Did Chris Brown use eye drops to fake-cry at the BET Awards?

On Monday, CB covered Chris Brown’s epic self-aborbed tearfest on the BET Awards on Sunday. Chris performed a dance tribute to Michael Jackson, then attempted to sing a cover of “Man In the Mirror”. As he was singing, Chris seemed to have some kind of breakdown, doing some overly-dramatic histrionics that many didn’t buy. I mean, we could buy that Chris was weeping because his own career was in the toilet, but crying about Michael Jackson? Be a professional, dude. You were hired for this big gig to pay tribute to a man, and you can’t even get through it without making it about you? Anyway, Us Weekly got some behind-the-scenes witnesses to say that they saw Chris put tear drops in his eyes before his performance.

Crocodile tears? Chris Brown caused a lot of chatter at the BET Awards Sunday when he broke down in tears during a Michael Jackson tribute.

An insider tells UsMagazine.com the crying was fake.

Before he took the stage to belt out “Man in the Mirror,” a backstage source tells Us one of Brown’s bodyguards gave the singer, 21, tear-inducing eye drops.

Brown’s rep denies it, telling Us that Brown simply “was moved by the opportunity to pay tribute to his idol.” But the witness says Brown definitely used drops.

Says the source, “He rubbed it in and he started crying.”

[From Us Weekly]

Sure, I’ll buy that, although it seemed like Chris started crying when he was into the song, not when he came out. But I’ll buy anything negative about Chris. The kid’s a douche, and I could see how it work in his mind: “I’m gonna put this tear drops in my eyes, everyone will think I’m so emotional, and then they’ll love me again.” Wrong again, d-ckhead.

Most of the videos of Chris Brown’s tears have been taken down, but this CBS clip has a little bit of it:

  1. Danielle says:

I hate him. He’s a phoney and I totally believe he would do this.

    Creep.

  2. denise says:

I think he faked it. It was all facial expressions ,minus the tears. I guess his people figured it was the only way for him to have a career comeback.

  3. Bite me says:

Am really torn on this partiular situation,i think it’s time Chris brown enroll at a college since his music career is probably over even though he could prObably write songs for other artists

  4. Iggles says:

Ha! Wouldn’t put it past him!

Starting to think he’s a sociopath. He doesn’t feel emotions like we do, so he has to fake them. Would explain why he only gets emotional over how his brutal physical assault on Rihanna effects him. And he doesn’t seem to get why people think he’s self absorbed and insincere.

  5. Nanea says:

Why, why, why did they even have him on the show?

I agree, he was crying about everything that didn’t go the way *he* wanted it to go, from radio stations not playing his songs to judges actually judging him…

  6. Leticia says:

I think he faked it. He seems incapable of shedding tears for anyone aside from himself.

  7. lucy2 says:

I wouldn’t put it past him either.
    I wish he’d go away.

  8. TQB says:

I almost hope it was faked. To me that would make him slightly less of a self-absorbed douche. If it was intentional, it was a calculated career move. otherwise he just got up and made a tribute All About Chris.

Either way, he still sucks and I hate that people made a bigger deal about Kanye getting drunk and making a fool out of himself than they did about this guy who should have been throw in jail for what he did.

  9. Sumodo1 says:

Cry for me, Chris Brown, I still don’t have a job.

  10. Sarah says:

A woman beater playing tribute to a pedophile. Huh, that’s oddly appropriate.

  11. Tracy says:

He’s 21 and just as, if not more than, self absorbed than most young men are at this age ….not surprised, or convinced of the positive or negatives of the performance just curious of what he does next….which should prove his sincerity or lack thereof

  12. Bonnie says:

I understand why people hate him but if everyone thinks he’s the only one that beat his girlfriend that’s very naive. There are other performers but they just haven’t been caught yet in a public way. I guess everyone just acts like it’s okay to make guesses on blind gossips about beating girlfriends but still be a fan of the person you guess beat their g/f. Just as long as it doesn’t become public it’s okay?

  13. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

@Bonnie- So if we don’t know about the beatings of other performers, why should we dislike them? Your argument makes no sense!

I despise any man that takes a hand to a woman. Period!

  14. GatsbyGal says:

So he’ll cry because MJ, a dude he maybe talked to twice ever, died. But he can’t seem to muster up any tears or human emotion over violently beating his girlfriend.

I don’t buy for a second that he is capable of feeling sadness for anyone or anything other than himself. If (a big IF) the tears were real, he was only crying because he thought “yes, this is my comeback, this is MY moment.”

  15. denise says:

I’m probably in the minority here, but I actually like Chris Brown. I like his music and he is an awesome dancer. One thing is for sure, he is very talented. I hope he does’nt screw up again, but I’m not crossing my fingers.

  16. snowball says:

I always thought he either faked it or at the very least, grossly exaggerated his little breakdown to garner an emotional reaction.

However, although I absolutely cannot and will never condone anyone laying a hand on someone else, regardless of that person’s gender, are we going to vilify him for the rest of his life?

I’ll even grant that he followed up with some massively douchey behavior, earning his crappy album sales and dead tour. He’s been punished. Absolutely. And this little stunt at the BET awards was ridiculous. He’s a juvenile moron. But at some point, it’d be nice if he can get past being known as something other than the guy that smacked Rihanna.

