Prince Harry & William will both ‘appear’ at the Diana Legacy Awards this week

Both Prince William and Prince Harry consistently support the Diana Awards and the Diana Legacy Awards. They are annual events recognizing young people who are carrying on Princess Diana’s legacy of service and charity. Harry is, in my opinion, more closely associated with the Diana Awards, and he has always made a point of publicly showing up the event and the winners, while William’s attendance is usually brief, nonexistent or done “privately.” This year, William will attend in person while Harry will attend virtually, and only after Huevo has left the building.

In a rare joint event, the Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex will reunite for a common cause to pay tribute to their late mother, albeit in separate appearances. Prince William will attend the Diana Legacy Award event in person on Thursday night at the Science Museum in London, where he will give a short speech and present awards to 20 recipients.

His brother, who lives in California, will then make a virtual appearance by joining a video call with the winners. However, Prince Harry’s involvement will only take place once his brother has departed.

While both princes are understood to be committed to supporting the awards scheme, which was established to honour their late mother, their refusal to fully join forces highlights their ongoing rift.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “The Prince [of Wales] will meet key staff and supporters of the Diana Award, before joining the ceremony where he will hear about the recipients’ work, make a short speech and present Legacy Awards to this year’s winners.” Afterwards, William will meet with all the winners.

At the end of the evening, the award recipients will then receive a video call from Harry, who is expected to make a short speech and talk to the winners.

Dr Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, said: “It’s a privilege to have the support of both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex — particularly as we mark our 25th anniversary year.”

While the Diana Awards take place annually, the Legacy Award event is held every two years to celebrate the achievements of 20 “exceptional young leaders who are inspiring the next generation to follow in Diana, Princess of Wales’s footsteps and make a positive difference to the world”.

[From The Times]

Kind of wonder if Huevo will cancel his appearance at the last minute? Probably not, especially because he’ll get to “compete” with Harry. Anyway, this is all a deflection – the British media would much rather spend the week doing commentary on Harry and William’s estrangement and how much William despises his brother. That’s their comfort zone. They are deeply uncomfortable with how badly the Mother’s Day Photo Fiasco has played out, just as they’re big mad that Kensington Palace is such a clownshow.

God Bless Harry and his Family in Montecito. His Mum’s spirit is always with them.

    • acha says:

I am so glad he’s all the way over there in Montecito.

Does anyone wonder what the meeting with Harry and Charles was ACTUALLY about?

Harry went to see his dad — the meeting was shorter than an hour. Did Charles say, “By the way, William accidentally unalived Kate, we don’t expect you to do sh-t about it, bye.”

And now Harry’s living with the results? Or maybe Harry stood up and said, “Dad, I don’t want to know, and I don’t want anything to do with this horror show.”

    • MoxyLady007 says:

My theory – Harry knows and doesn’t want to even appear virtually in the same venue as his brother as it will seem like tacit complicity or approval of the mess that’s going on over there.

  2. Anna M says:

I don’t think he’ll, his jealousy and ego won’t let him. After all, he only seems to be re-energized and inspired to work when he has to compete with and one up Harry, otherwise he sits back, lacks new ideas, makes excuses and don’t show up.

  3. Yes Peg will give his word salad speech and leave and then Harry will honor his mother and the recipients with a very heartfelt and believable speech because Harry truly is his mother’s son.

  4. MY3CENTS says:

If willy is too mad / hungover to go he can always ask Kate to photoshop him in.

    • Steph says:

      😆

    • AlpineWitch says:

Hahaha 😆 You win the Internet today!

    • Anna M says:

lol, how can Kate sit and photoshop and not be able to sit for a Zoom call or send a home image sitting down to the public to assure everyone that she’s alive and doing well? I don’t believe Kate photoshopped the image, i believe it’s William and his PR using the “sick” Kate to soften the blow.

      • BlueNailsBetty says:

I seriously doubt William even did the photoshop. He’s not the brightest bulb in the package and he has no curiosity for learning (especially creative endeavors).

Whoever did the photoshop (definitely not Kate) knew enough to create a decent frankenphoto. It had to be a trusted staffer or a friend. William just doesn’t have the knowledge or ability to do anything that requires any sort of finesse.

    • ML says:

*whispers* unless he was drunk/ hungover when he photoshopped Kate and she’s not around to help him

    • MerlinsMom1018 says:

      @My3Cents

      👏👏👏👏👏👏

  5. Miranda says:

William is so f–king cruel, petty, and vindictive that he refuses to just be in the same room when his brother makes a virtual appearance at an awards ceremony to honor the legacy of their famously warm, compassionate, generous mother. I think this might actually be even more disrespectful towards Diana than his labeling her as crazy and trying to silence her even in death.

    • Underhill says:

William can’t be in the same room with Harry because the sight of Harry might make him even more incandescent with rage than he normally is. He is like one of those fighting gamecocks who can’t see itself in a mirror, or it will break the mirror trying to peck the image to death. And Harry is the image.

