Angelina Jolie literally has a (chicken) pox on her house, she’ll be MIA for a week

FFN_Jolie_Angelina_THUMBS_120914_51604188

Seriously though, Angelina Jolie is having the worst week ever. What hasn’t gone wrong for her? Unbroken was shut out of the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. The Globes didn’t even throw her a pity-nomination for Maleficent. And Angelina is all over (in a bad way) the emails hacked from Sony. She found out that her moviemaking partner Scott Rudin thinks she a “minimally talented spoiled brat” with a “rampaging spoiled ego.” And now this… Angelina is going to be MIA for the next week (probably longer) and completely absent from Unbroken’s American PR push because… Angelina has chicken pox.

Think of it this way… after ten long years, Jennifer Aniston’s voodoo dolls are finally paying off. There is literally a POX on the Jolie-Pitt house. And in case you’re wondering how an American adult of 39 years could have gone through life without getting chicken pox… first of all, it can happen. Lots of people get the pox when they’re adults. Second of all, some people DO get it a second time. It’s not unheard of. My guess is that all of the Jolie-Pitt kids have it. Maybe Brad will get it too.

Maybe this is some good news? Angelina probably gave the pox to Amy Pascal on Wednesday night, just after Angelina found out about the leaked emails calling her a spoiled brat. This photo made the rounds yesterday (I linked to it in several posts, but here’s a tweet-embed):

This has been called the “death stare.” I’m not sure if I would go that far, but it’s definitely not a happy look from Jolie. But she’s allowing Pascal to supplicate. That’s the first step.

I’m kind of hoping that Angelina goes dark for a few weeks, recovering from her pox and plotting her next move. Angelina hasn’t had to recover from such high-profile disrespect in a while, so she might be rusty. But she will plot her next move and I’m hoping it will be amazing.

Meanwhile, here’s the full video of THR’s “directors’ roundtable.” Angelina Jolie with Christopher Nolan, Mike Leigh, Richard Linklater, Bennett Miller and Morten Tyldum,

I feel bad for her, chicken pox in adulthood can be horrendous. It’s far better to have it as a child.

    • Jenns says:

I got the chicken pox at age 30. Luckily, it wasn’t that bad. They have anti-viral medicines now that can help ease the symptoms.

      • Have no lipservice please! says:

And those very nice anti-viral medicines make one TIRED TIRED TIRED.

      • Birdix says:

You have to take them early though. I had it as an adult and the doctor didn’t recognize it at first so didn’t get the meds until a few days in. My roommate got it from me, took the meds right away and had a much milder case. I was really sick for a week, but weaker for a good six months. My dad got it (not from me!) in his 60s and was really really sick.

      • just saying says:

I had chicken pox when i was 33 so its not unheard of people getting in adult years, all i hope is she fully recovers as it does take a toll on you. Get well soon Angie.

      • Kiddo says:

This tots freaks me out. Never had chicken pox as a kid. I guess I should get the vaccine?

      • Jag says:

Please do your research on the vaccine, Kiddo. In some cases, it has made people have severe shingles later in life, and believe me, you’d rather have chicken pox than shingles!

Get the package insert of the one you want to use and research every ingredient to see if you want it in your body. Also look to see if it has been found effective, too, in peer reviewed studies. (For instance, HPV vaccines admit that they don’t prevent cervical cancer on their inserts, from what I’ve seen. So why would a person get it if it doesn’t prevent what they’re wanting to prevent?)

Be aware that if you do get the chicken pox vaccine, you can shed the virus for a solid week, if not more. Stay away from pregnant women lest you kill their babies, and also stay away from seniors, people with reduced immune systems, and children.

      • cr says:

Jag, there’s no current evidence that the vaccine causes shingles. However, if you’ve as chicken pox, the virus can reactivate as shingles, which has happened to my sister.

MONDAY, Dec. 2, 2013 (HealthDay News) — The prevalence of a painful condition known as shingles is increasing in the United States, but new research says the chickenpox vaccine isn’t to blame.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, the varicella zoster virus. Researchers have theorized that widespread chickenpox vaccination since the 1990s might have given shingles an unintended boost. But that theory didn’t pan out in a study of nearly 3 million older adults.

      • Eleonor says:

I’ve had chicken pox in february. And I am 33.
I’ve lost something like 11lbs in ten days. I couldn’t eat NOTHING. But what is worst is the convalescence, which is LONG and disgusting. And I’ve lost other lbs too.

      • jane16 says:

Kiddo, my son had the chicken pox vaccines (you have to get it twice) when he was almost 16, and he had a bad red swelling and little jerking seizures after the first one, and then a few months later, the doctor and nurse badgered me into giving him the second one, and I was afraid of him getting the disease as an adult, so I said ok to the second one, and that nite he had a massive grand mal seizure and has been on meds ever since. He also had to wait over a year to get his drivers license. I still berate myself on making that decision. The chicken pox vaccine has terrible side effects for a lot of people, seizures being one of the most common.

I had shingles several years ago, and yes, it was horrible, felt like my nerve endings were being stabbed with a red hot ice pick, but I went on one of those anti viral drugs and I was up and around in about 10 days.

      • G. says:

I got it twice as a baby. I’ll probably get shingles one of these days. Not looking forward to it.

      • Belle Epoch says:

JANE16 that is a terrible story. Please stop beating yourself up. You did what you thought was best for your son, based on the expert medical advice you got. My daughter had a bad reaction (not as bad as your son’s) to the MMR shot. The highly respected pediatrician in town said he would give her half a shot, twice as many times. I ended up changing doctors (for other reasons) and the new one said that was ridiculous. How are we supposed to know these things? I hope your son is OK. Maybe he had a genetic predisposition to seizures anyway?

      • Have no lipservice please! says:

Chicken pox can make men infertile. I got chicken pox when I was an adult and yes, I wish I had gotten the vaccine.

      • Janet says:

I never heard of chicken pox making men infertile. Are you sure you don’t have that mixed up with mumps? If boys catch mumps during puberty or young adulthood it can cause infertility but I don’t think chicken pox does that.

      • Lauraq says:

Jag-Gardisil doesn’t prevent cervical cancer per se, but it can prevent HPV which is a big cause of cervical cancer. My mom didn’t get it for me (I’m 27) because she thought it would encourage me to have sex. Well, I only had sex with 3 people, but #2 cheated on me and gave me HPV a couple years ago. My mom regretted not getting me the vaccine this spring when I had to get some aggressive cells LEEPed off of my cervix earlier this spring.

    • Enui says:

That’s exactly what I was going to say. I had them as a young adult, and it was a miserable experience. Hopefully it is chicken pox and not shingles. That would be even worse.

      • Janet says:

Since she has chicken pox she is now at risk for shingles later in life. My aunt got shingles when she was over 80. Neat rows of hundreds of red bumps all up and down her legs. Did I mention it was painful? Each single bump felt like she was being stuck with a red-hot needle. I wouldn’t wish this disease on my worst enemy. She was in hell for weeks. When I saw what she was going through I went to the doctor and got a shingles shot. The shingles vaccine is pretty effective; either you will not get shingles at all or you will get a much milder case than if you didn’t have the shot. It only takes one shot and there are no side effects. My doctor strongly recommends it for everyone over 50 who has a history of chicken pox.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree, Janet, shingles is nothing to fool around with. My doctor doesn’t recommend the vaccine until 60, and I’ve never known anyone under 60 who got it, but I might just start early.

      • Enui says:

Yeah, from what I understand, shingles travels along the nerve. My mom’s version went down her leg, a friend’s wrapped around one side of her torso, and one of the manager’s at work had it on her face! It’s only one point of data, but the boss is mid-50s and got it.

I’m a dozen years off from the shingles vaccine, but I fully plan to get it.

      • Nayru says:

I’ve known several people who got shingles in their early 20s. One person has some permanent loss of sensation. I have also considered the vaccine.

      • Lady D says:

My little brother had shingles when he was 7. I remember my mom crying in hysterics one night. They were talking about him dying. The shingles covered his whole back and wrapped around his chest. He was sick for what seemed like forever, at my age.
Is the Bell’s palsy virus the same as the shingles and chicken pox virus? I’ve had Bell’s palsy but not the other 2.

    • Ripley says:

I feel badly for her as she seems about to cry near the end of the video. This whole film has seemed a labor of love for her and it must be heartbreaking for her. Normally I don’t feel one way or the other about Angelina, but I do feel awful for her for this.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I feel bad for her, too.

      • MrsBPitt says:

I feel bad for her, too…I really do believe that directing Unbroken was a labor of love for Angelina…I’m sure she hoped that the film would be nominated for some awards. And, I’m sure, she feels like crap because of the chicken pox. I am always weepy when I don’t feel good.

