Tori Spelling’s famous pug, Mimi LaRue, dies

I’m not a big Tori Spelling fan, but I did love her fabulous little pug, Mimi LaRue. Mimi was the only pug with her own entry on IMDB, and she could wear designer couture with appropriate fierceness. The dog basically stole the show in Tori’s reality show, “Tori and Dean: Inn Love,” in which the couple ran a bed and breakfast named Chateau LaRue, named after Mimi. She also made regular appearances on Tori’s previous show, “So NoTORIous.” Tori announced that Ms. LaRue passed away yesterday. She was 11 years old.

New mother Tori Spelling is mourning the death of her beloved pet dog Mimi LaRue, just a week after she welcomed new baby daughter Stella into the world.

The pooch died from natural causes on Tuesday, at age 11.

Spelling tells People.com, “She was a star and a true lady, and she will be missed greatly. People everywhere knew her by name. I loved when fans wanted her over me. I felt proud.”

The actress reveals the pug had battled medical problems for years, and she says she believes the pooch waited until she had given birth to Stella on June 9, before dying.

Spelling adds, “I’m devastated. I’m convinced she waited around to make sure I had the daughter I always dreamt about before she left us.”

Tori once said that she bought Mimi at a pet store, but would never consider doing that again, saying, “I wasn’t aware.” Condolences on her loss. One of my beloved golden retrievers, Astro, is getting up there in age as well- I don’t even want to think about it!

Picture note by Celebitchy: Tori and Mim LaRue are shown below in 2004 and in the header in March, 2007 with Dean in front of the Inn. They kind of look alike. Thanks to PRPhotos and Splash.

Mimi LaRue was a totally cute pug! I know she will be missed!

  2. devilgirl says:

The end of an era! I bet baby Liam had something to do with her death. He was feeling threatened by the new baby and having to share, the easiest one to go was poor Mimi.

  3. Ron says:

It’s so sad to lose a pet. She was adorable.

  4. Alison says:

NO jokes here, you guys. Jeez. It’s awfully devastating to lose a beloved pet. If you care about animals at all and have experienced the unconditional love they can give you, you’d understand.

  5. vdantev says:

    Poor puppy 🙁

  6. geronimo says:

Aw, sad. A celebrity worth mourning.

Hope her will is water-tight. Don’t want a reverse Leona Helmsley situation here.

  7. neelyo says:

Well I guess they’ve found an excuse to do another season of their show.

And yes, I’m sad about the dog, but Tori and Tool are such publicity whores.

  8. Kolby says:

CB, I’m right there with you – I have two dogs, and they’re young now, but from time to time I think about what would happen to one if the other one should go first. And then I shake the thought out of my head because I can’t even imagine it.

    Condolences to Tori.

  9. soni says:

I AM SOO sorry for your loss. What a cutie pie. It is like losing a child. So sorry, one day you will see your baby again across the rainbow bridge.

    So so so sad

Mimi died of a broken heart.

  11. WTF says:

I adored that dog, and it was her appearances on So NoTORIous that in part helped keep the bile down when Ms Spelling came into view.

    RIP, sexy pug.

  12. Leandra says:

I like Tori, not sure why people are so mean (half of marriages break up..duh) and am sorry Ms. Mimi LaRue has passed on. RIP sweet girl.

  13. Lunachick says:

Sounds like Mimi LaRue was much loved and very well cared for.

It’s sad she’s gone, and I’m sure Tori is devastated. But, it is comforting to know that her time on this earth as Tori’s pet was probably about the best life a pug could possibly have 🙂

  14. Bodhi says:

    RIP, sexy pug 😆

But in all seriousness, my heart goes out to Tori. I have two pups around 2 years old & I can’t even begin to imagine life without them

  15. Mairead says:

I’ve only seen Mimi in photos, but damn that doggie had more personality than most of Hollywood put together. Her unimpressed face at Tori’s book launch is a classic.

    RIP Mimi laRue.

  16. Musey says:

I watched So NoTORIous solely for Zach Quinto and Mimi LaRue. It’s so sad to lose a pet, even if they lived a good long life.

  17. Mandy says:

Aww, so sad! If it’s any consolation, I’m sure that some of my past pugs will invite Miss LaRue to an extravagant dinner party at their gigantic villa on the shores of the Lake of Fire in Hell, which is where all pugs go. I think it’s because they always have that annoyed/unimpressed look on their faces, like, “I’m only tolerating your presence because you feed me. Now go away, you cretin!”

  18. Rianna says:

that dog was my fave celeb dog.
she always had this look that said “bitch pulleassee!”
hope she is in doggie heaven with lots of fire hydrants and bones. she deserves it after having to live with crazy ass tori for 11 years.

  19. paris herpes says:

Mimi LaRue was finally put out of her misery. No more humiliating clothes to where, good for her!

  20. Kevin says:

So sad. My two dogs are getting up in years and I hate to think about when they will no longer be waiting for me when I come home from work. Just something about dogs, when they look at you with those soulful eyes. Just tears your heart up. Here in Florida a week doesnt go by that you don’t hear about someone abusing their pets,,,makes me soooo angry. If you would do that to an innocent pet, what would you do to a child? Hate to think about it really.

  21. mollination says:

That pug was HUGE!!! no wonder she had health problems, that’s terrible for small dogs! I have a boston terrier and he’s so sensitive to temperature, food portion, EVERYTHING!

But that is sad, and I’m glad Tori has her babies to focus on right now.

    rest peacefully little pug baby.

  22. Rene LeDog says:

That dog used to be a beautiful poodle, but you know they say dogs begin to look like their owners. A law should be passed that requires Tori to wear a bag over her head at all times.

  23. Nan says:

i don’t think Tori should be out & about just cause dad had some pull. Never wanted to look at this one but my heart goes out to anyone who has lost a beloved pet. I feel for her. Lay off, people. You know the hurt & pain if you’ve ever had a cutey pie like this dog was…just pray she isn’t too shattered. BTW, for Tori & others who have lost pets, they find their way back home in 1 form or another. Sometimes you have to wait a few years, but they come back home.

  24. Amy says:

I have a baby pug named Annabelle and when we watched Tori & Dean she perked up as soon as she heard or saw Mimi. She was a beautiful dog and my heart goes out to Tori. Losing a pet is a heart breaking experience for anyone and I can’t fathom losing my Bella 🙁
RIP at Rainbow Bridge sweet Mimi LaRue.
