Amanda Seyfried and Julia Roberts share the same stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, and are in Venice premiering their separate films. On Friday, Julia attended a photocall for After The Hunt in a brown and yellow-striped Versace blouse paired with a slouchy navy blazer and high-waisted jeans. According to CNN this was designed by Versace’s new creative director, Dario Vitale. Seyfried commented on Stewart’s post of Roberts’s look “please let me wear the same outfit,” although at some point comments on the post were turned off.
On Monday, Seyfried wore Julia’s outfit to a photocall for her film, The Testament of Ann Lee. It’s quite possible this is the same set of clothing. Over on RedCarpet-Fashion Awards they point out that the look is tailored to Roberts, not Seyfried. I have to nitpick over the fact that Seyfried’s hair is stuck under her blouse. That was likely deliberate but it makes it look like she just slipped the blouse over her head 10 minutes ago. So who wore it best? As much as it pains me to say it, I vote for Julia Roberts. This is a “ladies who lunch” look and it’s more suited to Roberts than Seyfried. That could definitely be due to the tailoring though. It’s also very Duchess Meghan-coded. Meghan loves a nice striped blouse and oversized blazer. After watching season two of With Love, Meghan, I’ve been eyeing Land’s End’s striped blouses and wondering whether I can make this style work. It’s not quite me, I’ve decided, and that’s the vibe I’m getting from Seyfried too.
Seyfried is getting rave reviews for The Testament of Ann Lee, in which she plays one of the founders of the Shaker religious movement. It’s directed and co-written by Mona Fastvold, who co-wrote The Brutalist with her partner, Brady Corbet. The film got an over 15 minute standing ovation in Venice and currently has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Seyfried will probably get an Oscar nomination for this, but will she finally win one? Here’s hoping.
At the premiere Seyfried wore a navy blue strapless Prada gown with a giant red bow down the bodice. This looks fussy to me and I’m not fond of her styling, but it may be a nod to her charater. The buttons going down the front slit of the gown are a neat touch. I will watch the hell out of this film, but like The Brutalist it’s over two hours long so I’m definitely waiting until it’s on streaming. Two hours is my cutoff for films at the theater.

I vote Seyfried! Love how it looks more casual.
It may have been tailored for Julia, but I prefer the slouchy, longer pant length as worn by Amanda. There’s something awkward to me about the shorter hem and the tops of Julia’s feet showing. It breaks up the line of the pants.
The outfit is cute on both of them. It does feel Meghan coded, especially with the sleeves Rolle dup. I don’t love the color scheme of the striped shirt. The color vibe of the yellow brown and white stripes feels a little 70’s retro, which is cool, but isn’t my favorite color story. Still cute though.
Both look great – I would hate the feeling of my hair tucked in to my shirt, but I think it looks really cool and casual somehow on Amanda! This outfit repeat moment seems like a win for both women – Julia gets to look gracious and magnanimous, Amanda gets to look stylish and appreciative, and both of them together get to have their photos make more headlines than any individual shot. Seems smart!
That’s hilarious. It’s a fine outfit but funny that she was frothing after it. And wore it so soon afterwards!
With the tight, scraped back hair and the awkward shoulders I thought that was Scarlett Johansson in the blue gown. Good gown but awful styling imho (says the girl sitting on the couch in her sweatpants)
Odd to purposely wear the same outfit to the same event. Julia looks a little better because of the pants. They look big on Amanda and not in a fashion way.
I prefer it on Amanda, too. The oversized slouch adds a bit of panache.
+1
They both look great and what a clever way to do some cross-marketing.
They both look great but I prefer it on Amanda. Her Prada dress is fine but I I wonder if that wasn’t a second choice because it’s not her typical style.