      • Level5reject says:

My sister-in-law got shingles at 33…no joke. It was horrible 🙁

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I cry easily when I’m sick, too, MrsBPitt. It can be embarrassing.

      • Miss M says:

She was really holding the tears. I hope she recovers soon!

I had mumps as an young adult and it was not fun. I can only imagine how It is to have chicken pox as an adult.

      • jj says:

Crying near the end……..she is an acTOR, a pretty average one at that! She’s paid to cry! And even though Malificient had a good story, she was atrocious! I call BS on the varicella! And to JAG, re the HPV vaccine, none of the vaccines have 100% efficacy! And it probably won’t be another 10 years until they know what Gardasil etc., has done to prevent cervical cancers, but are you going to let your child miss out because you don’t think its any good?

      • FLORC says:

        jj
You can call BS on Jag’s claims all you like. It doesn’t make them false.
Theres too strong of a bias in your comment to take it seriously. It’s anything to trash Jolie at the cost of the facts.
You should really educate yourself on vacs.
And it seems you’re saying Jolie doesn’t cry unless she’s collecting a check. Being an actor doesn’t mean when you show emotion it’s not sincere. Personal opinin is blinding you.

      • Skeptic in the room says:

I’m not surprised that people here are asking no questions over this very conviniently timed illness. Anybody else would have atleast been scrutinised for this but not Angie. This woman is not above PR games, in fact she is a true master of what works and what doesnt. More power to her for being a smart conniving pr goddess but she does not fool me.

Lets see, there was the “spoiled brat” incident and the awards snubs, all in one week. There was already little interest beyond her fanbase for this movie in spite of the saturation. But now with the publics suspicions that she is a fake all but confirmed, things were looking pretty scary on the self-promotion tour.

So what to do, what to do??? Cook up some sympathy. Get an extra publicity boost in the process.

How in Gods earth does a woman who travels to so many far flung places in the world not vaccinate against chicken pox? Especially when she is a mother of 6 young kids. Bitch please!

And the opening lines of that video. *Somber voice…..”I just want to be honest about why I wont be attending”. Defensive much? Anybody who starts a conversation with “let me be honest”, gets a raised eyebrow from me.

      • cr says:

@Skeptic in the room: “I’m not surprised that people here are asking no questions over this very conviniently timed illness.”
When you write something like that it helps to have read the comments before doing so, since it was mentioned rather quickly.
You don’t have to like her, but getting all conspiracy theory as you have is more than a bit much.

      • Belle Epoch says:

I actually read this whole thread (!) and I’m amazed by how suspicious, cynical, even hateful, some people are about this video. I thought it seemed genuine and remarkably adult – no drama, very straightforward. I’m not aware of AJ being a liar – I’ve always thought the things she shared were authentic. I can’t imagine she would miss the premier just to get sympathy – that idea is a little nutty after how hard she worked on it. I actually think our whole culture has become mistrustful and snarky because of all the lies we have been told by our politicians, and all the PR manipulation by our celebrities. I know AJ does PR, but I don’t lump her with the liars.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Skeptic in the Room, who wrote: “Lets see, there was the “spoiled brat” incident and the awards snubs, all in one week. There was already little interest beyond her fan base for this movie in spite of the saturation.”

Really? Are you talking about the same “Unbroken” film recently named 1 of the top 11 films of 2014 by the American Film Institute? Are you talking about the same “Unbroken” film with a current 96 percent ‘Want to see it’ rate at “Rotten Tomatoes?” http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/unbroken_2014/?search=Unbroken

@Skeptic in the Room, who wrote: “But now with the publics suspicions that she is a fake all but confirmed, things were looking pretty scary on the self-promotion tour.”

By the “publics suspicions” don’t you really mean ‘Female First?’

      • FLORC says:

        Skeptic
Yes, it is possible to travel and have children without having had Chicken Pox. It’s entirely possible and happens more than you’d think. I’d state facts, but have a feeling id be dismissed for not agreeing and instead shooting holes in your argument.

    • joy says:

They can be dangerous for adults. I know a woman that lost an eye after getting them later in life.

  2. It is what it is says:

To be fair, her acting isn’t really all that great…

    • Maya says:

Well I disagree and all the awards she has for acting – the awards people also disagree.

      • Korra says:

Yeah I’m over an award indicating a person’s level of talent. They’re bs campaigns. If they awarded talent then we wouldn’t be rooting for Julianne Moore to take it this year. It’s obvious bs. Sorry, there are a number of stars that are ridiculously famous who have these awards and are mediocre actors.

      • BatWoman says:

        @Korra + 10000

      • Bella bella says:

@Korra, I wish people would remember Patricia Arquette’s performance in Boyhood. I thought she was so good.

      • V4Real says:

Wow that video. The best acting Jolie has done in years. LOL,

That was a joke people. But like someone else said how does a world traveler with 6 kids get Chicken Pox. As they say “not necessarily a thought but things that makes you go hmmm.

      • Dani says:

V4Real, quite easily. Especially since she travels widely and has 6 kids, thus having greater exposure to it. She in fact, is at greater risk than us civilians due to the increased exposure. Also, if she had it before, she’d still have it because the virus stays in you, regardless if you vaccinate. A person can have a flare up any time.

      • aang says:

@korra, I agree. Gwyneth also has an Oscar.

    • bcgirl says:

      @It is what it is
have to agree, no other choice I’m afraid.
and by the way am I the only one who isn’t buying this chicken pox thing for a minute?

      • Jenni says:

It’s PR stunt in my opinion. She tries to save her face. She will be MIA. No big showdown on the red carpet between Jennifer and Angelina.

      • suziekew says:

Good gracious, it appears she already has blisters on her neck and forehead! Have some feelings.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Jenni, who wrote: “It’s PR stunt in my opinion. She tries to save her face. She will be MIA. No big showdown on the red carpet between Jennifer and Angelina.”

Why in the world would Jennifer Aniston be on the Red Carpet at the “Unbroken” premiere?? Angie and Brad weren’t going to attend the Golden Globes without nominations, and they didn’t get any for the Globes, so when did you suppose Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie were going to ‘meet’ on a Red Carpet?

And they’ve already ‘met’ at a Red Carpet event. Don’t you remember the 2009 Oscars when Angie was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for “Changeling” and Brad was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for “Benjamin Button” and Jennifer was only there as a presenter? They came face to face–on live television, no less–and the Moon didn’t drop from the sky. Get over it, already.

      • jane16 says:

@ Jenni, if she didn’t make the video, and show that she has chicken pox, you and others would be saying she was making it up to get out of going to her premiere. I think thats why she did the video, not because she needs any PR! She is probably the most famous woman in the world, she can get PR any day of the week. Poor woman, she is having an horrendous week, I feel so bad for her. Get well soon Angie!

      • Alice says:

I’ll admit to having a hard time buying into it as well. She once said in an interview that she’s already had it, this was when Pax (I think) came down with it. And yes, I realize that some people never build an immunity to it, as I have a friend who has had it several times. And each time she’s contracted it, the symptoms are much more severe than the previous time, there’s nothing “mild” about it. Apparently, this is typical in the rare instances where people don’t ever build an immunity to it, said friend is an MD, so I suppose she knows what she’s talking about.

If Jolie falls into the “no immunity” category, she’d have also come down with it when Pax had it. It’s not a matter of “immunity wearing off” when you’ve already had it, as can be the case with vaccines.

      • Janet says:

You are misinformed, Alice. There is no hard and fast rule that determines when or if anyone will catch chickenpox. Many people have been escape it in childhood after multiple exposures, but come down with it sometime during adulthood. And as several people have said on this thread from personal experience, you can get it more than once.

      • CJ says:

Wouldn’t a widely traveled UN Ambassador, that travels to MANY 3rd world countries, and also travels to every country on her own time, or through premiers… HAVE to be fully vaccinated?

Wouldn’t that be the first and foremost in any sort for security and important detail for anyone in that position? Much less Jolie?

      • solanaceae (Nighty) says:

To 3rd world countries, one gets (usually) vaccines against cholera, tubercolosis, yellow fever, and other tropical diseases, chicken pox is not a tropical disease…

      • Alice says:

@janet: you’ll note that I mentioned my friend who has had it several (3) times, so I’m not sure why you’re pointing out what I myself said. Perhaps you didn’t read the whole comment, just the first bit?

Adult bouts of chickenpox are not “mild”. In fact, they can be life-threatening and leave lesions in the lungs, amongst other places. Perhaps you’d like to take note of the comments made here by people who contracted chickenpox as an adult.

As I said, I’m having a hard time buying this for the above reasons. I’m leaving aside the “doth protest too much” aspect of putting out a video to explain oneself which is, let’s face it, defensive and completely out of character for Jolie.

