The BAFTA nominations came out today! The BAFTAs are scheduled before the Oscars, but they waited to see the Oscar noms before releasing their list. The show will be held on February 22, the last day of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Incidentally, people have had questions about the awards schedule this year – the Winter Olympics knock the schedule off-kilter every four years, as awards shows usually block out that time so that the Olympians can have all of the attention. As for this year’s BAFTA noms, they’re pretty similar to the Oscar noms, with several notable inclusions and snubs. You can see the full list here. Some of the big categories:

No Elle Fanning in supporting, and in “her place,” they’ve added Odessa A’zion, Carey Mulligan and Emily Watson. Interesting. Carey and Emily get priority because they’re British, but I’m not sure why Odessa got priority over Elle. I’m so pleased to see the other Sentimental Value people get BAFTA noms though, especially Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
The BAFTAs have historically had a huge problem with nominating Black, Asian and Latin/Latin-American actors and directors. They famously have never nominated Denzel Washington ever, in the history of his career. There have also been years where they only nominate white actors and directors (and that’s happened pretty recently too). So, it’s nice to see Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, Benicio del Toro, Chase Infiniti, Wunmi Mosaku and Teyana Taylor included. This might be the BAFTAs most diverse nom list in history. I’m so pleased that Chase got a big nom here as well, she was snubbed at the Oscars. Super-pleased for Wunmi and Teyana as well, they’re both amazing. Notably, the BAFTAs did not nominate The Secret Agent or Wagner Moura. BAFTA hates Brazil??
Anyway, the BAFTAs ended up solving some of the problems with the Oscar noms simply by adding one more slot in their acting categories. I wouldn’t be opposed to that for the Oscars – six nominees per category leaves less room for notable snubs.

- Paris, FRANCE Teyana Taylor commanded attention at the Schiaparelli spring/summer 2026 haute couture show during Paris Fashion Week. The singer and actress wore a sheer black lace dress with a structured bodice, layered under a dramatic tailored overcoat. After what i read about Josh Safdie yesterday, I would not support him in anything, good film or no. His brother split with him over it.
This wasnt it, but it talks about it. https://pagesix.com/2026/01/26/hollywood/the-teenage-sex-scene-that-sparked-safdie-brothers-infamous-rift/
Thank you for the link. This is so disturbing and I join you in not supporting anything he does.
If it’s Page 6, you know it’s trustworthy.
It’s Oscar season. I would be suspicious of any expose scandal story about any nominee. Its usually just a rival studio using the Harvey Weinstein campaign technique.
No doubt its part of a campaign to bring it up again. But that man should have stopped filming immediately. The girl was a minor!
The Secret Agent may not have been released on time to be eligible if it’s even been released in the UK at all yet. That happens every year with films that some aren’t released until January.
What @lady rae said. The Secret Agent has not been released yet in UK. It’s out in Feb.
There’s been some great performances and directors this year. I wish there could be 8 nominees though bc I would have liked to see some more love for Park Chan Wook and Jafar Panahi. Maybe timing wise they weren’t eligible.
Shocked Jennifer Lawrence snub for her stupendous work in Brit directed Die My Love.😕😕
Equally😯😯😯 at the Weapons shutout. So Amy Madigan ain’t winning the Oscar.
Madigan could still win an Oscar. Regina King and Jessica Chastain both won Oscars relatively recently without BAFTA nominations.
The secret agent was nominated for two categories: Film not in the English language and Original screenplay.
Would have loved a Skarsgard father son nom
Instead of Sean Penn perhaps
Would have been good for the “banter”
(Northern European insult humour)
