This is sweet. The NBC drama This is Us has received acclaim from audiences and critics alike, and a lot of it has to to with the show’s extremely talented cast. When the show was nominated for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series at this year’s SAG Awards, the youngest members of the cast, playing the kid versions of the “Big Three” and the other kids in the extended Pearson clan, weren’t invited to the ceremony. Fortunately for these young actors, some of their adult counterparts took them as their “plus one” Sunday Night. This is Us of course took home Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, beating out such tough competitors as The Crown, Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale and last year’s winner, Stranger Things.
Mackenzie Hancsicsak, who plays 10-year-old Kate, Chrissy Metz’s character, showed her appreciation to her “date” on Twitter.
Just want 2 thank Miss @ChrissyMetz again 4 very graciously & selflessly giving up her plus one so I could attend the SAG awards. Some of the kid ensemble didn’t appear in enough episodes 2 qualify, but when the adults found out, they stepped up & offered their plus one. Thank U! pic.twitter.com/P3DJ58CClU

Mackenzie is adorable, and she shared tweets and Instagram posts throughout the evening. I adore her because she is the fangirl I would be at an awards ceremony. She was thrilled to meet Stranger Things stars Caleb McLoughlin and Millie Bobby Brown. She even got a chance to snap a pic with Allison Janney. I am so jealous. In a cute Instagram pic, she posed with an award and confessed, “I almost fainted when they said our name.”
Mackenzie wasn’t the only This is Us kid at the SAGs. Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin, brought along Logan Shorter, who plays teen Kevin. Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth, brought Justin’s 10-year-old counterpart, Parker Bates. Mandy Moore, who plays Pearson matriarch Rebecca, brought along Jermel Nakia, who plays young William. The adorable Lonnie Chavis, who plays 10-year-old Randall, Hannah Zeile, who plays teen Kate and the actresses who play Randall’s daughters, Eris Baker (Tess) and Faithe Herman (Annie) were also in attendance.
Not only did the ensemble cast pick up a victory, the wonderful Sterling K. Brown also took home the prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series. As if anyone else deserved that. While accepting the best series award, Milo Ventimiglia gave a shout-out to the show’s fans and creator, Dan Fogelman. He said, “We are just a small collection of a lot of very talented and very hardworking people who work on this show. Without Dan and our talented writers, we would not have words to say.” He went on to add, “The people who watch with us every Tuesday night and embrace this show that reflects positivity and hope and inclusion, we love you.”
While the young plus ones were a coordinated effort by the adult cast, what wasn’t set up in advance was the wardrobe choices made by the shows actresses. Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, and Susan Kelechi Watson all wore the royal blue gowns, as if it was planned, but according to Mandy, it was merely a wild coincidence.
Mandy posted a photo with Chrissy and Susan on on Instagram noting that their matching gown colors were a coincidence.
If you’re a fan of the show, you know Jack’s inevitable demise can’t be too far off. Director Ken Olin promised that a lot of loose ends are soon to be cleared up – and you just might want to stock up on Kleenex in advance. On Monday, he tweeted that the episode that aired last night, as well as the next two – one of which airs after the Super Bowl, “are going to answer all your questions… and pretty much break all your hearts.” Uh-oh.
Everyone get ready for the next 3 episodes of @NBCThisisUs. Tomorrow night. Sunday night after the Super Bowl. And the following Tuesday night, February 6th. They are going to answer all your questions… and pretty much break all your hearts.

Yea it’s the super bowl ep which I figured. It’s a coveted spot and shows typically drop huge episodes on that night.
I’m pretty positive I know why kate feels guilty about his death at this point. I’m also not ready
Do tell!!!!
Yes please share your thoughts! Kate is definitely involved, I feel like the dog is too somehow? Lol
They want us to believe Jack goes back in the house to save the dog and ends up not making it back out…but the way this show works, everything isn’t always how we think it’s going to be. I don’t think their dad dies in the fire…I do think the dog does though. I think the dad probably dies in a car crash on his way to get Kevin after the house burns down…just my guess. Remember Kevin and Sophie are headed to a party in the woods? I could be wrong, because they make it seem that Kate holds all the guilt for how their father dies…but if you pay attention Kevin holds A LOT in. He is battling something and he had “dad” written on the back of the paper of the names of people he needed to make “amends” with. I could be way off though. I guess we’ll see !
