Prince Harry choked up as he described the Mail making Meghan’s life a ‘misery’

Prince Harry and his co-plaintiffs’ trial against The Mail/ANL is not going the way people expected. It’s not bad news for Harry at all – it actually looks like ANL is trying and failing at a strategy of centering Harry in the lawsuit and trying to smear him in open court. That didn’t work on Wednesday, because Harry took the stand and combated ANL’s lies in his voice. ANL tried to pull a fast one by giving an abbreviated opening statement on Tuesday then demanding that Harry be called to the stand one day early. There was also an understanding that ANL’s cross-examination of Harry was supposed to last a full day, maybe two days. Instead, ANL’s lawyer only cross-examined Harry for about two hours, and they didn’t even ask him about the majority of the articles cited in his lawsuit. After that cross-examination, Harry’s lawyer David Sherborne asked him questions and Harry spoke about the toll this lawsuit has taken on him and on Meghan. He correctly stated that after he first sued ANL in 2019, the Mail went all-in with the degrading, racist, cruel, dehumanizing “reporting” about him and Meghan. From the Royalist Substack, who was in the courtroom:

Prince Harry’s day in the witness box began unsteadily. Associated Newspapers brought forward his evidence by a day after taking less time than expected to outline their case, a move that appeared to unsettle him. From the outset, he was defensive and combative, repeatedly bristling under questioning from ANL’s barrister, Antony White KC. The judge intervened several times to urge Harry to remain calm and not to argue with counsel.

White focused heavily on Harry’s 13-page witness statement, released publicly as he was sworn in. Early in the questioning, White asked why Harry had not complained about the articles at the time they were published. Harry replied that he was constrained by his position within the royal institution, citing the maxim “never complain, never explain.”

The morning session did little to improve Harry’s composure. He snapped at suggestions put to him, took offence easily, and at one point conceded that he was upset. Tensions rose further when White suggested Harry had a “good relationship” with Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English. Harry openly scoffed, showing visible contempt, particularly when discussing an article she wrote claiming he and Prince William had held emotional discussions over Italian media publishing photographs of Princess Diana shortly before her death. He described the claim as “really disgusting”.

Harry also repeatedly referred to Associated Newspapers as “creepy” in relation to their reporting on his former girlfriend, Chelsy Davy.

A significant strand of his case centres on the credibility of royal reporters, particularly Katie Nicholl, now royal editor of Vanity Fair. Harry strongly rejected any suggestion that he was friendly with Nicholl, telling the court she was not part of his social circle and merely appeared at events attended by his friends. When White suggested Nicholl had obtained information legitimately from a source speaking on the record, Harry became embroiled in a tense exchange with the judge, who cautioned him against trying to argue his entire case from the witness box and reminded him that his lawyers, not he, would make the legal arguments.

After the lunch adjournment, Harry appeared calmer and more controlled. The afternoon session focused largely on timelines, with White seeking to establish that Harry had sufficient knowledge years ago to bring complaints earlier, raising potential limitation issues. Harry responded that, given the “institution” he was then part of, complaining would not have been “acceptable, or even an option”.

There was also discussion of an email Harry sent after a wedding planner connected to his 2018 marriage was burgled, in which he said he could “guarantee” the incident was linked to the Sun or the Daily Mail. White suggested this showed Harry believed unlawful activity was taking place at the time, but Harry made it clear it was a flippant remark and the blow did not land. White’s cross-examination then ended abruptly.

Harry’s barrister, David Sherborne, began his re-examination by returning to the roles of Katie Nicholl and Rebecca English, underlining Harry’s case that they were central figures in the alleged wrongdoing. Harry at one stage said: “If Ms Nicholl’s contacts (with my friends) were so good, why did she have to rely on Unlawful Information Gathering?”

Asked how the experience made him feel, Harry said it was “not great”, describing it as “a repeat of the past, a recurring and traumatic experience.” He said his life had been commercialised since he was a teenager and that he had never believed it should be treated as “open season.”

