Russell Brand & Katy Perry got married in India today

I apologize in advance for the somewhat crappy photos for this story – although paparazzi are getting nice shots of some of the crap surrounding Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s wedding, there are very few “money shots” of the bride and the groom, so I’m just making do. Anyway, according to Us Weekly, Brand and Perry are officially married! They got hitched today in India, near the tiger sanctuary where Russell proposed to Katy. It was a traditional Indian ceremony, apparently.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married Saturday in a traditional Indian ceremony, UsMagazine.com has learned. They exchanged vows in front of 80 or so guests at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan (the same spot where Brand, 35, proposed to Perry – who turns 26 Monday – this past December).

The new Us Weekly reports that Brand planned to ride into the ceremony on a horse, flanked by camels and elephants. Perry was also planning to have a rotating bridal wardrobe from designers Zuhair Murad and Donna Mizani, Us reports.

One thing’s certain: Perry fully embraced Indian tradition for the ceremony. Days before tying the knot, she was spotted wearing a traditional Indian bridal nose ring. It is worn by brides throughout the wedding day, with the groom removing it on the wedding night.

Despite the lavish ceremony, Brand recently told fans at a New York Times “TimesTalks” Q&A in NYC: “We just love each other and we want to get married in front of our friends and family and keep it very normal. It ain’t about selling the pictures, it ain’t about doing no pre-nup, it’s just a normal thing.

“I’m trying to preserve it, to keep it a beautiful thing,” explained Brand, who first met Perry last year on the set of his comedy, Get Him to the Greek, in which Perry had a cameo that was cut. “I think people get the wrong idea on how we want the wedding to play out. Love between two people is the most spectacular, yet ordinary thing in the world.”

The couple’s post-wedding plans? According to the Associated press, they have hired 13 vehicles to take some of their guests on tours of the tiger sanctuary. The newlyweds are staying in a luxury tent at the Aman-i-Khas resort, with guests staying at the nearby Vanyavilas and Sher Bagh resorts, the AP reports.

“They make each other laugh,” a pal tells Us of the newlyweds. “They have a chill chemistry.”

Brand agrees. During his Times talk, he told fans, “The relationship is very important to me. It means growing up. Love between two people is the most spectacular, but ordinary, thing in the world.”

Eh. I mean, they’re in love, and good for them and congratulations on their wedding. I give it a year. CB thinks Katy is going to get pregnant right away though, which could mean the marriage lasts a bit longer? Although I do NOT think Katy will have a baby right away, although I doubt Russell would mind. I get the feeling this whole thing is less about wanting to spend his life with Katy and more about him wanting to see if he would be any good at marriage. Like, it’s a personal challenge for him. We’ll see.

I think it’s all about getting two-for-one discounts on fright-wig-black hair dye.

  2. Kaye says:

I’m sorry but the words “luxury tent” made me laugh. It sounds like an oxymoron to me. I’m sure it’s very nice, just sounds silly.

I do think having a traditional Indian wedding is pretentious when no one is actually Indian.

  3. Mizz Tickles says:

I think CB is correct that Katy Perry will get pregnant right away – the baby pics will be a boon to both of their careers.

  4. lisa says:

Not into her at all..but I find him extremely funny and Honest. I like that. I don’t make bets on relationships. The ones that people think are not going to last.. LAST a long time..and the ones people get behind and think are perfect.. Well they blowup..

So we will see when we see.

    I hate destination weddings..

  5. hmm says:

“luxury tent” made me giggle until I realized it was probably more substantial than my house. One thing that keeps Katy Perry on the gossip sites is her front–why does it look so nondescript (ie, normal) in the last pic?

  6. Chickaboom says:

What’s really cool is that by having it at the tiger sanctuary, that means that they donated a huge chunk of money to the tigers. I hope they’re happy with each other and I’m glad for them, but I think they are awesome for doing it there.

  7. Mel says:

I don’t know why but I think this marriage will last a good while….maybe it’s because I can’t imagine either of them with anyone else.

  8. Kimmm says:

Congrats to them both but watch Katy’s head inflate even bigger .

  9. They actually seem pretty well suited, i just wanna see pics of Rihanna at the wedding lmao

  10. db8ng1 says:

Kaiser, when you said it seems like a personal challenge to Brand (re marriage), I read it as “physical challenge”. Suddenly, I heard Marc Summers from Double Dare calling them over to slide through a baby pool of green slime only to ask them to fish out the silly orange flag for some extra points….

    Anyone, anyone?

It’s too early and this story is too boring. Katy & Russell – best of luck.

  11. lucy2 says:

The majority of her fame is based on her figure – I’d be surprised if she got pregnant right away, but stranger things have happened.

These two seem more into the publicity it’s brought both of them, I wouldn’t put money on it being a very long term marriage, but who knows.