    R. Kelly seems to be doing just fine and look what he did.

  17. BlackMamba says:

Kaiser CB was not crying about MJ but about his career. It seemed genuine but I think it was for the wrong reasons because it wasn’t that he felt bad about beating his girlfriend but about his career/love from the odience/the fact that he was allowed to performed etc…

  18. lrm says:

my first thought when i read this headline: ‘of course he did’.

  19. qb says:

He really loved MJ and Mj seem to like him too.

Back when he was 18 , he was on sweet 16 and his birthday theme was based on a MJ song and MJ actually called him during his birthday.

He was also in MJ funeral.

I think the tears were genuine other things he has done not much but I think he was really emotional.

    He was a total fanboy.

  20. jane says:

I really, really dislike this kid, but come on…you’ll buy any bad news about him because you dislike him? Ugh. If you’re going to dislike them, dislike them for something true. I believe it was genuine. Just cos the kids a butthead doesnt mean he doesnt have idols and can’t be moved by something.

  21. zen says:

    Phoney! phoney! phoney!
not buying it. Its nothing but an act to try and make a comeback.

  22. aury says:

“Did Chris Brown use eye drops to fake-cry at the BET Awards?”

honestly, i wouldn’t put it past the self-absorbed little shit.

  23. Cletus says:

“He rubbed it in and started crying” is freaking HILARIOUS.

  24. TQB says:

@denise, I don’t think you’re the minority. He is a talented person. So was Ike Turner. Still a monster.

A more interesting conversation would be, all theatrics and tears aside, what crimes can you/should you be able to be forgiven for if you are an artist? Clearly we forgive or at least overlook the DUIs, drug crimes and even brawls or low-level assault (Russell Crowe with the phone, anyone?) or vehicular homicide (Vince Neil and more than I can think of). Do we forgive Roman Polanski?

  25. gg says:

What really infuriates me is that he dramatically wipes his eyes, just to make sure everybody caught the “crying”, and THEN comes back out and makes a huge deal about “letting people down” by being “emotional”.

If all that were real it would have been far harder to detect the upset. He’s incredibly stupid.

  26. Iggles says:

TQB – Love the Ike Turner comparison

Indeed, one can be talented and still be a douche. It happens everyday. I don’t know why some people feel that talent should absolve people of crimes.

  27. RhymesWithSilver says:

This reeks of publicity set-up. Chris Brown singing “I’m looking at the man in the mirror…I’m asking him to change his ways…”, with tears in his eyes, like “Oh my gosh- this song is about ME! I need to CHANGE!” But it’s all surface- the guy has no depth, no real remorse that I can see just yet. Let him play country buffet floorshows for the rest of his life. Bleh!

  28. denise says:

Talent does not trump all. Ike was a habitual abuser, as far as we know, Chris did this once.
I don’t think Chris should be persecuted for the rest of his life. “If” he is genuinely sorry, than he should be given a second chance.
Roman Polanski should never be forgiven. Pedophilia is much more heinous than what Chris did.

  29. Solo says:

I’m with Denise. I like CB he is very talented and I think that everyone set out to blame him when they both admitted to hitting each other. I am not condoning what he did but I think that some responsibility should be placed on her too as they BOTH admitted that this was not the first time that they both layed hands on each other. Besides he is only 21 and has a lot of growing uo to do – hopefully he learned his lesson.

  30. denise says:

Yes Solo. People seem to forget that Rihanna hit Chris too, she actually began the fight. I’m just saying, don’t hit someone repeatedly and not expect to get the same in return. Both parties should have respected one another.

  31. Iggles says:

    @ denise:
Talent does not trump all. Ike was a habitual abuser, as far as we know*, Chris did this once.

    * Emphasize added in bold.

Right, as far as we know. Cars don’t go from zero to 100 mph. To think one goes from being non-abusive to punching, biting, nearly choking their girlfriend to death is so naive.

If someone commits murder one time, should they get a second chance?

My analogies point out your faulty logic.

    EDITED to add:
denise and solo – Even if she hit him first, the force Chris used was excessive. She is no match for him physically (especially because he’s a trained martial artist). It’s like bringing AK-47s to a school yard fight. Your excuses are sounding even more ridiculous as time goes on…

  32. Vajayjay says:

Why did he get to do a tribute to the King of Pop? What a disgrace!!!

  33. gg says:

Oh, denise — don’t start the ‘she hit him first’ crap. That is a non-argument.

  34. denise says:

    @ Iggles

We are not his judge and jury. Let the boy be judged on his future actions.

  35. julie says:

Its not like theres any shortage of singers out there. I cant believe people are defending him. Hes a grown man and he cried on TV. How does this help his “street cred”? Hes pathetic. Theres many singers waiting in the wings for their break. Hopefully, this poor excuse for a “man” will go away and someone else will take his place.

  36. Katija says:

OK, sorry to use all caps, but THERE ARE NO TEARS. I’ve seen no photos with actual wetness on his face. He’s just making a contorted John Mayer face.