The emotional climax came when Harry was asked how he felt about Associated Newspapers’ conduct during the litigation. He said matters had “got worse, not better”, adding that all he had sought was an apology and accountability. He described the process as “a horrible experience” and said that by taking a stand in court, the media had continued to target him, making his wife’s life “an absolute misery.” As he spoke the word “misery”, his voice cracked and he lowered his head. Sherborne then told the court he had no further questions.

A spokesman for Prince Harry said: “Today’s cross-examination was revealing in its weakness: assertive in tone, but collapsing immediately under scrutiny from Prince Harry. Associated couldn’t wait to get him off the stand, questioning him for just 2 hours and avoiding 10 of his 14 articles entirely.” Prince Harry said afterwards, “Today we reminded the Mail Group who is on trial and why.”

[From The Royalist Substack]

What’s increasingly hard to believe is… how is ANL going to stretch this out for another eight or nine weeks? That’s how long the trial was supposed to be, only after six-plus years, it looks like ANL is largely capitulating. Is this all they have? “Why didn’t you hang out with Katie Nicholl in 2006??” Did they expect Harry to clam up and not fight back when they tried to push lies about how he was super-tight with Becky English and Katie Nicholl? The British live-blogs of Harry’s testimony were all clutching their pearls as well, like, oh, the judge had to tell Harry to stop arguing with the ANL lawyer! It was cracking me up – that ginger prince wasn’t going to let those snide asides and sneaky lies slip by. And after all of that, he walked out of court with his shoulders back, his head held high and his Freedom Strut intact. His mother would be so proud of him.

  1. Margaret says:

All Harry had to do during his testimony was not say anything to blow up his case and he did that. His lawyers have compiled piles of evidence for the judge and he will make his final verdict based on that. ANL seem to have a very weak defence TBH!

    • Beth says:

Psycho Sykes is such a drama queen. The judge only gently reminded Harry that his counsel would set out his case in the coming weeks and that he didn’t need to do it himself, so no need to feel pressured (Harry said that he was trying to give context and explain what it felt like for him). Reliable outlets describe Harry as ‘unfailingly polite’.

      • Jais says:

Okay, it’s funny to me that Sykes is in the courtroom. Obsessed much. How early is he getting up to go and claim a seat, jeez. And his take is wrong. Here’s a fantastic video in which a media lawyer describes Harry as extremely intelligent, articulate and genuine on the stand. So much so that they ended questioning in 2 hours.
        https://x.com/zandisussex/status/2014139271075004921?s=46

      • Me at home says:

Sykes is bothered and upset that Harry is doing so well, and I love this for him.

      • QuiteContrary says:

Thanks for that link, jais. And yes, the media lawyer is so right — the ANL lawyer recognized that Harry was damaging their case and got him off the stand as quickly as possible.

They keep underestimating Harry to their peril.

    • Elly says:

@Jais thank you for the link. I used to follow Zandi when I was on X and she’s great. I had to get off X because I was getting too upset with it but I miss some of the people I followed. I agree with the media lawyer that the tabloids underestimate Harry’s intelligence. The rats believe their own lies.

  2. Al says:

From all accounts, Harry did a great job. It seems like the Mail’s case is very weak. I wonder what their end game is? When Harry said that the Mail made Meghan’s life miserable, I thought about the miscarriage. It wasn’t just the Daily Mail, it was also the other papers in the UK, the evil rota group and the evil royal family who encouraged them to go after Meghan. I’m so glad she got away from that evil lot.

    • Tessa says:

If Charles had any sense he would call off the b o t s now

      • Al says:

Their whole motive is to destroy Meghan so that she wouldn’t be marketable. Also, as long as there’s money to be made in the process, the smear campaign will continue.

      • kirk says:

Of course the smear campaign against Meghan will continue because there is money to be made in the process. Although I avoid DailyFail (DF) and its fetid cousins (SundayFail, FailOnline, etc) it appears this type of purple prose smut is preferred in UK since Fail is the “most widely read in UK” per court reporters, and has highest paid circulation #s reported to Audit Bureau of Circulations. Advertisers are attracted to higher circulation #s by paying customers, and Fail delivers the type of “news” UK people prefer to see.

