Over the weekend, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau were out in Paris together, roughly three months after their “first date” in Montreal over the summer. Their outing to the Crazy Horse in Paris was the first time Katy and Justin really got photographed by the paparazzi in a regular celebrity way. As such, we’re now being told that their romance is heating up. My vibe this whole time is that Justin is actually pursuing Katy and she’s like “sure, whatever, this is fine” about the relationship. Like, she’s not going out of her way for Trudeau, he’s the one bending over backwards to chase her around. It’s an ego boost for Katy, I’m sure. Well, People’s sources pretty much confirmed all of my assumptions.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s romance is heating up. After the pair made their first public appearance as a couple on Saturday, Oct. 25, a Perry source tells PEOPLE that the pop star, 41, is “flattered” by the former politician’s attempt to spend time with her while she’s in the midst of her Lifetimes World Tour through December.

“She’s focused on her tour, and Justin has made a real effort to meet her where she is — literally,” the Perry source says. “She’s flattered. He’s shown that he’s committed and really cares about spending time with her. It’s clear that he values the connection, and so does Katy. She’s in a great place.”

The couple initially sparked romance rumors in July and, earlier in October, were spotted kissing on a yacht near Santa Barbara.

“Dating Justin is something she never saw coming, but she’s really enjoying this surprising life twist,” the Perry source adds of the former Canadian prime minister, 53, who flew to Paris to celebrate Perry’s birthday on Oct. 25 — “and she loved it.”

A second source close to Perry noted that the couple are making time for their budding relationship despite their active lives.

“They both have busy schedules but make time for each other and have a really strong connection,” the second source says. “Katy didn’t expect to fall for somebody so soon, but Justin checks all the boxes. He has a great sense of humor, he’s charming and treats her with respect.”

This is just a personal thing for me but I hate when people say “he/she checks all the boxes.” So many unhappy marriages are built on people treating love like a to-do list, or that someone who is “good on paper” is going to be great in real life. It does not surprise me that Katy thinks that way though – she had a similar energy towards Orlando Bloom, who really pursued her as well. Orly checked a lot of boxes for Katy too and look how that mess turned out. Anyway, it’s very funny that “sources close to Katy” are making sure everyone knows that Trudeau is chasing her around Europe. What an ego boost.
