George Clooney returns from Sudan, will testify before Senate about ethnic cleansing

As I was watching the first ten minutes of The Today Show this morning, I was unprepared for the clip of Ann Curry’s interview with George Clooney. I mean, Clooney is just talking about his latest trip to Sudan, and it’s all very serious, but first thing in the morning, all I could think was “Damn, Clooney looks HOT.” Like, you should watch the video because it‘s interesting, but you should also watch it because of the hotness. I’m not all about Clooney’s attractiveness, you know. My mother is – she’s a major Clooney fan-girl. But I never get all hot and bothered for him… until right now. It’s the scruff, right? His hair is grown out, he looks disheveled and it’s hot. And he’s talking about important issues, and he doesn’t sound like an idiot. Which adds to the hotness.

Apparently, Clooney flew to Sudan shortly after the Oscars, which is the same thing he did in 2006, after he won his Oscar. He talks about the people he met, the ethnic cleansing in the villages, and President Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir, who has been indicted for war crimes. Clooney is in Washington today (these photos are from Washington) to testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about his trip to Sudan; afterward, and then he’s going to meet with Secretary Hillary Clinton and President Obama in the Oval Office. Do you think he’ll shave?

Now this is the Cloonster I love.
My favorite story is when he went to an African village and went to the hut of the elder woman there to get a blessing she spit all over him! Can you imagine 🙂

  2. ladybert62 says:

    His “beard” looks crappy.

  3. normades says:

Will Stacey come and wear a power suit?

    • Ravensdaughter says:

Go George! Back off the Oscar bs campaign and back on to saving lives by participating in critical efforts (via the best possible channels) to shut down the perpetrators of these dreadful crimes.
I worked on the WCT (located at the Hague) very early on, so I could yammer for awhile, but I will spare all of us. Here’s hoping these (expletive deleted) end up there to face charges.
Btw, it all started with the collapse of Yugoslavia and all the horror that occurred after.

  4. madpoe says:

sorry but the dry cleaning photos are funny with this story.

  5. Amy says:

I love this Clooney. Putting himself in danger to help others. Meanwhile his self-serving GF is tweeting at 1:00 a.m. about her photo shoot and being all snuggling in bed (probably George’s) with “the poochie” (probably George’s) and wishing everyone “sweet dreams.” How can someone like him even be around someone like her?

  6. Jenny says:

Big George !!! Without Stacy alongside and most beatiful!!!!

  7. Rux says:

I have always found to be very attractive man a la Cary Grant/Gregory Peck — my mom loved these guys. I think he is a good actor and intelligent especially being a Humanitarian HOWEVER the fact that he is against ethnic cleansing seems rather funny to me as what does he know about ethinicity when all of his girlfriends are carbon copies of the one before; Stacy is a brunette let us not forget that. Gives me something good for once; date outside the 20 to 29 year old box.

  8. cody says:

He is hot when the Oscar Barbie and Italian Queen aren’t hanging on him and he is doing his thing.

  9. Jayna says:

I love him and he is a great humanitarian. Rock on, George.

  10. taylor says:

ITA with everyone: this version of Clooney is so much more attractive than the Oscar-runner with interchangeable girls version.

  11. Rose says:

I am Sudanese-American. the country of sudan has already split into two to satisfy all the darfur hype over oil, and i am pretty sure that there is/was ethnic cleansing happening in indonesia, botswana, india, and israel that nobody is worrying their little actor head about.

    • Jill says:

The genocide committed in Darfur by Ali Bashir’s troops is a documented fact, whether or not you want to hear about it.

      • Rose says:

i lived in sudan for 5 years, i AM sudanese, and i don’t need anyone to tell me what is documented or not. i am allowed to state my distaste for what i see to be george clooney’s pretentious latching onto one of the countries i call home.

    • Jaded says:

That’s a spiteful comment – of course there is ethnic cleansing going on all over the world, but it’s a person’s choice to represent a certain country, and I think it serves that country better than if they were running all over the planet trying to stamp out a multitude of problems. It’s also an admirable and useful thing for a celebrity to use their drawing power to highlight these atrocities and work to influence government to find solutions. George Clooney is a very smart and compassionate man, not some “little actor head”.

    • S says:

I see where youre coming from im arab american too so we see the whole picture. wow I find this hilarious, its obvious why sudan & then he just admits it like an naive idiot, He said it himself at the end of the day its about the oil period only for the economic interest. Silly man at least have the curtsy to just leave it unsaid like you actually care about the people. The middle east is a mess thousands have been killed recently, poor old syria isnt getting that kind of attention because guess what ? they dont have any oil.

      • S says:

I could not have said it any better pretentious latching describes this perfectly. The situation is devastating & these people need protection but this man is in it for the wrong reasons.
@ Leikyn : Great idea they should consider that.

    • Justice says:

Rose – Take off your rose tinted glasses. Ethinc cleansing of Africans by Arabs has been going on for centuries.