  3. Tessa says:

When will harry return home. I hope he wins big. And how come other royals like scooter and keen get to complain.

    • HeatherC says:

Because they do it through “sources close to them” while Harry does it with his whole chest “This is coming straight from me and you will hear me.” Being brought up with the “never complain, never explain” BS while your life is open season must have been so traumatizing.

  4. Jais says:

Oh yeah there’s a reason he was only questioned for 2 hours rather than the full day. ANL lawyers saw how well he was doing and realized it’d be more damaging for them to keep questioning him. They were scared to question him further bc it was making their case look weak as hell.

    • Amy Bee says:

      Most definitely.

    • lady digby says:

Agreed @ Jais if Harry had been damaging his own case they would have extended the questioning not cut it short after a mere two hours. Loved him demolishing the notion that Rebecca English was part of his social circle. He made it crystal clear that he mereLy TOLERATED royal rota and that NONE of him were his friends.

    • Becks1 says:

I agree. they think they’ll have better luck with another plaintiff. But my guess is that they’re all well prepared.

it’s clear the lawyer thought the Becky English and Katie Nicholl line of questioning was going to be some sort of “gotcha” – oh look you were emailing Becky English! Oh look you were hanging out with Katie Nicholl! when there were perfectly valid non-friend related reasons for those things (and note for KN – showing up where the royals are hanging out does not make you part of their circle.)

I do think there is some fear from the palace, especially KP, because one big defense that ANL DOES have is that they werent engaging in UIG, they were being fed information by some of staff at the palace (or William and Kate themselves.) ANL doesn’t seem to want to cross that line but I imagine they also dont want to lose soooo……

  5. Emm1 says:

Our warrior prince took no prisoners today when questioned by the ANL/Mail lawyer.

ANL’S court strategy is crumbling before our eyes. I sincerely hope Elton John and the other defendants give as good as Harry!

  6. lady digby says:

At the start the trial victims , Harry yesterday and Liz Hurley today , are giving IMPACT statements about the disastrous affect such press intrusive had on them . Then the bulk of the trail will be a contest between the lawyers about how each sample article was SOURCED. Elton John wants to know how the Fail obtained his son’s birth certificate before he did the actual parent?! Sorry the source of that disclosure can’t be a chatty fiend can it? How would a chatty friend of Harry’s know what assumed name he used to book flights and his seat details?! ANL want to claim legitimate sources such as chatty friends but there is a limit to how much detail even a friend will know, isn’t there?

    • Mightymolly says:

If the birth certificate theft involved hospital or civil staff taking a bribe, they should be called on it too. I know this is a lawsuit not a criminal trial, but that’s absolutely criminal.

    • Elly says:

@ladydigby Maybe a chatty “friend” was paid to find out Harry’s flight details by ANL/Mail.

      • kirk says:

When was the last time you told any of your chatty “friends” the seat details of your flight? Even if somebody is picking you up at the airport, don’t you usually just tell them the ETA and airline?

      • Magdalena says:

Harry’s lawyer has an e-mail chain between two Daily Mail reporters and at least one investigator where they make it clear that they have offered money to airport staff to look up the details. That’s how they knew Chelsy’s seat number, for example, and they were discussing “planting someone next to her” – presumably to take note of what she did and what she said to the crew and what she ate and who picked her up so that they could write about that. And also to strike up a conversation with her and then write about it as though they were friends. Harry called it creepy for a reason.

Daily Mail reporters are known to turn up at parties and funerals of complete strangers and strike up conversations, then write articles stating that someone “told the Daily Mail” this or that, to the astonishment of the people who were there in the room and had no idea they were talking to a reporter, because said reporters tend to pose as friends or family members. They are utterly shameless.

