Afroman’s win against the cops suing him for defamation is a win for free speech

You might know Afroman from his 2000 hit “Because I Got High.” He’s still making music and touring and he lives in Winchester, Ohio. In 2022 when Afroman was out of town, Adams County cops conducted a raid on his home based on a false tip of kidnapping and drug trafficking. Afroman’s wife and two children, aged 10 and 12, were home at the time. Cops found nothing except $5,000 in cash he forgot about in a suit and some minor pot paraphernalia. No charges were filed. Police damaged the gate and a door in Afroman’s house and they also disconnected some of his cameras inside the home. When Afroman went to the police station with his lawyer and a news team to inquire about his missing property, the clerk admitted on camera that $400 was missing from the seized money. Cops never returned the money or compensated him for the damage to his home. Afroman made multiple diss tracks about the raid, the most famous being Lemon Pound Cake, about the chubby sheriff eyeing his mom’s pound cake sitting on the counter. He’s used his footage from the raid along with actors to roast the f-ck out of the cops and it’s been hilarious. Other bangers include Will You Help Me Repair My Door and Randy Walters is a Son of a Bitch.

The deputies’ feelings got hurt over Afroman’s catchy diss tracks and they sued him in a civil case for defamation. The court hearings were this week and they were thankfully televised. They included such gems as Randy Walters not being able to deny that Afroman f’cked his wife. Afroman’s sole witness, the ex wife of a retired sheriff’s deputy who claimed Afroman’s music was responsible for his divorce, revealed that had nothing to do with her divorce and that she had a restraining order against her ex.

Afroman testified about how the raid affected him and his family. He was steadfast in how he was being targeted for using his freedom of speech. He said “I got the right to kick a can in my backyard, use my freedom of speech, turn my bad times into a good time… I think I’m a sport for doing so, because I don’t go to their house, kick down their doors, flip them off on their surveillance cameras, then try to play the victim and sue them.” Afroman continued to release videos during his trial and put out the Batteram Hymn of the Police Whistle Blower just five days ago.

After a three day trial and less than a day of deliberation, the jury found Afroman not guilty on all counts. I’ve heard that it was an all-white jury (it’s a 95% white county) but I can’t confirm that. It’s a huge victory for free speech. After his win, Afroman told reporters outside the courthouseI didn’t win America won. America still has freedom of speech. It’s still for the people, by the people.” He also just reached over a million subscribers on YouTube. This trial and his victory was a joy to watch and I’m so happy for him.

Terrible behavior from the cops. But it’s good to see Afroman make lemonade out of it. And iconic videos. Good for him.

So grateful he won. Don’t understand how the police aren’t responsible for returning his money even though some is “missing”. How can we hold police accountable for theft and for turning off surveillance cameras?

I always wonder if thats how it is in America, whenever I watch movies and see a police raid and they turn someone’s house upside down i always wonder if thats the reality.Do cops really do what they want in raid or search,do they pay for any damage? Why cant they just go through peoples homes respectfu!

I’m happy for him. I love that he chose to wear that suit to Court while advocating for freedom of speech. He’s awesome.

You know who else steals property? Frozen water. They take your jewelry, your phone, your valuables and you DON’T get them back when you are released. Thievery in broad daylight. I am waiting for that class action lawsuit. There are even reports of them taking your documents.

I am not traveling to the States but if I were, I would not take any jewelry, designer bags, cash or anything of value. So this continues to happen. There are even cases in Minnesota where they drop people off they are releasing in the middle of the night in the woods in sub zero temps without their winter coats. But for the volunteers out looking for them those people would perish. Just vile.

Well I take it part of it back lol finding out he supports Trump! What in the fresh hell? So he’s not awesome. Kudos to him for fighting for free speech, but yeah he is supporting a dictator actively suppressing it. So eff him!

I get so profoundly disappointed when I hear any POC supports Donald Trump. Like really? What game are you watching?

I’m glad he won but he’s a huge Trump supporter so I’ll be happy to never hear about him again

This trial was about freedom of Speech. To see the lawyers read the lyrics from Rap songs was hilarious.
Afroman made a video, of him running in front of the Sheriff’s office, with a fat woman dressed in a deputy’s uniform, chasing him, reminded me of ‘Benny Hill’ skits.

Glad he won. And it shows how corrupt cops are again. I don’t care that’ he’s a Trump supporter. This was totally them suing him under 1A and it should never have been allowed. And it’s crap that he wasn’t allowed to counter-sue. His lawyer dog walked all of the plaintiffs and it was hilarious.

I’m wasn’t aware of the case but came across a video montage of the female cop crying on the stand because of the song and video he made of her. All I can say is if you’re crying over it, you definitely don’t need to be a cop. How ridiculously embarrassing that you made yourself appear mentally unstable in court because a song hurt your feelings and bruised your ego.