Also, forgot to mention the scene where Rebecca drives home to the house (which is now completely destroyed by the fire). She sits in the car and cries while a bag with Jack’s belongings sits on the seat next to her. I think I saw a watch and wallet. Those would have burned in the fire would they have not? Seems as though she might have just come from the hospital after he was pronounced dead and they gave her his “belongings”. Like I said, I could be wrong. Ok I’ve said enough lol.
@Me, I remember that scene. It could still be a fire-related death, though, like from smoke inhalation.
@ TheDecorGuru
Oh you’re right it could be ! But that just seems too obvious. This show keeps us on our toes…but who knows you could be right !
For some reason I thought Kate went to go find Kevin in the woods with Sophie to tell him their dad is dead, so maybe Kevin has guilt about not being there? And that moment brings Kevin and Kate even closer and makes them more codependent.
As soon as I saw the dog show up during the drinking turmoil with jack I had a feeling it would be involved in his death, if not responsible.
I have a few headcanons from the pieces they’ve dropped and interviews. The dog is definitely involved, the fire and kevin. I have two headcannons that seem to fit but I need to watch the latest episode again. I just don’t want to spoil something since last time I discussed something on here I got yelled at for spoilers lol
I’ll see yall back here for superbowl ep.
this show is really beautifully done! When I started to watch the series I was specially surprised with Mandy Moore, since she never caught my attention in anything that she did before but here is really very good! I guess that shows that an actor/actress can only do so much with what they receive for a script. Kevin is right after all 😉 I’m glad they won!
My gosh that one lady is disturbingly morbidly obese, it’s all I can see.
Open your mind and soul wider maybe THAT will help you see more…IJS
I don’t watch either, but maybe I’ll have to. I get major soap opera vibes from this, which is why I’ve stayed away. Is it pretty soapy? I love Mandy Moore and root for her in everything.
Broodytrudy, for whatever my opinion is worth….no, not a soap. It’s a beautifully acted and nuanced story about a family with all of their trials and tribulations and flaws. The characters are so wonderfully developed over the life of the show and you will find yourself falling in love with each and every one of them.
Having said that, just know going in that it has a lot of tear jerking episodes. This is not a show to watch if you want to sit down and laugh for an hour each episode.
I’m completely addicted.
It annoys me that I can only catch up if I buy a subscription to hulu (or, if that is wrong, some clear me up!). I didn’t hear about this show until sort of late, and I feel like it’s one of those ones you have to watch every episode. I think I probably would like it, but if it never makes it to amazon or netflix, I will never see it. I can only subscribe to so many services!
Subscribe to Hulu free for 30 days and binge the hell out of it. It’s only 1 1/2 seasons to catch up on.
I agree with Mama, binge. Just prepare to “ugly cry” during it.
I adore the child who plays 10-year old Randall. He’s just the cutest.
**SPOILER ALERT**
I think we’ve got almost all the pieces of the puzzle now.
We knew that there was a house fire and Jack died being a hero, as everyone remembers him very fondly and speaks highly of him.
Kate’s guilt plus Toby pointing out that she’s always had a problematic relationship with dogs makes me think that he died trying to save the dog from the fire, either because Kate was desperate and straight-up begged him to do something, or since he knew how much her daughter cared about her little fur-friend. Thoughts?
I don’t remember Toby talking about problematic relationship Kate has with dogs, but with the guilt she has, it wouldn’t surprises me if it were about the dog!! Spot on
You’re right, he doesn’t exactly say that, more something like: you are very sensitive about dogs. Sorry, I don’t remember the exact words. This conversation was on Monday’s episode, when Kate walks in on Toby browsing dog shelters’ websites.
Oh sorry! I just saw the last epsode (French here so I waited for the streaming version to come up.. i know it’s bad)
I definitly see it now!
Same here! I’m Italian so I watch it on streaming.. 😉
This show always steers differently than we expect it to. They want us to believe he dies in that fire, and they are making it so obvious, but I bet that’s not how he dies. They wouldn’t make it so easy for us. It’s going to be a real shocker.
We love this show!!!
I can’t take it with this show. It seems like the show’s only goal is “make ‘em cry” and it’s just annoying at this point.
Ha, I look forward to my weekly cry. I’m into it. Love that they brought the kids, so sweet.
We have a joke running about what episode won’t make us cry, but I love why it makes us cry! It’s a good cry.
I don’t watch the show but this is so sweet! The kids are really cute and I bet they had a blast!!