There was a story about a woman whose child had died in terrible circumstances and whose mother had made it clear that she did NOT wish to talk to the media. A daily Mail reporter turned up on her doorstep with a little girl in tow (and I think a teddy bear, if I recall correctly), claiming to have been so moved by her story and wanted to commiserate because her daughter was the same age. She then spent hours talking to the woman and went and wrote an article proclaiming an “Exclusive first interview” with the bereaved woman, who was utterly shocked by the venality of the female. The little girl was not the reporter’s daughter – I don’t think they had any relation at all.

  7. Jan says:

The lawyer trying to claim that Harry met big back Becky in Ibiza, for Harry to correct him, saying the first time he went to Ibiza was with Meghan and Archie.
For years Katie Nichols claimed she was friends with Harry and Cain, only to find out she was a groupie hanging out at parties they attended.

    • Amy Bee says:

It wasn’t Becky it was Charlotte Griffiths who said she met him in Ibiza. In the last few month Charlotte Griffiths has been incinuating that she communicates with Harry’s team. Considering that she’s now been proven to be a liar, I think it’s safe to say that Harry has not been the source for her recent stories and that she has been making some of them up.

    • Beth says:

That was Charlotte Griffiths, not RE. The delusional nitwit who also thought a ‘Mr Mischief’ she was apparently communicating with on Facebook back then was Harry (who was clear he’d never used that name, lol!). And do they REALLY think royal family members who are polite to them (because they have to be) are their friends? 😅🤣😂

      • Ginger says:

The derangers are really clinging to that ‘Mister Mischief’ thing lol I think it would be pretty easy to find out if it was Harry ( they could have traced it) Harry was under oath when asked about it so no reason to lie. Their defense is very weak.

      • Queen Anna Royal Gossip says:

Look at Arthur Edwards. I have NEVER seen a man bang on about being made a cup of tea by Harry like he has. He REALLY thought that Harry making him a cup of tea meant they were pals. He absolutely cannot understand that Harry was just being nice and that he hates all of them.

      • Nerd says:

The thing about her thinking that he used that name is that it shows that she definitely wasn’t close enough to him that his communication with her didn’t require an assumed name on Facebook instead of him just reaching out to her privately in person. Friendships don’t require a secretive communication under an assumed name. And she would have no way of knowing if it was genuinely him or someone pretending to be him like a staffer at KP or even William, for that matter. That’s not how friendships work.

    • Nerd says:

It was clear that Katie Nichols was lying about “friend” sources when Harry made it clear (in their documentary and his book) that he had never even heard of Meghan or seen her on Suits before they started dating. Katie is the one from the start who claimed that she was told about their relationship from a friend of his who said that he fancied her on Suits before he met her and he had said that she would be his ideal partner. We found out that Katie’s story was a complete lie. I honestly have wondered for years if Katie got her information from William and part of it is from his own fascination with Meghan on Suits. Similar to how Kate changed the story about her making Meghan cry to the lie that Meghan made her cry.

      • kelleybelle says:

I saw her lie about that on-camera, and you could tell she was lying through her teeth. What a horrid woman.

      • Magdalena says:

That was such a blatant and unnecessary lie that I am surprised she continued to gain employment as a royal expert after that. And at Vanity Fair, no less.

  8. heygingersnaps says:

I couldn’t even finish that drivel written by the royalist substack. Whoever the writer is clearly shows their bias towards the daily fail/anl scum.

    • Magdalena says:

Yes. The BBC in-court reporter lady is very good. BUT the man who is credited as “Editor” has been adding “emotions” ascribed to Harry, which were NOT in her original reporting. For example, he claimed that Harry’s response to his lawyer regarding how he was addressed was “blunt”, but the lady did nto say that. They are so biased in their reporting, these British media, even the BBC is on the negative narrative bandwagon. The lady is good, she doesn’t need an “editor” to slant her reporting, which is what is happening. It’s interesting, because the first few reports had come straight from her, and were all relatively factual and straightforward. Then all of a sudden, the reporting took a different tone, and we see that there is this new “editor”.

