Justin Timberlake will do anything and anybody for an Oscar nomination

wenn5551894

I missed this yesterday – according to Page Six, Justin Timberlake STILL thinks he deserves an Oscar nomination for his role in The Social Network, and he’s still in the midst of some kind of awards season campaign. Now, I actually saw The Social Network, and while JT wasn’t ghastly, it wasn’t really memorable, either. I walked out of the theatre thinking about how wonderful Andrew Garfield was and is, and how if any of the cast gets a nomination, it should be him. But that’s not going to stop JT from groveling to the Academy:

Justin Timberlake is mounting an aggressive campaign to land himself a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his role in “The Social Network.” The singer-actor is pushing to land the nod as his movie career takes off with three pictures out this year.

A source close to Timberlake, 29, who’s currently filming sci-fi thriller “Now” in Los Angeles with Amanda Seyfried, said, “He’s hell-bent on getting a nomination this year even though he has tough competition from his co-star Andrew Garfield. Sony is footing the bill for advertising the awards campaign, but Justin is also doing things his own way, including attending Academy screenings on his own and privately reaching out to award winners and Academy darlings Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey for campaigning advice.”

Timberlake faces competition not only from Garfield but from Geoffrey Rush, who plays a speech therapist in “The King’s Speech,” and Christian Bale, who stars as the trainer to boxer Micky Ward (played by Mark Wahlberg) in “The Fighter,” which opens Dec. 17.

Timberlake’s reps declined to comment, but another source confirmed, “He’s doing everything to support ‘Social Network.’

[From Page Six]

“He has tough competition from his co-star Andrew Garfield…” Really? How about phrasing it this way, “source”: “Andrew Garfield should get a nomination, but JT is going to whine like a baby until the Academy recognizes his terrible line readings. Plus, who gives a crap about Andrew Garfield anyway?!?”

LaineyGossip’s sources say that JT is even bargaining with Academy, saying that he’ll do stuff in exchange for a nomination. Does he really think this is how Oscar campaigns are run? It isn’t. And Timberlake’s neediness and ego will end up turning people off. Let’s hope any other potential nominations the film might get won’t suffer because of JT.

Will he wash Helen Mirren’s car? Will he take out Morgan Freeman’s trash?
Cause even if he polishes Sean Penn’s Oscar he won’t get one of his own.

  2. mln says:

Pathetic. He should have just written a song for the movie he would have had a better chance. E-G-O-T is so true in this case. He wasn’t terrible in the movie but he so does not deserve a nomination and is just turning off the Acadamy.
I hope that everyone but him gets nominated.

  3. maria says:

    yuck.

  4. chasingadalia says:

JT just needs to go away. He’s a ghastly musician, and ridiculously untalented actor.

  5. hatsumomo says:

MY, that boy has some beautiful hair!

  6. guesty says:

    how desperately ridiculous.

  7. David says:

    He is a shit actor.

  8. k says:

I think I’m the only one who was not impressed with that movie, especially JT’s performance. The only convincing one was Garfield

  9. aenflex says:

He’s just not done anything oscar-worthy, I’m sorry.

  10. CandyKay says:

He was good in the film. Not necessarily Oscar-worthy, but good.

    I enjoyed that movie.

  11. Jenna says:

he really needs to get over himself. oscars are reserved for SERIOUS ACTORS ONLY.

  12. TxGal says:

I really can’t stand him and his stupid glasses. Does he think wearing them makes him look intelligent or something?

  13. brin says:

    @TxGal….lol, it’s not working.

  14. Persistent Cat says:

Wouldn’t you try to campaign for an Oscar if you were in a movie? It’s what they all do.

I don’t understand why people get mad at Blake Lively or JT by legitimately trying to promote their careers and Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian are defended despite the fact they don’t do anything.

  15. MarenGermany says:

thats what happens when you feed an ego too much.
    Oscar, SERIOUSLY?
these celebs who think they own the entire world, ugh!
he is like a white kayne west, isnt he?

  16. carrie says:

LOL he’s funny! he’s watchable in “social network” and he believe he deserves a nod :it’s almost too funny to be true

  17. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    WTF eva. Good Luck.

  18. Mika says:

I liked the Social Network, I loved then script, I loved Eisenburg, I loved Garfield, and they all helped to make Timberlake look less awful. Oh, and the editing, the editing saved his first scene. When you actually have to watch him try and act, like when he says “we are going to LIVE on the IIIINTERNET!!”, it’s painful. So painful.

Considering the plot of the movie does anyone else think it’s funny that Tiberlake, a flashy and untalentled late comer to the Social Network, is leeching off the movie’s success and stealing Garfield’s thunder? Life imitates ART!!!

  19. whattt says:

I agree- Andrew Garfield was so memorable and was really, really excellent. HE should get a nomination.

Justin Timberlake? I’m sorry but “not bad” doesn’t deserve an OSCAR nomination.

  20. Jackson says:

He’ll do anything, eh? How about take some acting classes and try again next year. Or how about just stick to music and leave acting to those who can do it?

  21. Kate says:

Unfortunately, he’ll probably get a Golden Globe nomination (because those are always geared toward pumping up ratings rather than “worthy” performances). That will just further fuel his campaign.

The guy can’t act. I honestly thought he just played himself.

  22. judyjudy says:

I don’t understand why they campaign for a nomination. Should’t a nomination be based on their performance alone?

