People don’t remember this, but the Windsors’ beef with Netflix actually began before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a lucrative production deal with the streamer in 2020. The Windsors were wringing their tea towels like crazy over The Crown series, especially after the first two seasons. As soon as the cast transitioned over to Olivia Colman as the queen and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, the various royal courts (mostly Charles’s office) would not shut up about how Netflix is horrid and The Crown gets everything wrong all the time. Incidentally, Charles’s pressure campaign worked long-term, as the last two seasons were basically pro-Charles propaganda. The Windsors’ beef with Netflix was definitely taken to another level when the Sussexes signed their deal though, and for the past five years, we’ve heard over and over again that it’s tacky, unroyal, gauche and completely unacceptable to work for Netflix. Well, guess who’s working with Netflix? King Charles. Becky English’s original Daily Mail headline was: “King Charles teams up with Netflix for new documentary starring Idris Elba – after Prince Harry and Meghan’s £80billion mega-deal ‘flopped’.” Netflix paid Harry & Meghan 80 BILLION pounds? Damn.
His son’s offerings for the streaming giant have almost universally flopped. But that hasn’t stopped Netflix signing up another member of the Royal Family – none other than the King himself. The firm today announced a ‘major new partnership’ between King Charles and Hollywood star Idris Elba for a new documentary film exploring the impact of The King’s Trust as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
As a young man, Idris Elba was the beneficiary of a grant from the Trust, then known as The Prince’s Trust, which the actor openly says changed his life and enabled him to study acting. Idris will accompany The King as he offers ‘rare access and insights’ into his support for the Trust – which he set up in 1976 with his modest naval pension to change the lives of disadvantaged young people – over the past five decades.
At its heart will be the ‘compelling’ stories of some of the one million young people the charity has gone on to help around the world. The documentary begins filming next week and will launch on Netflix in Autumn 2026. It is produced by 22 Summers, a production company founded by Idris Elba and Diene Petterle. The director is the BAFTA award-winning Ashley Francis-Roy and boasts executive producers including Eva Omaghom, who previously worked for the king for many years including as his ‘diversity tzar’. The production team will include young people supported by the Trust to build experience in film and television.
Elba said: ‘The King’s Trust gave me an opportunity that changed my life. At a time when I didn’t have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support – including financial help – that helped me take those first steps to advance my career. Today, through the Elba Hope Foundation, I’m focused on creating those same opportunities for young people who are full of potential but lacking access. Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open. This documentary is about shining a light on what’s possible when it does — and why the work of The King’s Trust remains so important.’
The King will not give an interview to the documentary crew but will, it is understood, be filmed ‘in conversation’ with other participants. A Palace aide said: ‘The King is pleased for The Trust to have this wonderful opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience, sharing the compelling stories of some of the more than one million young people it has helped in Britain and internationally over the past 50 years.’
Harry and Meghan signed their own deal with Netflix back in 2020 when they acrimoniously left the royal family in pursuit of their fortunes in the US.
I’ve already seen some knives out for Idris, but let me just say… Idris has long been associated with the Prince’s Trust, now the King’s Trust. Idris has been an ambassador for years and years, and he genuinely believes in it, and believes that kids should have more scholarships and opportunities. Idris is working his own angle, and it’s an angle of “helping out young people.” Sure, he’s being used by Charles, and Idris knows that. But it is what it is.
As for the Netflix documentary… lmao. It’s just too funny. It shows that they know their dumb little royal propaganda documentaries aren’t getting the coverage or attention. Harry and Meghan are the blueprint, even for Charles and Camilla. As for all of this sh-t about the Sussexes “flopping” at Netflix… Netflix is literally in business with Meghan and As Ever. Netflix is MINTING money off of the Sussexes. Netflix has so much money, they’ll throw a fraction of it at Charles as they roll their eyes. I’ve already seen people saying sh-t like “oh, this will piss off Harry and Meghan!” Why would they be pissed off at Charles copying Harry in a really sad way?
BILLION??? Also, lmao pic.twitter.com/VvYkf7ApjF

All that moaning about harry’ and meghan’s netflix deal was pure jealousy.
💯 – This…jealousy and anger that they would not be crawling back on their knees.
In spite of what they continue to write they know that the Harry and Meghan documentary was extremely successful and changed a lot of minds about the whole saga.
On another note..the king’s Trust has done and continues to do wonderful work with young people.
They have a programme in my country and it is excellent.
William will never have the legacy his father has.
Yes it was definitely jealousy. It’s also interesting that the British press is not complaining about this documentary not being on a British broadcaster. I still remember the screaming and crying when Harry announced his mental health documentary was going to be on Apple tv.
THE ROOT OF ALL HATRED IS JEALOUSY 😍😍
Probably a good thing they’re doing this now… When William comes to the throne there will likely be no more King’s Trust…in more ways than one!
It makes sense that Idris would participate in something like this. The Prince’s Trust is what allowed him to get into acting in the first place.
This is true. Also true: I could watch Idris Elba read the dictionary and be fascinated.
Charles is pompous as always
And he can’t get his heir to work
Charles face definitely reflects his character.
