Rachel Weisz: “There’s nothing worse than somebody who complains”

I know this could be the least commented-on post of the day, but you guys are always telling me I should avoid covering Kim Kardashian at any cost, and I was faced with the decision: cover new photos of Kim K. or cover Rachel Weisz’s two magazine covers and interviews. Don’t complain, is what I’m saying. Rachel has a supporting part in the new Jason Bourne movie, the one with Jeremy Renner taking over the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy. Incidentally, there’s a new trailer for The Bourne Legacy… here you go:

Part of me is disappointed that Rachel took the part of “the girl/damsel in distress” in a big action film – she’s an Oscar winner, for God’s sake. But the other part of me wants Jeremy Renner to rescue me. So… it’s a toss up. I love the Bourne franchise, though, so I know I’ll see this.

Anyway, some highlights from Rachel’s interviews in C Magazine and Vogue UK:

She doesn’t know how to cook: “It’s something I want to do. I’d love to be able to get in the kitchen and throw in spices, but I need to know some basics. I was just at the fishmonger down the road and there were these langoustines and he said you have to chop off the head and the claws and sauté them with garlic. He was French. He said he might give me a lesson?”

She hates complainers: “There’s nothing worse than somebody who complains.”

She likes taking on a challenge she might not accomplish: ‘I want to always feel like it’s a stretch and that I’m not quite sure I can pull it off… And I think that is truly the right reaction … I used to get really affected by my work, but when you have a kid, you have to come home and be there mentally.’

Separating reality from film: ‘When the director says “cut,” it’s all make-believe, and strangely enough, that took me a little bit of time to work out,’ she said.

Living in New York City: ‘Everyone moans about the city changing and becoming gentrified, but I think the East Village still has a little edge and also has a community,’ she said.

On The Bourne Legacy: ‘Jason Bourne is in the periphery of the story, but it’s about a new military program and I am thrown together with Jeremy Renner‘s character by circumstance, because, well, we need each other… The paranoia around the film is as paranoid as the film itself – I think they feed off each other. We had to literally run through the homes of these warm, kind people with all their washing on the line turned inside out because of the dust. We were literally on the run. We didn’t stop and talk to them in the film, so it was kind of weird… The tone is very realistic. I’m not playing a superhero, I don’t have superpowers. I don’t even have a gun. That’s really what I love about it, that as this type of film goes it’s not implausible at all.”

[Via The Mail & The Belfast Telegraph]

“It’s not implausible at all…” The word she’s looking for is “It’s plausible.” I mean, I make grammatical and syntax mistakes all the time, but for goodness sake. It’s not implausible? IT’S PLAUSIBLE.

Also – I didn’t know Rachel was still living in NYC after her split from Darren Aronofsky. I thought she have moved back to England to be with Daniel Craig forever and ever. Maybe they split their time between London and Manhattan.

“There’s nothing worse than somebody who complains”

    You mean, like your husband?

Still…gorgeous woman — though I think she’s lost some weight.

P.S.: am really angry because I can’t find her movie “The Deep Blue Sea” (with Loki Hiddleston) anywhere here where I live. Damn it!

  2. Lola says:

    Love her

    • A Girl Named Mikki says:

      +1!! Always have…

    • dahlianoir says:

      ” I’m a librarian !”

I’m in love with her since her drunk speech in that mummy movie.

    • Liv says:

      +3

I really like her. She seems nice and down-to-earth. And amazing how they managed to marry and be together secretly.

  3. really says:

If I were that gorgeous and successful, then I wouldn’t complain either.

  4. NM6804 says:

Isn’t she married to f-ing complainer numero uno: Daniel f-ing Craig? He’s always so f-ing surly and cussing all the time (which people seem to think is f-ing endearing ;)), that’s his whole goddamn image.

  5. Naomi says:

    Gosh she is ridiculously pretty

    • Leigh says:

      Right?! Just stunning.

    • Carolyn says:

She’s so gorgeous she even makes awful jumpers look good. A jumper on the cover of Vogue – what the heck??

Kaiser go the next step and make this an Aniston-free site too. No to the Kartrashians and Aniston.

