Together the names sound kinda cute, and they are middle names so who cares. Good thing she she didn’t go all crazy hollywood.

    • LA Elle says:

I actually like this – if you’re going to do a weird name, make it the middle name.

My one caveat would be that I dislike Charlie as a given name. While I love Charlie as a nickname, I do think people should have the option of going by Charles or another nickname. Also, Charles Wolf sounds even cooler than Charlie Wolf.

      • WTW says:

@LA Elle My grandmother named my mother Abby, not Abigail. Many people call her Abigail anyway, assuming that’s her real name. So in this instance, the formal name became the nickname. I also had a friend named Eddie, just Eddie. He’s now a judge, so he turned out all right, despite his nickname as first name.

      • HadToChangeMyName says:

My boss’s formal name is Patti (not Patricia and not with a y).

      • Stacy Dresden says:

        My pet peeve also.

  2. teacakes says:

Eh, Elsie and Charlie are cute names and no one really cares about middle names in real life.

But tell me, fellow CB-ers – what would you name a kid, if you could give one a name?

I just suggested Yohan to my cousin for her son, since it’s a name I will never use for any kid of mine (I love it but I don’t want to be having any kids and it’s the name of an ex from 10 years ago who I’m still in touch with professionally. .. so no go).

    • Alyce says:

I’ve always wanted to name my (future) daughter Illa. I like Yohan!

    • swak says:

I like Yohan, but I can see it being spelled wrong constantly. My daughter is named Erin and you wouldn’t believe the number of people who have said “Do you spell than A-a-r-o-n?” She’s female, doofuses, not male!

      • teacakes says:

Yohan isn’t likely to be spelt wrong where I am – people are used to complicated names here and my ex never got his name misspelt either.

I can’t believe people confuse Erin and Aaron though. I thought Erin was a fairly well known girls’ name!

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

@Teacakes: For over 20 years I told myself that one day I would have a daughter, that she would have red hair (like me), and that I would name her Elora Danen (It’s the name of the red-haired baby princess from the 80s movie Willow). So, when I found out I was pregnant with my 1st daughter I was SO excited and told my husband, “Wait, I have the PERFECT name!!” He immediately shut me down. No amount of begging and cajoling could convince him (couldn’t convince him for daughter #2 either–who actually does have red curly hair & blue eyes). It’s a cute family story now, but I will secretly admit I’m still a bit bitter. I f’ing love that name…

      • teacakes says:

@Scarlet Vixen – you have my sympathies! My mother actually saved me from a rather awful name my dad’s side of the family wanted me to have, I can’t imagine how bitter I’D be if she hadn’t got to.

    • Bethany says:

Navarre for a boy and Gwenhuvera for a girl.

    • Babs says:

Ariane for a girl. But I’m expecting a boy, and he will be my only kid, so no Ariane for me.

      • zan says:

Ariane is such a pretty name!

      • Fifee says:

When i was pregnant way back in the 90’s I had a multitude of girl names even though i didnt know what sex the baby was. Anyway, Ariane was one of the top 3 names in my list, sadly she became a Rebecca after being told by a multitude of people that they would never know how to spell Ariane.

      • Babs says:

That’s why I never talk about my name choices irl 🙂
I’m french though, so no problem with the spelling. More with the rocket, but I don’t care, rockets are beautiful things! Anyway, no girl for me, but I think I find a good compromise with the name of my yet-unborn son 🙂 I’m quite sure people won’t like it but they will deal and get used to it 🙂

    • HadToChangeMyName says:

I was going to name my daughter Mia (pronounced Maya – like Angelou). The weird spelling is because it’s my name with some consonants taken out. Ended up with a boy, so no Mia.

    • mellie says:

I have three daughters and they all have names that begin with the letter ‘S’, I wanted so badly for one of them to be named Scarlett, but my husband shut that $hit down right from the get go, I was devastated.

      • Elsa says:

If I carried a human being for 9 months then you bet your behind that I am the one who will be naming it. There would be no “shutting down”.
Alternatively, we would compromise. I name the first kid, you the second.
3 daughters and you didn’t get to name one?? No ma’am!

      • teacakes says:

Damn I’m sorry Mellie. Scarlett is a lovely name, I’d be mad as hell if I couldn’t even get a compromise to make it a middle name or something.