  37. Katija says:

    @Iggles

I agree with everything you say. We should start an anti-defending Chris Brown coalition, LOL.

Plus, there is no evidence that she hit him first. The ONLY thing we know for sure is that Rihanna looked like she had been thrown two flights of stairs, and whatever happened to make her look like that happened inside a CAR.

The judge who gave Weepy a little community service instead of hard jail time (with a cellmate named Bubba, preferably) should take a long hard look in the mirror. Justice was NOT served.

  38. lucy2 says:

I think a big part of the problem is that he’s done a lot of whining about how his career has been messed up and everyone’s mean to him. He really should have dropped off the radar for a while, or at least have not thrown hissy fits every time something didn’t go his way.

She may have hit him too, which I agree was wrong of her, but the reports of her injuries make me think it was a VERY uneven fight, beyond self defense.

  39. nicki says:

I would not put it past Chris Brown to do this; use fake tears to “cry” on cue!!! Chris’ career has taken a nosedive since his FELONY ASSAULT conviction and his “crying” was to garner sympathy from the public and to make us believe that he has really changed. What really angers me is that after the assault, I never ONCE saw him shed tears over what HE did and believe me if there was ONE video of proof that he was remorseful, his PR camp would have milked it for all it was worth; there were several pictures of him vacationing in Miami on jet-skies as if he didn’t have a care in the world. Chris thought he was MR. UNTOUCHABLE and assumed that it would all blow over but he was wrong. Chris has only himself to blame for his career or lack thereof; HE chose to break the law, HE never thought about Rihanna and what SHE would have to deal with, and I’m sure SHE hasn’t gotten over it and probably thinks about it EVERY day!!! I use to be a Chris Brown fan but I can’t support someone who beats women and aren’t in control of their emotions. I have often wondered what would have happened to Rihanna if they would not have been in the closed confines of a vehicle, but rather in her apartment, his or wherever…..can you imagine what HE would have done to her if he was able to use both of his arms, hands and legs, HELL she probably would have ended up DEAD!!!! But I’m sure his fans would have said, well SHE had it comin!!!!!!

  40. chino says:

Anyone ever stop to think that maybe Chris just happened to be deeply affected by the lyrics to the song? “Man in the Mirror” is a really reflective song. Perhaps the lyrics, in addition to MJ’s death, in addition to the mistakes Chris made, all just got to him at once. Everyone is so quick to defame people! I actually could give a $#!+ about Chris Brown, but I do know that song is powerful, and I’ve been brought to tears from hearing it. Stop jumping to conclusions! I’m sure Michael isn’t up in Heaven judging him!

  41. Iggles says:

denise – He is NOT a boy. He’s a 21 year old MAN.
BTW, when he attacked Rihanna at the age of 19 he was legally an adult then too.

    Thanks Katija.

    nicki – Co-sign.
You paint a really frightening picture. I am so glad that it didn’t happen somewhere secluded and that people in the area called the police. I’m sure she isn’t over it either. :'(

  42. denise says:

    @ Iggles

Are we without fault? Have you ever made a mistake and needed someone’s forgiveness? I hope that when you do, they are not as judgemental as you.
Regardless of Chris’s age, he still has a lot of growing up to do. That night, they both made big mistakes. Hopefully they have BOTH learned from them.

  43. KIm says:

I believe Chris was cryimg because he was overwhelmingly accepted by his people @the BET awards . Stay strong Chris

  44. GatsbyGal says:

@Denise – Leaving your purse at a restaurant is a mistake. Accidently deleting pictures from your camera is a mistake. Leaving your shoes out in the middle of the floor and then having someone trip on them is a mistake.

Beating someone, ANYONE, is NOT a “mistake.”

I agree with you that Rihanna should not have hit him to begin with. But Chris Brown was 19, he was an ADULT, and he CHOSE to hit her back. And he did a lot more than hit! What did HIS face look like after the altercation? There wasn’t a scratch on him. She threw a knife, he threw a fucking atom bomb. There’s no excuse for that, ever.

  45. Melanie says:

So let me understand this you know this story isn’t true but you want it to be true because you don’t like Chris Brown…..classy.

Anyway I think some of you take the CB hate too far. If Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn were as hated as CB after continuously being involved in domestic disputes I would have no problem with it but the more I see people attacking this kid the more I feel its not fair.

  46. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

I think both Penn and Sheen are pieces of shit! I am boycottinG CBS because of giving that woman beater Sheen more money and continuing his show. I have not watched a Penn movie since Mystic River, and the only reason I watched it was because Eastwood directed it. All women beating men should never be forgiven. They are control freak pigs, and disgusting excuses for human beings!

  47. denise says:

    @ GAtsby
Yes Chris was 19, Rihanna was 20 almost 21, when this happened.
At the age of 19 most males are still very immature and without life experience. Age does’nt make you an adult necessarily.

  48. Melanie says:

Yes but the media has already forgiven Charlie Sheen no one ever bashes him like this young man is constantly attacked. Now they are questioning the sincerity of his tears for his idol. that is taking it too far imo.

