Was someone trying to sabotage Jennifer Lopez’s ‘American Idol’ gig?

Don’t even ask me what’s going on with Jennifer Lopez these days. She’s been putting in appearances for New York Fashion Week, and while not every look has been hideous, there are definitely some styling issues that you’d think a diva of Jennifer’s caliber would be beyond. I just want to shake her and say “You’re 41 years old! You should have this figured out by now.” But still, we’re getting bedhead and fringe and transparent coochie dresses and miniskirts and tacky styling. Ugh.

Anyway, after weeks (months) of speculation, it’s looking more and more like Jennifer Lopez will be the next diva judge on American Idol. Us Weekly’s sources claim it’s a done deal… which could mean anything, but I tend to think it’s on. I know ‘Idol’ die-hards aren’t too happy with this, but honestly, I think Jennifer will make a good judge. She’s bitchy with a heart (that should be this site’s tagline, right?). Anyway, TMZ and PopEater claim that getting J.Lo on Idol was such a long process because there were some mysterious forces out there trying to sabotage her and c-ckblock her. J.Lo has made some enemies!

Are there shadowy forces at work trying to sabotage Jennifer Lopez’s bid to become the next ‘American Idol’ judge? According to a new report, FOX execs believe enemies of the show as well as Lopez’s competition are planting rumors about the star’s so-called “diva demands” before signing on the dotted line.

Well-connected sources tell TMZ that negotiations between the two parties have in fact been “normal” and that Lopez is expected to become the show’s judge any day now.
Among the rumors floating around about Lopez include that she was demanding too much money was insisting on a movie deal to be included. Some sort of movie component is involved with negotiations, but it’s not a key part of it.

In early August, sources told PopEater’s Rob Shuter that Lopez was only offered the job after several big-name celebrities, including Elton John and Barry Manilow, turned down offers to be permanent judges.

Lopez’s people have been working on the deal for over a month, shortly before Ellen DeGeneres announced she was leaving the show. Since then, Kara DioGuardi also exited though it’s unclear if she was actually fired. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has told friends he is replacing Simon Cowell, mean when the dust settles it will be Tyler, Randy Jackson and presumably Lopez at the judges table come season 10.

Well, it’s good to know that Jennifer is not a self-saboteur, going all diva throughout the negotiations – it seems now like that was just speculation from someone very anti-Lopez. Gee, who could it be? The myriad managers and handlers that she jettisoned as she got more and more famous? The yes-men who had to deal with her for years? The peasants who had to do her makeup and hair, who she’s obviously pissed off? Granted, I don’t think Jennifer is a monster or anything. I just think she’s a diva. And she’s a diva who has found her home on American Idol.

    She’s beginning to look plastic.

  2. Marjalane says:

This past season of Idol was SO bad, it pretty much soured me on having any interest at all in the upcoming one- you add Jennifer Lopez’s ego to Randy and Steven Tyler’s, and the actual contestants don’t stand a chance. I think this is a dumb decision.

  3. Me says:

This could be AI damage control too. They can’t get anyone else who is known and have to go back to her or no show?

Who knows, I’ve never been a fan anywho.

  4. Megan says:

    Mariah Carey, that bitch!!!

  5. oxa says:

I will not watch if they sign her to AI.
She is all about her image and I think a trained seal could do a better job of picking talent than Jenny from the Private Yatch.

  6. maya says:

Jennifer Lopez is no longer a big name draw. She can’t sell records anymore and her movies bomb at the box office. She no longer has a fashion line and instead of debuting at Fashion Week, she is sitting front row watching fashion lines of others. The fact that she is doing American Idol if proof that she is no longer on top.

  7. chuchubarney says:

Her haydays are all behind her and all her previous attempts were not well received. She’s almost trying too hard with those “expensive couture outfits” — I am wondering how much longer she can keep this up? She’s probably made many enemies along the way; no one likes a diva. Yup, the fall from the diva top with many, many enemies waiting at the bottom should finally give her a good reality check. I wish her the best as an idol judge — I won’t be watching the show and never will. Thanks.

  8. victoria says:

she’s not gonna age well. why is she so tan and greasy?

  9. NayNay says:

    @ Marjalane:

I am in 100% agreement with you. You hit the nail right on the head. This show is gonna suck worse than before.

  10. Schnauzers!!! says:

I wasn’t the biggest Kara fan, but at least she DID give some good pointers and did have some excellent songwriting ability. I don’t feel like J.Lo. has ever had any TRUE talent to begin with PLUS her seeming inability to be anything less than DIVA-ish…I don’t see it working. I won’t be watching the show.