      • SueBarbri33 says:

Yes! And they actually told us so, during the run-up to the big hat party last year. Remember all those crazy stories that were like “William can’t control his rage if he sees Harry in person,” or whatever? And, come to think of it, I bet that is (one of) the explanation(s) for Anne’s weirdo hat feather thing: It blocked William’s view of Harry when he walked into the church. It’s odd too, because I actually thought both of them performed very well and professionally at Phil’s funeral and Liz’s funeral and at the unveiling of the Diana statue. If you hadn’t known what was going on between them, it would have been almost impossible to guess from body language. It’s telling that William cannot put on his big boy pants and sit through even a short speech by his brother. What’s he going to do if he sees Harry? Throw something? Start shouting at the screen? This is all so ridiculous. And, once again, the true story of whatever has gone wrong in the Windsor household is totally centered on William’s personality problems.

      • Casey C says:

        😂😂😂😂😂

      • Square2 says:

“What’s he going to do if he sees Harry? ”

Mmm….Like Piss M0rgan did (@Brits Awards): got up, walked out while complaining, and walked right into a glass door/wall? Wouldn’t that be a sight to see!

  6. Laura D says:

What an absolute fool William is. This is a PR opportunity which is worth its weight in gold. All he has to do is introduce his brothers video conference call and it would knock all talk of “Where’s Kate?” off every front page for days. It would also go a little way into quietening the stories of him being in a continual state of anger, fury or incandescence. If he really is looking to divorce Kate then he should be looking to gain headlines about how kind, calm and forgiving he can be and staying to introduce “My brother Harry” would be a good place to start!

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I agree. William’s history is already being written, and it’s not pretty: a rage monster who drove his bi-racial in-laws away, who screams and throws things at his wife, an adulterer, a lazy man who barely works, who lied to the press and cannot be trusted. If this isn’t the way he wants to be recorded in history, he needs a complete do-over. Reconciling with his popular and charismatic brother and sister-in-law would do wonders for his reputation and legacy.

      • MoxyLady007 says:

I genuinely think Harry does not want to be associated with whatever has happened or more specifically – what William has done and how he has behaved. This is a ROYAL mess and after the BRF has spent 6 plus years trying to torpedo H&M I can’t see him aligning with something that toxic.

    • Deering24 says:

Yeah, I don’t see Harry wanting anything to do with William–or this mess. He knows better than anyone how his family uses people to distract from bad news. He’s an old hand at avoiding traps just like this would be.

  7. ML says:

I agree that competition with Harry is a sure fire way to get William to show up. He kind of has to go tonight even if Harry weren’t doing s video because his colossal stupidity has caused major problems for the monarchy. His wife is missing, his dad is ill, his stepmother is old, his brother lives in another country…he has to show up especially after ditching his godfather’s memorial. I wonder how he’ll react to the speculation about K?

  8. Cessily says:

on top of everything else in the past month he had to make it known Prince Harry wasn’t allowed to be shown until he had the spotlight. Do they even have a pr staff?

  9. Scooby Gang says:

The way PW uses Diana’s legacy to polish up his own image will never not be gross to me.

Right now, he’s probably calling in favors to sabotage the A/V equipment.

  10. Amy Bee says:

I’ve seen clips from both GB News and Talk TV bemoaning the fact that Harry and William won’t be in the same room for these awards and that Diana wouldn’t want this for her sons. Whatever, people need to remember that Diana wasn’t talking to her mother when she died.

    • Jay says:

I’d be moaning, too, if it were going to be my job to prop up William’s ego and pretend that his appearance was very kingly and in no way awkward or stilted when compared to that of his brother. Even over zoom, Harry is just a straight up charisma factory, and it’ll fall to the likes of GB news to try to appease The Other Brother. I don’t envy them!

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Amy Bee, they don’t care if the two of them are together in the same room. They just want Harry to come back for a photo op and 1000 articles where they can denigrate him.

  11. Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

The level of petty childishness is truly mind boggling. I know that there are many people who agree with William’s behavior but I have noticed them to be petty, small minded and closed hearted individuals who have alienated all those who might have cared about them.

  12. T says:

William called Diana “paranoid” and by so doing, has already effectively taken over one of Charles’ roles, as well as that of this entire shi**y institution. He has no honor, and he does not honor his mother. #OldEnoughToRememberWhatTheyDidToHer.

  13. Lau says:

William’s team really need to tell him that making a show of avoiding his brother like that makes him look terrible. They are all collectively idiots though so it will never happen.

    • Lady Digby says:

If Willy dumps his missus when she is recovering from a serious operation then a lot of people are going to revise their view of him and also reconsider how he is shunning his own brother, SIL and two children. FK is also future head of CE : love thy neighbour and do not covert his charisma, wife or hair!

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Lady Digby, it really depends on what her medical issues are. If she’s truly on the mend and doing well, then her silence (other than manipulating that photo) is her choice.

      • Lau says:

I think they’ll begin to paint William differently when the divorce happens but they’ll never admit that he is being horrible to his own brother for no good reason.