      • Smart&Messy says:

I followed that reporting too and you are absolutely correct. I will never understand adult professionals and an institution like the bbc sucking up to the royals like they do.

      • Jais says:

Yeah, I clocked that too. Imogen James was doing really good coverage for the bbc live blog. The guy was adding his own opinion and it was pretty obviously biased. Unprofessional.

      • sunniside up says:

I’m old enough to remember Robert Dougall and Richard Baker reporting the news, deadpan, no emotion, I also remember the BBC saying later that they would allow their newsreaders to show some emotion, I thought that is the end of unbiased news. It has gone downhill ever since.

      • Unblinkered says:

@SunnisideUp – we’re of a similar vintage as I remember those two great newscasters too, and that’s absolutely how the news should still be read.

Although I liked her, for me it was Angela Rippon who started the almost light-hearted tone of voice regardless of how serious or how terrible the bulletin was. Unbiased news reporting is now a rare thing in the UK, perhaps Sky comes closest.

  9. Amy Bee says:

I thought the funniest part was ANL’s assertion that Harry was friends with Becky English, Katie Nicholl and Charlotte Griffiths and the creepiest part was the story about another journalist turning up at one of his trips to Africa. You can understand the journalists reaction to his 2019 statement and his decision to leave the UK now. These people deluded themselves into believing that Harry was their friend and were truly hurt by his statement and him leaving.

    • lady digby says:

But, but one of the journalist protested via ANL Green that Harry’s private sectary had put 2 phone calls from H to her so they were TOTALLY BEST FRIENDS. Harry explained that these 2 occassions were him thanking the journalist for correcting a story and also on a separate occassion to express sympathy over an unspecified sad episode in journalist life.

    • Jay says:

I loved his comeback to that as printed here: “If Ms Nicholl’s contacts (with my friends) were so good, why did she have to rely on Unlawful Information Gathering?” Exactly! If these reporters really knew Harry and were all part of his inner circle, they wouldn’t need to hire lowlifes to hack his phone or dig up personal details. That’s stalker behaviour. The truth hurts.

      • Nerd says:

They also wouldn’t have to go through his “friends” if he genuinely had a good relationship with them. A truly good relationship wouldn’t require them needing to go through a fake Facebook account, “friends”, “sources” or staff. They would have gone directly to him without needing to use any middleman or woman. That’s how we know it has always been a lie. That’s why Angela Levin has lost her mind in thinking she really knew him, because he forcibly gave her a fifteen minute interview that she had and created a fictitious relationship from.

  10. Magdalena says:

That Katie Nicholl fantasist was a rampant stalker of Harry for ages back in the day. She actually boasted it once, saying that she used to hang about outside clubs, restaurants and parties at which the prince and his friends were, and claimed that Harry once saw her standing out there in the cold and said “You’re freezing!”. And based on that she created a friendship in her head. These reporters really believe that just because someone is courteous to them then that person really and truly cares and that that makes them best buddies. It makes you understand why they lashed out so hard and to this day, STILL act like jilted lovers (see Kate) – both the women AND men on the “royal beat”. Harry never did a better thing than refuse to let them go near Meghan. They can’t dine out for decades on the fact that they “once met her for tea or a one-to-one meeting” or any of the things they have written about Diana… and Kate.

    • Brit says:

This and they thought Meghan would be pressured into giving access because they were torturing her. Harry and Meghan living their lives away from England and not returning cost that press money. They wanted to eat off them for years to come and would go after their children. These people are nothing but entitled clout chasers.

    • Lissen says:

      Agreed. 100%.
For these class conscious evil tools, Harry saying, in a court of law, that he was never friends with any of these journalists, would have cut to the quick. I hope they choke on it forever.

      • Jais says:

Oh same. Hope these class conscious fools choke on it forever and feel humiliated beyond belief. Imagine not just thinking it but publicly claiming in court that you were part of Harry’s social circle or a friend. Omfg. That’s embarrassing. Especially considering the fact that they are actually psycho stalkers committing unlawful acts and terrorizing this man’s wife and children.