  11. Jover says:

Nay Nay and Marjalane I also agree. I think the public has mostly moved on the show has lost its cache, it had a few good seasons, many hohum and this last one awful. To be honest has it ever found/produced any truly ground breaking singers like a Janis Joplin or Jim Morrison, etc. Its just an ordinary talent show something you would see at the local county fair. And I can’t believe the producers are that isolated that they think the public is eager to see Jlo.

  12. angie fan says:

Don’t like her and I DEFINITELY won’t watch the show with her on it.

    That’s a whole lotta make-up she’s wearing.

  13. Snarf says:

That guy from Pop Eater sources must really hate him cause his scoops are always off base.

J-Lo wanted $15 million and a development deal at Fox. They balked. She dug in her heels. Nygil Lythgoe let rumours leak that they were pursuing Mariah Carey – nothing like mentioning a hated rival to make a diva more complient. J-Lo signed. End of story.

  14. BethL says:

Although she is a diva, I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody was trying to sabotage her. I think she knows her career is on the decline so I doubt she would do everything possible not to get the spot. As far as predentials, I think they could do better. But I do think she could be a good judge. I like her in some interviews since she seems normal, interesting, and funny. But in other interviews Jennifer seems fake and high and mighty. Even if Simon didn’t leave, “Idol” was on it’s way out. This past season was an embarrassment.

  15. tripmom says:

I totally agree with everyone here. Washed up no talent has-beens like JLo and Steven Tyler? Seriously? What kind of productive criticism could they honestly offer? The show’s been awful the past few seasons but I absolutely will not watch with these two delusional morons behind the judges’ table. When they smartest thing any of the judges has to say is “yo yo where my dog pound at?” you know it’s time for the show to cut its losses.

  16. gloaming says:

So TMZ are also working for Fox now, or is it J-Lo?

J Lo was offered the gig by Simon Cowell. She accepted. Then she and her managers tried to ‘ rip the arse out of it ‘

    http://www.deadline.com/2010/09/jlo-getting-overall-fox-deal-along-with-12m-idol-judging-job-but-her-other-diva-demands-were-refused/

I’d believe Nikki Finke before TMZ.

    Jennifer Lopez = Diva extraordinaire!

  17. nina says:

Megan,,,ha ha ha h that was funny!!
    About JLO,,,what’s with the eyebrows???

  18. gem says:

I think AI would be more successful if it was more auditions and less drawn out “developing” weeks I wish AI was all auditions but i can’t have it my way 🙁

  19. hellen says:

She looks like a broasted chicken. And do I see signs of lip enhancement?

  20. geenie says:

Do they really expect people to believe that JLO doesn’t have any special demands? Yeah right.

  21. flutters says:

So according to Nikki Finke Jennifer Lopez was in demand not only by American Idol but also Simon Cowell for the US X Factor? That’s……interesting?

  22. Mimi says:

    She’s looking like a 40 year old Beyonce…

  23. Xx says:

This is like Jessica Simpson being a judge on Project Runway. Who is casting these shows!?? And I am sure they will trot out Skeletor onto the stage since he also needs a job.

  24. Sassy says:

I never thought I’d say this, but… bring back Paula and her drunk seal clap.

  25. LBees says:

    Blerg. Pass.

  26. Donna Wingfield says:

She doesn’t look like she used to. How much work has she had done?

  27. oh says:

the thing with Jessica Simpson is she is highly successful in her fashions & has shocked many so she had every right to be at Project runway & when Heidi was interviewed said as much.. Jess is targeted for 2012 as having a billion dollar empire & that is NO crap but well established. Heidi also made mention of that for Jessica. Another thing Jessis is so far from a diva not even in that ball park at all.

AI is tanking & anyone they approached before STEPHAN & JLO know its going down. I feel bad for Randy.

Its well established Jennifer is a major DIVA & owrse then Marahi

  28. Truthzbetta says:

Used to love AI but this line up of judges will be unwatchable. She was an awful “mentor” who tried to upstage the contestants and sabotage them. She gave the not so attractive but very talented ones advice to focus on their looks, and the attractive ones advice to downplay their looks. Then she made the performance night all about her jumping around with a wind machine. Not Paula like behavior.

Wish Simon’s X-Factor would poach Paula and Seacrest so I’d have my show back bigger and better.

  29. Westcoaster says:

How much was Paula Abdual asking for in a new contract with AI? I bet the producers will regret not giving Paula her raise!

  30. crab says:

She always has that “I smell shit” look on her face! I won’t watch AI either! A few years ago they had a show called “Rock Star” where INXS and another band I forgot who, were looking for a front person for they’re band! That show rocked! (pardon the pun.) I wish they would bring that back!!

  31. PEACEOUT says:

J-LO IS SO YESTERDAY. THIS MIGHT BE A.I.’S FINAL SEASON.

  32. Connie says:

Oh Yeah, because she is just such a has-been!

  33. Savio Hayer says:

P.P.S. Jeekers! You gotta remember if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