    • BatWoman says:

      +1

  3. The Other Katherine says:

With all those kids around, I’m guessing she’s gotten it a second time — that happened to both me and my sister. Doctors used to swear up and down that it was impossible, but now it is a sufficiently well-documented phenomenon that they’ve had to acknowledge it DOES happen. Apparently you’re more likely to be susceptible to a second infection if it’s happened to a first-degree family member of yours. It seems like these second infections are usually mild (I think I had about 5 blisters total when I had it the second time as an adult), so hopefully Angie doesn’t feel too bad and can use it as an excuse to stay home and rest up while still contagious.

    • MichBB says:

Yep I’ve had it twice. Mine was opposite. I had a mild case the first time as a child and the second time both my brother and I got it REALLY bad when we were in our teens.

      • Esmom says:

I had the same experience. And that second time when I was 15 was agony. Not just itching but tons of aches and pain. Poor AJ, I gotta believe she’s in for a rough go.

    • C'est la Vie says:

Shouldn’t her children be vaccinated for it? Just wondering…

      • DrMrsTheMonarch says:

Don’t they live in France? I am not sure that the French vaccinate for chickenpox yet. Japan had it for years before the US got it. The UK only suggests it for health care workers at risk. I think most of Europe either doesn’t or only for at-risk patients.

      • Janet says:

They probably have been, but they could still get it anyway. The vaccine gives some protection but not total.

It’s completely unpredictable who will get it and when. My son was exposed to chicken pox four times between kindergarten and sixth grade and he never got it.

      • Ennie says:

Even with vaccines one can get it. A friend of mine, a student doctor back a few years ago got the measles as an adult, and it got very bad. She even had problems in her eyes.

      • Sixer says:

Yup. It’s not part of the vaccination program in the UK – on the basis that it’s a relatively mild childhood disease and that a vaccination program could increase cases of adult disease, which is much more serious, and also increase the numbers of shingles cases. You only get it if you’re in an at-risk group: for example, I was vaccinated (even though I’d already had it once) when I had chemo.

      • Jadzia says:

They probably aren’t in the French healthcare system. But if they are, then no, the vaccine is not common here. I have 2 kids who were vaccinated (because they were a bit older when we moved here), and 2 younger ones who weren’t, and who did indeed get The Pox. Oddly, I keep testing as immune even though I’ve never had it myself.

      • cyndi says:

And that has been proven to not be true. It does NOT increase the chance for shingles later in life! France is behind the curve on this.

      • jane16 says:

Some people have a natural born immunity to it. My Mother never got it, even though all 5 of her kids got it in early childhood and she was also around her grandkids when they had it.

      • FLORC says:

It’s really better we get it as children. Not as adults and not vacs.

      • jane16 says:

        I agree with you FLORC.

      • Chris2 says:

Sixer yeah that’s what I thought. Myself, I had chickenpox around 8 yrs of age and recall my entire class had it too, I think it was generally thought best to catch it and get it over with. Certainly no vaccines. (Measles was much more serious, caught that very young indeed. Awful)
        • Poor Angelina….she’s suffering the fate of Kate Cambridge in a way. She must be feeling bloody awful, what a ghastly week. Get well soon, lovely!

    • Lucinda says:

Sadly I don’t think she has a mild case. It looked like she had blisters all over her skin. Having them as an adult really does suck.

    • Amberica says:

Got it three times in elementary school. Baffled doctors 25 years ago.

      • k says:

my eldest son did, too. each time they told me the previous diagnosis must have been wrong. lol.
i had shingles last year. pure evil. i have never in my life had to deal with a pain like that…nothing would touch it…and i tried every sort of pain relief under the sun…

  4. Janet says:

She’ll be lucky if it’s just for a week. Typically chicken pox in adults is mild for a day or two and then it hits you like a sledgehammer. My husband caught it when he was 20 and was sick as a dog for weeks. Let’s hope she has a very mild case.

Universal announced on their FB page that Brad and the kids will attend the premiere in LA on Monday in lieu of Angie.

  5. MoeC23 says:

Well, at least it’s not shingles..?

    • RobN says:

She’s saving that for the next time somebody says something really mean about her and she needs to change the narrative.

      • Bill Hicks is God says:

        Nice one 🙂

      • Janet says:

Considering your comment below, I’m surprised you didn’t say she was saving Ebola for next time.

      • Maya says:

Considering how people have said a lot worse to Angelina and she has always risen above that – she doesn’t need to lie.

But do check out your idol who always lies about everything in her life from wedding to having children.

      • Jessica says:

Celebs have people that love them and people that hate them but I just can’t believe how ridiculous this comment is. Unbroken is her baby, so I doubt she would lie about the chicken pox to miss it’s premiere. Why would she even need to lie? I hope she feels better.

      • RobN says:

Hey Maya, why must somebody who questions the beatification of AJ necessarily be an Aniston crazy? Lots of us have no dog in that imaginary fight, couldn’t care less who has children and who does not, who wins what award and who does not, but recognize a PR move when we see one.

      • Tanguerita says:

Thanks RobN. Celebitchy seems to have become a refuge for rabid Brandalunatics, they would tear to shreds anyone who dares to say anything against their idol.

      • Jenny says:

When you say things like Brandalunatics don’t you expect to get a little pushback from people who come on here to actually make and read sane comments? Jeez.
I don’t know if its just me, but I really can never take the comments that go too far one way or the other seriously. Don’t post ridiculous comments; if you don’t want people to label you as a hater or a stan, don’t sound like a hater or a stan…m’kay?

      • FLORC says:

Everyone get out your Team Jolie and Team Ansiton T-shirts!
Clearly it seems you can’t like 1 without hating the other.
        Good grief!
        RobN
We do see PR moves. Jolie brings out her kids and Aniston have a PR team.
That said this appears fully legit. That the mind goes for the kill when 1 shows weakness is poor quality.
        Tang
Careful. Your bias is showing. Shouldn’t some reason and logic be allowed in?

    • Meg says:

Give her some time. Awards season is long.

  6. mia girl says:

OMG the woman in the background of the Jolie/Pascal photo is EPIC!

She is totally not having any of it! She’s all like…
“Back it up and dump it somewhere else Pascal. Angie don’t want none of your garbage”.

Someone HAS to create a meme with this lady’s picture

  7. Janet says:

As soon as I heard about this a visual went through my head and I couldn’t stop laughing. I was picturing Jennifer Aniston sitting in the corner of a darkened room, laughing maniacally as she sticks pins in an Angelina doll.

That photo of Angie and Pascal is hilarious. Pascal is practically on her knees and Angie has this “bitch, get out of my face” expression but she also looks like she’s thinking okay, I may forgive you but you’re going to have to do some serious groveling first. She was totally playing it for the cameras.

  8. Jane Q. Doe says:

Poor Angie. I hope she blasts back in a major gift-for-humanity way, like some massive donation to a charity, or a UN trip, etc. I’m surprised of the lack of love for “Unbroken” though, it seems like the kind of movie they’d love.

  9. Toot says:

I feel bad for Angelina. This has been a terrible week.

Two people she probably thought were cool with her reveal their true feelings. Rudin feels the way he does about her and her acting, but why did he even agree to have her star in his movie? Then after he talked all that crap in a February email, he turns around in May asking her which Directors she likes. Just two-faced.

    • Artemis says:

Pascal was the one who also offered a Bond role to Jolie or something and pitched her as the lead in Salt and now she tried to lobby J-law for the role of Cleopatra knowing full well Jolie is after it for years now. Goes to show that you can’t trust nobody.

      • Janet says:

Honestly I hope they never do another remake of that movie. Taylor and Burton were enough. And Jolie is way too old now to play the lead. Even Taylor was too old and she was only in her early 30s.

      • Toot says:

Exactly. I see why Angelina limits who she considers a friend.

      • Artemis says:

They should just let it go. There’s no reason for anybody to want to breathe life into this mess. I know Jolie has a penchant for picking ‘bad’ movies but that asshole Rudin was correct, it’s a vanity project with no (decent) script or director, it’ll do her no favours and she doesn’t need it anyway. It’s a waste of money, who needs MORE blockbusters anyway? Let it goooo 🙂

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Janet, who wrote: “And Jolie is way too old now to play the lead. Even Taylor was too old and she was only in her early 30s.”

I don’t get people saying this. Cleopatra was 38-years-old when she died. Angelina Jolie is 39. How is that too old?

Who should play Cleopatra? I guess it depends on what part of Cleo’s life they want to depict. If it’s her younger life–Cleopatra was 18-years-old when their father died and left her and her brother co-rulers of Egypt–then I think Jennifer Lawrence would be a good choice. But if it’s the later years of Cleo’s life–after marriage, children, and her affair with Caesar but just before her live-in relationship with Mark Antony–then I really do think Angie is a good choice.

      • moot says:

@Janet FYI the movie is an adaptation of the biography by Stacy Schiff that came out several years ago, and not a remake of the Burton-Taylor monstrosity.

