If I had money and access to move anywhere in the world, Texas is one of the last places I would go. I’m not trying to piss off Texans, especially the good souls who live in some of the more liberal areas of the state. But the Republican/MAGA politics of Texas are despicable and it simply feels like one of the worst states to be a woman, even a rich woman. Bella Hadid felt differently. She moved to Fort Worth at some point in the past year, and she now lives in a spacious Texas home with her boyfriend/partner Adan Banuelos. A big part of the move seems to be about horse culture – the Hadid sisters are horse girls, and Adan is described as a “horseman” too. But… there are other horse cultures outside of Texas! Isn’t there a huge horse culture in Florida? Another state with despicable politics. Anyway, Bella is loving Texas and she’s currently promoting her new perfume line. Some highlights from her Allure interview:
Her Fort Worth home: Hadid is at home, in the kitchen of her new Fort Worth, Texas home, with buttercream walls, vaulted ceilings, Tuscan columns, and at least one antler-shaped chandelier. She has slicked her hair back into the low, tight bun that launched a thousand “clean girl aesthetic” disciples in recent years. Her nails are short and bare, with neat oval tips. She has on a simple, teddy-bear-colored mohair sweater with buttons dotting the ridge of one shoulder, offset by jewelry that feels a bit more maximalist. Her yellow gold knot earrings harken to the 1980s (a time when Hadid, who refers to her current age as “30 in three years,” was not yet born).
Her Lyme disease: The last few weeks have been tough, she says, and describes her recovery as “not really linear” and “a roller coaster.” In the past year, she not only took an unofficial step back from modeling to focus on her mental and physical health, but moved to Texas and started an entirely new chapter with her horseman boyfriend, Adan Banuelos, whom she refers to as “my partner” and “an incredible older businessman” (he is 35).
Horse culture: Banuelos trains cutting horses and riders. (Cutting is a type of equestrian competition in which a horse and rider have to separate a single cow from a herd.) Earlier this year, Hadid, a longtime show jumper, competed in an amateur cutting horse competition (she placed eighth). She was ready for new challenges. “After 10 years of modeling,” Hadid says, “I realized I was putting so much energy and love and effort into something that, in the long run, wasn’t necessarily giving it back to me.”
Her perfume: Hadid is launching her own fragrance line, ‘Ôrəbella, pronounced “aura-bella,” a portmanteau of Hadid, which means “iron ore” in Arabic, and her first name. And, in a way, it’s a family business. “Growing up in an Arab family, perfume and scents were almost a personality trait—I can still remember the way my grandparents smelled when they walked into a room. My uncle Mahmoud was making his own essential oils in the 70s—woody, tobacco-smelling scents.”
She developed this on her own: “It wasn’t something where somebody came to me and said, ‘We want to start a business with you,” Hadid says. She simply sought an alternative to the kind of alcohol-based fragrances that tend to come out of major perfume houses…[and] unlike most perfumes, this one isn’t meant to be sprayed with abandon on your clothes, your hair, or your love letters. Its oil-rich base means it is strictly for use on skin; it would probably leave unseemly stains on clothing (I never risked it). It’s either restrictive or a novel, intimate take on scent, depending on how you look at it.
Life in Texas: “Just as I have styled myself for years now–which I still do–I love being able to do my own hair and makeup, be happy with how I look, and get ready with my girlfriends here in Texas. We have the best time, and I never feel like I need to do too much. For the first time now, I’m not putting on a fake face. If I don’t feel good, I won’t go. If I don’t feel good, I take time for myself. And I’ve never had the opportunity to do that or say that before. Now when anybody sees me in pictures and they say, I look happy, I genuinely am. I am feeling better; my bad days now were my old good days.”
Other than the part about living in Fort Worth, I admire her choices. So many celebrity women get so strung out in the celebrity rat race, believing that they can never take time off or go away for a while without their whole careers collapsing. And here’s Bella, taking a huge break and moving somewhere else, prioritizing her physical and mental health. She did more than dream of a different kind of life for herself, she actually made it happen. She sounds a lot happier. I’m curious about her perfume too.

Fort Worth is a city on the up. I grew up there and swore I’d never go back, but now it’s actually a place I don’t mind visiting.
It used to be a red sea but it’s getting more purple now. Big changes from when I was harassed by strangers for having a Kerry sticker on my car and was afraid to come out of the closet. Most big cities in Texas are blue. Our state government is still outrageous and makes it a terrifying place to live, though
I think her mom owns a horse farm in PA.