Maybe its a race issue and because CB is black the media feels the need to destroy him but let other white celebrities get off without a problem for the same offense.
I think a lot of people need to look at why they hate Chris Brown but still support Charlie Sheen, Sean Penn, Eminem, and Tommy Lee. Could it be………..racism?? Shock!!!

  49. Iggles says:

    GatsbyGal – Thank you! Co-sign 100%

When Chris Brown talks about this incident he uses a passive voice (such as, “I’m sorry for what happened”). His defenders do the same thing. Chris Brown is not a victim! Rihanna is.

There’s a clear difference and it’s so sad that some folks are so far gone that can’t see this!

denise – A mistake is something unintentional. A brutal attack (YES, that’s what this was) is a choice.

    Let’s review:
Beating Rihanna — Chris’s choice (the way he chose to express his anger at the time)
His career being derailed by nearly killing her — That was a mistake. He didn’t intend for that to happen..

  50. TQB says:

@Melanie, you make a good point about Charlie Sheen – look what happens when people ignore this stuff. He has never been at all remorseful about what he’s done (including SHOOTING Kelly Preston!) – he’s never had to. And now he’s not just an abuser, but a HABITUAL abuser, who correctly believes he can get away with it.

I have no interest in hating on Chris Brown for the rest of his life. I believe he is young and talented, and that people who earn forgiveness should get it. But he has done nothing to show that he has learned from his mistakes or that he is remorseful for anything other than the damage he did to his career.

Edit to add: Absolutely agree that if CB were white, the media would have abandoned this long ago. That doesn’t excuse what he did, it just makes them complicit in the cover-ups of others. Go read the Mel Gibson post if you want another awesome example.

  51. denise says:

    @ Melanie

    Very good point.

Now I have to be on my way.

  52. canadianchick says:

@sarah-cosign, CB as a woman-beater paying tribute to a pedophile. The public disgust is good because it’ll make CB think twice about doing it to another woman. I don’t like any gender hitting their partner, but CB had more power than her and it showed in those photos.

  53. Iggles says:

Melanie – I usually don’t repost. However, for your cries of “it’s RACISM” this applies..
    ______________

That’s a load of CRAP!!! So because he’s black we’re supposed to be ok with him nearly killing his girlfriend??????

Rihanna is a BLACK WOMAN yet Chris Brown sympathizers can’t seem to muster the smallest bit of EMPATHY for her. This makes me sick.

Black women are beaten, killed, robbed, raped, etc EVERY DAY yet that’s somehow par for the course. But let a black male who is a CONVICTED FELON face any hardship and watch how many people from the black community rally around the CRIMINAL and scream racism.

There are so many causes more deserving than the Chris Brown sympathy project. Wake up.

  54. Kitten says:

“Maybe its a race issue and because CB is black the media feels the need to destroy him but let other white celebrities get off without a problem for the same offense.”

This was already addressed in another post-not a race issue imo. AHEM-KOBE BRYANT. PLEASE. This man is literally worshipped after sexually assaulting a woman. Snoop after being brought up on murder charges- has his own family reality tv show. Um, OJ got AWAY WITH MURDER. I hate all equally but don’t even start with the race thing because for every example I can give a counter-example. People who want to forgive Kobe are Lakers fans, people who want to forgive Chris Brown are CB fans and people who want to forgive Sheen are Two Men-and-whatever-the-hell-his horrible-show-is-called fans. i mean, people forgive who they want to forgive for various reasons..

  55. Solo says:

@Melanie I am so happy that you brought that up. These men that you mentioned are grown and unrepentant.

@ everyone saying that this is not a race issue – come on are you guys for real?

@ Kitten – all those incidents you named are great examples only they are inflamitory. We know that race is always an issue in the USA. Don’t agree? Look at who is incarcerated in our prisons? Many minorities in the USA live a second class like life here.

  56. gg says:

Sorry but I have extreme scorn for ANYBODY that beats up or abuses their partner no matter what their color.

I will not watch Sean Penn, Charlie Scumbag Sheen, Chris Brown, or any of those creeps.

Also, Solo, I won’t be held responsible for whatever judges out in LA and media types do. Nor, probably, will anybody else who is informally chatting on this website. I don’t control them, I can only be fair in my own way, which is antiviolence, and speak out against it. As to this article, the evidence is stacked HIGH against this jerk; it’s not racism. Being obtuse about Chris Brown is not helping your point.

  57. Anna says:

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who sees Sheen and Penn for the D-bags they are.

  58. Kitten says:

    ^Agree with above-post entirely 🙂
@solo-I wasn’t saying racism isn’t a problem simply stating that this is not an incident of racism (IMO) and to call it such is detracting from issues that truly stem from racism.

  59. gg says:

I would also add that racism is NOT “we know … always an issue in the USA”.

How would you know that? Just because there are a lot of “minorities”, as you put it, incarcerated? Do you attend every hearing in the USA and can say they are ALL in there simply because of race? Tell me why white people are incarcerated as well, then, please, I’m all ears.

