Aubrey Plaza, 41, is expecting her first child with partner Chris Abbott

Last year, Aubrey Plaza’s estranged husband Jeff Baena died by suicide. Baena and Plaza were together for years, but they separated in September 2024, and they were not living together in early 2025. Plaza told police that Baena’s behavior was concerning in the lead-up to their separation, and he also texted her hours before his death. It was a tragedy all around, and people really felt sorry for Aubrey. She took some time away, but she’s been making some public appearances, like the Loewe show in Paris last month. Well, as it turns out, Aubrey was hiding a baby bump at Paris Fashion Week. She’s expecting her first child. She’s been in a relationship with Chris Abbott.

Aubrey Plaza is pregnant! A source tells PEOPLE that Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, Chris Abbott, and is due this fall.

“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source says, adding that “they feel very blessed.”

A rep for Plaza confirmed the news to PEOPLE. Plaza, 41, and Abbott, 40, have previously collaborated on the Off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea and the 2020 film Black Bear.

He’s currently starring on Broadway in the revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman opposite Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf.

Congrats to them! I would imagine that her priorities really changed after Jeff’s death, and she wanted to really move on. Aubrey is 41, you know? Anyway, I’m happy for Aubrey and Chris. He’s a cutie – I know I’ve seen him in something but I can’t quite place it… let me look up his IMDB. Oh, I know him from Poor Things! And The Sinner. He works a lot, actually.

I’ve always loved her. I watched her appearance on Amy Pohler’s podcast after her husband’s death and she was so lovely and fragile, breathtakingly brave. I hope this baby brings her peace.

  2. Lucy says:

Congratulations to them! I really like her, I hope they have a long healthy relationship and a happy baby.

It was so sad to hear about her husband’s death, and he died a couple of months after a dad in our neighborhood took his life. He left behind his wife and two kids, and I found out this weekend it was related to gambling. Draft kings and those companies need to be shut down.

  3. Brubs says:

you’ve probably seen him on Girls, no? That’s where I always recognize him from, he was Marnie’s boyfriend and a regular for a few seasons

    anyways congrats to them both

I wish Aubrey every happiness. What a traumatic thing she had to go through last year.