      • Nerd says:

Yes, imagine thinking that you are somehow friends with someone and they would be okay with you writing horrible and hateful articles about them and their wife and kids. There is a sickness with these people to think any of that makes sense.

    • Smart&Messy says:

I’m sure none of them has dined out with Kate because that woman is as simple as a whistle and the brf and Ma cannot let these people know. I think it’s Ma who nortures these relationships on Kate’s behalf.

      • Magdalena says:

Actually, some of the royal reporters have spoken and written about “being introduced to Kate” and “having tea” with Kate. On one of the occasions, George was there. I think the Cameltoe woman who linked the Grenfell cookbook to terrorism was one of them. And given that she has interviewed Carole Middleton, it’s a safe bet to say that they have met Kate on more than one occasion.

Remember: just as with Trump and a contingent of the US media, Kate and William say a LOT of nonsense and the UK media sanitise it to make it sound sensible. They’ve formed whole sentences out of a few Uhms and Ahms. It would have been enough for them to have met her (at those press parties they claimed never happened) for them to begin creating various narratives about how gracious and princess-like she is and keep regurgitating these talking points ad nauseam.

      • Nerd says:

Magdalena it was Cameltoe who first wrote the lie that Meghan made Kate cry shortly after she interviewed Ma Middleton, so she definitely has a relationship with Carole and Kate.

There was even a reporter who on air admitted that during Kate’s year of missing that she was in contact with them and that the farmer’s market photos were planned in response to social media discussions. So Kate has talks with the media, without a doubt.

    • Not a subject says:

Katie Nicolls once wrote that she crawled in through a bathroom window to get into a party/club where Harry & his friends were (she’d been turned away at door). Google the article – it’s there in her own words.

  11. Brit says:

It’s just really disgusting and very obvious from the beginning they were going after her to get to Harry. They wanted to punish him by robbing him of his happiness. I respect this couple a lot because they really had the odds stacked against them. They really believe they own Harry. It’s actually sickening.

  12. It was hard on Harry to go through this but he got through it and he did it with grace and dignity something the defendants have no clue about!! I hope he wins this case and it does appear that the defense is sorely lacking!

  13. Brassy Rebel says:

I made the mistake of reading the first few comments on the People magazine account of Harry becoming emotional. Just vile. Is William still employing bots?

    • Tessa says:

I stopped buying people ages ago.
One of my best decisions ever. Harry should show emotion. Scooter imo still has bots.

    • Beth says:

People mag’s moderation is a complete failure and the comments section is heading the same way as the Fail’s. I’ve complained often that their own community guidelines aren’t being upheld, but they simply deactivate me and refuse to explain properly via email.

    • Becks1 says:

Yes, so many KP bots. you can spot them because you’ll see the same comment multiple times across multiple stories.

    • Yes People’s comment section on any article about the Sussexes is very negative. I’m sure Peg the lazy’s budget for bots is huge!! Peg the bot King!!

    • Barb Mill says:

People magazine is the worst for comments. I stopped reading it awhile ago. I will read the article just to see how they are reporting it but I can’t read the comments. It’s always the same old comment no matter what is being reported. Just proof that most of it is bots.

    • Elly says:

Harry is able to express normal emotions. He’s not upset for himself he’s upset for Meghan. I admire him for that and I agree that people who criticize him for it are ignorant and vile.

    • Beverley says:

People Magazine has become utterly unreadable. Where do they find these royalist staff? You’d think we were a Commonwealth nation for all its sycophantic “journalism” and embiggening of WanK. We aren’t British taxpayers who have to be convinced that our hard earned money is going towards smart, diligent, industrious Peg and his incredible wife who are working tirelessly for our country. It’s become so tiresome!

