More than a year ago, we had photos from the Miami set of a film that was then going by the name Arms and the Dudes. The film is now being called War Dogs. War Dogs stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. You would think that with those two actors, it would be a total douche-off, but after watching the trailer… I think Miles Teller might be “the charming one.” We talked about the photos from the set last year because Jonah gained a lot of weight while filming, and it’s slightly startling to see him in the trailer. The film is based on a true story of two kids in Florida who successfully (for a time) gamed the Pentagon’s contract-system and underbid huge arms firms. These two guys (both in their early 20s at the time) were given a $300 million Pentagon contract to supply guns and ammo to Afghanistan and Iraq. The Pentagon basically handed $300 million to a couple of stoner frat bros and they came close to pulling it off. Here’s the trailer:
Yeah, I know we’re supposed to hate Miles Teller, and truly, whenever he opens his mouth in an interview, I can only shake my head at his douche-bro ways. But… on screen, I find him compelling. I think he actually is a movie star. And I’m interested in seeing this film. It’s difficult to do a “dark comedy” about warfare and arms deals, especially if that story is true, and based on wars that are very fresh in the public discourse. But I kind of think they might pull it off? Also: Bradley Cooper cameo? Hm.

Sorry, Miles Teller is a big ol’ NOPE for me. Won’t pay to see it as he is in it.
It’s not very logical, I know, but I just CAN’T with that guy
I am the same way with Miles and Jonah Hill. This movie is a big old no for me.
Me too, I can’t stand either of them.
Me as well! There is something about Jonah that has always rubbed me the wrong way. Ever since the press for This is the End, I have been unable to stand Jonah Hill at all. He came off as such a diva/douchebag in ALL the interviews he did for that movie.
It’s his face for me. And he acts like he’s a big deal when he’s really not.
same here. double dose of nope for me
So Hangover IV then?
I doubt this script has the sophistication to really be a “dark comedy” about war. Based on the trailer’s parting “your mom” joke, my guess is it’s just another bro comedy that happens to be about war.
Yeah. This is The Hangover 4 and there happens to be a real war somewhere in between the plot.
Not interested. I could stomach Teller in Whiplash but thats it. Hill is a douche and not even funny.
I can’t think of any American dark comedies about war at the moment, could someone help? I that there are some, but I can’t think of amy right now.
There are dozens of them ib European cinema, especially in countries from the former Yugoslavia ( I’m from that area so I know those best).
What about Three Kings?
MASH
I love MASH, both the series and film! How could I forget. Three Kings I haven’t seen, but I will check it out.
Also Dr. Strangelove
And would The Men Who Stare At Goats be considered dark comedy or just comedy? I looked it up and it was co-produced by US & Brits.
Full Metal Jacket?
Wow! Jonah Hill’s weight gain is really alarming. I hope he’s not harming his health with the yo-yo dieting.
Miles Teller seems so forgettable to me on screen, I get the exact opposite impression of him.
Miles Teller can act which is good but I know too much about him from here to like him. So will he tone down his douchy-ness in the interviews or will he be the same? He reminds me of Jesse Eisenberg, both of them thinking they’re better than others.
As for the movie, I’ll wait for it to come out on Netflix or Redbox.
I love Miles Teller, he’s genuinely charismatic onscreen. Love Jonah Hill too. This movie looks like great fun, I’ll definitely watch it.
Miles Teller was impressive in Whiplash. I don’t care for his real-life personality, but the guy can act.
I hate Miles Teller. There’s something about him, maybe it’s the constant smirk or his frat boy attitude but he’s so off putting.
Me too. There’s just something so yucky about him.
the germans called it backpfeifengesicht. a ‘face that should be slapped’.
Exactly!!
The only thing I could see in this trailer is how dirty Hill’s face looks.
Even in the non-desert scenes, he looks like he had a really bad self-tanner incident…
wash yo face!
This looks extremely stupid to me, but I’m not the target audience anyway. And Miles looks like a movie star (not for me though) because he’s so full of himself with all his smirks and condescending attitude, I bet he’s not even acting just being his usual d-bag…
I think the movie looks pretty good. Bradley is also a producer on this too.
If Leonardo DiCaprio would be in the movie as well – it would be a true nightmare to me. I can’t stand any of them: Teller, Hill, Cooper. And DiCaprio would be the (rotten) cherry on top.
I guess, being into gossip and the impact of social media kind of ruined a lot of actors for me. Most of the time all I see is the actor on screen and not the character he or she is portraying (but it is mostly male actors). It’s like watching a high school play with all the people you know in it – no matter how much they try, you know it is the kid that can’t tell the difference between their and they’re in class.
OMG he looks os much like the poor Chris Penn in this picture. Which is not a nice thing, given how Chris ended up.
I’ll probably get shot for saying this, but Miles grew on me a little. I think he’s quite awesome, though I got really mad at him for talking trash of my one true love, J. K. Simmons.