      • Janet says:

Moot, I read Schiff’s book and thought it was dreadful. A lot of speculative nonsense based on absolutely nothing. The truth is, we simply do not know enough about Cleopatra for anyone to do a reliable bio of her.

    • Amy says:

Yeah. I know people don’t like to hear celebs complain but as someone who really likes no drama this is the type of stuff that I can understand driving them up the wall.

Especially when you’re a little older and think you’re surrounded by mature adults. I think all execs just have ideas in their heads and reality doesn’t really matter.

      • Loo loo says:

        Winning comment!

Although I would imagine some actors desperately try to avoid immature behavior from a less principled disposition.

There are sensitive people, and even if their egos dictate winner, they get ravaged inside at the behest of other people’s petty aggression.

The execs, however, are stone cold. And probably rely upon the excitement.

I would soon rather be a janitor than involved in that insidious industry.

And that’s coming from an actor temperament,

    • ann says:

I work with all women. They say horrible things about each other on a daily basis. Then they guilt everyone into buying birthday, wedding, and baby shower gifts for someone they we’re just talking smack about. Being two faced must just be part of the work force.

      • Loo loo says:

Ugh. Maybe most of us just don’t complete puberty and are just held hostage by our bodies until we are too sick to mentally imprison ourselves anymore.

As a whole people seem to have more of a male id with a female ego.

Domineering and insecure people petrified of being embittered by personal restrictions.

  10. Kori says:

At least AFI rewarded it. And that Pascal photo is hilarious. But poor Angie with the chicken pox. I never had them either and them was eosed when I was pregnant. Luckily nothing happened but after my son was born I went and got vaccinated. Good thing since a few years later my 2 oldest both went down with it. And is it shallow that I thought she was still gorgeous even spotty and without being made up? 🙂 But I feel for her having to miss the big US premiere–that actually would have been a high note in the week. I’m gladBrad and the kids are waving the flag for her.

  11. saxamaphone357 says:

I thought it was standard for children today to get the chicken pox vaccine? Much like when we were kids and got the measles/mumps/rubella shot, my stepdaughter (who is now 10) got a chicken pox vaccine when she was little. I would have thought that Angie’s kids had gotten that too, I thought all kids got the shot now. I suppose they could still get it even with the vaccine though. I am now curious which one of them (or how many of them) got it and if they did in fact have the vaccine. Feel better Angie!

    • Tippy says:

If kids attend school or daycare and haven’t already had Chicken Pox they need to be vaccinated against it.

Most parents used to deliberately expose their children to Chicken Pox at an early age an as such the vaccine wasn’t necessary.

      • Janet says:

Mine did that. I got it in kindergarten along with my whole class.

      • Mean Hannah says:

When I was growing up, many parents deliberately exposed their kids to chicken pox, with the understanding that it’s better to get it as a child and be immunized. The only people kept away from chicken pox were adults who never had it as a child. I was surprised to find that there’s chicken pox vaccine now. My 3 year old has all the recommended vaccines, but chicken pox wasn’t one of them. I’ll have to read up on it again.

      • maeliz says:

When I was a kid we all got chicken pox or knew we would when 1 person nearby did. Wasn’t fun but it’s nothing compared to shingles

      • Esmom says:

Yes, chicken pox parties! I’ve heard of them but never knew anyone who did that. Now with the vaccine I haven’t heard of a single case in my circles in the 15 years I’ve had kids.

    • Susan says:

Chickenpox vaccine has been included in the MMR vaccine since 2005 in the US. So the younger kids are probably vaccinated unless they weren’t vaccinated per US standards.

  12. Greek Chic says:

Even with chicken pox she’s so pretty!

    • Mean Hannah says:

She is! Looking at the video on my sh*tty phone with the sound off, I didn’t realize she had it at first.

      • Greek Chic says:

She has these amazing features that even with chicken pox/pimples and i don’t know what else her beauty doesen’t go away. I wish i looked that good on her worst day!

  13. Chinoiserie says:

Angelina and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week.

    • outstandingworldcitizen says:

^^^^This! 😉 I’m happy about the hack. As someone else mentioned on the thread, this is why she keeps her circle of friends small. Denzel Washington said the same thing. No Hollywood friends.

    • Loo loo says:

I hope James Haven isn’t at the bottom of a well!!

  14. kibbles says:

Ironic that the worst week for Angelina Jolie in recent memory turns out to be the best week ever for Jennifer Aniston.

I got the pox in middle school less than a week after getting the pox vaccine. Turns out a classmate also had the pox and I probably contracted it before getting the vaccine. It was really horrible and I still have a very small keloid scar as a reminder of it. I really hope I don’t get it a second time because it was torture.

    • outstandingworldcitizen says:

How so? Wasn’t she snubbed. I guess you mean JA does not have to AJ at all these upcoming events.

  15. yummy says:

When ARE people going to grow up and stop making Jennifer/Jolie comparisons!!?? One woman’s success or failure really has nothing to do with the other. Aniston sticking pins in Jolie made for a cheap chuckle but why bother after TEN LONG YEARS!!! Let us wish both these women well.

    • Amy says:

      This.

But I think the enjoyment of ‘rivalries’ never dies for some people. Love triangles and all that annoy me more than anything these days.

      • yummy says:

When too lazy to come up with a fresh and creative new angle always reach for the tired triangle. The gossips and commenters have been doing it for ten loooooooooooong years.

Hope it is a mild case of chicken pox and Jolie soon recovers. If it is fake, as some believe, she is playing chicken and avoiding some awkward questions about recent events. But why not? I might do the same. I am sure she will bounce back. Sometimes an insult is a great motivator, don’t you think?

    • someone says:

While Jennifer and Angelina probably don’t themselves consider it a rivalry, I think people ascribe that to their situation because that is how they would feel if it were them. I know plenty of people in real life who love to see their ex fail or get pissed off when their ex succeeds. It’s the good old schadenfreude thing.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

      Thank you, Yummy.

It is so annoying when one assumes that any one who dares to critcize St. Angie is automatically an Aniston fanatic.

They make the same assumptions about LeAnn haters, and believe me there are tons of us. They insist just because we all hate LeAnn, we have to be Brandi Glanville fanatics. It’s so ridiculous. Can’t someone not be a fan of someone without having to be the others “team?”

    • Loo loo says:

Betty, Veronica, and Archie were too thick to give us any humanity to feed off.

What you water blooms, they try so hard to water themselves to bloom,

And are all, or at least have been, emotional wrecks inside since the inception of that love triangle began.

  16. someone says:

I don’t think the Jolie-Pitt kids have the chicken pox. In the video that Universal and Angelina put out saying she had chicken pox and would miss the premier she also stated Brad would be bringing the kids to the premier in her place. That doesn’t sound like a house full of kids with chicken pox. I think she got it somewhere else. And in the video with her pox marks showing and no makeup she looks so young and pretty. I could only wish to look that good on my best days nonetheless when I had chicken pox.

  17. Amy says:

It’s weird (and a little gross) to me how people are acting like a grave injustice has been committed on the world.

She’s (seemingly) a very nice and conscientious woman. She’s had a very long string of success in her acting and personal life. She hits on snag of bad luck and the cult of Jolie are acting like she’s a general who now has to reform his army. Bizarre.

I think, though I believe the man’s words were way too aggressive and outlandish it’s because I just haven’t seen that performance that makes me believe the hype. She seems like a mediocre actress with a very loyal following…and no this has nothing to do with Aniston.

From dipping my toe into past threads I’ve seen that’s a common and fun charge to level at any and everyone.

I just think its a good time to rest up and not come back trying too hard, if she’s been happy with her performances and work before and she keeps getting bankroll then she should keep with it. Any other ‘move’ would seem desperate.

  18. Lili says:

She is pretty even with chicken pox. And well I am totally a fan and I think great things are still to come for her. Wait and see

    • Lauren says:

Angie has a gorgeous face, but looks beyond exhausted.
Her hair appears to be receding, and Angie is frail. Where is Brad? Why is she alone so much?

When Brad promotes his blockbuster movies, Angie is right by his side, full of praise and love. Something is wrong, and it isn’t Angie’s outbreak of chicken pox.

      • Loo loo says:

She needs to go on anti anxiety pills, paleo diet, and get exercise and sun without tanning.

Anniston needs to do peyote in The desert, have vampire sex once, stop hanging out with Hollywood friends, and do more quality and less quantity , stop tanning, and start doing crunchie hippie health things. Put seaweed on her face and go picking for berries in California.

Brad Pitt needs to go marry some 20 year old child loving nurse. And Angie needs be accepting baronness about it and hang out with them at amusement parks with her French nihilist boyfriend lover

      • Sea Dragon says:

I wouldn’t have noticed the hairline but for your mention of it. I can’t believe how bad it is. I feel for her because she’s truly stunning in my eyes. She’d be just as gorgeous bald but I’m sure that’s not what she’s aiming for, especially if she plans on continuing her acting career. Do you know or does anyone else know if it grows back at any point?

