Is Angelina f’ing crazy? She wants to adopt twins!

We are supposed to be on vacation, but it’s much more work than our average day of blogging, going swimming with our son, and riding our bike to town to get a croissant. So our normal life is relaxing and calm like a vacation while our trip to the states is turning into constant travelling, shopping, and seeing all the friends I wish would visit us in Switzerland. It’s a good thing that everything is all backwards now, but the blog is suffering during our travels. Sorry for that. Thanks for bearing with us until we’re settled on Thursday when we’ll continue working tirelessly for your gossip fix.

Meanwhile, what is wrong with Angelina Jolie? The woman went through a phase of being addicted to tattoos and morbid thoughts, then significantly improved herself by getting caught up in trying to save the world. Now she’s moved on to adopting international babies, and seems to be feeling so much guilt over having a biological child that she’s said to have started the process of adopting twins:

After having Shiloh Nouvel less then a month ago, Angelina is already planning another adoption, and this time according to sources, she wants twins! Friends of the couple tell Star that Brad and Angelina are on a tight schedule that will likely see them adding to their family as early as the end of the summer. Jolie wants to adopt a child very quickly due to what sources call invisible guilt or the feeling of bringing a child into the world at the expense of all of the other parentless children. A source tells Star that Angelina has already done some investigating and may adopt from a woman who village was basically destroyed by an earthquake, but this woman is due in August and she’s carrying twins!

(from Star Magazine’s e-mail newsletter)

I know a guy who is one of eight kids, and there are plenty of families that grow quickly. It’s just not as common in this era and it seems over the top for Angelina to want two more right away. Angelina needs to slow down and focus on the family she has now. Three kids are plenty, and Shiloh is barely a month old. She must be unfulfilled or have other problems that are causing her to obsess like this.

This isn’t just a rumor because Angelina told Anderson Cooper in a CNN Interview for International Refugee Day that she plans to adopt again and that she’s looking for a baby that fits in well “racially” with her other kids.

“Next we’ll adopt,” Jolie told CNN in an interview to be aired on Tuesday.

“We don’t know which — which country. But we’re looking at different countries. And we’re — I’m just– it’s gonna be the balance of what would be the best for Mad and for Z right now. It’s, you know, another boy, another girl, which country, which race would fit best with the kids,” she said, referring to her adopted children.

As you can imagine, this comment sparked a lot of controversy on the board where we found this news. While some people understand, many are outraged that Angelina seems to be treating babies as accessories and say that all the nannies and maids in the world can’t make up for the attention that children need from their parents.

I haven’t seen the full Anderson Cooper interview with Angelina yet, but judging from the preview clips and her long drawn-out interview during the Namibian press conference she seems seriously imbalanced to me. I used to think she was this intelligent woman who turned her life around and was focusing on things that mattered. Now I think she’s just fully absorbed in something without taking time to think it out and make sure her life is in balance.

You can see previews from Angelina’s interview through the CNN website. Once the interview is available on YouTube, we’ll post it here.

Here are screencaps of Angelina’s expressions during the interview (Many more at ONTD) and some posed pictures. [via]

The poor girl’s suffering from Mia Farrow syndrome. Seriously I think she has got some sort of narcisistic personality disorder. It’s not normal to collect kids the way you collect Doulton china or fancy coat hangers or whatever… Apparently performers have a high incidence of this disorder, it’s what drives their ambition for fame.
The ‘race slip’ gave the game away..it’s all about ANGELINA

  2. whatever says:

I totally disagree. I think the comment can be misunderstood but she is looking out for her children.
Plus, when do you ever see her when she isn’t being hands-on with her children?

‘Mia Farrow syndrome’?? WTF? Since when is being selfless and internationally aware a negative?

  3. Jude says:

Well, I think that even if her motivations for adopting or for adopting from specific races are a bit iffy, it looks like once she does adopt them, she really loves and cares for them, so I guess that’s what matters.

But seriously, this is getting out of hand. Jesus, Angelina. What’s your life going to be like when they’re all teenagers? OMG.

I’ve seen the entire interview and she never mentioned she’s adopting TWINS (since when STar magazine is the authority on anything) and she didn’t seem unbalanced. She was VERY much pulled together and very articulate, especially if you consider that she had a barely two or three week old, nursing baby next door. I wonder if people would consider her unbalanced or suffering from some syndrome if she wanted to have six biological kids, as some people do. Just because she wants to adopt people label her as weird and unbalanced. She doesn’t “collect” kids, she raises them and apparently does a good job–you always see her with her kids and they’re well behaved and taken care of, withouth an army of assistants and nannies. I wouldn’t be able to do it myself but it doesn’t mean that someone else can’t. Brad always said he wanted 6 kids. Maybe this is something they agree on and they will stop when things become too difficult. And if it fulfills some kind of psychological need of hers and helps kids who otherwise wouldn’t have a chance, where is the problem?