  6. Bings says:

    Kaiser,

I think ‘not implausible’ is the same as ‘it’s plausible.’ The sentence is positive. Like in Math, in grammar two negatives together make a positive sentence. Right, grammarians?

    • Naye in VA says:

I thought it seemed correct. Although, I’m not an English major.

    • muffin says:

right. what she meant is that it’s “not [impossible to believe]” or “not [unbelievable].”

    • Loulou says:

She meant something to the effect it’s not completely implausible. No error there. She’s merely emphasizing, though using the negative form to make her point.

    • starsh says:

Its English as in how UK people speak. Its not implausible is Not the same thing as Its Plausible. Its throwing a little doubt on it being plausible. 🙂 There’s an expression in there, like, its…not Implausible… (she probably didnt mean it to sound this way.)

      • MacScore says:

totally right. She’s English, so she’s using a somewhat subtle way of saying “it’s not completely beyond the bounds of plausibility”. Yup, sounds mad, but we Brits would always prefer three or four clauses when one will do.
And, er, CB, ” I thought she have moved back to England…” – might want to hire a proof-reader?

Love Rachel. Gorgeous woman, intelligent choices (including Daniel).

      • MargDejohn says:

It’s also how Americans speak. 🙂

She’s anticipating the interviewer or the reader thinking “this is implausible,” which is why she put the emphasis on “implausible.” Her grammar is perfectly correct.

    • Mikey says:

      Implausible = not plausible/not possible

Not implausible is a double negative so it becomes a POSITIVE – meaning it is plausible or possible.

      She said is correctly 🙂

    • the cassinator says:

It funny because you also make a mistake right under the uncomplaint about “not implausible”

“I thought she have moved back”

      (trying to be cute)

  7. Lindy says:

I loved her in The Constant Gardener, and want to love her in everything, but the homewrecking stuff is a big turn-off.

    • the original bellaluna says:

Oh, she was so lovely in The Constant Gardner! And Ralph Fiennes? It was like another sweeping movie-fest, a la The English Patient! 😀

  8. Anne says:

    Oh Rachel, Rachel.

Maybe you’ve never had much to complain about.

    Count your blessings.

    • mercy says:

      Point well taken.

I’ll also note people who gripe about gentrification are often those who have lived in an area for a very long time and are being priced out as it changes.

      • Anne says:

Well those moaners just don’t like progress.

      • Dena says:

Progress for whom? Those who are being pushed out or those who are moving in and “gentrifying” the neighborhood?

Everything depends on where you are seated a the table.

  9. laura says:

    a double negative is a literary tool….litotes!

  10. Soff says:

She better never meet Kristen Stewart, the number one complainer.

    • Cate says:

Oh please, her husband complains way more than kristen and he has much less to complain about. Last i checked rachel w did have bat shit crazy fans like kristens boyfirend does. One of his fans was kicked out of a premiere for treatening her and this fans friends on twitter were encouraging her violence. Crazy.

  11. NYC_girl says:

Damn, she is so stunningly beautiful I can’t bear to look at her.

  12. Mina says:

I was going to make a comment on how Daniel Craig is a huge whiny baby, so I’m glad other people beat me to it.

  13. spinner says:

She definitely has one of the most gorgeous faces in Hollywood. Plus, she looks very healthy & not Botoxed to the hilt. Love her.

  14. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Rachel looks a lot like Norah Jones and Thank you thank you thank you for not putting Kim K’s face on here today 🙂 Rachel is more interesting.

  15. Pixiegirl says:

Uh, is she complaining about complainers?

  16. Sunny says:

I am commenting on this story just to say I appreciate that you’re avoiding the Kardashians. I don’t comment a lot, but I like reading about people like Rachel.

    Thank you!

  17. Rachel says:

Her eyebrows are killer! Also, I wanted to support a non-Kardashian post!

  18. Nanz says:

I really, really like her. Glad you chose her over KK.

  19. Maya says:

She is so unbelievably gorgeous. That Vogue cover is just stunning.

  20. Raven says:

She hates complainers??? She must have read that last thread on Dutchess Kate. Those comments make any made by her husband seem like rays of sunshine.