When did Harry’s project with Netflix flop? He did his documentary and he did his polo project. Meg is doing her WLM and will probably get a season 3 so this flop nonsense is just pure horseshit. Jealous Chuckles has decided he suddenly needs Netflix after bullying them to change parts of The Crown? What a putz.
If that hideous woman Becky English just wrote a Fail article about Charles doing a documentary with Netflix, with no mention of Haz or Meg or the name Sussex anywhere, the traffic on that article would be almost zero. They all know that in order to get any clicks or traffic on their articles, even the most bilious bitter articles, would be to include the names Harry and Meghan Sussex.
Charles is a very sorry excuse of a parent. I really feel for prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and their children for being Charle’s son or daughter-in-law or grandchildren. I wouldn’t wish Charles’ treatment, that he has subjected his youngest son, DIL and his ginger grandbabies on any of my worst enemies. Charles is a despicable human.
Becky English saying the shows flopped despite them being the highest watched, especially the documentary, shows she is no different than that North Korean lady saying that Kim Jung Un is the best.
Idris Elba has been consistent in saying opportunities for kids from working class in the arts has been severely cut back by the UK government so he really does believe in the work of the Trust.
The Princes/Kings Trust is out there legitimately impacting people’s lives so I have no issue with this. This is what royalty can do if they choose (see also Duke of Edinburgh Awards). We don’t NEED a monarchy but if we have to fund one this is the sort of thing we should be getting back as a bare minimum.
What will the press say when this documentary flops? And after all this talk about Harry and Meghan bring Netflix cameras into the Palace it’s actually Charles who’s doing it. Where’s the outrage?
Eggs-actly.
Agree. This will flop because the larger audience is not interested in what goes on in the UK
After Harry’s wedding, he started having series of meetings with the Prince’s Trust. I remember the media saying it was because Charles plan was to hand it over to Harry when he becomes king. KC must really be disappointed in William’s work ethics. For William, it must have fueled more jealousy towards his younger brother. Charles trusting his legacy project as Prince of Wales, not to the next one but to his younger son.
I don’t think either of the sons wanted to take over the Prince’s Trust.
The late Princess Margaret’s son is charge of it I think.
I remember, there were some mumblings about shenanigans behind the scenes, like bags of cash scandal. I think, both Harry and Will were smart enough not to get dirtied by Charles’s imaginative dealings. God knows, if some other scandal broke, Charles and his media friends would put the blame on Harry or Will if they were in charge there even a minute.
I think people don’t get that businesses outside of the UK does not function like those in the UK whereby people need to kiss up to the establishment in order to keep doors open. The Sussexes have a business relationship with Netflix. Netflix will no make all their decisions based on the emotions of the Sussexes. As Meghan says, as a leader one should expect everyone to live you, but expect people to respect you. The Sussexes are respected by Netflix for what they contribute to the partnership. 🙌
Also regarding Idris, if I recall well, for H&M’s wedding, the connection for him to DJ at the reception was through his relationship with the Prince’s Trust that Harry reached out for him. I think Idris should be commended for pursuing opportunities to uplift his community leverage the establishment as much as he can. I support his efforts.
Finally, despite how Rebecca is trying to spin it with the headlines, this sounds like Idris’ project and Charles has agreed to participate (why not, it’s likely to be good PR for him).
Rebecca seems personally invested in maligning the Sussexes. I’ve seen quite a few of the unhinged headlines she has pushed recently. I can only assume that her name is one on the list of journalists in the Daily Mail case Harry is pursuing. The DM has maintained for decades that it did not participate in unlawful information gathering. We’ll see how the case goes pretty soon.
Exactly. This is IDRIS’s project and contract with Netflix, and Charles has agreed to participate in it as he and his aides are aware of the potential for global attention. It remains to be seen whether the palace will insist on having it edited to place the main focus on Charles instead of on the beneficiaries of the Trust.
Marina Hyde (who’s become weird about H and M, but has, otherwise, a good take on the media and RF), once said that when she was first starting out as a journalist and worked as secretary at one of the tabloids (can’t remember which one – they’re all the same), she was shocked to find out that these royal rota people actually believe they’re friends with royal family members.
That may also explain some of why Becky is such a bold-faced jerk – she thinks she’s defending her friends and that they like her for it.
Deludenoid!
Of course, she also knows that this is her only gig and she’s fighting to keep it.
Oh yeah, Rebecca English is in fact named in that upcoming court case with the DM. A lot of the people named are the ones in charge, owners and editors, but there are a some very specific journalists also named and she is one of them. The DM tried but failed to have the names protected and not made public but the court disagreed and so they were named in the court papers. The whole article is worth a read. The case should be coming up within the next 6-8 months or so.

Thanks @Jais for the link. I see her named indeed. Explains how unhinged she has become with her reporting on the Sussexes. I also see Alison Boshoff named. If I recall correctly, she has also written some ‘way out there’ columns on the Sussexes. Good journalism would disclose such conflicts but I think we’ve all concluded and come to terms with these ‘royal reporters’ not being good journalists and consequently poor journalism is what they deliver.