  19. melissa says:

That means she was contagious when she was forced to make nice with those Sony people. She unintentionally got her revenge on them.

  20. tracking says:

She actually released a video about this–a statement wouldn’t suffice? Did Universal make her do this? One of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen.

    • Sullivan says:

If this is one of the weirdest things you’ve ever see then you lead a very sheltered life.

    • C'est la Vie says:

Yeah, those thoughts crossed my mind too.

And what’s with the tank top? I don’t actually want to see the chicken pox.

    • loislane says:

Would’ve been even less believable without an actual visual of her skin.

    • Tippy says:

The video seems like overkill but they all probably felt it would be best to squash any potential rumours about her absence before they get started.

    • Esmom says:

I assumed it was so people could actually see the chicken pox spots, circumvent any cries of BS.

  21. lower-case deb says:

that THR roundtable looks & sounds great. i particularly like Leigh’s discussion on creative license and accuracy.

sometimes these things can be really awkward, i remember watching the producers’s roundtable (also THR) and my goodness they really do look and sound like they don’t want to be in the room together.

anyhow, i really wish they invited Ava Duvernay onto the table. (it’d be great if Angelina’s there too, but if they only want one woman director, i think Ava deserves it more–nothing against Angelina personally.).

  22. Talie says:

Angelina better get her ass to a root doctor in Barbados once she can travel to reverse whatever Jennifer planted in the ground a decade ago. You in danger girl!!

  23. Bill Hicks is God says:

I hadn’t known that Jolie has such a contrived way of speaking. She sounds like she’s been taking elocution lessons from Madonna.

Of course we all had to see the spots, otherwise she might not be believed. They look like hives, actually. At her age she’d be covered head to toe and in bed with fever since the symptoms are much worse if one catches it as a adult. I’m not buying it.

    • Janet says:

She was just diagnosed. My husband had it as an adult. The first couple of days were so-so. Then all hell broke loose. He was desperately ill for two weeks.

      • Bill Hicks is God says:

I had it when I was 18. Onset was fast and furious. I don’t think I’ve ever been that sick in my life.

    • Kim1 says:

Every adult who gets chicken pox isn’t covered with spots the day after diagnosis. Maybe you were.
As for this week ,Angie’s mother died so this week is in no way the worst week of her life.
For those of you who don’t believe she has chicken pox ,that’s fine. There are people who don’t believe she gave birth to the twins. There are people who don’t believe she had the BRAC 1 gene that increases her chance of developing Cancer.
I look forward to see Brad and his parents supporting Angie’s film Monday.

      • Bill Hicks is God says:

Her mother died of cancer, Jolie says that she carries the gene predisposing her to breast and ovarian cancer, publicly makes a statement about not wanting to leave her kids without a mother – so what’s she SMOKING for?

It isn’t me that needs to bear in mind this week is the anniversary of her mother’s death.

But, because you know, cancer. I can’t believe people are trotting that out and she’s smoking. She plays her fans like fiddles making them look like fools in the process.

    • Maya says:

I didn’t know you had checked every single adult who has had the pox to firmly declare what an adult should and shouldn’t look like…

      • Bill Hicks is God says:

I haven’t. The also look like bedbug bites for that matter. People pick them up in hotels all the time. So there’s that.

    • Falkor says:

I’m thinking hives, too. It wouldn’t be a stretch and that’s exactly to a T what mine always look like when I get stressed out.

    • maddelina says:

      I’m not buying it either.

      • eva says:

        What a surprise

      • Maya says:

        What? You don’t believe it???

Now I wish I should have made that bet with Emma that you will one day become unpredictable.

      • Janet says:

If you said you did buy it, I’d look out of a west-facing window to see the sunrise.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Maya, who wrote: “What? You don’t believe it??? … Now I wish I should have made that bet with Emma that you will one day become unpredictable.”

        🙂 🙂 🙂

      • Bill Hicks is God says:

Didn’t her oldest get them when he was 3 or something and she said she was just fine because she’d had them before?

This is the problem with spinning stories, you have to make sure that you remember each and every one you’ve ever told.

    • melissa says:

I ‘ve had the chicken pox twice (once as a child and once as an adult… yes, it’s rare to get it more than once, but it does happen) and the shingles. All the blisters don’t come out at the same time.

    • So says:

She seems to have picked up a British accent?

  24. loislane says:

If Unbroken does great at the box office after all these blows, she will end up looKing even more powerful. It would mean nothing can stop her. Something tells me That is what is going to happen.

  25. Valerie says:

I’ve had them 3 times. Yes, 3. Once as a child, (bad) again when my daughter was young, (horrible), and again in my 40s (easier that time…relatively speaking). If AJ has chicken pox at the moment this pic was taken, she feels like total crap regardless of how she feels about Pascal and Scott Rudin. But she’s a big girl now, working in one of the most vicious industries on the planet. People have said far worse about her. She’ll find a way to get past it.

  26. BlueeJay says:

I think that the stress of the past week, combined with the fact that her nutrition is quite bad was just to much for her body and she was run down. Interesting though who she would have gotten them from? As to the premiere. How about the actors just coming and getting the attention. Crazy thought I know. This movie has been presented as a vehicle for the best picture and best director. Personally I think that the actors need a bit more attention. Without Jolie there it would happen. I don’t really think that the children need to be paraded before the pap and entertainment channels. I think that Jolie needs to trust her actors and let them carry the premiere.

  27. Izzy says:

Ugh. I had chicken pox when I was 17! My mom tried throughout my whole childhood to get me infected, I had playdates with every classmate of mine who had it. I feel for Angelina, it sucks no matter what. A solid week of spots and itching. Blah.

  28. Jayna says:

Aw, I feel so sorry this happened to her. She won’t be able to be at her own premiere for a movie she’s worked so hard on.

  29. Kori says:

Radar online has one of those body languages ‘experts’ on who says she’s lying. I can’t believe they are so worked up over this story!

  30. vauvert says:

Hope she rests and takes it easy and looks at it philosophically. Before 40 she has won pretty much every major acting award, directed two films with two more in the pipeline, has a beautiful family, is recognized for her humanitarian efforts. Yes it is a sucky week for her and maybe she was snubbed on nominations but hopefully she will have a long successful directing career in addition to acting and the awards will come.
What surprises me is that there are some commenters implying this a PR move (seriously, folks, she spent TWO years of her life on a project that meant a lot to her. Would she miss out on the premiere? Why, because an a**hole called her names in an email? Doubt it).
Others are just gleeful about her bad week. Do not get it. On one hand there is general agreement we need more women in positions of power, and here is one who is accomplished, respected by her peers (watch the directors video) and who puts her efforts into interesting projects in addition to all her humanitarian efforts. Shouldn’t we be cheering her on? Wishing her well? Hoping that a female directed movie us successful at the box office so more studios give women directors a chance? Some days I feel like women can be their own worst enemy….

    • So says:

Amma Asante & Ava Duvernay should be getting the kind of attention Angelina gets. Just because she is a beautiful movie star, doesn’t mean she should get all the awards. There are many other female directors that I support. Angelina needs to separate her personal life from her professional in a big way too.

      • Janet says:

So give them all the attention you want, but don’t blame Angie for getting the attention you feel should be theirs.

  31. Krystal says:

I can’t believe this woman can’t even get the damn chickenpox without people thinking it’s a PR move . Give me a break. I hope she feels better. I know she must be very disappointed she can’t attend the premiere, she worked so hard.

  32. Kim1 says:

Angie is not going to miss a premiere for the most important film in her career because of negative comments from Scott Rudin. She has been called vile names for ten years. Also I see Scott was discussing alternate directors with Angie three months AFTER he called her those names. So who is more powerful, the producer who has to work with a woman he THINKS is not talented or Angie. He was pissed because he couldn’t control her and didn’t have the BALLS to confront her.

  33. Jax says:

I can’t believe some people are saying she’s making this up to skip out of a public appearance because of those emails. Please. This is the same woman who had HORRIBLE things said about her AND her children for years after the Divorce. She certainly held her head high and made no comment about the Triangle That Never Ends.

So she is going to miss out on the American premier of a movie she has poured her heart and soul into because of a couple of jerks nasty comments? Which made THEM look much worse than her anyway, but she is supposed to be too afraid to face the public now?

    I DON’T THINK SO.

    • Brittney B says:

      SERIOUSLY.

If anything, I would think she’d *want* to be there now more than ever. Success and happiness have always been her greatest revenge, so it probably pains her to stay home instead of proving how little those comments actually matter to her. She knows how it looks to be absent right now; that’s why she released an actual video, in which her symptoms are clearly visible, instead of simply making a statement.

