Maskless Queen Elizabeth steps out for her first public event of 2021

Queen Liz stepped out for a public event today, her first public event outside of Windsor this year. They obviously kept Liz in the “HMS Bubble” for much of the past year, but Liz and Philip received their Covid vaccines in January and I guess everyone felt comfortable allowing Liz to do a public event now that some of the British lockdown restrictions have been eased. Still, here in America, even with the millions of people now vaccinated, we’re still being encouraged to wear masks when we’re in public spaces. Liz did not wear a mask. Of course she didn’t. No one around her wore masks either.

So what was this appearance? She was marking “the Centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force during a visit to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Air Forces Memorial in Runnymede.” She watched a fly-by of the Red Arrows and proclaimed “I’m delighted to be here.” She also remarked that Australians stuck in Britain during the pandemic should be happy because there are “worse” places to be in lockdown. ORLY?

Interestingly enough, CBS This Morning had a segment this morning about the state of the British Commonwealth in the wake of the Sussexes’ Oprah interview. It definitely feels like the sh-t will hit the Commonwealth fan once Liz is gone, you know? All of King Charles’s minions won’t be able to put it back together. My guess is that Australia will be one of the first countries to say “peace out.”

Am I the only one who thinks she looks much more aged suddenly?

I definitely have more gray hair and deeper undereye circles after covid.

  2. Snuffles says:

I think it’s safe to say every Australian stuck in the UK would rather be in Australia right now. It was far less of a clusterfuck down under.

    • Jo73c says:

True for the past year, but if Australia doesn’t get it’s vaccination programme sorted pretty quickly, all their good work will have gone to waste – they’re starting to get outbreaks there now, because people are out & about, state borders are opening up, but almost no one is vaccinated.

When I saw the pictures, I knew Kaiser would have something to say about this. I’m guessing the Palace mandated that everyone who was going to attend this event take a COVID test like the last time she went out maskless. This is just terrible role modelling.

When princes on ponies just aren’t enough, bring out the old lady. Lol

  5. Jo73c says:

Masks outdoors have never been mandated or even recommended in the UK, only indoors.

Once charles becomes king there will be way more calls for independence among the commonwealth countries and you know what? I simply cannot wait *rubs hands*

That ghost of diana isn’t going to let him rest.

Now Kaiser, Masks are peasants. Queens don’t wear masks 🥴

  8. Becks1 says:

I’m not surprised she’s not wearing a mask, did anyone expect her to? I am surprised they dont mandate that everyone around her wear a mask.

  9. Lizzie says:

Has she suddenly lost weight? Her coat looks much to big. Much like trump, she will never wear a mask.

  10. Carabella says:

I actually feel sorry for her after seeing these pics and how she’s suddenly turned frail. She didn’t ask to be HMQ and those kids of hers … nightmare.

    • Charlie says:

She can abdicate. Abdicate and still serve her country. Others of her peers have done it. Sorry – not sorry.

      • Carabella says:

She might still abdicate but probably not until Philip has gone—if he goes first.

I think it’s actually a good thing that she hasn’t gained weight during the lockdown. It means that she is staying active and at her age a little weight loss would actually be better for her joints and walking. For almost 95, she is incredibly stable on her feet. I think the natural lighting was not kind to her face. Whoever is in charge of her zooms always has the room in very soft almost dim lighting and the still photos of her are of course retouched to present her on the kindest way. I was not surprised they trotted her out. Earlier in the week they announced that once again she would not be attending church publicly. So that was a loss of photos for the tabloids. So they had to give them something. I wonder if the Cambridge’s will put out some photos of the kids this weekend.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Catherine, not gaining weight rather than having lost weight are two different things. She does look like she’s lost weight. She’s certainly at her age you would expect her to get more and more frail. I just wonder, however, what her health is like? Everyone focuses on Phillip because he’s older. I wonder how she’s doing physically.

  12. Catherine says:

Let me clarify my point about her weight. Prior to lockdown she had gotten heavier in the last few years as she was reducing her public duties; which is not unusual as one ages but can be very unhealthy. The Queen is a very small in stature. I think it’s been reported that she is around 5’3”. So prior to lockdown when I saw her I was actually concerned about her weight gain. Because of things like high blood and diabetes that can go along with that but also because of the stability issues it can create. So for me her weight loss is not a negative because overall she still appears to be quite physically strong and stable on her feet. The steadiness of gait is remarkable for nearly 95. I’m not trying to negate anyone else’s concern/opinion though.

And she still rides horses…quite remarkable in ones 90s….whether you are royal or not.