  14. Over it says:

I was listening to a Harry and Meghan supporting YouTube channel recently and before Harry corrected the lie that he And becky were not friends and never have been , the host I think got confused because he saw Harry and Becky in a picture together at a polo event . However I have always believed that Harry only took a picture with that piece of trash because he was probably asked to by the palace . I have always believed that Harry was made to play nice with these people because what choice did he have back then? Then he met the love of his life and he saw how these people were hell bent on destroying her And him but especially her and I think that’s when he finally said no more . I couldn’t be prouder of any man . Harry really shows how a prince , a man , a father and a husband should love his wife and children but especially the love he has for Meghan , makes me know that Harry really is that Prince Charming that those fairy tales wrote about. What a man. . I could only imagine how much seeing his wife hurt because of these vicious vampires, hurts him and I am so glad he is standing ten toes down in not letting them get away with this cruelty anymore

    • Ginger says:

Becky used that photo in her love letter to Harry when he left the UK. It’s clearly a photo Becky asked Harry for. These people were work acquaintances, nothing more.

    • Square2 says:

I think the turning point was when Elton told Harry to hire their (H&M) own attorney, stop depending on the lawyers for KP/BRF. The Sussex got the control of their decisions back, not 100% shackled by the Palaces. The first result was the press release announcing Meghan’s suing The Daily Fail near the end of their Southern Africa tour. Some months after that H&M packed up Archie & the dogs, went on an early Winter/Christmas vacation (at Vancouver Island), and the rest we all knew now.

Those RR & Royal photographers mistook Harry’s politeness and down to earth attitude as being friend. Just like that woman who interviewed Harry for 15 minutes, now claim to be Harry expert. Just like some bloggers & Social Media personalities stated they knew Meghan when in reality, they just attended the same functions/dinners/parties. The word “acquaintance” exists for a reason.

Very glad to see how Harry grew since meeting Meghan. That’s a real man.

    • Elly says:

      @over it 💯

  15. Jay says:

I don’t think it hurts Harry’s credibility one bit when he showed frustration at the ANL lawyer – it humanizes him and the real harm these illegal tactics have done. This is a man who is fighting to protect his family (Meghan, Lili, and Archie) and do what’s morally right.

I also think it’s good pr – people loved the image of the feisty, strong-willed, slightly rebellious prince.

    • Hypocrisy says:

He was being asked questions that were based on repeated lies about him so correcting the ANL attorneys seems to have been greatly needed to set the facts straight. I bet this trial doesn’t last six weeks.

  16. YankeeDoodles says:

I mean, the essence of this case to me has always been, why do these harpies get to rip apart a woman who marries into this family like a gaggle of sadistic gatekeepers? This was a new one to me about this particular culture, the British cult of US and THEM. I mean. They were so hyper manic in getting keyed up for Meghan, and when she didn’t match their enthusiasm, they turned on her. And then when she started ignoring them, they were frankly vicious and snarky. It’s like…. Why do you *care* in the first place??? Do ya think Harry needs a whole crew of weird groupies to vet his choice of partner? ….really?

  17. Kellyz says:

So proud of Harry! He saw all his court cases through and so far won all of them in regards to phone hacking..etc.
It came at a cost but he probably feels it was worth it!
One day soon I hope people will truly look back in admiration for him standing up to the press.
Any lawyers here feel like daily mail is struggling? I don’t even understand why they didn’t just settle. Seems like they’ve given up atleast on the Harry part? Even now the Liz Hurley testimony is so bad for them.

    • HeatherC says:

i wouldn’t be surprised if the plaintiffs refused to settle, especially Harry., He wants the truth of their culpability out in the open for all to know, instead of a statement being buried on page 15 and some money tossed his way with an NDA, you know, like what Will did for the most part. He and the others are hoping if ANL is found to be liable or guilty or whatever the term is, it would hopefully force some real changes so no one else has to experience this.

      • Kellyz says:

Good point about hopefully getting authorities to look into the cases. I forgot that Keir starmer mentioned opening an inquiry or looking into changes that hacked of Hugh had recommended.

