Jessica Simpson is already dropping major hints that Eric Johnson needs to propose

Before I get to some actual quotes from Jessica Simpson (who is still attending the Women’s Conference in California), I just have to share this hilarious piece of gossip from Us Weekly/Jezebel’s Tabloid Round-Up. Last week, Jessica and her boyfriend Eric were eating in a restaurant when Nick Lachey and Vanessa walked in. There was some reporting about the Dramz That Never Was, but this is the best version of events ever:

Jessica Simpson went to dinner in L.A. with her boyfriend Eric Johnson, and while they were dining, her ex-husband Nick Lachey walked in to the restaurant with his ladyfriend Vanessa Minnillo. Jessica quipped to a waiter: “I hope Vanessa likes her clothes, because I bought them for her, since Nick took all my money.”

Jessica proceeded to down margaritas and do shots of tequila.

Day-um. I would love it if Jessica Simpson was really like this. Some trash-talking, hard-drinkin’ Southern girl who still holds a grudge towards her ex-husband – over money. Alas, I don’t think she’s that girl. But I do believe she was drinking. Jess likes to get wasted.

On to the real quotes…Jessica began gushing again about Eric and how their love is pure and how he makes her feel like a natural woman (preach it, Aretha), blah blah. Typical Jess:

For Jessica Simpson, falling for former NFL football tight end Eric Johnson sometimes feels too good to be true.

“I’ve never really been in such a healthy relationship. I’m like, ‘Something’s going to go wrong. Is he going to trip me or something?'” the star said during a panel discussion at Maria Shriver’s Women’s Conference in Long Beach, Calif., on Tuesday.

“I’m waiting for something bad to happen,” she said, “but then I have realized that I actually do deserve an understanding relationship.”

Simpson, 30, who calls her beau of six months “a hottie”, said Johnson “has been an inspiration. He really knows himself.”

The same can be said of Simpson: More than four years since her divorce from Nick Lachey in 2006, the singer/actress/entrepreneur has not only found love, but also a new level of hard-fought confidence. Who helped Simpson find her footing after the split? Her little sister Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

“My sister and I, through my divorce, became so much closer than we’d ever been growing up,” Simpson said during the panel discussion, billed as It’s Time to Learn How to Build Self-Esteem and Leadership in Young Women and hosted by Dove. “She would always give me music to listen to to get me through.”

The sisters often cranked up the Sister Act soundtrack and Lauryn Hill’s “His Eyes on a Sparrow” as well as Patty Griffin’s “Let Him Fly”, she said. “‘Fly’ is about that moment where you learn to fly and live on your own and that’s what I was doing through my divorce, learning to live on my own.”

While Simpson cherishes being an aunt to Ashlee’s son, Bronx, she said, “I always thought I would have children before her since I was married before her.”

But Simpson has taken away life lessons from her hard times. “Another thing that can strip you of your self-esteem is a divorce and you have to start back over at the beginning and find out who you are all over again,” she said.

These days, an enlightened Simpson is excited about what her future might hold.

“I was on a little bit of a detour but I finally went back on the path that I was supposed to be on,” she said, “and I grew from that experience and it made me a better lover, and hopefully a better wife one day and an incredible mother someday.”

Eric Johnson, take note.

Jessica Simpson, ladies and gentlemen. Queen of the Overshare, the TMI, The Obvious Hint-Dropping. “Oh, I want to get MARRIED and I have a BOYFRIEND and he understands ME and makes me feel WORTHY. Look at my RING! Oh, no it’s not THAT.” I can’t wait for Jessica’s People Magazine cover where she’s hugging her legs and the cover line will be “Why I Believe In Love” or some such nonsense. I like Jess for the most part and everything, but the girl needs to get a new act.

F-ck me, I love Aretha.

She looks as though she’s aged quite a bit. Maybe it’s the pulled-back hairdo.

  2. gabs says:

omg I wish she really did say that about nick taking her money. That would be awesome. I could get down with a trash talking jessica more than the happy positive mumbo jumbo jessica.

Also, gotta say, her new hair person is wayy better than ken paves. That braid is cute. Glad they fought. Maybe she can be decently styled now.

  3. Molly says:

I always got the impression (from what I read at the time) that she dumped Nick Lachey when she got “famous” and it annoys me that she’s spent the years since whining about how she hates being single, wants to get married, blah blah blah. I think she’s gross.

  4. LittleFATMe says:

Does she look like she could be Faith Hill’s slightly rounded out sister? Or is that just me?

  5. icantbelievethis says:

When I think of role models for empowering young women, I don’t picture Jessica Simpson. Maybe if it was a class on landing the right man or letting men make all your decisions.

  6. hanh says:

Oy if she wanted to get married and have kids, maybe she shouldn’t have dumped Nick for her new found fame and freedom to bone guys.

He was a pretty good husband for her and very patient with her crazy controlling father. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jess’s father was the one who decided that Jess should dump Nick because Nick wouldn’t let him control Jess.

  7. melinda says:

“I hope Vanessa likes her clothes, because I bought them for her, since Nick took all my money.”

    -LMAO! I needed that.

  8. brin says:

She is getting worse & worse & needier & needier….it’s really pathetic.