  21. Jess says:

I wanna hear why life begins at forty! I’m about to turn 39 and feel like I may have goofed up too much – that it’s too late to get happy. So I can use all of the encouragement I can get!

    • Krill says:

Oh Jess… it’s never too late. Never. I’ve made so many mistakes in my life, but you’ve just got to keep going on and making a few less than you did before. And stay positive.

    • ZenB!tch says:

Me too… except I still think I’m 25 and still f8ck things up royally.

  22. mercy says:

Cheers for no Kardashians or any other reality “stars,” but if the site is to live up to the bitchy part of its name I can’t think of anyone more deserving than Kim and her ilk.

I enjoy Rachel’s work and she looks great, if a bit thin.

  23. Kiki says:

Love her. She’s so beautiful and a great actress. I’ll watch anything with her in it. May I say I loved how much her wedding band appears in these photos?

  24. Chellez says:

Implausible is a word. And she used it correctly.

Maybe Kaiser was thinking of that MTV girl… “IT WASN’T NOT FUNNY!!!” lmao every time ^_^

  25. lucy2 says:

    So pretty.
Yeah, her hubby is a bit of a whiner, but probably not to her. If she’s talking about people who do nothing BUT complain, I’m on board with that.
The “not implausible” made sense to me too.

Somehow her saying “fishmonger” seems totally naturally, but when Goop tries it, it sounds ridiculous.

  26. Kayla says:

There is a lot of irony in complaining about complainers.

  27. Emily says:

Down with the Kat Face Klan!!!! 😀

  28. Nanea says:

I’d rather have 5 posts with Rachel, even if there’s no reason for it, than ½ post about any of the Kartrashians.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a complaint though, merely a statement.

And I 7th or 8th that comment about DC being a professional complainer, and that maybe she should have a word or two about that with the guy she’s married to.

  29. Mew says:

She complains that nothing is worse than people who complain. Oh my! Then don’t complain, Rachel hun!

  30. Nan209 says:

Thank for not putting one more eye on Kim K.

  31. Kristen says:

She’s probably one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood right now. Why did they do that to her face in the last photo? It’s like they gave her someone else’s features.

  32. The Original Denise says:

She is just so lovely! I really like her and DC as a couple, they are attractive and age appropriate. Simply stunning woman; for me she is in the same category as Jennifer Connelly who I also love.

  33. Justyna says:

I don’t write comments very often (not native speaker, I’m always afraid of making stupid mistakes), but I’m a regular CB reader and I’m really glad you chose Rachel over Kardashian. I would applaude you if you chose to post about some [even] recycled photos without interview or any kind of relevant story of anyone more talented than her (so it should be, “anyone. period.”).

    • mayamae says:

      Justyna –

Don’t hesitate to post for fear of using imperfect grammar. There are some here who will call you out in a bitchy way but ignore them.

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Don’t let grammar stop you from posting – it is interesting to read different posts and the same kind of grammar can get boring anyways – and this is a good way to practice.

  34. A says:

I love Rachel, but that is terribly ironic considering who her husband is. Also, to be honest I dislike it when I hear people (celebs in public, not blogs :)) complaining about complainers. Sorry, it just comes off self-righteous and judgey to me…a bit, I’m so humble and better than those other celebs. Not kidding, I would rather hear Rooney Mara whine then someone whining about how Rooney Mara’s whining is annoying in a magazine that the public reads. Other than that, I find Rachel beautiful and talented.

  35. Shelly says:

She’d hate me then, because I complain a lot. 😉

  36. Isa says:

Showing my support! Thank you for not posting about the kardashians!
She is really pretty. And I don’t think I could ever chop off a fish head.

  37. Shaz says:

mmmmm…can’t wait to see JerRen in this…I love his face, his bod, his voice and his acting

  38. Embee says:

I get the feeling she was asked what bugs her most about her fame and she responded “Nobody likes a complainer”. I could be wrong, but it’s my hunch. That, or she’s getting sick of her husband’s crabby attitude.

  39. allons-y alonso says:

le sigh…..Rachel Weisz. My girl crush forever.

  40. Camille (The original) says:

I don’t care at all for the man she married, but I think Rachel is so beautiful and talented. I’d take Rachel over that bitchy cold fish Charlize Theron any day.

