Charlie Sheen was at court in Aspen, Colorado yesterday to be sentenced for a misdemeanor guilty plea in connection with the Christmas day assault of his estranged wife, Brooke Mueller. It was reported that Sheen would receive a 30 day sentence, out of which he was serve 17 days with time off every weekday for work release. The jail is incredibly cushy and looks more like a dorm and Charlie was to be allowed out from 8am – 8pm to work at a local community theater. The jail even has co-ed common areas, where inmates can watch TV and play games up until bedtime at 11:30. After pleading guilty and receiving sentencing, it was thought that Charlie would begin serving his very light sentence immediately.

Charlie’s plea deal was allegedly thwarted yesterday by a jail employee who wanted to impose stricter conditions on his work release. As a result, he’s free until the next hearing on July 12. According to TMZ, the supervisor of the work release program wanted to limit Charlie’s time at work to 10am – 4pm and forbid him from smoking while he was out of jail. This was despite the Sheriff’s signoff on the earlier agreement that Charlie would be out of jail for a full 12 hours with no restrictions. Charlie’s lawyer wasn’t having that, and now he’s a free man for nearly five more weeks:

The woman who threw the monkey wrench in the Charlie Sheen plea agreement wanted to tighten the screws on Charlie to the point he couldn’t even light up a cigarette while he was out working at a local theater … TMZ has learned.

Beverly Campbell is Pitkin County’s Jail Administrative Officer. We’ve learned … on Monday, Campbell insinuated herself [sic] in the deal her boss — the Sheriff himself — signed off on. Campbell believes Charlie is not eligible for work release, but rather his daily get-out-of-jail pass should be something called “Useful Public Service (UPS).”

We’re told Campbell believes under UPS, Charlie should only get out between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM. Under the work release deal her boss signed, Charlie was supposed to get out between 8 AM and 8 PM.

Even worse, sources say Campbell believes under the UPS program Charlie has no right to eat, drink sodas, or smoke when he’s working at the Aspen Theatre.

And, under the UPS program, Charlie would have faced a longer period of probation after serving his time than under the work release program.

TMZ broke the story … the Sheriff and the D.A. actually signed a plea deal that utterly contradicted what Campbell was demanding, but the Sheriff would not overrule or discipline her … at least not while he was in court.

In the end, we’re told Charlie’s lawyer, Yale Galanter, refused to relent and pulled the plug.

So Charlie wouldn’t have been able to smoke while he was working at a theater all day instead of spending time in a jail with a decent gym and private cells. That’s cruel and unusual punishment! How dare that woman tell Charlie he’s not allowed to smoke or hang out at a theater for 12 hours a day. Now he’s free for even longer and his high priced lawyer will probably work out an even cushier deal for him, given the way the earlier deal was rescinded. That’s celebrity justice for you. If only Charlie would have abused his wife in LA and been sentenced by Paris Hilton’s tough judge.

Look at these photos of Charlie outside his hearing. He’s somber and wearing a hat when he gets there and is thrilled and giving the thumbs up sign when he leaves.

i will say this. i may not like or approve of him, but when your boss signs off on a deal and you come back saying no, isn’t that grounds for losing your job? and if he ends up getting a cushier deal how stupid are you going to look?

ms. campbell did not have to sign off on the deal. administrator doesn’t that just mean she puts the paperwork through? does she do this to all inmates? or is charlie the exception?

Oh, please! If he was sentenced in LA 99.9 out of 100 times the celebrity factor gets them Lohan-like deals. The judge probably would have apologised to Sheen.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Charlie meets his next wife in the “common area” of the jail?? The nights can get awfully lonely there lol

  8. Jeri says:

When I heard of his “job” the 1st thing I thought of was his being able to smoke.

Good picture, I was wondering what his hair looked like growing in, others weren’t clear enough to tell. Wonder if he’ll go back to his hair peice (or whatever that front fluff of hair was).

  9. gee_gee says:

Why is this punk ass still running around free? And still has a job? CBS can bite me. Clearly he has better people than Chris Brown.

    A. He looks old. B. He looks fucked up. C. In the name of women everywhere, please send Beverly Campbell a good 6-pack of beer, a large chocolate bar, and a nice masseur: she deserves it.
