Quick poll: do most of the people you know use Apple or Samsung products? My circle is heavily tilted towards Apple (yours truly included), and I’m wondering if it’s geographic. One thing I admire about the few Samsung phone users I know is that they all have a deep and abiding love for bucking Apple’s prowess in the field. It’s a near existential conviction for them to hold out. As a contrarian who loathes being told what to do, I appreciate the sentiment. I just happen to like my iPhone!! Anyway, I’m assuming someone in England is an uber Android lover, because a truck was just stolen in London containing 12,000 new Samsung phones and watches, estimated to be worth around $9.6 million. So far local police have confirmed they found the missing container… but haven’t clarified whether the goods were still in said container.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 seem more popular than previous Galaxy foldables. Now, it looks like these Samsung phones may have been popular enough to steal en masse.
Yonhap News TV (h/t: FNN News) reports that a truck carrying 12,000 Galaxy phones was recently stolen near London Heathrow airport. This shipment included 5,000 Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 devices and 5,000 Galaxy Watch 8 models, along with older devices like the Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy A16 range.
It’s believed that the shipment was stolen after it was moved to a warehouse following its arrival at the airport.
The outlet reports that the cargo was worth 13.3 billion won (~$9.6 million), but that there was no actual loss as it was insured. British police apparently launched an investigation after the incident and found the container in question, but it’s unclear if any Samsung products were recovered.
Nevertheless, this might be a sign of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7’s initial popularity. Samsung previously reported that the Galaxy Z7 series broke pre-order records for Galaxy foldables in India, the US, and Korea.
Wow, the love of flip phones goes to show that everything old really is new again! My first cell phone that I got in my final years of high school was a flip, and I went straight from that to my iPhone in the middle of college. Anyway, I’m astounded once again by the brazen heists that have been going down in England as of late. How does a truckload of 12,000 Samsung products disappear so easily? (Or am I so lazy that I’m severely overestimating what’s involved in such a feat?) So for those of us keeping track, it’s still less than a year since thieves absconded with 22 tons of cheddar cheese wheels and yet more thieves (or the same group, we don’t know!) stole a delivery truck with 2,500 savory Christmas pies. And of course earlier this summer there was the jewelry thief who pinched 260 pieces worth about $170,000 from the store she used to manage, though she did that over time instead of all at once. (She also notably was caught after taking selfies… wearing the stolen goods.) My point is, I’m not saying crime is running rampant under King Charles III; I’m just pointing out the congruent facts that these wild heists are happening, and Charles is king right now.
I am an Android user. The one time I considered an iPhone, I had friends who took it upon themselves to “sell” me on Apple. What actually happened was a bunch of grown ass dudes telling me how i MUST get Apple because its superior in every way (to this day, I’m not sure how, they didnt explain details). How my life would change. How i would suddenly become more attractive to everyone… Etc.
It sounded like i was talking to a bunch of unhinged Trump supporters.
I turned and ran back to Android.
My first cell phone was that Nokia brick (the 3310) so there was no Android vs Apple to begin with haha. That said, my first smartphone was an Android and I’ve stuck with it ever since, though I have switched from Samsung to Google.
I miss the Nokia brick. That phone was indestructible. I think I still have it in a box somewhere!! When I moved to smartphones I initially had an iPhone (through work), but now I have a Google Pixel as well. I prefer Android, honestly. I’d love to get one of those Samsung flip phones but they’re a bit too pricey for my budget.
I had the Nokia 5110 that had interchangeable face plates. You could even design your own in MS Paint! Lol I am an Android user. Me and iOS don’t get along. Plus all the Apple proprietary stuff turned me off. I have a Samsung now. It’s not my favorite, but it’s paid off and one of the last phones with a micro SD slot, so I will use it until it dies.
Samsung’s flip phone is really cool. It opens up to a larger screen as opposed to an old timey flip phone. When I upgraded my Samsung 5 years ago, I looked at that phone but didn’t feel comfortable with the idea of that type.
Yes, I bought my latest Samsung FIVE years ago and it is wonderful. The iPhone battery life is awful, they way they die so quickly. My daughter is n her second iPhone to this one Samsung.
I have both right now. A giant Samsung fold that someone will have to pry from my cold, dead hands, and an iPhone that pairs with my Apple Watch. The Apple Watch is a husband’s thing; he’s not a creepy control freak. It’s more about the emergency call feature, which I can use if I ever need to hit the panic button.
That said, every time we went to Europe, the Caribbean, or anywhere else, my Samsung phone always had internet, and the hotspot worked too. His iPhone could barely manage to download an email, let alone send one out. That’s maaaybe better now? We haven’t traveled in a minute—all thanks to the monstrous Mandarin Menace. Puke.
I have a Garmin watch with the emergency call feature, and it links to my partner’s Android as well as mine … in case you’ve ever had enough of having two phones 🙂
I’m an Apple girl but I have always loved a good flip phone and I love that they’ve made a come back thou rumour is that Apple has there own flip version in the works due to be released next year.
