Mark Wahlberg & Christian Bale’s bizarre Photoshopped Sports Illustrated cover

si

I don’t mean to be a bitch, but I don’t buy that Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg posed for this Sports Illustrated cover. I’ll buy that Mark Wahlberg – star and producer of The Fighter – will do anything to promote his movie, and that he’s not afraid of doing some old-school shirtless photos (Marky Mark!!!). But I think the two bodies on this cover are models, and SI just ‘Shopped Mark and Christian’s heads in. Because if they actually posed for it, it would be tragic on many different levels.

Meanwhile, both Christian and Mark (and the film, and Amy Adams, and the director) got Golden Globe nominations this morning. Good for them – except for David O. Russell, who is supposed to be one of the biggest bastards in the industry. Seriously, Russell allegedly makes Michael Bay look like a fluffy bunny. Anyway, Mark spoke to USA Today this morning right after the nominations came out:

“I’m just so excited. We just wanted to make this movie, we didn’t think anyone would see it, never mind have all this stuff happen. For everyone to be recognized for their hard work and commitment to portraying these people, who I’ve become close to, it’s thrilling.”

That’s Mark Wahlberg talking to USA TODAY’s Maria Puente.

He said one of his first calls was to Micky Ward, whom he plays in The Fighter, a true story about a pair of brothers and their effort to win a welterweight championship. “He’s thrilled. I told him to make sure his mother and family know about it.”

Wahlberg was at home in L.A. with his family when his agent called at 5 a.m. with the news, which woke up his 11-month-old baby. “It was the best possible wake-up call.”

[From USA Today]

LMAO, he actually said “Tell your motha.” Andy Samberg is probably having a good day. Good for Mark – I know many of you think he’s a douche, but I like the man he’s becoming, and I think he’s making some really smart decisions for his career. I have a lot of respect for him in a professional sense.

bale’s facial hair doesn’t suit his face at all and accentuates the crookedness of his nose too. weird.

  2. Solveig says:

LOL, this is one of the worst magazine covers I’ve ever seen.
I would be happy for the nominations of The Fighter, but these awards are such a joke that if I were them (MW, CB, the director) I’d probably feel like someone was kidding me.
Oh, I don’t think Mark W. is a douche, actually to my great surprise he has done some damn good performances (Boogie Nights, The Departed) and he seems a nice guy.

  3. BigT says:

Really? Marky Mark is a terrible actor and he STILL seems like a douche. I’ll sat hi to ur muther for him.

  4. belle Epoch says:

    Totally agree with PhotoShopping.

Not even sure the Bale Body was there at all. Look at the “thigh” for the body’s right leg – it’s about six inches long! Body Parts is more like it.

  5. skibunny says:

Love Mark Wahlberg! So underrated. I think he’s one of the best actors out there and he’s willing to take risks which I respect.

  6. heathen says:

Meh. He’s a douche. The only film he was half-way decent in was The Departed, and I really think the part wasn’t a “stretch” for him. Plus, working with other great actors and a great director made him look better. However, he sucks so bad usually that everyone was shocked he was ok in that part & gave him more credit than the performance deserved.

  7. Jb says:

Kaiser- did you see his 60 Minutes interview? It was really good.

  8. Bailey says:

Bale looks like a cardboard cut out propped in back of Mark.

  9. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I like Mark, its been interesting to watch him grow as an actor.

  10. Rio says:

I don’t even think those are models with ‘shopped heads.
I’m pretty sure those are random body parts dug up from the mortuary and strung together with papier-mache, twine and bubblegum.

I’m indifferent to Mark Walhberg. I’m too young to remember the “Marky Mark” phase, and he’s skeezed me out since I learned he gouged a guy’s eye out with a meathook. Kinda ruins the sexy.

  11. Stephie says:

I like Mark, always have. Don’t like Bale. Not really liking this cover either.

  12. KelBear says:

I liked Wahlburg in The Perfect Storm, but that’s about it.