More Rachel Weisz posts please CB! 🙂

  41. Nessa says:

I’m gonna comment because then maybe you’ll give RW some more love! YES <- emphatically, a Rachel post is sooooooo much better than a Kardashian post. What were you thinking?!

  42. Heather says:

I love that she can look completely sexy with all her clothes on. Young starlets, take note!

  43. ZenB!tch says:

She’s gorgeous but I hate the collared blouse.

I have to complain or else I’m not being a bitch.

I really don’t know much about her husband. He’s a butter(his) face so I don’t pay much attention unless he takes off his shirt. Unlike her he is not sexy with his clothes on.

  44. phoenix says:

In their joint divorce statement, she and Darren Aronofsky stated that they would remain in New York to raise their offspring together. I thought it was a particularly interesting statement because they mentioned New York in it.

    • the original bellaluna says:

I think it’s particularly interesting because they never got married, did they?

  45. LittleDeadGirl says:

I so want to see the new Bourne movie and now even more so that she’s in it. She’s my lesbian crush. Her and Renner will be so hot together.

  46. Belle says:

Love, love, love Rachel… beautiful and talented. Agree with those who dislike when celebs complain about ‘others’ who complain though. It does make her sound self-righteous and snooty.

On a side note… I am a huge fan of the Bourne movies, and I mean HUGE! (Did I mention HUGE??) (; For this reason, I’ll be passing on The Bourne Legacy (at least until it comes to cable or netflix). For me, Matt Damon = Bourne. No Matt Damon, no Bourne. I love the cast in this movie too… but, making a Bourne movie without Matt Damon is like making chocolate chip cookies without chocolate chips! Sure, the cookies will probably still taste okay, but they sure as hell won’t be chocolate chip cookies! It doesn’t matter how many times the movie shamelessly ‘references’ Jason Bourne, it isn’t going to make this a Bourne movie!

    *impromptu rant over*

  47. lu says:

Supporting non-kardashian post. I wish people would stop commenting on them – they always say the same thing.

Rachel is lovely and there’s nothing wrong with saying “not implausible”.

  48. UniqJaz says:

    I like her eyebrows.
she is complaining when she says she doesn’t like complainers.

  49. Feebee says:

Co-sign on her being pretty amazing and the it’s not implausible thing as perfectly correct speech.

She’s not the first celeb to say they don’t like complainers but what do they mean. No-one not even Gandhi or Mother Teresa (okay I’m guessing) went/goes through life with no complaints. If she means those who complain several times a day then say that. And if that’s what she means how the hell is she enjoying living in NYC?

  50. Sugar says:

I can’t complain about Rachel but & it’s a big but I can’t help but complain about Kim & all the fakery from her body to her marriage to her talent (what talent) to her new demure persona…oh god Rachel I’m sorry I can’t help myself don’t hold it against me I’m not complaining I’m just saying;)…

  51. stellalovejoydiver says:

She looks like the Helena Christensen Helena Christensen would love to look like.

  52. Fan says:

She can’t move to England. She has joined custody for her son. I don’t think Darren would take it well if she would move.

And sorry, her husband doesn’t complain…he’s swearing LOL and he always speaks his mind. I haven’t heard him complaining yet.

  53. Snowflake says:

” life begins at 40?” either she’s not 40 or they’ve done a great job w the airbrushing. i’m 36 and i have slight crow’s feet and uneven skin tone. there’s not one hint of crow’s feet in any of her pictures. i wish sometimes they would just publish pictures w/o all the da*n airbrushing. it makes people think they should be flawless and wrinkle-free like the edited pictures they see in magazines. can we try some truth in advertising for once?

  54. Because Rachel has nothing to complain about? I that why she hates complainers? Oh yeah – I forgot. She doesn’t know how to read a cookbook.

  55. Ravensdaughter says:

Isn’t what she said a complaint in itself? Also, ditto with the fact that Daniel Craig rants about everything-a very in-your-face form of complaining. But she married him in a fit of mad love, so she’s stuck with him!

  56. NeoCleo says:

Everyone complains, it’s human nature. What a stupid comment by someone who seems to be trying to be superior by being a judgmental a-hole.