  34. Brittany says:

    How convenient for her.

    • moot says:

How is it convenient for a director to miss her USA premiere? This is not convenient at all.

      • Falkor says:

        The timing is pretty serendipitous.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Falkor, who write: “The timing is pretty serendipitous.”

How is it ‘serendipitous’ for a fairly new American Director to miss the American premiere of her first big Studio ($65 million is nothing to sneeze at) budget film?

  35. Lucky Charm says:

When my kids got the chicken pox, my mil had to stay away because she had never had them. Middle son had to miss the last week of school because of them, and was he upset he had to miss all the parties. It was the longest month of my life because instead of all four kids catching at the same time it was one after another. Are chicken pox vaccines routinely given to kids now, like mmr? I thought it was just an option if you chose to get it? I know a few people who chose to expose their kids to develop natural immunity rather then get a shot, but that was a few years ago.

Angelina will get through this Sony mess just fine, she’s weathered much worse storms before. And perhaps in that picture she’s trying to not get too close to Amy because she’s contagious? In order to go to the Dr. for a diagnosis she would have had noticed something she was suspicious of first. Hoping she has a speedy recovery and gets well soon.

    • Esmom says:

As far as I know, at least in my state, the vaccine is routine. It’s also required for school.

ITA that AJ has dealt with more than just this one week and can’t buy that she’s make this up.

      • I don’t understand how anyone could accuse ANY actor of making something like this up. Especially when you have a video showing that she’s covered in light spots/scabs already.

And it’s a HUGE risk to make something like this up to get out promoting her film–I’m sure Universal is on her, making sure that she goes and gets checked up, takes whatever she has to, so she can go and promote this film with all she’s got–as soon as possible. If she was making this up, that’d be a big violation of her contract with them, I would think, and she could be liable for a lot more than just being embarrassed that her film wasn’t nominated for anything.

  36. Jessica says:

Why would you send your husband and kids to a work event you can’t attend?

    • Kim1 says:

Her family was attending her premiere before she got sick.So why wouldn’t they go now. They are not doing a Q&A

      • Kate says:

Because they have nothing to do with the film? I don’t really get why you’d want the kids there anyway, and Brad’s already seen it obviously, so what’s the point if they aren’t there to be with her? Some directors never show up to premieres, they certainly don’t send family along in their place. The cast should be more than capable of going it alone.

      • I’m assuming they wanted to see the movie, as a family, at the LA premiere…except now she can’t go. She talked about specifically making the movie PG13 so her kids could see it.

      • Janet says:

Brad’s parents were with him and Angie at the premiere of “Benjamin Button”.

    • So says:

I think it’s better to keep things professional & not make everyrthing about the kids & husband.

  37. Megan says:

My husband had shingles at 26! Nothing to mess around with. He had then on his eyelid too :/

    • Anon says:

My son got the shingles at 26 also, after career move (new job, testing, classes, moving states away)….he was the one kid that had the worst case of chicken pox as a child. Each of my 3 kids went down with the pox every 10 days. Ugh.

  38. Jess says:

I feel for her, I had them as a kid and it’s miserable, and I have 4 scars on my forehead!

  39. Frosty says:

I hope she recovers well, and soon. Chickenpox in an adult is no joke, especially for men, so hopefully Brad’s either had it or been vaccinated.

  40. Frosty says:

    Hunh?

  41. gogo says:

    Hope she gets well soon.

  42. pam says:

I was 28 when I got Shingles. It was in the 80s, before the vaccine. I went through hell, the worst part being the nerve pain. I still have numbness in my neck and shoulder and scar tissue from the boils.

  43. Oooh, that must suck. I’ve never had chicken pox, and I’d never heard of adults getting it.

  44. Anon says:

Get well Angie, chicken pox is not good when someone is older. Hope Angie will rest as sometimes, I don’t think she knows the meaning of the word!

  45. Jag says:

I’m wondering if Pascal recently received a chicken pox vaccination or a shingles vaccination and actually gave the chicken pox to Angelina. She’d probably never admit it, though.

Quite the week for Jolie. Sheesh!

  46. nicegirl says:

Best wishes for a full and fast recovery!

  47. hmmm says:

SMH. Oh, the coincidence! I think she’s trying to save face. And being sick and announcing it on video? Places this special snowflake right back in the spotlight for a pity party.

But what really gets my knickers in a twist is her presence in the round table with seasoned, notable directors. Not only is she the token woman, but she’s also nowhere in the same league as the likes of Kathryn Bigelow, Agnieszka Holland, Penny Marshall, Mira Nair, Jane Campion, etc.

Waiting now for Brad to trot out the kiddies for a photo op.

    • Maya says:

wtf? Those women you mentioned don’t have any movies out nor are they promoting anything. Why should they be on this table of directors?

And secondly – you don’t have to put down Angelina to praise the others. These women will say exactly the same – the more women directors the merrier.

    • Janet says:

She was at that round table because she was invited. They wanted her there. They asked her to be there. If that twists your knickers up, you’d better stock up on knickers.

    • Ennie says:

Bigelow put Aj’s name in to receive her honorary oscar.

  48. BNA FAN says:

I’m a fan of Brad and Angelina and very proud to say so. I’m always at a loss why this triangle has lasted for 10 years. I remember over 10 years ago I was reading in the weekly magazines that there was problem in the Jennifer and Brad’s marriage. I remember Brad saying he was ready to start a family and he wanted all girls. I also remember Jennifer going on SNL doing a parody pretending to be a paparazzi yelling out, “Jen, when you going to have a baby”. She was taking having children for her husband as a joke. After the divorce Jennifer gave a interview to Vanity Fair saying she was going to start a family after Friends ends. But according to Leslie Bennett of VF she said Jennifer had about 3-4 movies set up after Friends. Now if she was getting ready to start a family why 3-4 movies in the pipeline after Friends on Jennifer’s plate ready to go. When Brad divorced Jennifer he was about 41 years old. How much longer did Jennifer believed her husband should wait to start his family.

IMO, Brad was done waiting for Jennifer to start a family. She knew he wanted a family/children and she was not ready, end of story. Brad left, found a woman and started a family. Now he has six children and a wife and people are still trying to make something out of nothing. There was no cheating. Brad told jennifer he had feelings for Angie according to Courtney Cox who said there was no cheating. Jennifer told Brad to go have an affair and get it out his system and come back. Brad told her no. He left and start his family and appears quite happy where he is and with his family. Let’s hope Jennifer is happy with the path she choose and
everyone is happy. Justin is over 40 yo with no children, Jennifer will be 46 yo in about 2 months without children, it would appears that Justin in the right person for Jennifer and Angelina is the right person for Brad.

Brad has been with Angie for 10 years now, longer than he has been with any woman in his life, it appears he found the right person for him. I’m wishing Brad and Angie a long and happy life. Get well soon Angie.

    • BlueeJay says:

Um…..what exactly does Jen have to do with Angie getting Chicken Pox? How about we stop pitting these two women against each other and let them be the strong women they are. And this news is about ten years old. No one cares anymore about this.

  49. misstee says:

Its Hives – hives hIVEes, HIVEs, HIVES!!!!!

    • Janet says:

Thank you for your two-cent diagnosis, doctor. Where did you say your medical degree was from>

      • misstee says:

Where is yours from Dear? ive had hives/welts on and off over 10 years and had adult chicken pox – im a darn sight more likely to be able to assess the footage than you are im sure….

and yes hives, Jane, can look different each time you get them there are many kinds of ways they display on the body ive had hives that look EXACTLY like this several times…

      • Janet says:

We can’t all be as beautiful as Angie, but failing that, evidently some people can take comfort in pretending that their hives look like her chicken pox. 😆

    • jane16 says:

I get hives when I have a bad allergic reaction. That doesn’t look anything like hives, it actually looks like…chicken pox!

    • FlowerintheAttic says:

      agreed.

  50. Amy says:

Ugh, the older you get chicken pox, the worse it is. I remember in middle school two girls who had somehow managed to not get it both got it at the same time and were out of school for about 2-3 weeks. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox–you aren’t going to get shingles thanks to a vaccine. You can only get shingles if you get chicken pox. The virus lies dormant in your system and for whatever reason will reawaken when you are an adult. I’m surprised Angelina managed to go so long without getting it! I’m guessing one of her kids has it if she does! I still have white scars from my chicken pox blisters randomly around my body.

  51. Laura says:

My heart goes out to Angina and her really tough week 🙁

I hope things turn around for her and that she feels better soon.

I love, love, LOVE Angie – always have, always will 🙂

  52. thinkinglady says:

    O.o

All I can do right now is stare at some of the comments on this thread. I usually enjoy celebitchy do much and very seldom feel the need to comment.

