Kylie Jenner: ‘I’m a true Leo to the core… I loved being the center of attention’

Kylie Jenner covers the latest issue of Dazed Digital. The piece seems like it’s just general promotion for all of Kylie’s businesses, especially her cosmetics, perfume and clothing line. She barely speaks about Timothee Chalamet, but she does indicate that they’re still together (obviously) and that she’s very happy. Kylie has grown on me so much, possibly because I expected so little from her. I always thought the Jenner girls would have been better off being raised by wolves, but Kylie has (oddly enough) turned into the most well-adjusted one of the whole KJ clan. The baby of the family is alright. Some highlights from Dazed:

She comes across as pretty normal, all things considered: “I think the reality is having the same friends that I’ve always had, my family’s obviously the same, and keeping my internal circle, (and) private life, the same has been the best thing for me. I don’t feel like it’s changed me. I’ve been able to remain the same. And I get that compliment, too. Sometimes when I meet new people, they’re always pleasantly surprised with how normal I am.”

A true Leo: “I think I’m a true Leo to the core. I’m very loyal, I loved being the centre of attention growing up. I wasn’t afraid of anything. I’m a social butterfly. I love to make people happy and laugh.” She says she’s a Scorpio moon and a Capricorn rising, “so I think the Capricorn is my work ethic and drive. And the Scorpio, it’s just the more fiery side of me.” But is there a sharpness, a sting in among the smiles and laughter? “In the best way.”

The first year of Kylie Cosmetics: “I didn’t have my Shopify account password, and I didn’t know how much money I was making. I knew it was very successful, I just didn’t…It really was not, and this is how I honestly feel, it was not about the money for me. It was really just a lane for me to be creative and make other people happy. About a year later, I [got] the password to our account, and I was like, ‘What is happening?!’”

All of her businesses: Kylie Cosmetics has expanded, launching Cosmic, its first fragrance, in a curvaceous bottle designed to fit snugly in the palm of your hand. Its successor, Cosmic 2.0, arrived in February this year. Then there’s Sprinter, her zero-added-sugar, fruit-infused canned vodka soda promising low calories and a high-quality kick. Last but not least, there’s Khy, an accessible fashion line embracing the drop model for its capsule collections and collaborations with emerging designers. “I just want to work with brands that have inspired me, that I have supported for a long time,” she says.

Whether she’s still a baddie: “That’s so funny, I’ve seen that before too, and I’m always like, first of all, the baddie never left. I wear a latex dress at least once a week. Like, where do you guys think the baddie went? People saw me in a flowy dress once in my life, and they were like, ‘She’s gone!’ I wore a sundress once in Palm Springs, you know – like, can a girl wear a sundress once?”

Delineating her personal from her professional life: “I am actually in the middle of figuring that out right now. My schedule has gotten really busy, and when I’m not working, I’m with the kids. Trying to carve out a moment for me is something that I honestly still struggle with.”

Ten years of Kylie Cosmetics: “I’m coming up on the 10th anniversary of Kylie Cosmetics, and I’ve been thinking about the beginning a lot. With the success of my brand and the influence, I just don’t think I knew…I don’t think I knew what I had when I had it. Looking back, I was so young and I had the world in my hands, and I still feel that way. I’m trying to live in the moment and appreciate all of the amazing blessings in my life instead of waiting 20 years and looking back.”

This is crazy? “I didn’t have my Shopify account password, and I didn’t know how much money I was making.” Then again, I remember that time – Kylie was still a teenager, she and Kris put the company together themselves, and it really was a smaller project initially. Kylie Cosmetics had growing pains, distribution issues and supply issues. But it all worked out in the end. I believe her when she says it wasn’t about the money for her initially too – she just wanted to make lip kits, she just loved makeup and being in the cosmetics world.

As for all of the “I’m still a baddie” – that’s about her styling or aesthetic these days. Many people track the Kardashian-Jenners’ aesthetics a lot closer than I do, but one of the things that I believe is that the KJ clan really does change the style culture and it’s connected to the political climate. As in, the “clean girl” minimalist aesthetic is connected to our current politics, just as Kylie’s femme-fatale/vamp era was connected to that particular time in the mid to late 2010s. As for Kylie’s Leo-ness… she honestly doesn’t come across as a typical Leo to me, but maybe she’s more Leo-ish in her private life.

I avoid the Kardashians as a rule, so I saw the headline and popped in to say … she loved being the center of attention? Shocked, shocked I am, to hear there’s attention-seeking going on in that family!! 😏😎

That said, I did read the article, because I’m a word addict, and it sounds like she’s less awful than what little I’ve seen of the rest of that family. If so, good for her.

I read somewhere that Timotheeee’s mom really likes her, so I debased myself by checking out her Instagram page. I wish I hadn’t. I am so, so tired of young women promoting themselves entirely through T&A — like, come on, ladies! We didn’t come this far for you to just sell an oversexualized version of yourself to beta males. It’s all 90’s Playboy stuff, so disappointing. And I do not believe for a second this is about a woman’s choice how to present her sexuality — this is marketing to the lowest common denominator, and it sets an eff-ed up example for other young women. “Want attention? Pour milk all over your DDDs and face and call it art!”

        @ClammanderJen

Oh good grief. Well, thank you for that, you kindly saved me from even peeking over the rim of that rabbit hole.

I hadn’t bothered to look at any of the photos posted here, and now I have, and yep. ugh. Same dead-eyed tits-out pose as the others.

Aaannd… I’m back to ignoring the Kardashians.

    LMAO, to quote Sheldon Cooper:

“Yes… it tells us that you participate in the mass cultural delusion that the sun’s apparent position relative to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality“

I see your Sheldon Cooper, and raise you the Dancin’ Fool, Frank Zappa:

Say darlin’, can I buy ya a drink?

I think when people talk about her “baddie” era, they are talking about when she was trying to look like a black woman. She is in her white girl era now. It doesn’t matter whether she is wearing latex or not, she isn’t playing a black woman now.

  4. Aimee says:

I don’t have anything nice to say so I’ll leave it at that.

I’m with you. I was going to leave a bitchy comment but declined. Nothing about her is real, including her “gained weight” body fillers.

  5. Serena says:

And let’s not forget how Khy is mid with sky high prices and she literally ripped off entire pieces from other small businesses -stylists.

    Kylie looks terrible