Also, my first naming options for the daughters I will never have started with an S too – Sofia, Susanna and Sasha. It’s a really pretty letter to start names with.

      • thaliasghost says:

I always think that is funny since Sasha is a name for boys 🙂

      • mellie says:

We ended up with Sydney, Savanna and Sally and I love all the names very much and if I didn’t like them a little bit I could have shut those down too, but I still think about a little girl named Scarlett and my baby is 18 yo! haha. Oh well, someone else can have it!

      • teacakes says:

@thaliasghost – It’s very much a girl’s name too, see Sasha Pivovarova or President Obama’s younger daughter. But I liked its unisex nature, love it in fact.

@mellie – I see you had different S names from mine but they’re a lovely set even if Scarlett isn’t among them.

  3. Kaye says:

    GARY GROUNDHOG.

    THANK YOU.
    THANK YOU.

    First laugh of the day.

  4. spidey says:

Stop and think – would I like to be called that before imposing the name on your kid,

    • third ginger says:

Hello, dear. Our daughter has an old fashioned name that has yet to make a comeback. She always liked her name. In school she was surrounded by Madisons, Dakotas, Ashlyns. Taylors. Those were the popular names. There were so many of them, but I read somewhere that kids often enjoy having a popular name.

      • spidey says:

Hello to you. Mine name is just uncommon enough without being out of the ordinary and I am very happy with it, much prefer it to my sister’s! I think kids would prefer a popular name to one that is outlandish and could get them bullied at school.

      • Babs says:

I have a rare name. I hated it when I was a kid but now I am super happy with it. You don’t stay kid for very long 🙂

      • detritus says:

I have the most common 1980s name.
I hated it. Still don’t care for it. There were always at least three of us, sometimes exact, sometimes in variations, in every class ever. I felt like my parents were boring and unoriginal and thought about legally changing it when I was an angsty teen.

      • teacakes says:

@Babs – exactly, one doesn’t remain a kid forever. Plus a lot of unusual names are ethnic ones – and I have very strong words to say about the idea that people should not give their kids names that reflect their culture because of hypothetical school bullies.

I have a super generic first name (for where I am) that basically conceals my religious background. I was fine with it as a kid because I wasn’t and still am not religious at all, but it’s still part of my family and my culture and now, as an adult, I wish my name didn’t let me ‘pass’, so to speak.

  5. Lucy2 says:

At least they are middle names, not first names. And the first names she chose are fine. I don’t know why parents have suddenly forgotten that you can name a child one thing and called him a nickname if you want something cutesy or different.

  6. Anastasia says:

God, I love caftans. I do wear them a lot in the summer (I’m a teacher), but I’m going to try actually going out in public in one this summer. The short ones are easy to pull off as a loose dress, but the longer ones are so obviously a caftan…

I also wear a turban and drink G&Ts while becaftaned. It’s the only way to go.

  7. megan says:

On the link to the platform sandals – Gwyneth looks so much nicer with short hair!

  8. monette says:

I would have named my daughter Lara, but our surname is Lar so it would have been Lara Lar. No bueno 🙁 Fortunately we got a boy.

  9. Who ARE These People? says:

What baby names are going to be more popular – Wolf, Jake, Rachel and Keith, or Kellyanne, Sean and Bill?

  10. Dollypaws says:

No kids here but in my imagination a girl would have been Nina or Steffi ( after one of the greatest tennis players of all time) . I’m surprised Trump didn’t insist on Ivanka being called Donalda. So that’s what I’m calling her now.

  11. All_Damn_Day says:

I wanted to name our daughter Amalthea after the heroine of The Last Unicorn. My husband and MIL were against it, but I secretly call her it when we’re alone. She’s 4 weeks old, so I don’t think it confuses her yet.

  12. Alexandria says:

Not planning for kids but for a girl, maybe Maya Alexandria. M and A are the first letters of our first names.

  13. Swordspoint says:

My daughter’s name is Kivrin and my son’s name is Calloway. We narrowed things down to a list of three for each sex (didn’t find out ahead of time), all of which we had to at least LIKE even if only one of us was all heart-eyes…

In the end, both first names were my pick and my husband chose the middle names. I cared more about the naming than he did, though, and I did the work so I feel justified. 😄