That’s freaking cool, good for her. Her man is handsome too.
Some of these women were pimped by their parents (mothers) in the spotlight, they ended up with a BDD (see the Kardashian) and always struggling to stay famous.
I think it’s great to see that she is trying to get away from all of this.
Texas is no income state and it’s not too much of a headache to get back to LA. That’s probably why she choose it.
She was just in Cannes so not 100% taking a break. She still needs to stay relevant to sell her perfume. Which definitely sounds interesting. I love oil based perfumes.
Yes she was at almost all of the movie premieres. I think she can afford to take a break and if she decides to get back to modeling one day she’ll have no problem which is not everybody’s case. There are plenty of models who can’t afford to take breaks because they’ll never get to where they used to be.
The Allure writer or Bella thinks oil perfume is novel? Lol. Tell it to the perfume oils that have been around forever.
I agree with Kaiser and to me, don’t understand a woman who would move to Texas as they’re torturing women of less means. And has an antler chandelier but loves horses. But whatever. Glad she’s feeling better.
I thought alcohol-based fragrances were called cologne, not perfume. Yes, oil based perfume is intended for skin, not for putting a grease spot on a love letter. As for spraying stuff on clothes, the only thing I do that with is DEET for long-lasting mosquito, tick etc. protection. The choice of Ft Worth, Texas sounds like it’s ideal for the partner who trains cutting horses and riders for rodeo. But it’s also good for her since she needs time to take care of herself.
It makes sense to me. She needs something else. she gets covered for modeling but I sometimes forget ab her until she comes around again doing some modeling or fashion outing. Smart. I want to try her fragrance
I say this as an ex-pat American, why aren’t they living in Europe? Or Japan?! And why Texas when Switzerland, Slovenia, Austria, Belgium, and so many other lovely places exist. They are doing rich wrong.
She is in Texas because she is crazy in love with her boyfriend who lives in Texas. I do not think it was her first choice to live there. Also, she does not live with her boyfriend technically a they both have separate homes that they own but they live very close to each other
Fort Worth is nice, but Collin County is very conservative — a huge nexus for the most despicable proponents of Texas politics. I live in Austin and love it but I don’t think I could live anywhere else in this state other than urban Houston or San Antonio.
Fort Worth is in Tarrant County, which neighbors Parker County – “The Cutting Horse Capitol of the World.” If breeding, training, and showing cutting horses is their thing then they are in the right place. It’s a fascinating discipline, very quiet but thrilling for the rider. Politically it’s a nightmare for women here. But for the sport of cutting, it’s a great location. Good for her putting her wellbeing first.
Agree with all of this.
Hubby and I used to talk about moving out to Texas to the Ft Worth/Dallas area. At one point Teacher pay was much better there than our current state. At the time, we didn’t like how the deeply conservative the state was getting and I saw massive issues with the Dept of Ed. Anywhoodle that feels like forever ago. We also strongly considered moving to Tampa 🤭. Hubby vetoed it because of the weather.
This all sounds so amazing. I am happy for her and her elder businessman and their horsies.
I live in Fort Worth and work as a journalist in the Western horse media world. I’ve met her boyfriend Adan and his family, been to his dad’s training facility and interviewed them for articles several times over the years. He is part of a dynasty of cutting champions and he’s really on top of that sport right now. I don’t know where he lives, but his family is in Weatherford, which is like 15 minutes straight west of Fort Worth proper. Like others have said, it’s the “cutting horse capital” of the world.
Parker County (where Weatherford is) is very red and also wealthy–cutting is an expensive sport and a lot of rich people/celebrities like to participate. Fort Worth is more red than next-door Dallas, but it’s definitely more of a purple city. There’s a lot of wealth and art and culture here. It is not po-dunk by any means. We’re 30 minutes from DFW airport which is a huge hub to get anywhere you need to go, so she’s not out in the boonies or anything. Western horse girl culture is different than English (what she has done for years) but it’s still horses.
I have yet to see Bella out and about but I cover a lot of cutting events here in Fort Worth (the headquarters for the National Cutting Horse Association is in Fort Worth and most of the major cutting events are here) so I am definitely keeping my eyes out!
Living the dream life! If I had millions, I’d retire to a horse farm too. And yes, Texas is perfect if you’re into raising horses and politics aside it has a great horse culture.
Texas taxes, that’s it and also Austin is to tacky now.