  60. Nibbi says:

it’s total crap to say the CB thing is about racism. such. total. crap. i am 100% that if i saw shocking photos of whatever white dude’s gf beaten to a pulp i’d think he was a shitty bastard too, and i don’t give a damn if he’s a celebrity or he’s white she’s white or he’s white she’s black GIVE ME A BREAK. you people are so boring bringing race into ev.er.y.thing. it’s like it’s inevitable that if some non-white person is being vilified in the news for anything whatsoever, the issue of racism has GOT to come up, and i’m sorry here i see no logical reason why it necessarily would. people saw those photos! that’s why they hate him! and his dumbassed subsequent behavior has not helped in the slightest. (yah, even this business about paying tribute to his idol, which on paper seemed kind of touching to me, starts to fall into that category – grr what else bugs is that i originally just was gonna comment on whether i thought the crying was overdramatic or faked when i watched the clip and here i am reacting to this issue againnnn!)

  61. Nibbi says:

also, i totally think that Kitten makes a good point. it’s clear that serious problems with racism do exist, but let’s keep clear eyes about what they are.

  62. Ally says:

I can’t believe this discussion. When a woman cries on the job, she’s considered an emotional loser who can’t handle her responsibilities.

But when an admitted abuser cries on national TV (looked to me cause he couldn’t get in tune), that’s a direct route to total absolution & amnesia?

    Huh? Definitely not.

  63. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

    Lots of interesting things.

You hear so often about the rift between black men and women, well, there’s a whole library of discussion about that, but you have to admit, ‘we’ can be vicious towards towards black women. I’m (not) sorry, but if anyone says ‘she had it coming’ or ‘you’ve got take what she gave’, or ‘she was acting like a man’ you’re not my sister or brother. I have enough blood relatives of various races to beat the band, I need people in my life who support me, not ones who will turn every situation into a platform to rail against anyone who has ever done harm to a poor widdle milkaholic ego. Compassion and condoning are not the same thing, and I simply can’t be assed with thinking that doesn’t acknowledge that.

I was basically taught not to give any current or would-be detractors fodder, but to give them pause. Does that mean more work on my end because I’m a female and minority? Yes. Also, headline news: the gelatin transaction has failed, people. We’re stick stuck breathing air. I’m now, I’m sorry. It’s probably my fault, somehow.

Also, Charlie Sheen carried out just a portion of this kind of odious shit while being a person of colour, do I think he would he have a career today? No. The end. I know that there can be a tendency to ‘play the race card’–as it were, to absolve themselves of responsibility. Heck, I never said the world is made of heroes, but I don’t know why so many people have such a vested interest in ‘re-educating’ us on our own lives and experience. I sure hear a lot of ‘experts’ tell me what’s what about ‘my country’ on a very frequent basis. Feh. Toronto is freaking Malibu compared to where I grew up (in the Snow Belt: it’s real, and it delivers what it promises).

It’s funny how a person’s age can suddenly take on these shape-shifting and mystical properties based on the argument. How much you hate the person defines how much of an ‘adult’ they seem to be.

  64. Ruffian9 says:

“chino:Anyone ever stop to think that maybe Chris just happened to be deeply affected by the lyrics to the song?”

    Nope.

  65. Ruffian9 says:

    GatsbyGal:July 1st, 2010 at 1:49 pm

    THIS

  66. Jeri says:

Poor Poor Chris. BooHoo. He must have spread rumors Rhianna hit him first cuz it comes up from posters but it is never in any legitimate press.

  67. Persistent Cat says:

My brother-in-law pulled that kind of shit at my wedding. He gave a reading and in the middle, he had to stop and dramatically wipe a tear. He wasn’t moved at his little brother getting married, he wanted the attention. None of us could look at each other because we were going to burst out laughing because we knew what he was doing (note he gave a reading and wasn’t in the wedding party).

I hate the argument of “Charlie Sheen or Sean Penn get away with it.” Maybe they do but no one here is supporting it so you’re argument is moot. As is the race issue. It’s money and power, not race. If Chris Brown had Jay-Z’s power, it would’ve all blown over and he’d be headlining a world tour right now.

I have no forgiveness for abusers. And if you start to feel a little sympathy for him, just remember the picture of Rhianna’s face. http://youthincontrol.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/rihanna-beat-up.jpg

    That’s not a mistake.

  68. Camille says:

    lucy2:
July 1st, 2010 at 10:27 am- Agree totally.

And also- Tommy Lee actually did time in prison for his crime, so at least he has paid somewhat for his crime.

  69. MissyA says:

I saw the clip, and the tears looked fairly sincere. . .

But I question the mens rea of any woman-beating creep.

This man is a slimy piece of trash.

Anyone who believes that he ought to be judged not on the act of physically assaulting the woman he claimed to have loved, but on his resultant actions. . . Here’s a hint: Agreeing to be featured in an internationally broadcasted memorial after your career has hit the toilet does not denote humility.

Race has nothing to do with being an unrepentant, woman-beating piece of shit. You insult our collective intelligence to suggest otherwise.

    >>my first thought when i read this headline: ‘of course he did’. <<

Signed. And I’m sorry, after reading comments on the Mel Gibson story as well as the previous Chris Brown story, I am angry.

Guess what, CB apologists?! The world is not a Sunday School class. You bet your sweet ass I feel entitled to judge any person who admits to felony battery of a much smaller and weaker human being.