To be fair, it’ll be interesting to see if the case makes it to trial. It would be awesome if it did. It we’ll see. And even then, it’s a civil suit so all it would really do is reputational damage. Piers Morgan is still plugging along and hasn’t been charged for anything despite a judge saying he of course knew about the blagging when he was at the mirror. But if she has the backing of the RF then her position is secure even if past criminalities come to light. It might partly explain her willingness to repeat whatever KP tells her, to the point that she just happens to see William at the hospital visiting Kate during her random doctors appt. There’s a chance that she is just not a very honest or ethical person.
When I first heard about this I was confused bc I said wait Charles is getting Netflix money now. But it sounds like it’s Idris Elba’s production company that’s getting paid to make the doc. So good for him. It’s just funny bc the BM has turned Netflix into the bogeyman and now they gotta retool that narrative. I’m waiting to hear about how Ted Sarandos is going to secretly arrange meetings between Harry and father. Will Netflix be the new secret weapon?
Kate is so going to try to get her own show where she just wander around the woods, giggling and doing jazz hands.
“Me too! Me too!” So typical, so predictable. * gasp * “How unroyal.”
😂😂😂😂 They changed the headline. No more billions.
Those pictures with the pink flowers! Holy smokes.
Sticking your tongue out and saying “NYAHH” to your son that you don’t have the guts to meet. Aren’t you embarrassed?
Chucks jealousy is a sick disease at this point.. what a pathetic human being he is, wonder if he even realizes it. All that money, power and control and it still doesn’t matter because Chuck has no character or moral compass.
If my Netflix wasn’t free with my mobile service I would cancel, so instead I will just rewatch all of the Harry and Meghan’s completed projects when it’s released because I will never watch this show, truly disappointed in Netflix for this.
I’ll be sure to give this a pass and instead watch H&M’s shows on Netflix
Desperation strikes again! Poor Chuckles. His short reign will be defined by Not My King protests and his abysmal treatment of Harry & Meghan. Chuck is so pressed to define his legacy his own way, but his legacy is pettiness, racism, cruelty to his first wife, and abusive neglect of his sons. No glowing documentary propped up by a popular Black Brit is going to gloss over the rancid, self-serving existence that this small, horrible man has lived.
Good luck, Chuckles.
We see you.
I hope the focus is on the Prince’s Trust’s success stories, and for the sake of the beneficiaries I hope the documentary gets good views. Let’s not be petty and “hate watch” by not watching just because Charles is in it. The Trust is international and it has had very high profile “ambassadors” for a long time. It’s one of the good things Charles has done that truly benefits others. But too bad he lacks character of any kind and is eaten up by inadequacies, jealousy, and pettiness. Too bad he didn’t have the character to rise above his neglect like Harry. Too bad he didn’t have the character to value someone who would be a wonderful wife and partner like Harry. Too bad he never found a great love that will elevate him like Harry has.
I was skeptical about the project until I read the details of Edris Elba’s involvement with the Prince/King’s Trust. I believe in celebrating the things that bring about I positive change, I believe in gratitude and I believe in playing it forward. It sounds as if these are all elements of this project.
Lies are weeds in journalism. They thrive and proliferate until they choke out the truth. It seems no one will weed, prune, or work to eradicate lies because they are now the profit center. Because of this, American politics is what it is. #War
Has Becky Ringlish explain how she is defining flop. What is the metrics she is using to call the Sussex’s Netflix deal a flop.
Charity loses its virtue when it’s used to buy absolution. Idris is a DEI hire brought for 10K to absolve of the racism claim. We know the royal family accept black people as servants, just not family
You do that a point of view that has objective facts on its side. But there are other viable perspectives with as many facts.
I’m don’t know who Charles is buying absolution from? Who will he pay? Is the Catholic church still selling those? Do they sell them to Anglicans? I’m not sure.
While the Windsors seemed to have problems accepting a Bi-racial/Black
American as a member of their family it doesn’t seem to be the full story to that they only accept Black people as servants. Idris Elba is an accomplished actor, dj, and producer. I don’t imagine that anyone would call a white person with those accomplishments a ‘servant’.
Also, even if the Windsors/ChuckIII don’t accept a Bi-racial/Black woman as his daughter-in-law, history and political reality have forced them to accept them as Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ambassadors, Statesmen, etc.
It is possible that the Prince/King’s Trust is corrupt as other charities associated with the BRF it has like dung, nurtured and brought forth beautiful flowers. Idris Elbas being one flower and perhaps Elba Hope Foundation is an entire bouquet.
There remains a debate around the Rhodes Scholarship and Cecil Rhodes. Sure the Rhodes Scholarship keeps his name alive, but who is not aware that he is a White Supremacist Monster.
I don’t care who chuck money helped to get a start in their career. He is and will always be a pathetic evil man child and his demons are haunting him in real time. No amount of help from the trust will ever erase the evil he has done to his son , his son wife , his son children and Diana.
Idris desire to mule only reflects on him. Meghan’s experience in Britain did not impact my view of Charles. It did impact my view on William and Kate. Elaine Day’s account of her employment under the Prince of Wales ( Charles ) cemented my view of Charles.
What next we would have Nene Leakes says how Trump was nice to her…