  9. Jeri says:

hanh: Totally agree, he seemed to really love her, even after she slept with others on the Dukes set.

I don’t think she’ll find that again, maybe that’s why her relationships don’t work, no-one else has loved her that much.

Of course ya never really know but it seems that way.

  10. Sakota says:

After her marriage she marketed herself as a sex object and men in that scene treat her that way, as if she’s suppsoed to be different? She lost a lot when she dropped Nick.

  11. Kaye says:

Good God, Aretha is an awesome singer. They call it soul for a reason.

  12. Delta Juliet says:

I’d be more inclined to believe her if she didn’t say the SAME thing EVERY time she gets a boyfriend. She’s found true love more often than anyone I know.

  13. SuperSleuth says:

LMFAO, Kaiser. I love the “Look at my RING! Oh, no it’s not THAT.” and the part “where she’s hugging her legs and the cover line will be “Why I Believe In Love” or some such nonsense.
    Tooooooo Funny!! Clever girl.

I hope this guy doesn’t use that poor girl. I’d really like to see her get her fairytale.

  14. jen says:

Maybe he can hide the ring in a bucket of chicken.

  15. Lem says:

    jessica simpson = women empowerment

    chokepretzelstuck Ha needheimlichhelp

  16. guesty says:

really really really hope she snarked that little comment! not team jess by any stretch of the imagination but that is funny.

  17. Leticia says:

@Jen, no, that is too dangerous, she might accidentally swallow the ring while scarfing the fried chicken.

  18. Relli says:

I think the WORST thing i have ever heard he say was the reason she filed for divorce was because she had just watched the notebook and realized they didn’t have the passionate love that Aly and Noah did. REALLY. ITS A MOVIE. OMG, stupid.

Is this Taylor Swift all grown up? Every guy she dates thinks could be the one.

  19. NayNay says:

Wow! She reeks of desperation. Nothing chases a guy away like a desperate woman dropping hints that she wants to be proposed too. Although, this guy sounds like a ‘winner’, not! So, maybe he could be the one.

  20. Marjalane says:

Much as I enjoy being unkind to Taylor Swift, even I can’t compare her to Jessica, who does actually look a lot like Faith Hill’s, “sister who can’t say no to a doughnut”. (I hope Faith Hill doesn’t actually have a sister, btw) I have a hard time believing that creepy papaJoe will let Jess marry this toad unless he can bring something financial to the game- it’s not like their wedding and baby pics are going to bring in Jolie/Pitt cash.

  21. wunderkindt says:

Geez, what’s happened to her looks?

It seems like more than just a weight gain. Nowadays, something looks ‘off’.

  22. trollydolly says:

She’s had some seriously bad botox, especially between the eyebrows. It’s given her quite a simian look.
Poor Jessica, she doesn’t realise how needy she appears.

  23. TeeTee says:

she does it to herself, people/celebrities are sooo tired of hearing about her man issues.

her face looks hard, like she has aged 15 yrs.

I like the old Jess, not the desperate blabbermouth of today.

saying that to a waiter? is howww desperate?? I’m sure her bf just looked at her and blinked 3 times.

  24. Isa says:

It would be funny if she really said this, but I doubt it.
Woman makes BANK on her clothing/shoe line. Or whatever it is. She has made tons of money since then.
If it wasn’t for him and that show she would have faded away.

And yes, she says that about EVERY boyfriend. It’s always about how he makes HER feel.

  25. Kat says:

what is this desperation to get married? I don’t understand it. yes, I’m married and I adore my husband, but it wasn’t the crowning achievement of my life. these women really have bought and bought and bought into the whole marriage is the ultimate achievement fairytale. self-esteem issues, much? I feel sad for any woman who thinks that marriage is all – or the most important – thing she can achieve.

  26. Jessica says:

I’m waiting for her annual People cover to say this: “Exclusive Interview”; “Jessica to People: Ok Guys, This time I really found The One”.

She had her fairytale with Nick, she blew it. I think it’s funny that Nick has been with Vanessa for almost 5 years, yet Jessica can’t seem to make any of her relationships last to were they head down the aisle.

    Let’s See: Nick : Vanessa
Jessica: Secret Lovers (her own words to people magazine), John, Tony, Billy & Eric.

She’ll never find another Nick and I think (IMO) that she’s too stupid to realize what she gave up.

  27. heb says:

If she’d just taken a chill pill and thought with her own heart instead of to her Dad she’d still be with Nick and would have kids!!

  28. tango says:

Of course Eric is nice to her, she supports him. And he’ll probably propose sooner or later with a ring Jessica buys herself since it’s easier than finding a job. He knows once Jessica or her daddy get tired of him, he’ll get a nice settlement.

  29. Jeff sepeta says:

    Why marry the cow…

  30. Stronzilla says:

    If she really did say that then my only advice to Nick would be;

“Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty. But the pig likes it.”

  31. PrettyLights says:

I think her hair is looking great these days, I’m kinda jealous. As for the other thing, it’s true – it’s pretty annoying that every relationship to her is ‘the one’… it’s ok to think that to yourself, but to tell the whole world… well, I want to see how long this guy sticks around with that kind of pressure on him already.