And I’ll give you another hint as to why men who beat women are so despised… because it’s a situation of the strong preying on the weak. Chris Brown doesn’t deserve the benefit of any doubt. He ADMITTED to beating the crap out of his girlfriend. These aren’t unproven allegations.

If, and it is an extremely big IF, Rihanna did anything to Chris Brown on the night in question, all he had to do was put her out of his car. Just walk (drive) away from the situation. FURTHERMORE, if you don’t think the police looked to see if Chris Brown was also injured, you don’t know anything about how domestic violence cases are treated these days. Obviously he didn’t try to make the argument that “she hit me first” like a friggin’ toddler, so it infuriates me that his fans try that crap.

People need to seriously grow up.

  72. kim says:

    hahaha

my sister and I were watching that screaming, “He’s a fuckn’ actor!!!” We’ve seen movies with him, he’s a good actor. “Those tears are complete bullshit!!”

  73. Kelaa Khaa says:

TBQ you make an excellent point.

  74. Kelaa Khaa says:

TBQ you make an excellent point. Also just curious about what mens rea is?

  75. Lizzard says:

I’m not sure if I buy that he added tear drops before he got out. I’ve seen the clips and it made me sick, he was clearly over-acting his whole emotional breakdown for it to not raise a few eyebrows. I think he did this to try to cry real tears.

He’s had a couple of decent songs, but I can’t listen to them anymore, thinking of what he did makes me cringe and the fact that he got off with basically a slap on the wrist, fines, and community service is baffling.

Rhianna, Jay-Z and Beyonce boycotted the BETs because he was going to be performing. I think BET made a mistake and anyone that would want to accept Chris’s come-back because of some tears over MJ is completely insane. How can he expect people can forgive him for paying tribute to MJ and crying if they hadn’t forgiven him yet?

  76. Crash2GO2 says:

The picture of Rhianna’s face was key I think in the outrage that followed this particular beating. I think if someone had posted pics of Brooke Mueller beaten to within an inch of her life, Charlie Sheen’s acting career would have been OVER. But he is *just* that much smarter than Chris, and held a knife to her throat. Nothing that would show…

  77. Kelaa Khaa says:

Jo Mama I enjoy your posts and this one is really good. Isaiah washington is an excellent actor (after he left Greys I stopped watching) who was skewed in the media for a comment, yet Charlie Sheen has done despicable things and keeps his media popularity and his livelihood and there is rumor that he once killed a prostitute and got away with it.

Your post got me thinking about my cousin, who is bi-racial. My grandma, a staid white english woman raised him and he grew up in a neighbourhood with mostly white people living there.

When, as a teenager, travelling with friends, he would be the one questioned by the cops when the car was pulled over.

People would ask where he was from and they would be annoyed when he said his home town and not from some exotic country.

When grandma was dying, the nurses thought he and his wife were the servants even though he and his wife were the ones that lived with her and cared for her. No such assumptions were made when the white relatives, some of whom hadn’t seen grandma for years, visited.

I have really been enjoying reading this debate and it is very interesting how one issue can turn into a dichotomy.

And the comments here are really good and I learn alot from reading this site.

  78. Persistent Cat says:

The Isaiah Washington argument doesn’t work. If he was headlining movies, he’d still be there (as long as he wanted to be). Charlie Sheen is awful but for whatever reason, people watch his awful show. I’ve had to “hide” friends on FB who won’t shut up about how funny that show is.

The entertainment industry will support whatever brings the money in. Look at the Celebitchy post earlier about Tom Cruise needing a hit or he’d be dropped. It’s not race, it’s what brings in the $$$$. Chris Brown was not bankable enough to support.

  79. misskay says:

Oh my goodness, I HATE him and I completely buy that he faked it. Unfortunately, it was a pretty smart move on the part of his PR team. I’m glad US Weekly published the story. He’s an abuser, he’s violent, and he’s DANGEROUS.

By the way, I suggest everyone goes to US Weekly’s site to read the story. In the comments there are a ton of positive comments supporting Chris…his PR team is working overtime to make it seem like the public supports him. Seriously, for a while like 75% of the comments were pro-Chris Brown. From the comments on this site, it seems that is not the general sentiment. So glad to see that (real) people aren’t forgiving this bstard. Personally, I was angry to see him even included in the tribute…he doesn’t deserve to be performing at the BET Awards much less doing an MJ tribute..

  80. misskay says:

Sorry, to clarify I meant that Chris Brown’s PR team is obviously posting multiple comments on the US Weekly story because there is a suspiciously high number of pro-Chris comments. I was SO relieved to read the comments posted here because while reading the “leave Chris alone he’s innocent” comments, I had a losing-all-faith-in-humanity moment. But you know he’s desperately trying to save his career…meanwhile Rihanna’s career is hot. Talk about karma

  81. Aspie says:

I really like this website but thing that continues to bother me is the double standard when it comes to certain celebrities.

Why is CB so hated on here but Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn are not hated for the abuse they inflicted on their partners?

Geez, CB is 21 years old and has ALOT of learning and growing to still do, he’s not old enough to know better completely, unlike Sean and Charlie.