  13. elusive says:

It doesnt look like Mark’s body. No 3rd Nipple. Bale looks weird too.

  14. carrie says:

it looks alike a Mad Magazine parody cover with Bale in Alfred Neumann

it’s the photoshop award of the day

  15. Roma says:

I like Mark and always had, but I have heard a serious boys behaving badly story about him… though it was drugs, and not women.

  16. Camille says:

That is a damn god awful cover. *shudder*

  17. dre says:

Love MW and his brother too – his brother has a new cops TV show that is excellent – I think they are both great!

I wish we could get people on this site that didnt just sit aroudn day after day bashing others from boredome in their life.

  18. Stubbylove says:

I love how Christian Bale is smiling all the time now – hopelessly trying to create the facade that he’s not an arrogant, egomanic douche.

  19. Bunny says:

Bale is trying hard not to seem like a douche. I read the ny times interview and he sounded so jerky. Mark seems down to earth, and has a sense of humor, which Bale could use.

  20. Someone Else says:

“Mark seems down to earth, and has a sense of humor, which Bale could use.”

That, and a serious course of Lithium.

  21. Danny says:

For some reason Christian Bale looks like he’s going to a Civil War reenactment later. He needs to get his hair cut. Damn hippy!

  22. Oi says:

woah….hope someone got fired for that!

  23. Jeri says:

He has been making some good movies. Not selling his soul either (Justin T) or calling in sick to go to events.

  24. Bitter fruit says:

    That’s some hilarious photoshopping 😆

  25. Angela says:

Well, I like the idea for the cover although the execution is a bit awkward.

  26. Strawberry says:

@Danny: No he obviously late for the Pirates of the Convention tribute show he’s starring in.

What’s with him casual-styles on the red carpet? He looks like a hobo who stole someone’s Under Armour jacket and just wandered into the photographer’s frame, lol

  27. Louise says:

    This photograph looks bizarre.

  28. devilgirl says:

I am a Wahlberg fan. Actually, I think both the brothers are good actors.

  29. tooey says:

Bale’s head in this shot looks like something from a Jib Jab video, awful! I’m still excited to see the movie.

  30. Kiska says:

Whomever did that cover needs to be fired. Terrible work. My 6 year old nephew could do better

  31. original kate says:

that may be the worst cover ever. terrible photoshop, bad lighting, cluttered and unfocused… yikes.

  32. Tom Smith says:

    I like both actors.
    I like all their movies.
I think they are both good -looking men, whether it is in their underwear or after losing 80 pounds for a role.
I wish them both luck during the awards season and in all their future pursuits.
I hope all the rude people here have the opportunity to have sexual contact while incarcerated in a maximum security prison.

  33. Chris says:

@Carrie. Good call on the Mad Magazine. I totally see it. 🙂

Wahlberg is a solid actor but only a conventional one. He’s never really played a part that’s required him to completely transform his personality and the way he expresses himself.

  34. Kath says:

Remember when these two were actually hot? Marky Mark was never my cup of tea, but Bale was crushable.

  35. DetRiotgirl says:

I think they’re both douches, personally.

  36. Hautie says:

Are Mark’s legs really that thick? I don’t ever recall him looking like he weighed enough to have thighs/calfs like that.

And I love thick thighs/calfs on men! So now I must go hunt down the trailer to see if his legs are really this big.

  37. Rio says:

“I hope all the rude people here have the opportunity to have sexual contact while incarcerated in a maximum security prison.”

Thank you! That’s the problem with maximum security, it’s a real damper on your social life what with the 23-hours-in-your-cell bit. I’m so happy to know that people like yourself encourage relationships during any situation.
    Thanks for the day-brightener!

  38. Cindy says:

Mark does look like this after 4-1/2 years of training for this movie about being a boxer…duh. What would you expect him to look like?? I think he’s hot now and always has been. Lot of douche bags on here imo.

  39. jc126 says:

Not Photoshopped – check the cover and insert.
The Fighter was a FANTASTIC movie, btw.
