunny doing all the amazing stuff he will do, I’m hoping green day plays American Idiot with him. Maybe in Spanish. LOL. That would be epic.

Millions of people in the US speaks Spanish, despite Trump and his Maga cult.
And don’t get me started around the world. I think it’s a great idea.

I love Bad Bunny I have no idea what he’s saying but he brings the party.

    I love the Spanish language!

  6. Grimly Fiendish says:

I’m a monolingual American and one of my favorite bands is French Canadian. When the music is good or touches your soul, then the language doesn’t matter.

Agreed! One of my favorite music genres is Brazilian bossa nova, and I can’t understand one word of the lyrics. Maybe someday I’ll learn some Portuguese…

  7. Goldenmom says:

Bought his new cd and it is a BANGER. And I don’t speak Spanish beyond some travel basics. The music is excellent, can never sit at my desk to listen, end up dancing around the room. Which the dogs find confusing but they jump around too.

It will be hard for the MAGAs to enjoy it and dance with their heads so far up their asses.

No one who wears animals who suffered cruelty in this age and without need is of any sort of humanity I’d consider. Despicable.