Also, I don’t get the buzz around this movie. Sure the story was interesting because of the social relevance of Facebook, but as far as movies go – meh.

  23. Mia135 says:

It is ridiculous that winning an Oscar nomimation basically comes down to how you market yourself after the movie, rather than your actual performance in the movie itself.

  24. merry says:

My God, Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg are fantastic actors!! Don’t you dare trying to steal their moment, Justin! Don’t you dare…
On a side note, Garfield really looks good on film, but why is he so painfully skinny in pictures? I find him much more telegenic than photogenic.

  25. craigc says:

    Okay little Justin….
    Good job! Nice acting!
    Now stfu

  26. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I’ve never understood Oscar campaigning, if you have to tell people to give you an award it’s meaningless. What’s next, Tony protection money?

  27. Holly says:

lol this is the same clown that’s doing a Yogi Bear movie. Dude gtfoh already.

  28. Hollowdoll says:

Just attend the awards show, sit in your seat, smile, shut your mouth and count your lucky charms that anyone gives an eff about you.

  29. Rachel says:

If Justin Timberlake gets a nomination over Andrew Garfield, I will boycott!

  30. Str8Shooter says:

This kid goes out of way to look like a PUSSY in every photo. I guess he thinks wearing big, dorky glasses will make him look like a serious thespian?

    He sucks. Period.

  31. padiddle says:

Just because he didn’t detract from the film doesn’t mean he added anything to it.
I just watched Red Riding with my fiance and Garfield was excellent in that as well. He seems very dedicated to his craft and certainly deserves recognition for it.

  32. Madison says:

All actors want oscar nominations not just JT. He’s no different to any other actor who is in good movie that has done well at the box office and is campaigning for an oscar nomination. If his management team compaigns hard enough it’s possible he could get a best supporting actor.

  33. bellaluna says:

JT’s an absolutely horrid actor. The first movie he did (with some really big-name actors) went straight to DVD because he ruined the whole thing. Frankly, I won’t pay to see a movie if he’s in it. I probably won’t even watch it when it’s on FX or USA. He’s painful to watch.

The arrogance of this jerk never ceases to amaze. Is he kidding about winning an Oscar? Spare me.

  34. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

Yea, that’s not gonna happen. If anyone gets a supporting Oscar nomination for that film, it’ll be Garfield. Justin Timberlake was kind of a “just-there” character. Not particularly memorable and his performance wasn’t outstanding.

  35. mm says:

Wearing those glasses doesn’t make him a serious actor. He’s still an idiot boy band singer.

  36. Jeri says:

    JT is a conceited asshole.

  37. heathen says:

I’m sick of this guy — he’s ugly, not very talented as a singer, and completely worthless as an “actor.” Not to even mention his douchey personality. Yeah, he did ok in that movie — for HIM, but it was a very one-dimensional role that my cat could have played. How the heck did he luck into the life he has?!?!?!

  38. velcrodots says:

If Justin gets a nod, that’s it, I will officially have lost faith in the Oscars. Giving best movie to Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction (and Shawshank) was the first straw, giving a nod to JT saying “Yes, former Nsync’er, you were one of the best supporting actors of 2010” will be the final one.

  39. Bitter fruit says:

Not that hard to conceive. After all, they gave one to cold fish Gwynnie. And cold fish Kidman for wearing plasticene on her nose.

  40. Zvonk says:

I saw the movie and thought Justin Timberlake was so bad, I vowed never to see a movie with him in it again. If he gets a nomination, the Oscar brand will be a badly tarnished.

  41. Samigirl says:

Here’s the deal. Justin Timberlake’s performance was solid but it was NO Sean Penn as Harvey Milk. It couldn’t hold a candle to Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, and he sure as HELL will not win an Oscar over Andrew Garfield. Get the hell over yourself, Timberlake. It is NOT your year.

  42. Ruffian9 says:

“Wouldn’t you try to campaign for an Oscar if you were in a movie?”

Not unless I delivered oscar-worthy material, and not if I was a crap actor in general. You have to realise and respect your own limitations.

  43. archiepelago says:

Couldn’t agree more Kaiser. Garfield was the memorable one for me. I’m not sure if Jesse Eisenberg was talking too fast because that’s how Zuckerberg speaks in real life but man, I could barely keep up at times with the rapid speech.

  44. Samigirl says:

@archie, I was watching an interview with Aaron Sorkin (one of the writers for The Social Network) and he explained the fast dialogue. The movie was written to be about 2 1/2 hours long, but needed to be cut down to 2 hours, so they just had to have everyone talk and act quickly. Also, worked because Mark Zuckerberg was not one to waste time speaking in circles. He is known for being direct and getting to the point; not wasting breath 🙂

  45. d says:

Meanwhile, Britney sits back, and laughs and laughs…

  46. Valentine says:

If he actually gets nominated I want to watch his face so that if he doesn’t win, he’ll have to do the best acting of his life to pretend he’s happy for the winner. And if he does win, I’d like to see if he uses the statue to pry Jessica Biel off his leg.

  47. Kitten says:

    Renner for The Town!!!!

  48. Zoe says:

He wasn’t that impressive in The Social Network, he’s been outright terrible in a few films, but he was actually great in Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan. He is so hit and miss as an actor, but I definitely wouldn’t say he deserves anything for The Social Network, he’s done better.

  49. stewie rupert says:

Please! He doesn’t even be given the right to audition for movie/tv roles.