      • Rose says:

        @justice. very ironic name.

thank you for telling me about my own history. where would i be without you justice -_-

  12. Abigail says:

George: Stacy, I’ll be gone a week or so trying to eliminate ethnic cleansing.

Stacy: But, George, I think a good cleansing is important for everyone. I’m on a constant cleanse. Don’t you read my tweets?

George: Not that kind of cleansing, Stacy. Now, go put that cheerleader outfit back on and shake your pom-poms for me before I leave.

I finally saw The Decendants last night and now, after having seen all the Oscar best actor nominees’ films, (and while I still think Oldman performance deserved the award) I think that Clooney deserved the Oscar over Dujardin.
I was surprised by what a great, nuanced performance Clooney gave.

    ‘Duck, runs and hides’

    • Marjalane says:

You don’t have to duck and run from me- I totally agree. I was all side eyed at George for his paid escort ways, but I really thought he was good in The Decendants. Nuanced is a good way to describe his acting in it. I loved that he was willing to wear the old “dad pants Dockers”, and be kind of frumpish.

  14. Jaded says:

@ Rose, then why aren’t you living there and trying to do something about it? You are biting the hand that is trying to feed you. Do you also find the Red Cross, The Hague, The International Criminal Court, the U.N. and countless other medical and relief organizations that are trying to help distasteful? Your comments make no sense whatsoever of a horrific crime against humanity.

    • Rose says:

i did live there in the summer with some of my family there. i worked with one of the NGOs that was not kicked out of the country. i am currently working on a masters in public health specifically because i feel so strongly about this cause. So no, i am not against medical and relief organizations. I am just annoyed with this particular celebrity. i don’t know when it became such a crime to state my feelings?

      • elvyn says:

        I agree with you.
People who doesn’t the African continent and its countries with their problems who are all older than what we see today, don’t really understand.
They just see a celebrity in the front and don’t try to look beyond that.
Also, why didn’t they listen to a sudanese person? Did they really need an actor to talk about that?
        Bullshit and nonsense.

      • elvyn says:

  15. Maguita says:

Ditto! That is EXACTLY how you cleanse from a borderline catastrophic and somewhat megalomaniac Oscar-whoring season. Especially after you tried selling us a woman YOU hardly knew!

This is the George I prefer. The one who is honest about his passions, and it shows. He’s eloquent, to the point, and really knows how to get you compassionate yet knowledgeable about his causes.

I’d rather hear this every day, rather than how rough a wrestler can tackle him… Well, depends on the wrestler… Maybe George on George (St-Pierre)??? That, I would watch!

  16. Leikyn says:

Here’s a novel idea. Get the families of the victims to testify instead of Hollywood. Thank you.

    • Bobo says:

I agree ,he should have activists who live there, come with him and let Washington know first hand what is going on. He can afford to pay for a few flight tickets.

  17. Guest says:

When he isn’t pretending on the red carpet with Oscar Barbie and saying goofy things in magazine interviews for the Oscar campaign I actually can take him seriously as a person.

  18. birdy says:

What the gf took away from it all:

    Stacy Keibler‏ twitter
People shouldn’t be forced to live in caves. RT & support the fight against senseless attacks in Sudan’s Nuba mountains http://ow.ly/9EPTY

Forget murder, rape and starvation – people shouldn’t have to live in a cave. Fuck she is dumb. Clooney, trade up to the next one.

    • Guest1 says:

Stacy is a real piece of work. She probably is very self-absorbed. It is hard to believe that they are really dating. I can’t even imagine what these two talk about when they are hanging out together.

  19. yoyo says:

That Clooney gives a platform to victims fine, where are they? All I see is an overpaid twat who thinks he still does not have enough money so he still does commercials. So now he wants to put on his big boy pants and “testify” like someone cares about the oil the US is missing out on?

Yeah I can’t stand when these celebrities make it about themselves. I do not think that him or Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt or Di Caprio or any of these celebrities who have adopted a cause as a hobby change anything, ever. They only think it redeems their obnoxious paychecks.

  20. Zoe says:

I’ve volunteered for organizations involved with helping war-torn parts of Africa. Clooney has volunteered in the same circles and has a great reputation with volunteers & aid-workers (Don Chedale being another). Clooney is the real deal when it comes Sudan/Darfur. He has put more work into it than most know. He’s a brave man calling out China & the President. Most will call out easy targets: war lords, militants, gorillas, religious/terrorists factions etc…but don’t have the guts to call out the real underlying problem.

  21. Loralei says:

There are people with phds in Sudanese political studies and culture. There are people much more intelligent than George Clooney who would better fit the bill for what he is doing. He is just grandstanding. His acting sucks also.

  22. Aqua says:

George knows that this cause is an uphill battle.I for one do admire his grit, determination and perseverance in trying to keep such atrocities in the spotlight in the hope of a diplomatic intervention.

Yes. I agree with you he does look HOT in this video!
