Renee Zellweger & Bradley Cooper’s creepy cheesy trailer for Case 39 – a stinker?

Case 39 – Trailer

E! Online has the new trailer for Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper’s horror movie, Case 39, and it looks creepy with strong elements of cheese. Zellweger stars as a social worker who takes in a girl she thinks is being abused by her family. It turns out that the little girl is beset by supernatural forces who come after Zellweger’s character. There’s a particularly disturbing scene in the trailer with Cooper pulling bees out of his ear. I didn’t realize that Zellweger and Cooper met on a movie set, but no wonder they ended up hooking up if they were working on a scary movie like this. The film is out this October in the US, having been delayed from an original release date last year.

Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper are finally ready to creep us out, and with something other than PDAs.

Originally set to hit theaters in 2009, psychological thriller Case 39 was pushed back until October of this year. Check out the eerie trailer to find out why Bradley’s pulling bugs out of his ear…

In Case 39, Emily (Zellweger) is a social worker trying to get 10-year-old Lilith (Eclipse’s Jodelle Ferland) out of a seemingly abusive home, and Cooper plays a psychiatrist colleague, helping her assess the girl’s troubled psyche.

But were Lilith’s parents really the abusers?

Emily manages to bring Lilith home with her, hoping to provide some semblance of a safe, loving place to stay. She should really know better. Emily discovers that the girl’s parents would barricade themselves in their own room at night, and when her own house gets a bad case of the creaking hardwood floors and mysterious whispers, it quickly becomes clear that some serious (if not supernatural) psychological baggage is at play here.

[From E! Online]

A lot of commenters on E! Online say they’ve already seen this. (And warning that there are spoilers in the comments if you’re holding out.) I checked Redbox and Netflix and they don’t have it listed yet, but according to IMDB it’s already out as a DVD abroad in France, Japan, Hungary and Italy. It was also released in several European markets this spring, which can’t be a good sign. British critics lambasted it, with News of The World calling it “a poor man’s Orphan,” and The Telegraph noting that “it’s so bad it’s good.” Still, the film could do ok if it comes out around Halloween. I have a low tolerance for crappy scary movies though, and definitely won’t see it. My only question is whether Renee and her new boobs will pose together with Bradley on the red carpet for this film. Are they ready to go public as a couple? (If they’re still together at that point.) Will Case 39 be their Gigli?

I had a doubtful pleasure of watching this movie. it was really embarassing.

  2. pity party patrol says:

Saw it. Liked it. No vampires or zombies. It’s enough for me 🙂

  3. Adnovitam says:

It is bad. I saw it before it was released in March in the UK. I really wanted to like it and it began well but the script lets it all down and the CGI is terrible. Even Renee herself seemed surprised to be in it.

  4. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Looks just plain scary to me. I scary easy anyway but it looked mighty scary to me. I will watch it when comes out on TV, I never watch scary movies at the theater. Once I saw Identity but I had no idea it was gonna be scary. LOL.

  5. California Surfer says:

I’ve never seen a movie with this Rene chick in it but the Hangover was way majorly booooring.

  6. Lway says:

I’ve seen this movie and let me tell you – there is NOTHING cheesy about it. Good acting (and i am so not a Renee fan)

  7. mslewis says:

This turkey was made over three years ago and some people in the States saw it at one of those screenings that the studios do to test a movie. I read that it was to go straight to DVD but they want to see if it will make some money now because of the Bradley/Renee coupling. You never know what might happen at the box office with these scary movies and Bradley is pretty hot right now.

  8. I Choose Me says:

I wanna see it. Even if it is cheesy. The hubby and I will have a blast making up increasingly outlandish explanations for what’s happening and why. Ours is usually better than the movie’s 😀

  9. S says:

this movie has been online for about a yr now…not that i advocate doing it, but it’s not hard to find.

  10. mimi says:

I saw this movie months ago online, I was surprised to read its only now being released. I thought it was an okay movie, it actually kept my attention the whole way thru (not many do that).
definitely worth a one time watch anyway.

  11. Em says:

I liked Jodelle Ferland in the Silent Hill movie. She’s pretty solid.

  12. The Truth Fairy says:

I liked this movie. Bradley Cooper doesn’t have a big part in it. The actress who portrays the little girl was excellent.

  13. Tia C says:

    Sounds positively ghastly.

  14. aenflex says:

I would see it when it comes to HBO or whatever, but not no the theater. I think a horror flick would have to be written/directed pretty damn well in order for Renee to work out in it. She’s just done way too many feel-good movies.

  15. Eileen says:

There were some parts that scared the crap out of me. That little girl was a good actress I thought. I love scary movies though, and good ones are hard to come by!

  16. Ron says:

This movies was tied up in some legal issues regarding release in the states and I think it was thought it would not release here. So they released it overseas, now that it has done decent business overseas the parties involved have negotiated a deal to release it here. i think this was filmed 2 or 3 years ago at this point.

  17. rkintn says:

UGH! Looks like a stinker for sure. RZ looks totally out of her element and even my love for Bradley Cooper can’t entice me to see this hot mess.

  18. Camille says:

Its been out on DVD in New Zealand for ages too. I haven’t seen it though. I’m not a Bradley Cooper fan. He doesn’t need to be in a horror movie for his face to creep me out. 😆

  19. ChelseaD says:

I suppose I’ll watch this, even though I’m not a big horror movie fan. I do like Renee Zellwegger though. ‘New in Town’ was awful, and I’m still waiting for ‘My One and Only’ to come out, but for now it’s nice to see Renee in a dramatic role. She looks much better in this than in ‘New In Town’, too.

  20. Alexis says:

I think that’s the same creepy little girl who played the creepy little girl in Silent Hill.

  21. v says:

if anyone watches supernatural you’ll sort of understand. i think the movie might be about hell hounds.

  22. Kat says:

That last picture sums up how I feel about Renee Zellweger.

“…I don’t understand why you keep casting me and my plastic face.”

  23. So cool, I really love motion posters. To be honest, I think I prefer the eye-popping poster we case 39 last week to this one but this mind-blowing poster is very cool as well. I would love to see more motion posters for case 39 in the coming weeks …