She is definitely hands on with her kids and she definitely does a lot of good. But the designer family concept doesn’t sit well with me. Also can anyone imagine being in a relationship for barely two years and already have 5 kids together – three of which are new borns (if the twin thing is true, who knows)? I think she is getting a little carried away. She needs to focus on what she has for a little while and stop trying to save the damn world.

Mia Farrow adopted TEN children which bought her grand total to 14 children, most of them for most of their lives were raised by Mia as a single mother. Call me a biased WTF-er but that is a little over the top.
Sorry, I’m with celebitchy on this – I just don’t buy selfless, 30% donating, internationally aware, Angies spin. She’s not mother Theresa, she’s Lara Croft.

so you’re saying she doesn’t donate the money and is not aware or you’re saying she has an ulterior motive? I’m not sure what you mean by she’s Lara Croft comment. If this is for PR value alone, it’s a pretty expensive and tiresome to be doing all this work and travel just to get some good press. I’m sure that if she’s at it 10 years from now, people will still be saying she’s pulling wool over our eyes. ONe thing I don’t get is why does she have to be either a saint or a sinner? I think she’s someone who finds comfort in what she does or is maybe even compelled to do it for whatever reason–as long as it’s good, who cares why she’s doing it?

Mia Farrow adopted 10 kids, most of them with handicaps, otherwise unsuitable for adoption, and raised them out of the limelight, mostly by herself. Plus, it’s not like she asked for any recognition. sure, it’s not a typical thing to do but why does it have to be branded as pretty much evidence of some mental disorder. Some people like large families and have means to provide for them. It would not be my choice either but I respect her for sacrificing other things in life to give those kids a home.

Why is everyone spending endless time analyzing every word that Angelina utters about her personal life instead of looking at what she is doing for charities and what she has been advocating? Are people really all that bored and/or ignorant? Personally I think the mindless attacks on Angelina has just gotta stop. Instead of taking every chance to tear her apart people should really think about what they can give back to the world and their own communities just like Angelina does.

  11. celebitchy says:

You guys I appreciate all the comments. I think that Angelina is caught up in adopting children without thinking it through. The reason people are concerned is because biologically there is a built-in time limit to how many children one can have at a time. If you have the means you can adopt multiple children right away though. At this point in time having a lot of children is not the norm, and seems like too much work to us mortals. So maybe that’s why I’m judging Angelina. Sure it is for a good cause and her kids will win the adoption super-lottery to borrow a quote from the Bastardly. It is also no doubt that she is a hands-on mom as millie mentions and does not push her kids off on nannies and that is admirable. Still, she should slow down. She seems really out of control to me.

Reader Christopher e-mailed me to mention that maybe Angelina wants to breastfeed her adopted infant and that is why she’s keen to have another child right away. That would be great of her and seems really sweet, but it still doesn’t seem like she’s making a sound decision.

  12. millie says:

I still don’t think she’ll adopt immediately. She seems tired and she said she was tired from breastfeeding and just dealing with postnatal issues. I think that she said it to make sure everyone knows that she won’t stop adopting because she had a biological child and she has a man in her life. She had so many worries whether she’s going to love her kids the same (I had the same worry even though my kids were both biological), so maybe she wants people to know she’s still committed to adopting. I have a feeling that Shiloh was a bit of a surprise and came too close to Zahara. She took almost 4 years before adopting Zahara, so I don’t think she’ll jump into it this year. I think that Zahara would suffer as a result. On the other hand, who knows, maybe Brad wants more kids soon? Maybe she said, we have to adopt firt and then have another biological child and Brad can’t wait to get to the next step? I would be surprised if they adopted soon. If they do, they’ll probably find it too hard to cope with.

  13. DeAnn says:

Or maybe she just wants to help people?

How is there anything wrong with a couple who has more than enough means to provide for 100 kids deciding to adopt four and have one biologically? Heck, they can adopt 20, for all I care. I trust they’ll hire the right people to keep them all fed and happy. And it’s not like love is mutually exclusive, so they can love as many as they decide to.

I think that Angelina has had an opportunity to visit different countries and see orphanages and devastation that none of us will ever be able to do. I think if I went there I would want to adopt those children too. I am not saying she is perfect, but I think her intentions are genuine.
