“Idol Gives Back” Videos, featuring Brad Pitt, Carrie Underwood & Miley Cyrus

Thanks to The Huffington Post for putting together these videos of last night’s star studded “Idol Gives Back.” A lot of the human interest segments made me cry so hard and I am bawling as I write this, having just watched Annie Lennox’s segment. You can donate at AmericanIdol.com.

Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue. He jokes about Simon’s nipples and bad haircut. They discuss mobile medical units for Americans without health insurance. Simon visits a single mom with lupus raising a daughter with rheumatoid arthritis and a son with pins in his legs.

Miley Cyrus performs “See You Again”

Mariah Carey performs “Fly Like a Bird”

Robin Williams is a stupid Russian character in a bit that goes on way too long.

Fergie and Heart perform “Barracuda”

Brad Pitt gets his microphone put on, and introduces Daughtry’s video featuring footage from their trip to Uganda set to “What About Now?”

Carrie Underwood with an incredible performance of George Michael’s “Praying for Time”

Teri Hatcher sings “Before He Cheats.” She’s a surprisingly good singer.

David and Victoria Beckham in a taped appeal.

Shiela E and Gloria Estefan perform “Get On Your Feet”

Alicia Keys talks about her trip to Africa. She said “It’s crazy when you think about it, how you can change the lives of people forever for the price of a pair of shoes. Because of the AIDS epidemic there are 13 million children orphaned.” She showed a grandmother who lost all four of her children to AIDS and is now raising 8 grandchildren. She said “If AIDS got 1/2 the attention the media gives to celebrity dramas, this issue would be well on it’s way to being solved.”

Bono and Annie Lennox in Africa. Bono talks to a young boy who lost both his parents to AIDS. Annie Lennox talks to a family of four brothers in South Africa who have lost all their relatives to AIDS. The oldest is 15. Annie took them to get tested for HIV and they’re all negative. She said “across Africa, children are living like this. Their parents could still be with them if only they’d been diagnosed and given the treatment they need.”

AI Contestants sing “Seasons of Love”

Sheila E, Gloria Estefan and the Wilson sisters . . . HOT!!

    The rest, not so much.

Personally, I am getting so tired of Brad Pitt and his “humanitarian” work. On one side I respect anyone (famous or not) who does good work and chooses to help people, but lets be honest I often get the feeling that the only reason Brad Pitt is doing this is because of Angelina and to re-built his reputation of that good guy image that he had before he cheated (yes I convicted he cheated on JA, but still do not care that much to go into details). He does not seem to be that much passionate of what he does as he acts up to be, I suppose what annoys me the most is that he gets so much publicity and credit for things that so many other people do as well for charity.

personally, i don’t care if a person is an egotistical, selfish, self-centered egomaniac who makes the greedy green grinch with his tiny little too small heart look like mother teresa in comparison. if they do good things, no matter what their motivation, good for them.

  4. Enonymous says:

Plus, with all this effort and all the publicity and credit Brad Pitt gets does he actually makes any difference or is it just for his own benefit. We always hear about celebrities giving this amount and doing that cause but we rarely hear about the end results, if the money they suppose gave or the attention they brought actually made a difference in the charity they support.

It just seems with all this celebrities and politicians that have hoped into this ‘humanitarian’ bandwagon at the moment there is still hardly any difference or improvement to be made. They are all words and hardly any action.

    Disgusting,

Real musicians are sweating their asses off paying their dues in slimy dives, cheap hotels, and smoke-filled bars selling hand-made CDs out of the trunk of their cars to scrape by and the recording industry stabs them in the gut by legitimizing this ‘fame lottery’ on TV for the last what- 5 years now?

  6. Sarah says:

Is that James Denton and the guy from House (Jesse whatever?) in the background of Teri’s performance? She did great btw… I knew she was a fairly good singer but I really didn’t expect HER to be in that show. Nice!

  7. Jaclyn says:

I love the song “see you again” by Miley, but her singing live….she sounds really rusty.
