Donald Trump defends Miss USA contestants’ “sexy” glamour shots

Celebs Attend Costume Institute Gala At The Metropolitan Museum of Art

This is such a bullsh-t scandal, I know. It’s one of those totally manufactured “scandals” that is all about cross-promoting. This one is for Donald Trump’s Miss USA pageant. I guess they were worried that people wouldn’t tune in unless they could top the “Carrie Prejean is a f-cking idiot” scandal from last year. Thus, all of the Miss USA contestants were forced (or given the opportunity) to pose in cheesy, lingerie-clad “glamour shots” as part of their Miss USA promotional stuff. These are some of the images – like budget Victoria’s Secret catalog stuff. Anyway, somebody said something about it being “too sexy” and immediately Donald Trump (who owns the pageant) defended the “glamour shots”.

Miss California (and Miss USA finalist) Carrie Prejean lost her crown when topless photos of her emerged last year.

But this year? The Miss USA pageant contestants pose in lacy lingerie and fishnet tights while rolling around in a bed for their official competition “glam” portraits.

Donald Trump, who owns the Miss Universe organization, defends the racy pics.

“We are in a different age. They are a little bit sexy but I’ll tell you what — everybody’s watching, so I have no problems with it,” Trump, 63, tells The Insider. “If you look at Miss America, it’s now off network television — and we’re doing better than ever, so I really have no problem with it.”

Continues Trump, “The Miss USA Pageant and the Miss Universe Pageant just got renewed for three years by NBC. The ratings have been terrific.”

Trump tells the New York Post that Prejean’s photos “were quite a bit different. There’s no open exposure [in the current Miss USA pictures]….they [are] very artsy and very beautiful.”

[From Us Weekly]

The problem wasn’t that Carrie Prejean posed for sexy photos, it’s that she lied and violated her contract by not informing the Miss USA pageant about her soft-core pornographic photos and her solo sex tapes. And that she was a hypocrite and a bigot. So I suppose Miss USA has changed their rules or whatever, and now the pageant is just going to be full-on cheesy, “sexy” posing in lingerie or swimsuits. Whatever. I’m not offended by the lingerie-clad contestants, I’m offended by the obvious effort to build this into a silly controversy.

If feminists of all ages would unite AGAINST these insipid pageants altogether, it would help all women. Donald seems to have raised a beautiful and intelligent daughter, and yet he is intent on promoting women as sex objects through his STUPID Miss USA pageant. Women are above this crap…..aren’t we?

  3. Sakota says:

I think pageants are something fun, but I am SICK of seeing these women dressed like complete sluts. If these women paraded in modest swimsuits, real gowns (not this glittery trash) and showed off REAL accomplishments, then I think these pageants would be nice enough.

These aren’t glamorous shots, these are like MAXIM magazine spreads.

  4. Sudini says:

@Anti-icon, I totally agree. These pagents are so outdated and vapid and it’s time for them to go away. The fact that a woman’s worth is still measured (at least according to pageants) by how well she wears a bathing suit and/or evening gown is just gross.

  5. Risa says:

These women had a choice in taking these photos or not- it wasn’t mandatory. I think they all look wonderful and I only wish I could do glamour shots like these to give to my fiance for our wedding!

    Anti-icon..
How would it help “all women” if a group of women protested about what another group of women are choosing to do with their time, energy and bodies..not getting how that is supportive of the strength and empowerment of women.
Seems to me to be the judgment of one segment about what is appropriate for the whole.
    Not very “feminist”…
There is a group of women who are obviously NOT above this “crap” as there is still a place for pageants in our culture and women participate in and watch them.

Donald Trump is a businessman and caters to that which is profitable and marketable and he did raise what appear to be stable, grounded and seemingly nice children…so give the guy a break.

  7. javagirl1 says:

I think the pictures are very pretty…sexy, yet tasteful

  8. ligeia says:

miss america is just a glorified T n A contest, don’t see the problem with these pictures since these girls have nothing to offer besides their looks. Might as well showcase them more, ya know..