It sickens me the way some on here want to throw Chris away in jail for the rest of his life. He made a mistake. He didn’t kill anyone. No one is perfect. Maybe he did use fake tears but we’ll never know for sure. Maybe he did want to pay a tribute to Michael Jackson, whom he admitted was a huge idol of his. There’s not alot of stories on here noting his admiration of Michael so people just want to assume negative things about him. Chris is very talented and he imitated Michael alot with his dance skills but that’s not discussed in this story, only the fact that he “supposedly” used fake tears. Where’s the fair balance in this story?

Why is Chris Brown hated so much on this site and yet Sean and Charlie (and so many others that we don’t know about and some I can’t think of right now) aren’t? Why does this double standard continue to exist among certain stars, some seemingly due to color?

  82. Shannon says:

So he not only beat his girlfriend, but now he’s taking advantage of the publicity related to Michael Jackson’s death a in a desperate bid for attention? And he’s CRYING about it?

So messed up. Make him go away. Please stop writing about him.

Aspie, nobody is saying we want to put Chris Brown in jail. We’re saying stop giving him MILLIONS OF DOLLARS because he doesn’t deserve to be famous after what he did! Neither does Charlie Sheen, or any other dick who dares to physically assault the woman he claims to love.

  83. GatsbyGal says:

@Aspie – You’re obviously not here a lot, because every time there’s a Charlie Sheen/Sean Penn story, we rail on them too.

  84. Iggles says:

    @ Aspie:
Why is CB so hated on here but Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn are not hated for the abuse they inflicted on their partners?

Scroll up and read the comments from the beginning. This has been addressed several times.

  85. Trashaddict says:

2nd what Iggles said: I don’t care if a guy is white, black, polka-dotted or chartreuse, if he beats up on ANYBODY he is a douchebag in my book.
Yes there are race issues in America. Yes, it’s appalling that Charlie Sheen is still employed. But NOT with the sympathies of many readers on this site.
I do think blacks are more likely to be assumed guilty before the evidence is out, and have a harder time putting scandals behind them. But I get sick and tired of the assumption that the entire white race is covering up for each other for the sake of assholes like Charlie Sheen, or that all whites are cooperating in a plot to wreck Chris Brown’s career. (He didn’t need a push from anyone to do that). Talk about freaking generalizations. Grow up already.

  86. Ophelia says:

Oh ffs. A mistake is like an accident. An accident implies the act wasn’t on purpose. Hitting someone repeatedly in the face while driving and threatening to kill them and then leaving them unconscious and bloody seems kinda like an act with intention, ie, not a mistake/accident. So really, stop saying, “Everybody makes mistakes!” as if you just might beat someone to a bloody pulp if you’re not careful.
And @Sarah, way up towards the top, I like what you said. A woman beater tributing a pedophile.

  87. Kitten says:

Again, race being brought into this issue at all is pretty unbelievable to me. If people are racist for condemming Chris Brown and not Charlie Sheen then people are sexist for supporting Chris Brown (as a man) and not Rihanna (as a woman). Or racist AND sexist because Rihanna is a black woman. Don’t you see that this is why people are upset?? A MAN beat a WOMAN. That’s what this is about. Why race was brought into it I will never know..This whole incident (imo) is about domestic abuse, NOT racism. We’re losing sight of this..

  88. Melanie says:

I still say Racism is a factor no one wants to acknowledge what Charlie Sheen did and his sincerity but when it comes to Chris Brown hes a social pariah.

It sounds like an awful double standard is going on and I see a lot of people throwing around excuses about why they don’t care about Charlie sheen and Sean Penn but feel the need to crucify Chris Brown.
I hope some of you look in the mirror and hope you never have to deal with such a double standard in your life.

  89. Nikki says:

I should think, that everyone who is still crucifying Chris, has never done any thing wrong. We all have to learn to forgive, cause guess what God forgives everyone who comes to him for forgiveness. I believe that if that the only forgiveness he should worry about is God’s. He will never be able please anyone cause the general public thinks they are perfect. As Jesus says ” he who is without sin, cast the first stone.”

  90. nya says:

everyone in that is putin down cb knows that they done some bad stuff before and before any of yall say not as bad as wat he did so wat!!! god forgives and so do many other ppl that arnt spending their cuality time trashing on some1, and before any of yall sound lamer then yall alredy do just move on wit ur life it does not envovle u so spend ur time doin somthin beter wit ur time than putin down somone abt a situation dat does not consern u watsoever

  91. JaNa'e says:

It’s been extremely obvious since the ‘incident’ occurred that the media began a radical slur campaign against Chris. No one takes into account the two previously recorded incidents that were revealed in court both of which claimed that she hit him first on multiple occasions and not once did he hit her(in one case it’s claimed that he pushed her away from him, and in another smashed a car window but not once did he hit her.) it was reported for two years that she was beating him up and because he finally snapped on her he’s suddenly been proclaimed a monster. Yes he was wrong, but so was SHE. This is the fact that people seem to forget and it’s not as if the man tried to convince the world that he was innocent. HE PLEADED GUILTY, owned up to his part of the situation in every interview and has since been trying to turn his life around. Since then every bit of good he’s done has been slandered by the media. First his charity work is blasted as a publicity stunt to get back into hollyweird’s good graces. Then his reading to children is frowned upon because he’s a ‘dangerous criminal’ (let’s remember that MAJORITY of the men in Hollywood have some sort of criminal record). and now because his BET performance was good people are trying to strip it of any sort credibility by saying his tears were fake. LEAVE THE MAN ALONE. If you’re going to point the finger at him then you must also turn around and point at yourselves because no one in this world is innocent.