One really?! A grown woman who has faced many things positive and negative now feels the need to fake an illness all for PR?? I would be pissed if after everything that has happened this week I could not make the premier for a project I spent two years of my life working on.

Two, chicken pox bites. Literally feels like thousands of fire ants biting you. I think if she was going to play sick she would pick something less painful. I got the chicken pox when I was eleven, there was no place I didn’t have them including internally. In my mouth, throat, and in personal places no one wants to think about. I was eleven and for the first time I wanted to die. I hurt so bad and had a high fever for over a week, I had to sleep on the floor because it was the coolest spot in the house. I would never wish it on my worse enemy. And yes when I get old enough darn skippy I am getting the shingles vaccination.

Three the vaccination had less side effects then the chance of getting shingles. It has been proven if you have had chicken pox it lies dormant in your body and if your immunesyssystem gets weakened due to Ilillness or age it reactivates as shingles. As someone who has worked with people with shingles as a health care provider I have seen how bad it can get. Shingles follows along nerve lined and it particularly likes damaged nerves. One sweet lady had damaged nerves that caused blindness from a different child hood illness. Het shingles attacked those nerves and she was in misery, so much pain, and because it wad localized to her orbital and skull areas her hair fell out. It was awful and there was only so much that could be given for pain due to her age and condition. In my opinion there is no reason to not get the vaccine unless there is a medical reason not to.

Sorry this post is so long though I enjoy Angelina I am not a loon but something about some of the things said rubbed me wrong.

    • What says:

Well i think the problem is the video…if a statement would have been released that she is sick and has chicken pox and can’t attend..i would have believed it…and to be honest i think that most people would have..for exact the reasons that you jst gave…but the video! That’s the problem..there is something insincere about her in the video..and just the fact that she made a video at all..what other director would do this? I think that this is the reason why people believe it is a pr stunt. Even if she has chicken pox..releasing the video just is a pr stunt..and i think most people, like myself, don’t like to be fooled, manipulated etc.

  53. Anastasia says:

Oh I’m pretty sure she’s had worse weeks. I can think of two right off the top of my head: her mom dying, and the breast removal surgery after discovering she has the gene marker for breast cancer.

She’ll be fine. And I seriously doubt this has anything to do with Aniston, or that she even thinks about her. And vice versa. This connecting of the two women is beyond stale.

    • Brittney B says:

That’s what I keep thinking. She grieved so deeply after Marcheline died, and still gets emotional when she talks about it. She’s also seen REAL suffering, lifelong suffering, due to sexual trauma and war and starvation and disease. But if we’re going to talk about public humiliation and name-calling? Her own father called her an unfit parent on national TV and jeopardized her adoption process. Every time I hear about her “horrible week”, I think about those things and laugh. The opinions of a notoriously mean-spirited, egomaniacal executive hardly measure up to any of it.

      • lisa2 says:

        Exactly.. LOL..

and an Executive that didnt’ say squat to her face, but behind her back. Then in later emails didn’t convey those feelings. Funny if he thought all that one wonders why he wanted to work with her and not someone else.

I saw other emails that showed that while he was acting like a Brat.. Angie was busying getting an AMAZING team together for the film. Martin Scorsese, Daniel Day Lewis, and possibly Leo D..

Angie has had nasty shit said about her for years. ONE mans opinion is not going to cause her to run and hide.

so the people that think this need to head back to the drawing board for something else.

UNBROKEN is a film she has spent 2 years on. She and Brad and the kids were very close to Louis Zamperini’s family. So I don’t see how it is strange that they would be there to stand next to his family at this US premiere. Makes perfect sense to me.

  54. Nymeria says:

It’s painfully obvious this is a PR stunt. Here’s why:

    1. Onset of illness after a) snubbed by Golden Globes, and b) outed by producer as egotistical & a nightmare to deal with. Very, very convenient timing.
    2. She’s ill = SYMPATHY! Stop picking on her, you mean evil horrible Hollywood people!
    3. What is she “ill” with? Chicken Pox! The scourge of whom? Children! She must have gotten it from her children! Poor thing, she’s a mom and they’re picking on her! They’re picking on a hardworking, selfless mother!
    4. Who’s going to pick up the slack for her? Brad & the kids – we get to see how cute they are & be reminded of what she, supposedly, spends all her time doing – mothering!
4a. There is absolutely no need for “Brad and the kids” to appear at this premier – directors fail to show up to premiers frequently, & it’s no big deal – except as a reminder that ANGIE IS THE DIRECTOR! It’s a reverse “Look at me!” moment, except most people are too clueless to pick up on that.
4b. Instead of seeing Angie there & feeling sorry for her, even derisive, we’ll note her absence – made all the more prominent due to Brad & the kids’ being there – and remember, “Oh, yeah – she’s sick! With chicken pox! Poor thing!”
    5. Now the Golden Globe snub & the Evil E-mails of Doom recede to the background as a well of sympathy pours forth from the general public, because Angie is sick!!

The kids don’t have chicken pox, so where did she get it? Where do most people get it? Their kids! Except her kids are going to the premier, so they’re obviously not sick… Hmm, didn’t think this through, but most people won’t have thought that far anyway, so whatever. And a video? Really? Has she not heard of “The lady doth protest too much”?

    Yeah, harp on me. Whatever.

    • Janet says:

You’re reaching hard and failing badly. You can get chicken pox from anyone you come into contact with who has it, including another adult. There is no age limit on whoever can give it to you.

    • cibele says:

I’m feeling slightly guilty spending so much time reading the above and thinking how much time you spent thinking of and contemplating Angie’s pox. ….

      • Ennie says:

        hahaha cibele +1
Also, usually some people are contagious and they may not have visible rash or symptoms.
the illness just does not pop out of nothing there is an incubation period.
The children might have had it, if they did, they are probably over it by now.

“The varicella-zoster virus is transmitted through direct contact with the chickenpox blisters, by airborne droplets when coughing or sneezing, or through contact with infected items of clothing or bedding. Your risk of catching the virus increases if you have been in the same room as a person with chickenpox for 15 minutes or you were in close contact, for example, face to face, with an infected person. (hahaha to the Sony employee)

The incubation period is seven to 21 (usually 10 to 21) days after exposure to the herpes varicella-zoster virus to the development of the symptoms. The disease is most contagious a day or two before the rash appears (hahaha again) and until the rash is completely dry and scabbed over (about five to six days after onset of illness).” from boots site web med.

    • Dani says:

Its painfully obvious you don’t know anything about chicken pox. She made the video most likely for people like you who think it is bs. The video clip proves she really has it. Its also painfully obvious you are too invested in hating Angelina, and your post makes you look ridiculous.

      • aga says:

It says a lot about Angelina that she has to made this video because many people wouldn’t believe her press release. Imagine the directors like Spielberg, Scorsese, Eastwood etc. preparing this kind of video.

      • Dani says:

No, I think it says a lot about the public themselves and her detractors.

    • Lucrezia says:

      Will you marry me? 🙂

    • hmmm says:

A nice bit of reasoning, Nymeria. Thanks.

    • L says:

  55. rudy says:

Getting the chicken pox as an adult is horrendous. It is actually much more dangerous for an adult than it is for kids. When my girl was young all the mothers would call each other when their kid had chicken pox so we could expose our own. Everyone wanted the kids to get the virus, and not have to take the vaccine.

Poor Angie is right. And those blisters can easily cause scars if scabs are scratched off. Her body probably does not have the strongest immune system right now. I hope she recovers quickly. Perhaps the universe is teling Angie to slow down, don’t move so fast. Do nothing for a while but everyday mundane stuff like us. heh.

  56. Bread and Circuses says:

I’m in my mid-forties and have never had chicken pox (or mumps, or measles.) So yeah, it can happen.

  57. Vampi says:

Angie is not only gorgeous and accomplished in Hollywood as an actress, she has proven herself in other areas as well…..and some people (mostly WOMEN FFS) just cannot stand it.
Keep believeing it’s a PR stunt if y’all wan’t…it just shows YOUR bitterness and jealousy.
    Get well soon AJ!!

  58. Kt hatuh says:

I can’t stand Angie or Brad. Don’t have a reason, really, I just think they’re both highly overrated. That picture

  59. Korra says:

AJ is so cheesy sometimes. But I really enjoyed that video. It’s sweet. Hope she recovers fast. Pox as an adult is a nightmare and supposedly pretty dangerous.

  60. Laura says:

why wasn’t Ava Duvernay included in that roundtable video. i think she should get the best director award. not because she’s a female, but because Selma tops all other movies, even Unbroken. honestly it wont be fair if Angelina got the award. it is way too early for her to be recognize as a Best Director. However. if she kept improving, then she will sure win it in the future and based on merit, not gender. as a woman, i consider it to be sexist tn recieve something just because they are women, stepping on more qualified men.