      • Blujfly says:

In the English system, if a settlement is offered, and you refuse it, and the case proceeds to verdict, and you are awarded even a cent less than the settlement offer, you must pay the other sides’ fees. The Mail’s fees in this case will be in the millions, if not eight figures. That is how they force settlement.

William of course now has the £30 million a year from the Duchy of Cornwall so he could afford to sue, but I think he will hide behind the late Queen’s escape route ‘never complain never explain”

  18. sunniside up says:

The cross examination ended quickly after the comment about the burglary, White knew that Harry had hit the nail on the head and was right.

  19. maja says:

I think they stopped because the argument “You were friends with RR” didn’t work. That would have automatically put the palaces in the spotlight and made it even clearer who benefited from all this madness. We know it. The world knows it. And in my opinion, there was a clear directive not to provoke Harry, because otherwise even more embarrassing information about the heads of families and palaces would have come to light.

  20. tamsin says:

If one only read the royalist headlines, one could conclude that Harry was an emotional wreck on the stand and the lawyer made mincemeat out of him. From what I read, Harry’s emotional response came at the end, talking to his own lawyer and when he talked about the toll on Meghan.

    • Julia says:

It’s a civil trial and Harry is not on trial. He is just there to talk about his experiences and answer questions from the defence lawyer. He did what he was supposed to do and the defence was not able to land any killer blows. ANL case is looking weak!

  21. Lady Digby says:

Okay this is a CiVIL action but if ANL paid to obtain information via listening to someone ‘s landline or bugging a mobile surely that is criminal? If Judge decides the case in favour of complainants then could a criminal case follow? It can’t be right to bug or blag confidential medical details because someone happens to be famous or they are the mother of a murder victim? This is disgusting conduct and they can be no public interest justification whatsoever? Elton John accuses ANL of obtaining his new born son’s birth certificate. How can ANYONE think that a new born child’s birth certificate belongs to anyone other than the parents?! Who do ANL think they are ? Do they actually believe that they are so powerful that they can publish any old vicious nonsense based upon illegally obtained data? Prince Harry made it clear that he’s been punished by them targeting him and his wife to send a clear warning to others in the public eye that they will attempt to reduce your reputation to rubble if you take legal action against them!! I suspect Wilbur is terrified about what they could print on him hence him using Jason to horse trade stories on Harry and Meghan to suppress any discussion of his secrets!!

    • jais says:

Scotland Yard or the Met police or whoever are the ones who should be answering the question as to why criminal charges have never been brought. It was clear that Piers Morgan should have been criminally charged after Harry won the Mirror case. And yet no charges happened. Although karma came for his hip so there is that.

      • sunniside up says:

The burden of proof is higher in the criminal court than it is in the civil court.

      • Maja says:

Are all these terrible articles, which are completely unfounded, not considered evidence? They were written to damage people’s reputations and worse. What is evidence if not all these repugnant writings, which go far beyond freedom of expression and have been circulating for years?

  22. Lady Digby says:

This amounts to stalking and harassment and ANL and it’s reporters should be prosecuted if the Judge finds ANL guilty at this civil trial. No wonder Harry and Meghan decided to live abroad to escape from this unacceptable level of harassment. Can you believe being mauled like via illegal activities and then have courtiers who are meant to be on your side and protecting your best interests start briefing against you? Caroline Graham cultivates bad dad since 2017 which has got to be unethical and then Jason Knauf starts feeding The Fail stories to suppress coverage of Wilbur and wife. No wonder Harry and Meghan were driven out, took back control of their own lives and live happily in the US. I do NOT understand how anybody with any integrity can consider any of this as “journalism” and that well known people or indeed the mother of a murder victim has no right to privacy in their own home?! Does the Fail really want Doreen Lawrence to be put through the ordeal of giving evidence after all that she has already suffered?! I ask again does ANL believe they are above the law and common decency to flog a tabloid??

You know if was bad for the Mail for Sykes to concede the blow they tried with the wedding planner “did not land” ☠️