  92. Ciara says:

I am really annoyed by half the people who left ignorant comments about Chris Brown. The whole eye-drop thing..its crazy. I was there in the crowd of fans in front of the performance stage, and where i was i saw everything on the side. He never once went far back. Jermaine Jackson was standing on the side, with 2 bige guys and a lady, and never once did Breezy put anythyng to his eye. there was a lil light and it was a clear view where he was standing. People all of a sudden start hating this man because he beat on his girl…Mike Tyson beat on his girls, and people still love him to this day. Ike beat on Tina, and that beating was continuous and made known to the public, but u still like Ike! R. Kelly and a host of other celebs, having intercourse with underage girls is the worst thing that could happen to a young girl, but nobody is hating on them, everybody still love them all!!! Chris brown is human just like any other person! everybody who commented on this bullsh*t, has did wrong, had messed sumbody up in a fight, boy or girl!!! This man still getting money, still got more than u all who hating him has. People just dont get it…and never will…waste your ignorance on other things. yall know yall still be jamin to CB music!!! DUECES

  93. Music says:

I can’t believe some of the comments here. This is Chris Brown stuff is not about race, its about his VICIOUS assualt on his girlfriend. Did race matter when his albums were selling out the stores? When his tour was filled with thousands upon thousands of white girls? No. So why does it matter that he is getting bashed?

I’m half black and I find him repuslive. Do I think people deserve second chances? Sure. Do I think some people deserve what they get the FIRST time? HELL YES! If Rihanna died would we be even having this convo? Probably because some people are so IGNORANT to the fact that just because a person has talent, they should get a pass for doing criminal acts! Did he step on Rihanna dress? No. Did he accidently push her down? No. Did he TRY to choke/bit her fingers/ punch her face a bunch of times until her mom couldn’t recognize her? I think so. You cant call that a mistake nor something that you didn’t mean to happen those were things CB CHOSE to do. His career has taken the beating it deserved and will continue to do so.

Just because Charlie Sheen dumb ass continues to get away with things, dosen’t mean Chris should. Maybe if Sheen had the same tough love that the public gave Robert Downey Jr and other stars, he wouldn’t be a douche bag now. If Chris really took a look at the “Man in the Mirror” He should change and NOT think some fake tears “For MJ” is going to put him on top again. I believe his tears might been real but he wasn’t crying for Michael, but for himself. If he think a show watched by a few million viewers and HALF of them think he is full of crap, is going to make this go away he is dumber then he was that night he beat the hell out of a woman that is 120 pounds soaking wet.

  94. Anon says:

Hmm, must be a good shot getting those drops in without a mirror and everyone watching him like a hawk, and knowing he is being taped. Strangely though, it is a dry cry still. Young men and women need to learn violence or emotional abuse is not the answer. I hope Chris Brown finds a mentor that understands about giving a hand to a young person with a troubled past so he learn to change and C.B. pays it forward, breaking the cycle.

  95. Boombeeba says:

I love all the “pc” race card “pullers” in here claiming that if Chris Brown were white he wouldve been treated better bc the situation, when in FACT the whole purpose & reason this thread even exists is because a man WHO was BLACK (despite his obvious disdain & self loathing nature) aka MICHAEL JACKSON had a dance tribute commemorated to him for The anniversary of his death. Michael Jackson of all people throughout the years of accusations & lawsuits on behalf of his pedophiliac nature, was somehow able to convince millions of sheeples around the world that his “music” contributions eclipsed his sick sexual obsession with young boys. People don’t care that MJ was black, or hated his blackness, or loved little boys rectums. He was an icon for other reasonS. Therefore This had nothing to do with the fact that Chris brown is BROWN moreso the fact that he is a grade a DOUCHE. That Is All…

  96. Lola says:

WHAT AN IDIOT THIS GUY. DUDE, GET OVER IT! YOUR CAREER IS NON-EXISTENT, YOU SHOULD BE IN JAIL!

  97. Kayla BadAss says:

Ok yall need to give Chris Brown a break. Damn I dont think he faked it. But even if he did so what? You people are trying to take his whole life away from him because of one mistake. Get the fuck over it everyone makes mistakes let this man live his life.

  98. Muffy says:

Wrong! I know it kills you all but was real! HaHa.

Chris was crazy about MJ and vise versa. And to all the hypocrites who keep saying, “I hate Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn too.” Man, Please! No you do not. You don’t give a rat’s ass about the countless other men and women who have done it. Penn has a freakin’ Oscar, and Sheen gets a million an episode and has the highest rated show on the tube. People want Chris Brown to be their poster child for DV, even though he doesn’t have a record. I love how they ignore everything saint Rihanna has said or done. You hate him more than E.T.’s baby sis. God Bless America.