  61. nope says:

i think she looks maniacal in the video

    • lisa2 says:

Is maniacal the new word for Beautiful or gorgeous..

It must be exhausting to hate someone so much. Someone you don’t know and has never done a thing to you.

      • FlowerintheAttic says:

and it must be exhausting to constantly fawn over and defend someone you don’t know and you’ve never actually met. See how that works both ways?

      • Janet says:

Actually, I’ve found that hating on someone uses up much more energy than liking someone, and ultimately isn’t worth the effort.

      • Valerie says:

Nice one, Janet… and very true.

  62. Ginger says:

I don’t know about it being better getting Chicken Pox as a child. I know it can be devastating to someone who is elderly. I had it at age Four and I still vividly recall the pain and the itch 41 years later. My Mother had to put socks on my hands at night to keep me from scratching. My much younger brother got the vaccine and never had it. I always felt he was lucky to have had the vaccine available. It wasn’t around when I was little so Mom’s used to put the kids together so they all got it at once. No joke.

  63. anna says:

People fake illnesses everyday to get out of work/obligations.

    • Dani says:

True, but its hard to argue when she posts video evidence as proof.

      • Wendy says:

“she posts video evidence as proof.” That’s the problem because usually if there are some issues some publicist would release a statement. But not this time – we have video, she is wearing a tank top to show everyone red spots, and the timing of course. She and her team are trying too hard. It’s almost comical.

      • Dani says:

You forget that people wouldn’t have believed her they would have thought it was a stunt, HENCE the video. Nothing try-hard about it, she is just being upfront so there is no confusion. That’s all.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

        @Wendy …

Also, you forget that Angie doesn’t have a ‘Steve Huvane’ in her Team. She has a Manager, but not a Publicist.

      • Wingnut says:

And I can make a video in my basement in 10 minutes of a flying saucer. This video doesn’t prove a single thing. The image quality is poor and that could be a makeup job, for all we know. It sounds, feels, seems and looks sketchy. To the people who keep crying, “why would SHE need good PR right now?!?!” Um. How does she NOT need it right now? It’s one thing to ignore tabloid gossip. It’s another if one of your colleagues says terrible things about you and the world hears them. She needs sympathy right now like nobody’s business. And she also won’t have to answer any questions about the whole business. Two birds with one stone.

    • Janet says:

Are you speaking from personal experience?

  64. Lizbeth says:

Her entire delivery and body language is so weird and creepy. I can’t believe they released the video. They could have come up with a better excuse. As some have said chicken pox in adults can be a serious illness, yet the studio described it as a “mild” case of chicken pox. She’s lying.

    • Dani says:

And as others have said, some cases can be mild at the start, and then turn serious. I had it as an adult (23) and it started quite benign enough, and looked exactly like she looks at the moment. She did the video so you could SEE the chicken pox, so those like you would have no reason to say she is lying. So, clearly she is not lying.

      • lisa2 says:

LOL.. you are using Reason and Sense..

If there had just been a statement these same people would be screaming for visual proof. Now they have both. so the fall back is she is creepy and weird so why release a video.

        Never changes.

      • Jessica says:

        OMG someone with a brain!

    • Lady D says:

I’m sure they could have come up with a crackerjack excuse, but instead they went with the truth.

  65. Louise177 says:

Chicken pox is an out there sickness for an adult. If she was faking it, wouldn’t she say a different disease? More importantly why would she even make an excuse? This is a really important week for the film. It makes no sense to flake out for a project that she put her heart and soul into. It’s funny how haters call Angelina fans insane on the basis of likely her but haters believe some of most bizarre conspiracy theories and rumors just to justify their hatred.

    • lisa2 says:

Some people just don’t have Common Sense.. Universal has a lot of money on the line. They would not let Angie back out of a commitment like this. And besides that Sony Rubin email leaked last week. She already did several appearances after it happened. So no some people need to believe the most silly things.. Her backing out of the Premiere would go with that theory if Unbroken was a Sony movie. IT IS NOT.. so how does her not attending the premiere of her Universal Movie hit back at Sony.

I wonder why the world is going to pot..people don’t have an ounce of sense anymore to actually THINK through what is logical and what is not.

      • Tippy says:

People are overlooking the fact that Angie was furious with Universal about being excluded from Unbroken’s final editing process.

Now that Unbroken is not receiving any awards recognition, there’s probably a lot of finger pointing between Universal and Angie.

I don’t doubt that she is sick but I can certainly see why they would now feel the need to over-compensate in the excuse dept. by releasing a video.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Tippy, who wrote: “People are overlooking the fact that Angie was furious with Universal about being excluded from Unbroken’s final editing process. … Now that Unbroken is not receiving any awards recognition, there’s probably a lot of finger pointing between Universal and Angie.”

I never read anything saying that “Angie was furious with Universal about Unbroken’s final editing process.” Why ‘would’ she be furious? It’s the Studio’s film. They make the final Editing decision, especially Universal who have always had a ‘hands on’ approach to film making and it’s not uncommon for other Studios to make the final Editing choice for a film. Angelina Jolie has been in over 40 films in her acting career so surely she knew Universal might make changes to the film going in, and if she didn’t, Brad did. So why in the world would she be upset?

And what do you mean by saying that “Unbroken is not receiving any awards recognition?” Don’t you mean instead that the film ‘has not’ received much Awards recognition thus far? “Unbroken” is included on the American Film Institutes top 11 films list for 2014 and we’ve only had the SAG and Golden Globes Award nomination announcements.

  66. Ag-UK says:

In the UK not many if any vaccinate for chicken pox I searched to have my son vaccinated luckily no reaction he just wanted a train from John Lewis. I have no idea if I have had them parents can’t remember(: she will be home longer than a week.

  67. Ducky la Rue says:

Wow, I thought the Cumberbatch threads had taken over most of the crazy commenting around here, but I see the Brange still has a few miles left in the tank yet. Who knew there was so many chicken pox conspiracy theorists out there?

  68. LAK says:

That director’s roundtable is seriously pandering to AJ.

All the other directors are auteurs and the AJ? Come on. Were Jane Campion or Katherine Bigelow or Sally Porter or Catherine Hardwicke not available?

    • lisa2 says:

Did they have movies out this year.. and just because you are a new director should not exclude you. They are talking about movies.. and every director at some point was a NEW DIRECTOR.

      She did well with them.

    • What says:

I agree with you..although i admire the fact that she started directing..she did not probe herself yet to participate…maybe after more than 2 movies she should be accepted..but it is unfair, that she gets to sit there with these great directors, when another director should have been given the chance..she is not a proven director yet…she could be the next Clint Eastwood..but it’s too early. Hollywood is very political that is unfair…they don’t even hide it anymore or pretend to.

  69. Wingnut says:

I think it’s far too convenient that she’s sick right now. Imagine the questions about her award “snubs” and the Sony stuff she’d get if she kept up the tour? No. This is weird. And for someone who claims not to care what other people think of her or what other people say of her (she even goes so far as to claim that she is completely unaware of what is actually said about her), she seems VERY eager to prove to everyone the reason why she won’t be in the public eye. I call BS. And I agree with other posters. No other director would do this. She seems desperate, and it’s showing.

  70. Jax says:

I, too, think the video is rather unlike Angelina. It is clear in the video that SHE can’t believe this pox came upon her, in this of all weeks, and if she has a hard time believing it with pox all over her then how could anyone else? I think the video is a bit of whimsy on her part. As in, if you can’t laugh about it you’d just sit down and howl to the moon.

As for her being too afraid to face the world after that jerk producer’s emails? Not even going to dignify that again with another comment, as I already did above. But I do find it telling that in nearly 40 years of her career there has been no one else to say negative things about her, if they’d actually met her. In fact, many who expected to find a diva or outgrown ego and were surprised to find a warm, down-to-earth and witty, not to mention downright funny, woman that they found impossible not to like.

Get well soon Angie. Sorry you have to miss such an important event. Doubt you’ll let it keep you down for long.

  71. scout says:

Terrible news, get well soon Angie! She needs few days of rest after all that she did for the past few months. For people who never had Chicken Pox or had them as children, get vaccinated for Shingles after your 60th birthday, PLEASE! My dad is 75 and got Shingles (same Virus as Chicken Pox) and it is painful to see him suffer but easily preventable if you get vaccinated.

  72. What says:

She is faking it for sure! I had chicken pox as an adult and you dont look like this! Your eyes are burning and it is visible that you’re sick..it’s not the same as it is with an infant…she looks healthy( well anorexic) but not sick..the fact that she made a video makes me very suspicious as well! As if she has to prove something..you don’t have to prove that you’re sick if you’re really sick…that’s ridiculous..she has 6kids, travels the world to countries, where you are obliged to be inoculated…and yet she has chicken pox..right? Where did she get chicken pox? From her fans? That’s ridiculous..i can’t believe that people actually believe her crap!
