Did Prince Harry visit Baltimore just to eat at a famous local restaurant?

Prince Harry was in Washington, DC on Tuesday. He spoke at length at the IAPP Conference, all about internet privacy and the need for stricter guardrails on social media and beyond. This was not Harry’s first time in the DMV, but it looks like he stayed in the general area beyond his appearance at the conference. On Wednesday, Harry turned up in Baltimore, and we know this because he went to a local restaurant called Charleston. He took a photo with the head chef and owner, and she wrote: “Am thankful to have had the chance to cook for him at Charleston.”

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, visited Charleston, a popular, award-winning Baltimore eatery, while in the region this week, restaurant officials confirmed.

Owner Cindy Wolf, who was sharply dressed in a bold red chef jacket, stood next to the towering former Royal near the doorway of the Harbor East restaurant.

“Wow wow wow,” her caption read. “Hope to see you again.”

Prince Harry was in the region for the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ global summit on privacy, artificial intelligence governance and cybersecurity law in Washington, which kicked off Monday.

First of all, I’m staring respectfully at Harry’s shoes. Those look really expensive. That man married a millionaire actress and he immediately began upgrading his wardrobe. I never thought that Meghan would convince Harry to give up those fakakta suede shoes he used to wear constantly. As for the restaurant, of course I looked up the menu. It looks amazing, and now I wonder if Harry had the venison or the bison. Maybe he was in a seafood mood – grilled octopus, perhaps? Or the wild rockfish? Anyway, I wonder if Harry had other reasons for visiting Baltimore. I get the feeling that he travels around the US more often than we know.

Baltimore’s food scene is a 100x better than DC.

I freaked out when I saw this last night. This restaurant is amazing. It’s the ultimate fancy date night restaurant – and it IS super fancy and expensive by Baltimore standards.

But at the same time the chef is really down to earth and nice, and the co owner who is the sommelier is one of the classiest business owners I’ve ever met. The kind of restaurant where they circle around on any given night and introduce themselves (he helped me into my coat one night and sent me a personal thank you note for eating there – and I’m a NOBODY obviously). It’s our go to special occasion restaurant.

And to top it off, a few years ago there was a kerfuffle (to put it mildly) when another local restaurant group – Atlas – imposed a dress code that it was enforcing in a racist way (no athletic clothes for example, but only enforced with Black families). Charleston hung a Black Lives Matter sign in their window (and a pride flag) and emphasized that all were welcome in their restaurants at all times wearing whatever they wanted (and they’ve stuck to that).

    Plus the food is outstanding.

Basically I know feel Harry is in my six degrees of separation lol. I asked on IG and she said he was very kind and very tall, lol.

Oh wow. Harry went to your go-to special occasion restaurant! That’s so cool. The menu has me drooling. It sounds amazing and now I wanna go.

    • Ginger says:

Aww, that’s amazing! So many people say the same thing about Harry being very kind and very tall lol.

    • Inge says:

That is absolutely wonderful to hear! And should you meet Harry you can share stories about this restaurant. Thanks for sharing!

    Charleston is the best!

Oh, wow. Mr TMac and I had our wedding reception (aka, dinner with friends and family after a courthouse wedding) at Charleston back in the day. The food was so amazing (even the chicken strips that were given to the under-5s in our party). The wine was amazing with generous pours lol. The service was amazing. They treated us so well. I hope Harry enjoyed his time there as much as we did!

Always tickles me to see Harry and Meghan enjoying their lives out and about. While those gutter rats write books and spiral

  6. Normades says:

That looks amazing. I’ll have the 3 course with wine pairings. Artichoke truffle soup, grilled octopus and crawfish with creamy grits please.

  7. another cross to carry says:

The suedes and velvets are for the other brother. Those ghastly green, purple, and brown velvet and suede jackets/pants/shoes fit the fairy wills perfectly!

  8. Amy Bee says:

Harry’s living the life. Good for him.

  9. Me at home says:

I kinda love that Harry traveled an hour up I-95 or the BWI parkway to sample the best of DC’s local cuisine. Go Harry!

  10. Barb Mill says:

My first thought was maybe Meghan is planning a July 4th 250th year special for With Love, Meghan and she is going to be the guest chef. Since Harry was in DC he decided to go up for a visit and meal. I know it’s far fetched but I’m just wanting another Netflix special.

    • Inge says:

‘how dare Meghan celebrate that the US ditched the british monarchy’

UK tabloids, probably. But I’d love to see it!

  11. maisie says:

  12. Little Red says:

Never been there but Tom Sietsema, the former WaPo restaurant critic, has always raved about it.

  13. Elly says:

Harry looks great. Those shoes are gorgeous. Meghan’s great fashion sense has definitely rubbed off.

  14. Lamb Chop says:

Just want to point out Harry’s not a former royal, he IS royal.

Meanwhile that menu looks amazing. Glad he’s enjoying himself.

  15. Lover says:

I would 100% make a special trip for an amazing restaurant. So relatable.

  16. Georgie says:

That menu looks AMAZING. As a DC-er, agree that Baltimore has some really underrated gems.

However, I do want to respectfully push back on the concept of Harry only starting to dress well and expensively after meeting Meghan. He was always a sharp dresser and…love him, but his family did colonize half the globe. He’s always been richer than sin and always dressed expensively! (and I like those suede shoes)

    • Magdalena says:

Excuse me? That “budget for the brothers” allocated by Prince Charles was gobbled up by WILLIAM, then by William and Kate after he married her. William got the fancy offices, the staff, the housing and clothing budget. Harry wasn’t even paid for the extensive work he did on behalf of queen and country and by his own words, his father only gave him a small allowance which was supposed to be spent on work clothes (those sharply dressed clothing items). The man had HOLES in his shoes for years, lived in a rundown shack, albeit “within royal grounds”, and bought oversized garments from TKMaxx during the sales. He may have come from a rich family, but he himself was certainly NOT rich (and remember that the money his mother left him was locked up tight for much of his twenties – if the powers that be would have allowed him access to it at all. There are plenty of photographs of Harry in baggy, ill-fitting clothes in private and on casual public engagements, and we now know the reason for that.

Why do people refuse to believe the man’s own account of his lived experiences? There is a reason why many supporters consider Harry to have been the Cinderella or Harry Potter of the British Royal Family until his marriage.

    • TN Democrat says:

The monarch and heir hoard all the wealth and manipulate the rest of their family by giving them scrapes. Harry has talked about being delibately underfunded by his father and having to buy clothes on sale at the British equivalent of TJ Maxx. The story caused a furor at the time. Harry has always been handsome and charismatic, but he certainly dresses better now. High end fabrics and tailoring just looks better. Also. Brain fog. I keep reading Biltmore instead of Baltimore and confusing myself. Asheville is a wonderful place to visit with a very different vibe from most of western NC, but Biltmore itself is over-rated (unless you go for the gardens during Spring or for the Christmas experience). Baltimore makes much more sense. Lol. Charleston and Savanna are also wonderful places to visit.

    • Elly says:

@Georgie I agree that Harry has always had a good sense of style but as Magdalena so eloquently put it, Harry said in Spare that he was shopping at TJ Max. I recommend you read his book. He also says in Spare that Charles told him that he wouldn’t pay for Meghan’s clothes. This was when Meghan was a very hard working Royal. Charles is a billionaire cheapskate! I respectfully say that I think Meghan has absolutely fine tuned Harry’s style.