  12. malachais says:

Its hard to say, but I can see Russell settling down with her, and Katy getting bored of him after a bit. We’ll see.

  13. Diva says:

Love him (always have!) and like her, so I wish them well!

  14. Susan says:

He just has this stare and look in his eyes that has ALWAYS creeped me out. I want to like him, but he is kinda freaky! I think she is just a pair of boobs…I hate to post negative comments, but I really don’t like her…

  15. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Tradional Indian wedding? For real? Who is Indian? Neither, this sounds like stupid celebrity bullshit to me.

Anywho, I still give this marriage 2 years at best.

  16. albeli says:

He’s an ass. I hope he gets into some legal trouble for having his henchman attack those photographers at the wildlife park.

  17. SoulLovah says:

I feel like this is just good chemistry, good friendship and lots of lust. But no real love.

  18. original kate says:

india is beautiful so i can see why they chose the location, but why the ceremony? is one of them indian? if not what is the point of having a wedding where the symbolism of the culture & religion mean nothing to you? stupid.

yeah, i think if mr. original kate & i get married we’ll have a traditional bantu ceremony, even though we are a couple of american whiteys. that way we can seem much more interesting than we actually are.

  19. Elm says:

I think the traditional Indian wedding has a spiritual basis compared to say, a white church wedding where vows are pronounced for legal purposes.

Personally I would not travel overseas for a wedding, there are too many lovely venues near me …. but each to their own.

From both Russell & Katy I get the feeling that they are deep and bohemian and ultimately, its their special private day – good luck to them for ever!

  20. OtherChris says:

Lucy2, I agree. She’s not going to get pregnant right away because her body is pretty much her entire career.

I give it 2.5 years, tops. I give her career another 7 months.

  21. HotPockets says:

Ya know..I like them as a couple and see why they’re a good fit for each other. I think everyone deserves to meet someone who compliments them, not in words, but as a mate. Marriage doesn’t always work, especially with fame, but it still means something. I think this is their first marriage, for both of them and I hope it does last.

I know Russel always had his rep of being a womanizer, but for god sakes, the man is in his mid thirties and banging different chicks night after night has to become more like a chore. I really hope those days are behind him.

  22. Rosi says:

just can’t take them seriously, sorry.

  23. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Ugh Russell you could have done so much better.

  24. Saor says:

I’d love for them to prove me wrong, but there is no way in hell this is a marriage that’s lasting forever. 2 years is what I’m saying.

  25. Lindsay says:

    Wow. She’s lucky, lucky, lucky.

That last pic is gorgeous. I’d be laughing like that all the time if I was with him. Except in bed. Then I’d be serious.

    Lucky.

  26. Samigirl says:

I agree. I believe this is only Katy’s first wedding. I would be SHOCKED if this lasts longer than a few years.

  27. Chris says:

“I feel like this is just good chemistry, good friendship and lots of lust. But no real love.”

Plenty of people have settled for less.

  28. Rachael says:

This is just Russell having a go at monogamy and trying to prove he’s not still as disgusting as in his book so he can have a rockin’ movie career.

I give it a year. She’s just putty in his hand.

  29. jc126 says:

@19 said: I think the traditional Indian wedding has a spiritual basis compared to say, a white church wedding where vows are pronounced for legal purposes.

WHAT? A church wedding IS for spiritual purposes! A wedding where only the legality is important, someone would probably go to city hall. Goodness.

It does seem pretentious for them to have an Indian ceremony when neither is apparently Indian, but if they’re giving money to the tigers, that’s nice.

She’s insufferable, I think. No predictions on whether she’ll get pregnant ASAP. And I think she has implants, just ftr.

  30. fwozbo says:

I think she is rebelling against her Christian pastor parents. Maybe that is a good idea.

    Wishing her the best.

  31. Shannon says:

LOL db8ng1, that mental imagery is hilarious. Especially because I’m imagining them doing it in wedding clothes!

  32. texasmom says:

I don’t care for her much, but they do seem to have some real chemistry. I’m surprised they have even stayed a couple, much less get married — maybe they’ll surprise us even more by staying married!

  33. belle Epoch says:

Before Katy came along he was all over the place, ahem. But he seems to have decided in true love and monogamy! Amazing!

He seems a WHOLE lot smarter than she. I wonder what part of him will get bored first, the big head or the little head?

  34. alejandro says:

I don’t think he’ll settle down with her, maybe that’s what his intentions are but I don’t think it will work out that way. Maybe an ethereal beauty like Vanessa Paradis who was able to get Johnny Depp to settle down.

Katy seems just so shallow and just tits, that’s all I see with her and fart jokes. She’s got a rocking bod but not much else.

  35. heathen says:

Kaiser: You killed me with the “I give them a year” line! I actually think they will last longer than a year, but definitely no more than 5. And I predict that when the split comes Brand will say “Falling out of love with a person is the most ordinary thing in the world.”

