The last film Steven Spielberg directed was The Fabelmans, an autobiographical film about his childhood and his parents. I loved it! My controversial opinion is that it’s one of the best Spielberg films of the past twenty years, and that Michelle Williams deserved more awards-attention for it (she was magnificent in it). Well, four years later, Spielberg has returned to a different kind of familiar territory: aliens. God, I love it. I love it when Spielberg stops trying to make “important” films and he returns to just making fun movies about aliens and sh-t. Spielberg’s Disclosure Day comes out on June 12, and he’s already in promotional mode. Last week, Spielberg gave the keynote interview at SXSW. He talked about his belief that aliens are walking among us. YES!
Steven Spielberg is a believer in the extraterrestrial. The Disclosure Day director, 79, gave his take on the existence of life beyond Earth during a keynote interview at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin on Friday, March 13.
“I don’t know any more than any of you do, but I have a very strong suspicion that we are not alone here on Earth right now,” Spielberg said. “I made a movie about that.”
Spielberg isn’t alone in his thinking, as Barack Obama recently went viral for saying aliens exist. When he first heard this, the legendary filmmaker admitted his first thought was, “Oh my God, this is so great for Disclosure Day.”
After his comments fueled conspiracy theorists, the former president, 64, later clarified his statement on Instagram, saying, “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.”
“He stepped back to say what he believed was life in the cosmos, which, of course, everybody should believe in,” Spielberg added. “No one should really think that we are the only intelligent civilization in the entire universe.”
“The big question is, are we alone now? And have we been alone over the last 80 years? Have we been alone over the last few thousand years?” he added.
He’s right – it’s one thing to say “of course I believe that aliens exist and we are not alone in the cosmos.” It’s quite another to say “aliens walk among us here on earth” and/or “we are being visited regularly.” Another trailer for Disclosure Day came out last week, and I wanted to talk about it for a second. One, OF COURSE Spielberg had his eye on Josh O’Connor and ended up casting Josh in a major role. I’m so happy for Josh, his career is going gangbusters. Two, I love that Spielberg is finally working with Colin Firth as well!! Three, I think casting Emily Blunt as an alien is actually solid work?

A long time back there was a person who Steven worked with when he was younger on documentaries. The person was going to be allowed to see some ufo footage to put in the documentary. The day before they were to begin shooting the documentary the military changed their mind and would not allow the footage. Several years pass and Steven does Close Encounters of the Third Kind which the very last scene was of the aliens landing and that is what was supposed to be in the documentary the footage of a ufo landing at a military base. No wonder he believes. I believe too.
Yes I have heard this story and isn’t one of the documentary people in the movie – he was a consultant and was also acted in it.
Yes!! There were two that advised on the film and one who actually appeared in the film.
I am excited for this one. It just shows how talented he is that he can make a movie like this and a movie like the Fabelmans. Jurassic Park vs. Schindler’s List. Most directors, even very good ones, cannot shift gears like that. And I think emily blunt is very good in these kinds of movies so I think she’ll do well here.
Project Hail Mary also comes out this weekend – AMAZE!!!! all the aliens!
and yes there is definitely other life out there and maybe some on here as well, there is so much we just don’t know.
I will def go and see this – looks like a bit of a return to form for Speilberg, he does this kind of thing well and the casting is spot on (he normally gets that right). Thou it does feel like an updated Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (which I ADORE).
Can’t wait!
Wow…this looks amazing.
I can’t wait….or can I ?????
Jodie Foster in Contact is still my ultimate alien heroine. Such a passionate, brilliant film.
Jodie Foster in Contact and Amy Adams in Arrival for me. Both those movies had me thinking and pondering for days and weeks afterward.
Oh boy! I’m in.
This is right up my alley and most likely will get me back in a theater again! And it’s good to see Colin Firth working after that mess with his ex-wife.
This looks amazing!