  9. LindyLou says:

I agree with posters above saying the pageants are outdated and ridiculous. They should have stopped them years ago. I don’t think this sends a good message to young girls. Self esteem should not be measured by a girls’ looks.

  10. daisyfly says:

So the Miss USA pageant is auditioning for the Pussycat Dolls now?

  11. lucy2 says:

I think it’s an outdated concept too, but these are adults, so if they want to waste their time and money on it (seriously, where does it get you?), that’s up to them.
The little kid pageants are the worrisome ones, I think.

  12. M says:

I don’t think these photos are all that bad. Theres lots of other celebrities that take shots like these for magazines, and no one seems to bat an eye.

  13. Jackie says:

These women are supposed to be representatives of the USA. Sorry, but they do not represent REAL women of the USA. They look like whores.

  14. jover says:

I was going to join the chorus and engage in an easy condemnation of pageants as outdated, anti-feminist, hokey, etc. but 12 and javagirl1 made me reconsider. The shots are actually better than most Maxim shots, and they certainly look better than Megafarse’s (oops, megan fox’s) flat, insipid Armani ads or Jennifer Aniston’s perfume shots, and as javagirl1 stated, hollywood celebs get these kinds of photos taken all the time and no-one seems to care. I think part of the issue is that pageants are associated with southern more conservative outlook, and hollywood celebs like to think of themselves as oh so liberal and progressive, so they get a pass while the beauty pageant queens get ripped on. Anyway, i’ll take miss west virginia for the win; i’m partial my son attends wvu.

  15. Aitch says:

I agree: THe pageant is outdated and outlasted its usefulness. This is clearly a way to try and stay relevant.

  16. eternalcanadian says:

That there we go, more examples of why today’s teen gals are so sexually promiscious (the post about Miley Cyrus doing lapdances). That is also why women will never be seen as equal to men, especially in the workplace.

When someone like Miss USA goes around as nothing but a sexual object, that sure gives positive role-models to our youth. For Donald Trump to support this is inane. Would he approve of his two duaghters and one granddaughter doing this?

Guys are taught to see women as nothing good except for sexual gratification and gals are taught they are only as good as fitting in skimpy lingere and sticking their boobs and arses out for the world to see.

I think I’m just gonna join a convent…then again they’re just as corrup as society these days…

  17. I should be working says:

I’ve always thought the pageant was a bore, but hate to see this. Yeah, Don, we’re in a different age, but the Miss USA (however boring or unnecessary) was a “classy” *snickers* T n A display (right?) These chicks, however “cute” they look, look like sssssluts. Sexy, pretty SLUTS. I’m so tired of the angled head/crawl pose– really. UGH.

  18. Toby says:

You mean these women are really insipid, self-centered, classless hos? Really?
Next you’ll be telling me they’re stupid, too.

  19. Alexa says:

I just wish that if they are going to have these kinds of pageants that they’d also have the exact same things for men!

  20. Marie says:

Carrie Prejean did not pose for soft core pornography photos. I am tired of the left’s lies. The only reason why anyone cared about anything she did was because she wasn’t for gay “marriage”. Thinking that marriage should be between a man and a woman is not bigoted. It’s ridiculous. Furthermore, posing for those photos does not make her a hypocrite. She got flack for her gay “marriage” position. As far as I can tell, she hasn’t married any women, therefore she’s not a fucking hypocrite.

  21. Anti-icon says:

Marie, that’s not entirely true. I gave her flack not for her bold opinion against gay marriage (which I thought was kind of refreshing). It was the FAKE BOOBS, paid for by the Miss California organization, that made her a hipocrite. Followed by her very UN-pretty emails and behavior to people. Carrie Prejean dug her own grave with her ugly personality and fake body…..it wasn’t her opinions that did it.