  36. Javagirl1 says:

No way L.A. Katy could do so much better! Kaiser I completely agree with your prediction.

  37. chris says:

They seem cool together but I don’t get the rush. Everything is happening way too fast.

  38. Megan says:

They look like brother and sister, why did they get married? Want to see pics though.

  39. lisa says:

    @FUTURESTARdelux

According to some reports Rihanna didn’t make the wedding..

I wonder if that little negative talk she has been doing in her recent interviews is the real reason.
It was reported that she did not attend because of work committments.

    But again just rumor.

  40. Vicky Cathay says:

I think the fact that she recently publically called out an ex boyfried from the stage, and berated him on his choices say it all. People in love stop caring about exes. If she thought she had found “the one”, she would know that the ex wasn’t “the one”, and getting dumped was part of the natural progression leading up to her finding Brand.

Everyone gets dumped. She thinks she is too great to get dumped? Her display of putting her ego first says it all. That kind of ego is too big to allow anyone to commit to anyone but themself. I don’t pretend to know anything about these people, but public behavior is very telling.

  41. DetRiotgirl says:

About Katy publicly calling out an ex, I think it was in repsonse to her ex (Travie McCoy) putting out an entire mix tape called “forgetting Katy Perry”. On that mix tape, he does a song that I think is called “don’t pretend” in which he accuses Katy of cheating on him during the end of their relationship. The implication is pretty clearly that she was with Brand for months while was still publicly with Travie McCoy.

There’s really no evidence to support this claim, although Russel and Katy’s lightening speed romance doesn’t help stop any suspicion that Travie’s song may have caused. But, either way, I can sort of see why Katy felt the need to say something back. She doesn’t seem like the type to let something like that go without a fight.

One thing’s for sure, if Travie’s accusations turn out to be true, it’s pretty much the only interesting piece of gossip I’ve ever heard about this couple. In general, they are a real snooze fest. However, I hope they are happy together and I wish them well in their marriage! I’m not usually a fan of ridiculous, over the top, destination weddings. But, I admit, I do want to see pictures of this one. What can I say? I’m a sucker for Elephants and Tigers!

  42. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

A lot of money, time, re-arrangements and general hassle for a danged cash bar.
I don’t understand destination weddings, isn’t that the honeymoon?

  43. Kate says:

Did they marry there because the rupee is so low at the moment?

  44. Dee Vine says:

Aman-i-khas is spectacular. My friend had her 40th birthday there. Great place for wedding. However, can’t see this marriage lasting cos Russell Brand gets annoying after 5 mins, cant imagine being married to him!

  45. NayNay says:

I do not understand these two. Yes, in my opinion, they are both weirdos, but aside from that, I do not get these two. They got married in India. Does anybody think this marriage is going to last? Let’s hope it does, but I’m not holding my breath.

  46. Lway says:

    They are GORGEOUS! Love them!!

  47. bitca says:

Brit tabs say Russell is a KRISHNA, so his Spiritual Counselor is based in India. Ew; better than Scientology tho… I guess. & it’s a blast to imagine him setting out for LAX in robes to chant & sell incense.

One of the UK papers—Sunday Mail perhaps?—published a hilarious account of the nuptials & endless self-penned vows. Even if the article was 85% fiction, I’ve decided to believe it 😉

  48. MissyA says:

Late to the party, as always. I just wanted to say that I’d love to be invited to a traditional Indian wedding. While Mr. Missy and I were traveling north towards Darjeeling, we met an awesome kid who was working hard to pay off the projected cost of his (secret) finance’s wedding. He figured if he could come up with a substantial sum (apparently it’s nothing to spend $20,000 on a wedding ceremony), it would lessen the blow to his parents that his girlfriend Hindu (not Muslim).

I don’t know, neither the Mr or I are Indian, but we did get mostly-engaged in Delhi. I love India very much and I don’t see the harm in forming a formal commitment there.

  49. Crash2GO2 says:

“yeah, i think if mr. original kate & i get married we’ll have a traditional bantu ceremony, even though we are a couple of american whiteys. that way we can seem much more interesting than we actually are.”

    LOL!!! Exactly.

  50. Mingo says:

Ugh. They deserve each other. Now maybe we’ll all be less often subjected to either one of them.

  51. Newyorking says:

I think its fine if they did a traditional Indian wedding. I mean, they have the money and the time, why not pick a wedding of their dreams? Indian weddings are beautiful and a lot of fun, and they can span a few days. Rajasthan is beautiful and historical – good for them.

  52. Lynda says:

meh…neither impress me ever. Both stand on the diving board that hangs over the crazy pool.

  53. Indian girl says:

lol…. “wearing a traditional Indian bridal nose ring. It is worn by brides throughout the wedding day, with the groom removing it on the wedding night.”. What a joke….I am Indian and have not heard of any such thing!!!!
