Two weeks ago, TMZ announced that Chace Crawford had been arrested on a possession charge in Texas. Unfortunately for Chace, he was sitting in a car with a friend outside of a bar, and the cops pulled up, went through the car and found ONE JOINT. It was unlit, and it was not in Chace’s possession at the time, it was in the car. But that didn’t stop Texas from formally charging Chace with possession, a charge that could lead to six months in a Texas jail. Anyway, Us Weekly is now reporting the “inside story” on Chace’s arrest and how his parents are dealing with the shame… of having a son who sits in a car with an unlit joint.

Chace Crawford could spend up to six months in jail if he’s convicted on his misdemeanor charge of pot possession — but he’s already in the dog house with Mom and Dad.

After his June 4 arrest in a parking lot outside a Plano, Tex. bar, “his mom called him crying,” an insider close to Crawford, 24, tells UsMagazine.com.

“He comes from a very good family, and his parents were so upset that his mugshot was everywhere,” the insider says of mother Dana and father Chris.

Cops busted Crawford and a pal inside a parked car after they discovered an unlit marijuana joint. Following the incident, another pal insisted the actor was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time: “He wasn’t smoking, the pot was in the car, and it was his friend’s.”

“Ultimately [his parents] did believe him when he explained the joint ‘wasn’t his,'” the insider adds. “But they were still unhappy to have their son’s name associated with drugs.”

A third Crawford source explains the family is “upper middle class.” Dana and father Chris “weren’t strict parents — just always had high expectations.”

Accordingly, Crawford’s summer party plans will be extra subdued, the insider says. “Don’t expect to see Chace out clubbing anytime soon. He’s going to be laying low for awhile after that.”

Plus, the TV star will have a prestigious new big-screen project to keep him busy. Crawford has signed on to star alongside Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener in the indie drama Peace, Love and Misunderstanding, Variety reports.

I’ve said it before, but I do feel for Chace. That being said, his parents sound rough – it‘s seriously not the end of the world. Chace’s shot at the presidency isn’t necessarily shot, you know? Sure, my mom would probably be mad too, but if I told her these circumstances, I think she would be pretty understanding.

By the way, anti-drug crusaders – Sarah Palin says toking up isn’t the worst thing in the world. Her words? “If we’re talking about pot, I’m not for the legalization of pot. I think that would just encourage our young people to think that it was OK to go ahead and use it. However, I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts. If somebody’s gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society.” Jesus. I agree with Sarah Palin. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, bitches.

Awww he’s so cute in that I wanna mess his hair and pinch his cheeks kind of way!

  2. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Well most parents aren’t real happy when their kids get in trouble.

  3. lucy2 says:

Uh oh, I think I just agreed with Palin too. Hell should be freezing over right about…now.

  4. Riley says:

“Is that an iPhone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” Sorry I couldn’t resist but when your jeans are painted on…

  5. manda says:

Why was the car searched? Was there a drug sniffing dog (which can smell pot from hundreds of feet, if not yards, away)? What were they doing that aroused suspicion?

  6. Q says:

I’d smoke HIM if I got him.

His parents sound like good people who don’t want to see their son go down the Young Hollywood path. I prefer parents who freak out over one little drug arrest to Dina Lohan any day.

But as long as we’re on the subject, getting busted by local cops outside a bar in a little town in Texas is pretty much every kid in the northeast’s worst nightmare.

  7. normade says:

I actually feel really bad for him. Lilo gets away with so much cr*p and he gets busted for an unlit joint!

  8. KJ says:

His dad, Dr. Chris Crawford is actually my dermatologist. I remember when I first started seeing him in highschool, he told me his son was on a soap opera, and eventually told me that Chace was being cast on a WB (now CW) show based on the Gossip Girl series. That whole family is really well to do. That dad, Dr. Crawford, is really nice and very good at what he does. He has a very lucrative practice (Dallas Assoc. Dermatologists), the daughter is a beauty queen and Chase is an actor. They’re just people who are used to perfection, and getting busted for pot isn’t perfection. I doubt it’s so much that they’re strict, like the source said, I think it’s more about maintaining a clean and successful image.

As an avid pot smoker, I feel for him. I’m from Texas and they are pretty harsh on possession as compared to places like LA, but they’re pretty in-line with what much of conservative america feels. Legalize!

  9. Mistral says:

I am anti-drugs, including pot, but I don’t think you should be busting people for possessing/smoking a little. It is a waste of resources and it seems that there are way too many people in American jails for these types of offences.

  10. ViktoryGin says:

Typical. They’re from Plano. One of the well-to-do, conservative cells in the state. That his parents are “outraged and shamed having had their bourgeois sensibilities violated” is of absolutely no surprise.

Months ago my friend and I happened to be on IMDB, when she saw a pic of him. Neither one of us watch Gossip Girl, but I knew his name. So, she clicks on his photo because she’s really partial to pretty boys. She was oohing and aahing, and I shit you not I said…hmmm…..he IS attractive, but he looks too much like one of those suburban boy from TX. I shit you not. Lo, and behold. She proceeds and read his background. Local football wonder, beauty queen pageant sister: textbook Texan upper-middle class triteness. Stopped the attraction dead in its tracks. lol.

  11. hi ppl i can’t wait 4 the expendables to come out! Its gonna be awesome!

  12. sam says:

Seriously leave him alone. Just because hes famous they are making a big deal and who knows the truth. Arrested 4 times well maybe its true maybe its not but hes business.
Any parents would be upset they have a right to shows they care. Plus there sons mug shot is out there. That is private. He didnt kill a man or hurt anyone. If he did I can understand.
People make mistakes in life all the time and whose to judge?
This is a sick way for someone to make money by trying to put a shame another.
If thats how they need to make a living GROSS!

  13. sam says:

Another thing NO FAMILY is perfect and no one is perfect. Its the way hes picture is out there and they way they are probably STRETCHING the truth because hes famous. I dont smoke but if I did its because I really heard it helps MS which I have. Would i be judge? Not famous so no probably not but Montel williams does for his MS. Theres no pictures of him up. Rappers smoke heck they even show signs of it in videos. Think before you write things please.
